In this video we will examine some proof texts that Calvinists use to teach the doctrine of Irresistible Grace. Romans 8:7 is a passage Calvinists use to teach that fallen man is unable to believe the gospel until God does a special work in their heart. They associate the law of God with the gospel. But the gospel is not the law of God. The gospel is the power of God unto salvation. The gospel is the good news about how we can take part in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ in order to be born again and receive grace to live a life of victory ruling and reigning over sin. The gospel is God's call and drawing power to all men. Through God's love, he has chosen to give man the ability to choose. Men can either accept or reject the gospel. Those who accept the gospel by faith will obey the gospel. Nobody is forced to obey or reject the gospel. We are given a choice. Acts 16:14 is another proof text that Calvinists use to teach the doctrine of Irresistible Grace. From this passage, they teach that God opened up Lydia's heart before she was able to believe. But when you look at the context, she started as a worshipper of God and then she heard the apostles preach the gospel and after hearing the gospel God opened her heart. Did God do this against Lydia's will? Of course not! God was able to work in her heart by the Spirit through the gospel (truth). She then obeyed the gospel and was baptized. This is the Scriptural order of events. Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. The gospel is the Word of God that convicts the sinner. What they choose to do with the good news is up to them. God never forces His love on anyone. Those who receive the gospel and obey it are then set free and born again.
