The author of Hebrews explains the meaning of the phrase "great salvation" that appears in 2:3. Salvation in Christ is truly remarkable because it is how the Lord will restore the eternal destiny to every believer. God created us for a glorious purpose (Gen. 1), but we lost that when we sinned against Him (Gen. 3). Many years later, King David reflected upon this as he meditated upon God's glorious creation. In Psalm 8:4-6, he asked why God would be willing to care for humanity, especially since we sinned against the Lord and forfeited our eternal destiny. The author of Hebrews knew the answer to David's question. David discusses two aspects regarding our eternal destiny.

Aspect #1: The Current Situation Regarding our Eternal Destiny (vv. 5-10)
* God created us to have dominion [vv. 5-8b]
* We forfeited God's purpose [v. 8c]
* Jesus entered this world to save us and restore our eternal destiny [vv. 9-10]

Aspect #2: The Future Reality Regarding our Eternal Destiny (vv. 11-18)
* Jesus restored our relationship with Him [vv. 11-13]
* Jesus restored our security with Him [vv. 14-15]
* Jesus restored our status with Him [vv. 16-18]
