The Church Sings

BIG IDEA: Singing in the context of corporate worship is not to satisfy preferences, but to edify others and praise God as a response to the truths of God’s Word.

We are to sing the Word of God (Col 3:16; Eph 5:19)
-Ex 15:2

We sing for the benefit of others (Eph 5:19; Col 3:16)
-Ps 149:1; Eph 4:3

We sing in order to praise God (Eph 5:19; Col 3:16)
-Eph 4:4-5

Our attitude towards singing reflects the condition of our hearts (Eph 5:18-19; Col 3:16)
-Acts 16:23-25; Mark 7:6-7
