Series Summary (Sermon Makeover, ParkviewSedalia)
We've all probably seen them, the makeover shows on TV where someone buys an old dilapidated house and remodels it. Over the course of the next hour, you can watch that old home become something that looks absolutely amazing. It almost makes you want to go find an old home to remodel for yourself. Almost...
In a sense, that's what we strive to do in our spiritual lives. When we accept Jesus, he makes us into something new. Paul calls it a "new creation." Jesus totally transforms our lives into something amazing. It's a spiritual makeover.
But we have a part to play in this transformation, too. There are several characteristics that we need to develop, and several habits that we need to cultivate that can help achieve this change. Over the course of this series, we will look at several of these qualities and habits. We will discuss what they are, how important they are to our spiritual growth, and find some ways to implement them into our lives. Some of the habits and characteristics we will look at include: how to be a peacemaker, slowing down, spending time with God, accountability, memorizing Scripture, getting plugged into church, and more.
Are you ready for a spiritual makeover?
Sermon Summary
The next habit that we are taking a look at the the habit of accountability. This is something that very few actually implement into their lives, but we all need it critically. Having a friend who has the permission to dig in and ask the hard questions of our lives is of utmost importance if we want to grow spiritually. But it's uncomfortable. It's hard. And it's not safe.
Maybe so. But it may save us from doing something that is spiritually, relationally, or even physically harmful to ourselves. Having this kind of relationship in our lives helps us to be more of who God created us to be.
