1 Cor 11:28
27So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. 28Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup. 29For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves.
How does one observe the ordinance of the Lord's Supper?
with proper context of "being a good Christian."
In Corinth the fellowship, the church with a little “c”, had broken down into two broad cliques: the well off and the poor
the "well off" were probably not all wealthy but they had no financial worries.
their bills were paid, their stomach's were full and their ego's harsh and large
they had no compassion for the poor among them.
As a group they were guilty of having much more than just wine and a slice of wafer.
most, if not all, would bring plenty of food and drink and "party hard"
Party hard while ignoring the poor among them who may have only had a small amount of greatly watered down wine and scraps to eat
Instead of observing the Lord's Supper in remembrance of what He had done plus remembering that He has risen from the dead and will come again,
they partied and looked down on the poor
A Point?
when you observe the Lord's Supper do so with a measure of humility, focused on Jesus, and before, during and after the observance be living a praise worthy life.
Remember what He has done.
Remember He is coming again.
Motivates you.
