As followers of Jesus Christ, we are to pursue excellence in all things.

According to Noah Webster’s 1828 dictionary the word excellent is defined as — “Being of great virtue or worth; eminent or distinguished for what is amiable, valuable or laudable.”
God is a god of excellence.

Just look around at creation for evidence — There is the beauty of the mountains and the beaches. There is the majesty of a sunrise or a sunset, and the amazing inspiration of a rainbow.

All of that, not to mention the awesome power of the wind and the waves — The calming effect of watching a butterfly. And the melody of chirping birds in the morning.

In referring to Jesus having just healed a deaf man, the Bible says in Mark 7 verse 37 “And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, ‘He has done all things well’ …”

• How about you?
• Do you do things well?
• Is excellence something you pursue?

As we continue in our Bible study of King David, we see him now near the end of his life longing to build a magnificent Temple for God.

God, however, says to David, “You are a man of war, and there is much blood shed in your past. You will not be the one to build Me a Temple, but your son Solomon will!”

With that Word from God, David sought to do all he could to fill the treasury so that Solomon would have all he needed to fulfill the task of building a great Temple for God!

If you were building the God of all creation a Temple — How would you do it?

• Would you cut corners, skimp on the quality of the materials, and find the cheapest labor available?

• Or would you go all out and give it your absolute best?

The pursuit of excellence for us as men of God is non-negotiable.
