For the Apostle Paul, being a gospel minister was the definition of his life. This is who he is, and he knew that he would proclaim the good news of Jesus for the rest of his life until the day the Lord would bring him home to heaven. In this introductory portion of his epistle to the church at Rome, he desired to communicate his heart and passion for the gospel ministry by describing how God had worked in his life to make him into the minister he proved himself to be. As we read this passage, we should reflect upon Paul's words by viewing his understanding of his own gospel ministry as an example of how we should be in our service to the Lord. What we see here are the necessary requirements that should exemplify the gospel ministry the Lord has given to each one of us. These are as follows:

The Gospel Ministry requires a . . .

Requirement #1: Thankful Heart (v. 8)
Requirement #2: Prayerful Posture (v. 9)
Requirement #3: Loving Motivation (vv. 10-12)
Requirement #4: Purposeful Direction (vv. 13-15)
Requirement #5: Clear Message (vv. 16-17)
