"Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance." Psalm 32:7
Music is such a universal language, especially Christian music to the Christian. It can be such a place of habitation where we can hide and enjoy. Music that ministers to us is such an essential part of the Christian faith.
Here the Psalmist is saying something so powerful. He’s saying his life is stormy, he’s in and out of situations, and he knows he needs all the help that he can get. Is that you? Do you need all the help that you can get?
David was saying he wanted the Lord to surround him only with music that delivered him. God doesn’t ever want us to be limited to our parents’ music, or to your church’s music, or to your friend’s favorite songs. God wants you to have songs in your life that are special to you. They may not be special to anybody else, but they do something to the inside of you. These songs should create presence, cast away fear, and cause faith to rise! These songs cause something in you to percolate.
God wants you to begin to know what these special songs are – whether it’s an old hymn, or a new cutting edge song, whether people around you like it or whether they don’t, it doesn’t matter. All that matters is what does that song do for you? Those are songs you don’t want to abandon even if the church doesn’t sing them anymore.
God has anointed music just for you! The lyrics, the rhythm, the beat all play a different part in how they minister to you. Keep these songs around you and in front of you. “Songs of deliverance” will break the yoke, break the attack that is on your life, and they create that presence and sustaining power of God!
This year, don’t just sing any song, or only the songs that your church is singing. Let the Holy Spirit set aside songs for you that do something special to you - that create presence, push away darkness and keep you going down the path!
