After David has expressed an understanding of the nature of sin and how sin displays itself, he contemplates the significance of sin in his life and how sin affects his relationship with the Lord. He expresses to the Lord his brokenness because of sin, acknowledging his need for the Lord to cure him from sin. David expresses three specific desires to the Lord.

Desire #1: I Need my Guilt Removed because of God's Wrath (vv. 1-8)
-- Removed because Jesus is our Propitiation

Desire #2: I Need my Bondage Removed because of God's Law (vv. 9-16)
-- Removed because Jesus is our Redemption

Desire #3: I Need my Alienation Removed because of God's Holiness (vv. 17-22)
-- Removed because Jesus is our Reconciliation
