Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules: (Colossians 2:20)
It is possible to live as a Christian, attend a Christian church, and observe the familiar Christian practices, and still not be a true Christian. A Christian is someone who is each day partaking of the death of Christ.
“Climbing Jacob’s ladder” means each day we are partaking of the sufferings of Christ, and consequently His resurrection Life. Each day we die in Christ. Each day we live in Christ. It is as simple and straightforward as that!
What does it mean to “die” in Christ? It means to set aside our own thinking, planning, hopes, desires, prayers, speaking, and behaving, and adopt the thinking, planning, hopes, desires, prayers, words, and action of the living Lord Jesus. This means we are looking to Him constantly.
Although we meditate in the Scriptures daily, our fellowship is not with the Bible it is with our living Lord Jesus.
We deliberately and continually set aside our own life and seek the Life and actions of another Person.
