12 Brethren, I urge you to become like me, for I became like you. You have not injured me at all. 13 You know that because of physical infirmity I preached the gospel to you at the first. 14 And my trial which was in my flesh you did not despise or reject, but you received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus. 15 What then was the blessing you enjoyed? For I bear you witness that, if possible, you would have plucked out your own eyes and given them to me. 16 Have I therefore become your enemy because I tell you the truth?

Paul had preached the gospel to these assemblies. He wrote to counter those who taught that Christians must be circumcised to be saved. Paul began with a defence of his apostolic authority (CHS. 1–2), then made it clear that all believers, Jew and Gentile alike, enjoy complete salvation in Christ (CHS. 3–4). In chapters 5–6, Paul showed how the gospel of grace leads to true freedom and godly living. How strange this must seem or sound to most of us... to live by belief and not by what we see. I fear our eyes and our ears have to much power over us... over our belief. Which should be in Jesus Christ and not the letter of the law. The law is in vain if your belief, hope, love and trust is not in our ADNY(Lord). This is the whole point of a servant becoming a son... of just following with our lips as to following with our heart. Is it just our lips that praise our Father, or everything that we are? Psalm 19:14 says, “May the words of my lips and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight YHWH, my rock and my redeemer.” So it is not just our outside, but what is inside us that matters. Our outsides have become vanity while our insides have become wretched and wicked. We have become mere shells of “dead men’s bones.” May we turn to and accept Jesus Christ in our lives and may he change our hearts. For we were born of the flesh, but now need to be born of the spirit. May we seek, knock and ask the kingdom and may we find, the door be opened and may it be given to us... blessed Father, please hear us, come into us, change our lives and purify us from this lost state of being. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Amen.

VBR is a bible study project inspired by the popular “Bible Readings” conducted in the brotherhood in the early 20th Century. These Bible Readings were generally 6 weeks, or more, of intense daily Bible study meetings for all Christians. They resulted in considerable spiritual growth in the brotherhood with many students becoming elders, evangelists and teachers.

In the 21st Century, 6-week bible readings are difficult to accomplish, therefore the concept of video bible readings (VBR) is a modern alternative to promote personal bible study among the Lord’s church today.

Tom Allen from the Nixa church of Christ and Dwain Stoops from the Riverside Road church of Christ are initiating the direction and production of VBR as an online source of private bible studies taught by various faithful evangelists, elders, or teachers over the coming years.

You did me no wrong. 13 You know it was because of a bodily ailment that I preached the gospel to you at first, 14 and though my condition was a trial to you, you did not scorn or despise me, but received me as an angel of God, as Christ Jesus. 15 What then has become of your blessedness? For I testify to you that, if possible, you would have gouged out your eyes and given them to me. 16 Have I then become your enemy by telling you the truth?[b] 17 They make much of you, but for no good purpose. They want to shut you out, that you may make much of them. 18 It is always good to be made much of for a good purpose, and not only when I am present with you, 19 my little children, for whom I am again in the anguish of childbirth until Christ is formed in you! 20 I wish I could be present with you now and change my tone, for I am perplexed about you.
