When we underestimate God’s Holiness, two gigantic fatal mistakes simultaneously occur. We begin to imagine that God is a little more tolerant of evil than He is, and we begin to imagine that we’re a little bit better than we are. That is the compost and fertilizer of self-righteousness, and it is exactly what caused the Jews in Paul’s day to miss Christ.
