In this important teaching Jesus had lots to say to these men as He warned them about the sufferings, persecution, and sorrow that they will face as His Apostles as they begin building the Church of Christ.

In last week’s Gospel, we heard that Scribes and Pharisees who were always looking for ways to find fault with Jesus so they could condemn Him, were grumbling that He was spending time with tax collectors and sinners teaching them the Gospel’s message of repentance and the forgiveness of sins. 
 
In today’s Gospel, some time has passed since this last event, however, we have another encounter with the enemies of Jesus, this time with the chief priests and the scribes along with the elders of the people, and again, Jesus told another parable to try to teach them the error of their ways and get them to turn back to God; a parable that these men would know without doubt, was aimed directly at them.

This morning we have before us another very familiar portion of Scripture, one that you’ve heard many times before, one that is preached every year as a precursor to Lent. 
 
And this year the text is taken from St. Luke’s Gospel account of the Transfiguration of the Godman, Jesus Christ, where His face was altered, His clothing became dazzling white, as He stood on a high mountaintop, speaking with Moses and Elijah!

And His teaching is put in the form of a command: “Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven…” 
 
As we study today’s text, I have to warn you, it’s going to sting a bit!
