18John’s disciples told him about all these things. Calling two of them, 19he sent them to the Lord to ask, “Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?” 20When the men came to Jesus, they said, “John the Baptist sent us to you to ask, ‘Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?’ ” 21At that very time Jesus cured many who had diseases, sicknesses and evil spirits, and gave sight to many who were blind. 22So he replied to the messengers, “Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor. 23Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.” 24After John’s messengers left, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swayed by the wind? 25If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear expensive clothes and indulge in luxury are in palaces. 26But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. 27This is the one about whom it is written: “ ‘I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.’ 28 I tell you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.” 29(All the people, even the tax collectors, when they heard Jesus’ words, acknowledged that God’s way was right, because they had been baptized by John. 30But the Pharisees and the experts in the law rejected God’s purpose for themselves, because they had not been baptized by John.) 31Jesus went on to say, “To what, then, can I compare the people of this generation? What are they like? 32They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling out to each other: “ ‘We played the pipe for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not cry.’ 33 For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.’ 34The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ 35But wisdom is proved right by all her children.”

Disappointment with God 
Scripture: Luke 7:18-35

In these early days of His ministry, Jesus has been disclosing more and more of His authority and power. He’s cast out demons, forgiven sins, and most recently he’s raised the dead. 
 
Everyone is asking the question: Who is this Jesus? 
 
Some consider Him a healer; others think He’s a great prophet. Still, others wonder if He’s the Messiah who would restore the Kingdom and make all things new. And just when it seems like there can be no doubt of who this Jesus is, doubt arises from the most unlikely source, John the Baptist. 
 
John the Baptist began to wonder out loud if Jesus really was the Messiah. What gives rise to this doubt is stemming from John the Baptist’s Disappointment with God. John had all these expectations and Jesus wasn’t delivering on them. 
 
Disappointment with God is something many of us can relate to. In this passage we find three scenarios in which disappointment with God so often arises. 
• When Hope is Deferred 
• When Prayers go Unanswered 
• When Desires are Frustrated 
 
When Hope is Deferred 
• Why doesn’t God fix everything right now? 
• Would you dare to believe I have purpose in this pause? 
• Why God doesn’t just fix everything right now: because He doesn’t want any to perish and He longs for all to reach repentance. 
 
When Prayers go Unanswered 
• Why isn’t God intervening in my situation? 
• Would you dare to trust my goodness in this grief? 
• When God says “no” to His children, He always does so from love. 
 
When Desires are Frustrated. 
The topic shifts from John’s disappointment with God to the Pharisee’s disappointment with God. 
• Why can’t God just play by our rules? 
• We want a customized God, made in our own image. 
• Would you dare to hold onto My character in this confusion? 
 
Takeaway: Would you dare to let God be God?

What did you go out to the desert to see?” 
 
????Jesus asked the people what exactly they were looking for. As he pointed out, they did not go to see John because he was weak or uninspiring. They didn’t rush to see him because he was wealthy or handsomely garbed. They went out into the desert to see him because he spoke words of hope and salvation. All the people who listened, including the tax collectors, and who were baptized with the baptism of John, acknowledged the righteousness of God. 
 
????Jesus speaks the words that fulfill the deepest longings of our hearts. We all want to be loved, to feel that our lives have meaning and purpose. We know that the “handsome garments” as lovely and enjoyable as they may be, will not fulfill this deep need in our hearts. Jesus reassures us that what we seek is available to us. In his Kingdom, each and every one of us is equally cherished and loved by the Father. The words of Jesus “among those born of women, no one is greater than John; yet the least in the Kingdom of God is greater than he” imply and confirm his great and personal love for each of us. We are all equals in the love of our Father, who has a beautiful and perfect plan for every human being. It is up to us whether or not we invite him into the daily work, struggles, sufferings, and joys of our lives. 
 
????We must leave behind our comfort and luxury and face reality as it is: disturbed by consumerism and selfishness we have forgotten what God is expecting from us. Jesus seems to want us to get rid of that eagerness of ours for a futile curiosity, of the arrogance the Pharisees and Masters of the Law showed by looking down upon God's plans for them by ignoring John's call. We realize that only our “knowledge of God” will not save us; we must know Him, love Him and follow Him; we need a response from deep inside us, sincere, humble and grateful. He offers us the gift of his forgiveness and his presence; He breaks whatever distance between us; He knocks at our door. Humble, patient, now He knocks at your heart: in your desert, in your loneliness, in your failings, in your incapacity, He wants you to see his love. 
 
????Let us thank God for the implicit meaning of today’s Gospel. When God says that the least person in the Kingdom is greater than John, He is revealing just how special we are to Him. Let us rest in the assurance of His deep and abiding love for us. God Bless!

As the old hymn goes "I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back, no turning back". The most important decision in life you will make is to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. 
 
Accepting Jesus Christ is very simple: "For Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved". "Whosoever" that means you! 
If you will repeat this prayer below and believe in your heart it is true Christ will come into you heart and you will pass from death into eternal life, from darkness to light. 
 
Lord Jesus Christ, I confess that I’m a sinner. I repent of my sins and I ask you to forgive me of my sins and to cleanse me of all unrighteousness. I believe that Your Son Jesus died in my 
place, to pay the penalty for my sin, and rose again for my salvation. I want to turn from my sinful ways, so I now ask you, Lord Jesus, to come into my life as my Savior and my Lord. I will serve you and obey you. I will read your word and I will follow Christ from this day forward all the days of my life. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Raise a glad cry, you barren one who did not bear, Break forth in jubilant song, you who were not in labor, For more numerous are the children of the deserted wife than the children of her who has a husband, says the Lord. Enlarge the space for your tent, spread out your tent cloths unsparingly; lengthen your ropes and make firm your stakes. For you shall spread abroad to the right and to the left; your descendants shall dispossess the nations and shall people the desolate cities. 
 
 Fear not, you shall not be put to shame; you need not blush, for you shall not be disgraced. The shame of your youth you shall forget, the reproach of your widowhood no longer remember. For he who has become your husband is your Maker; his name is the Lord of hosts; Your redeemer is the Holy One of Israel, called God of all the earth. The Lord calls you back, like a wife forsaken and grieved in spirit, A wife married in youth and then cast off, says your God. When the messengers of John the Baptist had left, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John. “What did you go out to the desert to see a reed swayed by the wind? Then what did you go out to see? Someone dressed in fine garments? Those who dress luxuriously and live sumptuously are found in royal palaces. Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. This is the one about whom Scripture says: 
 
Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, he will prepare your way before you. 
 
I tell you, among those born of women, no one is greater than John; yet the least in the Kingdom of God is greater than he.” (All the people who listened, including the tax collectors, who were baptized with the baptism of John, acknowledged the righteousness of God; but the Pharisees and scholars of the law, who were not baptized by him, rejected the plan of God for themselves.)

ALL DEVOTIONALS LESS THAN FIVE MINUTES LONG. The Creator made the heavens and the earth and entered His creation to solve the sin problem and give hope. Jesus died on the cross to transform all who are willing. The Scriptures are an unfailing guide for living a rational and joy-filled life of selfless goodness toward all. Your Father in heaven desires to give you the kingdom! Many have rejected a caricature of Christianity. And yet, the existence of significant caricatures points to an authentic original. There is a path of hope and an abundant life. Jesus said, "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled." You long for something more. You can have it beginning today. You can receive all, but you must give all. Many are not ready to give all. My desire is that this channel will help people taste and see that the Lord is good.

The Coming of Jesus Enables Us to Rejoice 
 
The Third Sunday in Advent has traditionally been called by the Latin word Gaudete, meaning “Rejoice!” For as you are called to repentance, so also are you urged to rejoice in the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. By His own cross, He has accomplished salvation for you; “He has cleared away your enemies,” “taken away the judgments against you” and come to reign in your midst. Indeed, He rejoices over you with gladness and song (Zeph. 3:15–17)! Therefore, even from prison St. Paul encourages us to “rejoice in the Lord always,” knowing that the peace of God will guard and keep us in Christ Jesus (Phil. 4:4, 7). We find an example and encouragement in the case of John the Baptist. As he languishes in prison, he calls upon Jesus and is strengthened by the Word of the Gospel that he receives. The same good news is preached to you, by which all things are made new and even “the dead are raised up” (Luke 7:22). Do not be offended by the cross, therefore, but let your life be one of prayer and thanksgiving (Luke 7:23; Phil. 4:6).
