[Living Life] 07.04.2021 People of God's Covenant (Exodus 34:10-26)

Everything we do at Westside is centred on knowing Jesus and making Jesus known. Christ's great commission is for His disciples to go out and make disciples (Matthew 28:18-19). In Jesus' parable of the Great Banquet (Luke 14), He tells us to go out and compel as many people as possible to come to His Father's banqueting table so that His house may be full. There is no denying that our clear calling as the global church is to make Jesus known to those who don't know Him. But making Jesus known at Westside isn't simply tied into missions and evangelism, for knowing Jesus isn't a one-time act but an ongoing process -- what God begins, He completes (Romans 8:30 and Philippians 1:7). And the fact is, Jesus calls us to disciple-making, not convert--making; but that said, the role of any disciple is calling others to follow Jesus.

Moses Makes New Tablets 
Exodus 34: 1-26 
 
Exo 34:1  The LORD said to Moses, “Cut for yourself two tablets of stone like the first, and I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke.  
Exo 34:2  Be ready by the morning, and come up in the morning to Mount Sinai, and present yourself there to me on the top of the mountain.  
Exo 34:3  No one shall come up with you, and let no one be seen throughout all the mountain. Let no flocks or herds graze opposite that mountain.”  
Exo 34:4  So Moses cut two tablets of stone like the first. And he rose early in the morning and went up on Mount Sinai, as the LORD had commanded him, and took in his hand two tablets of stone.  
Exo 34:5  The LORD descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD.  
Exo 34:6  The LORD passed before him and proclaimed, “The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness,  
Exo 34:7  keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children's children, to the third and the fourth generation.”  
Exo 34:8  And Moses quickly bowed his head toward the earth and worshiped.  
Exo 34:9  And he said, “If now I have found favor in your sight, O Lord, please let the Lord go in the midst of us, for it is a stiff-necked people, and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for your inheritance.”  
The Covenant Renewed 
Exo 34:10  And he said, “Behold, I am making a covenant. Before all your people I will do marvels, such as have not been created in all the earth or in any nation. And all the people among whom you are shall see the work of the LORD, for it is an awesome thing that I will do with you.  
Exo 34:11  “Observe what I command you this day. Behold, I will drive out before you the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.  
Exo 34:12  Take care, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land to which you go, lest it become a snare in your midst.  
Exo 34:13  You shall tear down their altars and break their pillars and cut down their Asherim  
Exo 34:14  (for you shall worship no other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God),  
Exo 34:15  lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and when they whore after their gods and sacrifice to their gods and you are invited, you eat of his sacrifice,  
Exo 34:16  and you take of their daughters for your sons, and their daughters whore after their gods and make your sons whore after their gods.  
Exo 34:17  “You shall not make for yourself any gods of cast metal.  
Exo 34:18  “You shall keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, at the time appointed in the month Abib, for in the month Abib you came out from Egypt.  
Exo 34:19  All that open the womb are mine, all your male livestock, the firstborn of cow and sheep.  
Exo 34:20  The firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb, or if you will not redeem it you shall break its neck. All the firstborn of your sons you shall redeem. And none shall appear before me empty-handed.  
Exo 34:21  “Six days you shall work, but on the seventh day you shall rest. In plowing time and in harvest you shall rest.  
Exo 34:22  You shall observe the Feast of Weeks, the firstfruits of wheat harvest, and the Feast of Ingathering at the year's end.  
Exo 34:23  Three times in the year shall all your males appear before the LORD God, the God of Israel.  
Exo 34:24  For I will cast out nations before you and enlarge your borders; no one shall covet your land, when you go up to appear before the LORD your God three times in the year.  
Exo 34:25  “You shall not offer the blood of my sacrifice with anything leavened, or let the sacrifice of the Feast of the Passover remain until the morning.  
Exo 34:26  The best of the firstfruits of your ground you shall bring to the house of the LORD your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother's milk.”

The Jealousy of God - Exodus 34:11-14

We are Sh'ma Yisrael: an organization dedicated to the glorification of YHWH (The One, True and Living God) and the restoration of His chosen people, Israel (the so-called Black and West Indian). We are God fearing, commandment keeping Israelites. We are not a gang, cult, hate group, or secret society. Our aim is to uplift and enlighten all mankind to the truth and glorify the Name of The Eternal Creator (YHWH) through the light of His Law (the Torah).

In a tent outside of town, God’s presence dwells away from his people as a reminder of what could have been had they not disobeyed in idolatry and their stiff-neck ness. How often do we forget that the prize of heaven is the presence of God? 
 
On the mountain, God reveals himself to be firstly merciful, abounding in love, and slow to anger. He is not quick to look for excuses to condemn. His love extends to thousands of generations. Yet, God is not apathetic to evil. His mercy is not ignorant to sin, but it is lopsided. While his justice is poured upon a few generations, his love is poured upon thousands. His greatest act of love and judgement was met at the cross, when the judgement we deserve for sin was put upon Jesus, because of God’s love for us.

Bezalel and Oholiab 
 
The Lord spoke to Moses: See, I have called by name Bezalel son of Uri son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah: and I have filled him with divine spirit, with ability, intelligence, and knowledge in every kind of craft, to devise artistic designs, to work in gold, silver, and bronze, in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, in every kind of craft. Moreover, I have appointed with him Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan; and I have given skill to all the skillful, so that they may make all that I have commanded you: the tent of meeting, and the ark of the covenant, and the mercy seat that is on it, and all the furnishings of the tent, the table and its utensils, and the pure lampstand with all its utensils, and the altar of incense, and the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and the basin with its stand, and the finely worked vestments, the holy vestments for the priest Aaron and the vestments of his sons, for their service as priests, and the anointing oil and the fragrant incense for the holy place. They shall do just as I have commanded you. Then Moses said to the Israelites: See, the Lord has called by name Bezalel son of Uri son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah; he has filled him with divine spirit, with skill, intelligence, and knowledge in every kind of craft, to devise artistic designs, to work in gold, silver, and bronze, in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, in every kind of craft. And he has inspired him to teach, both him and Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan. He has filled them with skill to do every kind of work done by an artisan or by a designer or by an embroiderer in blue, purple, and crimson yarns, and in fine linen, or by a weaver-by any sort of artisan or skilled designer. Bezalel and Oholiab and every skillful one to whom the Lord has given skill and understanding to know how to do any work in the construction of the sanctuary shall work in accordance with all that the Lord has commanded. Moses then called Bezalel and Oholiab and every skillful one to whom the Lord had given skill, everyone whose heart was stirred to come to do the work; and they received from Moses all the freewill offerings that the Israelites had brought for doing the work on the sanctuary. They still kept bringing him freewill offerings every morning, so that all the artisans who were doing every sort of task on the sanctuary came, each from the task being performed, and said to Moses, “The people are bringing much more than enough for doing the work that the Lord has commanded us to do.” So Moses gave command, and word was proclaimed throughout the camp: “No man or woman is to make anything else as an offering for the sanctuary.” So the people were restrained from bringing; for what they had already brought was more than enough to do all the work.
