This passage introduces the letter to the Romans. It focuses on four important things. First, it introduces the author Paul and stresses his apostolic authority. Second it summarises the gospel which Paul will proclaim in the letter. Third it introduces Paul’s audience, the church in Rome. Fourth it speaks about Paul’s relationship to this church and his purpose in writing to them.
