“THE BOOK OF JOSHUA ~ a Type & Shadow” A-053 (07-13-22) Today: Joshua 10:29-35
------------------------------------------------------------
This week’s episode was lesson #53, let’s look at Joshua 10:29-35 as we continue this study.
Joshua 10:28 (NKJV) says, “On that day Joshua took Makkedah {maqqēḏâ, mĕh–kāy–dăh’ ~ a place of shepherds, as in a herding}, and struck it and its king with the edge of the sword. He utterly destroyed them {ḥāram, khăw–ddrăm’ ~ to seclude; or to prohibit}—all the people who were in it. He let none remain. He also did to the king of Makkedah {maqqēḏâ, mĕh–kāy–dăh’} as he had done to the king of Jericho.”
● From the standpoint of looking at this as an allegory, we see the wandering thoughts within the souls of all mankind.
Joshua 10:29 (New English Translation) says, “Joshua and all Israel marched from Makkedah to Libnah and fought against it.”
● Here we have a people who were in Egyptian captivity for 400 years, who chose to remain faithful to their God, as best as they understood how. So, the Lord makes them a promise that they would inherit a land flowing with milk and honey. In other words, this promise involved a land that would provide a continuous flow of blessing to them.
Joshua 10:30 (NET) says, “The LORD handed it and its king over to Israel, and Israel put the sword to all who lived there; they left no survivors. They did to its king what they had done to the king of Jericho.”
● First of all, for me the “sword” is a type of a cutting away of that which does not belong, and since we are looking at the allegory of wrong thinking roaming about the land of our mind, unrenewed thinking must be cut away by the working of the sword of the spirit. And the fact that “they left no survivors” also points to a type of there being no survivors of unrenewed thoughts within your own mind.
Joshua 10:32 (NET) “The LORD handed Lachish {lāḵîš, lăw–kēēsh’} over to Israel, and they {Israel} captured it on the second day. They put the sword to all who lived there, just as they had done to Libnah.”
● To capture this land on this second day, and not the first day indicates that there is a process to walk through, whether encompassing 2 days, 2 months, 2 years, or 20 years. And since we were created in the realm of spirit, we are in a strange land where we are dealing with a human-form thinking and a human-experience that presents challenges we did not have in the spirit-realm.
Joshua 10:33 (NET) “Then King Horam {hōrām, hō–ddrăwm’ ~ used as exalted} of Gezer {gezer, gĕh’–zĕrdd ~ used as portion} came up to help Lachish, but Joshua struck him down, as well as his army {Heb. people}, until no survivors remained.”
● Although “King Horam” {hōrām, hō–ddrăwm’} had been thought of as exalted, still yet Joshua and the children of Israel were able to conquer it. Just because you have thoughts in the mind of your soul that seem to be exalted above other thoughts, does not mean that they cannot be conquered and overcome.
Joshua 10:34 (NET) says, “Joshua and all Israel marched from Lachish {lāḵîš, lăw–kēēsh’} to Eglon {ʿeḡlôn, ĕgg–lōne’ ~ calf-like}. They deployed troops and fought against it.”
● This word Eglon, {ʿeḡlôn, ĕgg–lōne’} used as calf-like in its nature, for me is a type of or an allegory for masculine thinking that is bull-headed and does not want to be conquered. In other words, when you are up against those thoughts that seemingly resist being renewed to truth, stay at it as you rest in the origin of your creation, knowing with full confidence that the victory is already your created state of being.
Joshua 10:35 (NET) says, “That day they captured it and put the sword to all who lived there. That day they {Heb. he} annihilated it just as they had done to Lachish.”
● When you make a decision to begin to “capture the first thought” that floods forth from your mind, these thought can be identified as “rogue thoughts” which are defined as dishonest or unprincipled thinking. I think the key for me has been to first discover what the truth is, and then position myself based on that truth. The fact is that dealing with unrenewed thoughts is a simple matter of what lines up to what you presently believe and continue to grow from there.
● Keep in mind that just like the children of Israel, conquering the land of your mind is not a matter of what you have literally or physically accomplished, but it is a matter of how you have positioned yourself as the image and likeness of God as one who walks in His dominion, and as one who is the conqueror. I hope you were enlightened and inspired to “dig deep into the well of Father’s mind within” as you watch this video lesson!
