Eve

Eve

by Robert B. Thompson
So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals. But for Adam no suitable helper was found. So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs [or part of his side] and then closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib [part] he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. (Genesis 2:20-22)
Let us think back for a moment to this tremendously important event.
We can imagine the young Eve, pretty, loving, with outstretched arms enthusiastically appearing in front of Adam.
Adam at this time new nothing about love, but Eve soon would teach him.
Adam, as probably would have been true of most men, was still occupied with naming the creatures surrounding him.
Instead of perceiving what a jewel God had given him and greeting the mother of mankind with open arms, declared that she was to be called “woman.”
How often we miss the great things of God because we are occupied with our own programs.
No doubt Eve was extraordinarily beautiful and Adam came to realize this in time. Perhaps the children played hide and seek among the trees in the garden.
One day Eve suddenly stopped running. There was a thoughtful look on her face. Adam ran up to her and then stopped, wondering what was going on.
