Walking in the Light
1 John 1:5–2:2 Part 1
Introduction
Finally, 2020 has ended! What a year it has been. We have faced many challenges, including tremendous loss. But God has also been faithful. His hand has been mightily upon us at TFL throughout the year. And now we are starting 2021 with a degree of hope but also some trepidation. Our country is divided, and we find ourselves in the last days of the Last Days. We eagerly look for the Rapture of the Church. But we trust that God is working His plan. God wants us to continue bringing Christ to the world. But He also wants us as individuals to have fellowship with Him. How is that possible?
The Basis for Fellowship – v. 1:5
“God is light…”
Darkness is not in Him – NONE!
God is completely holy!
The Light of Fellowship — vv. 1:6-7
We are not truthful when we claim to have fellowship with God, but we walk in darkness.
All believers are subject to the temptation to justify their sin and to claim fellowship with God.
When believers enter the light where God is, they have direct fellowship with Him.
When we walk in the light, we are cleansed from all sin by the blood of Jesus.
The Requirements for Fellowship — vv. 1:8-10
The Advocate for Fellowship — vv. 2:1-2
Timeless Truth
God wants those who believe in Him to come into fellowship with Him. God is light, and our fellowship with Him involves moving into His light. If we try to fellowship with God but remain in the darkness of our sins, we do not practice the truth. But if we approach God openly and honestly, even though we are still sinners, we can enter His light because Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
Living Lesson
God is calling you into fellowship with Him. That can’t happen if you walk in darkness. Walk in the light where He is, and you will have perfect fellowship with the Father.
