At first glance, this scripture passage may seem to be urging people to be "good little boys and girls." The writer does urge a number of ethical actions, but the concern here is much bigger than making sure people behave. This passage is part of a longer discussion that speaks of taking off an old identity and putting on a new one, an image drawn from the early Church's baptism liturgy.
