After Abram returns from the battle of the kings, God appears to him in a vision and reaffirms His promise of a seed and many descendants. Abram believes God and his faith (belief in God's promise) is counted as righteousness. This statement becomes the cornerstone of salvation. That is, salvation by faith alone.
