“THE BOOK OF JOSHUA ~ a Type & Shadow” A-056 (08-17-22) Today: Joshua 11:6-10
-----------------------------------------------------------
This week’s episode, was lesson #56 from Joshua 11:6-9 as we continue in this study.
● Joshua 11:6 (New English Translation) says, “The LORD told Joshua, “Don’t be afraid of them, for about this time tomorrow I will cause all of them to lie dead before Israel. You must hamstring their horses and burn {Hb. burn with fire} their chariots.”
● It seems that mankind has a tendency to look at challenges as impossible situations and from that, people often enter into a give-up mode.
● Mark 10:27 (TPT) says, “Jesus looked at them and replied, “With people it is impossible, but not with God—God makes all things possible!”
● Had this been written in Joshua’s day, he would have sung this as a hymn after hearing these encouraging words. Everyone one needs a word of encouragement in this journey, and sometimes we need it daily until we are able to stand on our own two feet as we learn to trust and depend upon our Father-Creator, in relationship from within.
● Joshua 11:7 (NET) says, “Joshua and his whole army caught them by surprise at the Waters of Merom and attacked them.”
● The fact is that oftentimes things change in life’s challenges and circumstances when we hear and receive what the voice of Father-God within is saying to us. Those moments generally are intended as a “refocusing moment” for us where we begin to see things differently and much more clearly. When Joshua heard the instruction from the Lord, he refocused and advanced against this army which was a larger number of warriors that they had faced up to this point in their journey.
● Joshua 11:8 (NET) says, “The LORD handed them over to Israel, and they struck them down and chased them all the way to Greater Sidon, Misrephoth Maim {miśrᵊp̄ôṯ mayim, mĭs–rĕh–fōhth' măh'–yĭm ~ burnings of water}, and the Mizpah Valley {miṣpê, mĭts–pĕh’ ~ watch tower} to the east. They struck them down until no survivors remained.”
● This “power encounter” was clearly in favor of Israel (and Yahweh of course). Once again note God’s deliverance and Israel’s defeat of the enemy (God’s part/man’s part).” So, it seems that the word defeated is translated to mean, cut to pieces, or cut in a rough manner. Again, picture in your mind that history points to a great battle that took place that day, but from an allegorical perspective, we are considering what this might look like when dealing with the wandering thoughts within the mind of your soul.
● Joshua 11:9 (NET) says, “Joshua did to them as the LORD had commanded him; he hamstrung their horses and burned {Heb. burned with fire} their chariots.”
● From www.preceptaustin.org, commentator, Cyril Barber writes, “In this way the temptation for Israel to use these things in future battles was removed. The Lord was their surest defense, and as long as their eyes were on Him, and they lived in obedience to His revealed will, He would give them success.”
● Joshua 11:10 (NET) says, “At that time Joshua turned, captured Hazor, and struck down its king with the sword, for Hazor was at that time {or, formerly} the leader of all these kingdoms.”
● The type & shadow in this passage of scripture is the battles within your thoughts can at times seem to be the greatest challenge you have ever faced. The fact is that when renewing your mind to the revelation of truth that is being revealed to you, just remember that just because you have never heard something the way you are now hearing it or seeing it from the Lord, does not make it a false revelation.
● It just means that you have never before heard what is now being unveiled to you and for me, the key to dealing with unrenewed thoughts is to stay focused on your relationship with your Father, and do not allow things around you to be so big in your life that they distract you; because the revelation that is now being shown to you, will become the truth that keeps you in victory-mode each and every day. I hope you were enlightened and inspired to “dig deep into the well of Father’s mind within” as you watch this video lesson!
