Leonard Ravenhill (1907 - 1994)

A revivalist and man of God who sought God's will above all else. He was a man of prayer who practiced what he preached. He wrote the book: 'Why Revival Tarries' which has become a classic on revival. His prophetic edge and burden made him to be respected by some and disliked by others. Yet he stayed true to God's call on his life prayed and pleading for true heaven sent revival.

"Those who know of Leonard Ravenhill recognize in him the religious specialist, the man sent from God to battle the priests of Baal on their own mountain top, to shame the careless priest at the altar, to face the false prophet, and to warn the people who are being led astray by him. " - Tozer | "Leonard Ravenhill was one of the few men I have ever known who was a true prophet." - David Wilkerson

Leonard Ravenhill was a Christian evangelist and author who focused on the subjects of prayer and revival. He is best known for challenging the modern church and his most notable book is Why Revival Tarries.

He was a student of church history and an expert in the field of revival. His meetings during the war years drew large crowds in Britain, and as a result many converts devoted themselves to Christian ministry and the world's mission fields.

Through his teaching and books, Ravenhill addressed the disparities he perceived between the New Testament Church and the Church in his time and called for adherence to the principles of biblical revival.

Leonard Ravenhill became one of the twentieth century's greatest authorities on revival. His message is drastic, fearless, and often radical.

Appalled by the disparity between the New Testament Church and what passes for the Church today, Ravenhill gives a no-compromise call to the principles of biblical revival.

The cost might be prison, for it were better that he should be ‘‘the prisoner of the Lord’’ for a few years than that his fellow men should be the devil’s prisoners in hell forever.

was exceptional in suffering, which was often by the choice of others, but exceptional in prayer, too, which was by his own choice. If more were strong in prayer, more would be suited to suffer. Prayer develops bone as well as groan, sinew as well as saintliness, fortitude as well as fire.

There is something very questionable and unbiblical about those who claim a baptism of the Spirit and yet know nothing of extended periods in prayer.

If we today could rediscover the virtue in that Name, the victory in that Name, the violence in that Name, we could set this world alight for God. Most of us have enough grace to scrape through the day, but we have nothing over. We are conquerors but are not “more than conquerors.” We can fight off the enemy but cannot take any prisoners. Ours is a defense action, not an attacking power.

Neglect of prayer is an effrontery to God, for by it we are saying that we have confidence in the flesh and can operate the spiritual life on a do-it-yourself basis.

He who would teach the people to pray must first himself be given to prayer.

The Gospel is a fact; therefore tell it simply. The Gospel is a joyful fact; therefore tell it cheerfully. The Gospel is an entrusted fact; therefore tell it faithfully. The Gospel is a fact of infinite moment; therefore tell it earnestly. The Gospel is a fact of infinite love; therefore tell it feelingly. The Gospel is a fact of difficult comprehension to many; therefore tell it with illustration. The Gospel is a fact about a Person; therefore preach Christ. —ARCHIBALD BROWN

Do not we rest in our day too much on the arm of flesh? Cannot the same wonders be done now as of old? Do not the eyes of the Lord still run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong on behalf of those who put their trust in Him? Oh, that God would give me more practical faith in Him! Where is now the Lord God of Elijah? He is waiting for Elijah to call on Him. —JAMESGILMOUR OF MONGOLIA

Yet it is strangely true that we can get more ‘‘apparent’’ concern for people across the world than for our perishing neighbors across the street! With all our mass-evangelism, souls are won only in hundreds. Let an atom bomb come and they will fall by the thousands into hell.
