This year we celebrate the God who has not called us to live under, over, for, or from God, but in Jesus came to be with us. At Christmas, we remember again God loves us so much he came to be like us and with us. Unfortunately, we can often unintentionally live from God, treating God like a giant vending machine, rather than as our loving father.

Zion Kids Christmas Service and Luke 1:11-14, 18-19 ~ With: From God

Last week  we launched a new message series called “The Grudge”. We’re talking all about forgiveness for the next few weeks. This Sunday we will be talking about the hard work of forgiving people who have hurt or betrayed us. How do we learn to forgive not just once, but even 7 times in a day, as Jesus commands us in the gospel of Luke.

Luke 17:1-5 - The Grudge: Faith to Forgive

We have a tendency to carry painful parts of our past with us: resentment against people who’ve hurt us, mistakes we’ve made, or even bitterness toward God. This series will show attenders how to recognize the grudges they’re carrying against others and themselves, and how the pain we hold on to weighs us down and keeps us from stepping into the freedom that God has for us. This week we consider the importance of letting go of the small offenses to stay focused on our calling to love others in Jesus' name.

In this series to start the new year, we will explore some spiritual and practical steps you can take to become the person you want to be in five years. This week, we look consider the power of small things,  mustard seed sized acts, when empowered by God to bear fruit in our lives and world.

This week, many people will go to the polls. Votes will be cast. Those already submitted will be counted. And then, on Wednesday or maybe a few days later after all the early ballots have been counted, our nation will have chosen its leaders for the next few years. Based on news accounts, social media feeds, and conversations, many people are anxious about this election. It feels like the most important election of their lives. As we consider Isaiah 40 this Sunday, we remember God is our true hope. He is our true security. And in him we find the joy and life we need.

Zion is a place where our youth are encouraged to serve regularly in important ways, in leadership roles, throughout our church and in worship services. But today, our youth ministry is getting even more involved in leading worship. Our high school and middle school youth groups created this worship service from the concept of intergenerational ministry. They chose songs to relate to all ages, involved multiple generations and generational concepts in their skits, created and edited videos on their own, built and decorated a sermon response, and created intrigue by posting multigenerational pictures throughout the hallways. Today we look Psalm 78:1-8 together and wonder how we can do our best to pass on the faith to the next generation.

An angry prophet. A fearsome and hated enemy. An overwhelming storm. And a surprising message of a merciful God to his people. The story of Jonah is one of the most well-known stories in the Bible. It is also one of the most misunderstood. Many people, even those who are not religious, are familiar with Jonah: a rebellious prophet who defies God and is swallowed by a whale. But there's much more to Jonah's story than most of us realize. As we continue our study of Jonah, we find our prophet confronted by both his own self-centeredness and the surprising righteousness of the pagans around him.
