How do we find this favor and get into a good position where both God and man want to open up the treasures to us? It’s in how you handle mercy and truth.

Jesus said to His disciples, “I have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.” (John 16:12). A lot of people can’t handle the truth at the time you want to tell them the truth. That’s why we have to let the Holy Spirit show us when to tell the truth, and when to show mercy. Maybe you’re not supposed expose something right at the moment, but show mercy by letting that person slide, and let God take care of it.

Then on another hand, it may be a time when you need to speak up and say something. You may need to reveal something to someone in a way that shows them the light on the path. Sometimes you have to let people slide, and sometimes you have to have to hold their feet to the fire.

You can’t straighten out every person; you can’t fix every church; you can’t straighten out the politicians and you certainly can’t straighten out Washington D.C.

We have to know when to speak truth, and when to show mercy. Just because you show mercy doesn’t mean you’re giving up the truth. When you show someone mercy, you’re saying, “That’s not for me to handle. That’s for the Holy Spirit.” Somehow someway God will get truth to that person.

Our job is to balance that mercy and truth — know when you should step in and know when you should back off.

The Bible says, “Bind them around your neck,” meaning whichever direction you turn, let mercy and truth be there. If we do this, God promises that we will have so much favor!
