The gospel is the power of God unto salvation for those who believe. Our text today describes the breakthrough moment when the gospel arrived in Europe. In today’s vocabulary, the gospel arrived on a new continent and among a new people group. The overarching story of the gospel’s arrival in Europe is told in three short stories selected to show the most important aspects of the overarching story. In narrative biblical literature, the stories are true but they are not exhaustive. The careful selection of these stories is consequential, then for demonstrating key issues about the power of the gospel.
