This book of the Bible contains 31 chapters, one for each day of the month. Written around 950-700 B.C. The author was King Solomon who was recognized as one of the wisest of men. This wisdom was given to him by the Lord (1Kings 3:12). The central verse is Chapter 3 verse 5 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths." Read the book of Proverbs for instruction, guidance and understanding, which the reader will find of profit in daily living if the instructions and warnings are heeded. Guidance is given on practical daily issues: avoiding adultery, attaining wisdom, gaining understanding, shunning gossip, finding a wife (husband), training children, honoring parents, and the danger of riches. It also warns of the danger of destruction of those who despise reproof. Instruction is given for living both for moral and religious purposes where "the fear of the Lord" is the central theme. In this book William MacDonald provides a verse by verse commentary explaining some of the difficult subjects and instructions. This book is excellent for your personal study, or could be used as a guide for a group Bible study on each verse.
