Second Sunday of Lent (Mark 9:2-9) (Year B) Here's a Reflection on Mark 9:2-9 the transfiguration of the Lord. Second sunday of Lent is also called trasfiguration sunday. Mark 9:2-9 is the turning point in the ministry of Jesus. You cannot miss the Transfiguration of Jesus. I need to warn you: you aren't supposed to figure out the transfigured Jesus. Jesus is supposed to be appreciated – we are drawn to him. Suppose you have missed the Epiphany due to its cryptic nature. Epiphany is a story of the manifestation of Jesus to the world. And guess, we can even skip the Baptism of Jesus – where the heavens open and the Holy Spirit descends on Jesus. Transfiguration is a delight to the eyes. But in Mark's Gospel, Jesus warns the apostles to tell no one – a type of secrecy of the bright glare. We are to approach it with reverence and awe.

How to look at Jesus' Transfiguration?
The second Sunday of Lent is also called Transfiguration Sunday. Transfiguration is a different type of revealing. Did Jesus change into another form in front of the disciples, like metamorphosis? A caterpillar becomes a butterfly. No. But the transformation of Jesus is more like unveiling – revealing Jesus's true identity. The disciples were able to see the glory that Jesus always possessed from the beginning - a glory that speaks more loudly than words - a glory that told that suffering and death is not the whole picture of Jesus' story.

Transfiguration is an opportunity.
Transfiguration provides an opportunity to declare God's love for his beloved Son. We are in the presence of delight – delight being an aspect of holy. It's not an image of intimidating purity. Its tender holiness. Take delight in Jesus as God does. The sight and sound suggest that the apostles are on the holy ground – in a privileged company.
