Joshua 1:5-9 Strong and Courageous

After Moses died, Joshua became the leader of the Israelites. The pressure of this new responsibility was great. He was to lead more than two million people into a foreign land to conquer and claim it as their own. Joshua easily could have become afraid or discouraged as he thought about his opposition. But the LORD promised to be with him. He encouraged Joshua to be strong, brave, and obedient.
The secret of true success, then and now, is complete obedience to God. We must believe that God is with us in every experience. As we obey his Word, he will give us the strength and courage we need to face whatever challenges come our way. New experiences can be frightening, but with God

Discussion Questions:
1.Joshua served/assisted Moses for 40 years, as he led Israel. How do you serve God’s people? (note: it isn’t limited only to GFC – in fact, our greatest ministries are outside of the walls of the physical church). What are some lessons that you have learned, through serving, that has helped you to be better?

2.Read 2 Corinthians 12:9. God knew that Joshua and Israel were grieving the loss of Moses and scared of the unknown, yet He still called them to move forward in His promise and purpose. Can you share an experience where God has used your pain for His purpose?

3.Without risk, there is no need for courage. Please read verse 6. What is an area in your life where God has already prepared the place, but you have not ‘possessed’ the blessing/promise? What holds you back from moving forward?

4.Reference verses 7-8. God clearly provides instructions to Joshua in achieving success and prosperity in all that they do. It is not physical might that guarantees success, but obedience to living the Word fully. According to the formula provided by God, where do you need to grow and/or obey – Obey Instructions Given, Not Deviating, Studying the Book of Instruction, or Meditating on it, day and night. (Don’t worry ladies, you are not alone - we ALL have room to grow).

5.Write down one area where you are experiencing fear, anxiety, or issues of inadequacy. Take your note and give it to one person at your table. (If in a virtual group, share via text, email or like medium) This week, you are responsible for praying for the strength and Godly encouragement of your sister in Christ. “I can do all this through Christ, who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13
