Record my misery; list my tears on your scroll — are they not in your record? Then my enemies will turn back when I call for help. By this I will know that God is for me.
Tears on God’s Scroll
Psalm 56:1-2, 8-11
1 Be merciful to me, my God, for my enemies are in hot pursuit; all day long they press their attack. 2 My adversaries pursue me all day long; in their pride many are attacking me.
8 Record my misery; list my tears on your scroll — are they not in your record? 9 Then my enemies will turn back when I call for help. By this I will know that God is for me. 10 In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD, whose word I praise— 11 in God I trust and am not afraid. What can man do to me?
Today’s title is “Tears on God’s Scroll”
Tears make us sad because we know that tears are an outward expression of heartbreak deep inside. We don’t want to go through any heart-breaking situation that causes tears in our eyes. We don’t want anybody to shed tears out of pain and suffering. Just looking at the people shedding tears makes our hearts sunk. We hope our eyes stay dried without any tears as much as possible. Right? But I heard from an eye doctor that our eyes will be strained if it always stays dry. A lot of eye problems stem from dry eyes. The eye doctor also said that If someone is unable to shed tears when he or she has to, it is a bigger health concern. So tears are not necessarily something that we should try to do away. That’s good to know. Such physical phenomena seem to have some spiritual implications. Today’s psalm says that tears that were shed before God are in God’s record. The tears that we shed before God are in God’s scroll. Doesn’t that surprise you? God is counting and recording our tears. It obviously shows that God values our tears that we shed before Him highly. He does not slight our tears. What would He do with the scroll of tears? I am sure He uses it to decide when and how He will wipe our tears for one thing. He will also use it to remember the genuine outpouring of our hearts before Him. Of course, God doesn’t like us go through unnecessary misery and suffering. But even the most faithful servants of God such as David sometimes go through miseries and sufferings. In fact, the more faithful you become to God, the greater trials and sufferings you will l have from your enemies. You can’t help crying out to God in tears. God meticulously records your tears in His scroll as if they are jewels of faith. The tear mark in heaven ‘s scroll will never be erased. Are you in miseries and sufferings? Are you in tears? Make sure that your tears are shed before God. The tears will never be forgotten. And He will wipe out your tears in His time. Amen!
