The Conqueror and Study Guide

The rewards assigned to the overcomer described in the second and third chapters of the Book of Revelation are aspects of the first resurrection from the dead. They are the life, authority, power, and union with God through Christ that God’s kings and priests must possess if they are to perform their predestined roles in the Kingdom of God.
What does it mean to overcome, to conquer? Is it necessary for the Christian believer to be a conqueror in order for him to attain to the first resurrection, to rule with Christ at His appearing? If so, how does the believer become a conqueror? How can the disciple be certain he is living as one of Christ’s conquerors?
To be a conqueror does not mean we imitate Jesus successfully. Rather it requires that we begin to recognize there is only one Conqueror and His name is the Lord Jesus Christ. As He, God’s Conqueror, is formed in us by the power of God, we through Him are enabled to conquer Satan.
