Sermon preached at Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church (Sioux Falls, SD) by Pr. Benjamin Tomczak.
As you bear the cross, as you die daily to sin, as you die daily to self, as you die daily to a world pushing crosses upon you, as all this happens, now God says, “Let there be light.” This time it’s not light in the sky. It’s the light of the glory of God in the face of Christ. This time it’s God giving you someone to listen to. Someone who says, “We’ll talk more after I’ve risen from the dead.” That’s the kicker. All this glory Jesus displays…he uses it to die. He uses it to bear your sin. He uses it then to rise from the dead. He uses it to kill you and raise you from the dead. He uses it to give you gifts. He surrounds you, and just as you’re convinced, convinced as convinced can be that you are dead meat, because you see your life. You see how little you listen. You see that only hell is for you. You see the cloud of God begin to surround you. Then, then, it’s just Jesus. It’s Jesus who says, “I’ve risen from the dead. Let’s talk. I have something for you. Take it, eat it, drink it, bathe in it. It’s me for you.” What you see on the mountain is that it is God for you.
