The story of the anointing of Jesus (Mark 14:3-9) is inserted into the middle of a story about the plot to kill him (Mark 14:1-2 and 10-11). The weaving together of the plot and anointing stories creates a connection between the plot of the priests, the anointing in Bethany, and Judas’ betrayal. The implication is that Judas was so angry about the anointing that he betrayed Jesus. New Testament scholar Tom Boomershine tells and comments on the first story in the epic ending of the Gospel of Mark.
