There is a common saying… “There’s some good news, and there’s some bad news.” That saying could describe the book of Romans. It has a lot of good news (in fact, the word “gospel” means “good news”). But the book of Romans also has some bad news about God’s wrath and how we deserve it because of our sinfulness. Paul writes a commentary on the culture in Romans 1 like it’s today’s headlines—we are worshiping creation more than the Creator. There is more of an obsession about the planet and the environment than there is with God in our culture today. All this is symptomatic of a world that has denied the existence of God and disobeyed Him despite the fact that God has revealed Himself to an unrighteous world.

In 1960, Lilly Grove Missionary Baptist Church was first organized in a small frame building at 3602 Drew Street in the Third Ward area of Houston under the leadership of Reverend Norris Terry.  Reverend Terry resigned as Pastor after four years of service.

• Reverend Willie E. Powell 1964 to 1981
He was instrumental in moving the church from it's original location.

• Reverend Curtis Wallace 1981 to 1990
Under his leadership a larger place of worship was built adjacent to the existing edifice.  The old building was renovated unto classrooms, a spacious cafeteria and a small Chapel.  Reverend Wallace resigned as Pastor in 1990.

• Reverend Terry K. Anderson 1991 to Present
Lilly Grove called Reverend Terry K. Anderson of Eunice, Louisiana to become the fourth Pastor, on December 18, 1990. Reverend Anderson began his tenure as Pastor on the first Sunday in February 1991.

Greetings friends. In today's service we are going to take a look at Romans 1:1-17 together. In terms of key verses- Romans 1:16-17-which holds the whole book together. These verses begin with "I am NOT ashamed of the Gospel..." We live in a time when "everyone and their brother" is running around proudly identifying themselves after whatever cause they've chosen. As it regards being a follower of Christ let's not forget who we are - the Ambassadors of Christ. We are not to be ashamed to admit our connection and loyalties to Jesus. 
 
I'd like to invite you to join me in our study of Romans- for in it Jesus and the way of salvation and what it means to be a follower of Jesus is made plain (but also in great detail). Have a great day.
