Mk 1:4 And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
Exodus 23:20 I am going to send an angel in front of you, to guard you on the way and to bring you to the place that I have prepared.
Isa 40:3 A voice of one calling: “In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
Mal 3:1-3 See, I am sending my messenger to prepare the way before me, and the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple.

I think this sermon has three parts each connected to John the Baptist. And I hope this makes sense as we go through each part. If I call John the Baptist the messenger-----the first part is the messenger’s question; the second, the messenger’s charge; third the messenger’s offer.
