An Eternal Hope is what we all need. Paul’s world was not a safe place. Cities could be impersonal and nasty. Villages could be hostile and dangerous for outsiders. Roadways always harbored the threat of bandits. Ships could be swamped by storms or attacked by pirates. Even in a case of assault or robbery, justice was often unavailable or corrupt. People needed to be ever wary and alert for danger. It seemed prudent (cautious) to live just live day by day in a self-protecting manner
