Prayer is important because it connects us to God, allowing us to tell Him our needs, ask for forgiveness, and thank Him for His goodness. However, the Lord Jesus Christ Himself warned the disciples of kinds of prayer that we should try to avoid.

First is the public prayer. Jesus was not against praying in public, but the fact that they were only praying WHEN they are in public. When there’s no one around, no real communication takes place between them and God.

The next is the wordy prayer. Again, Jesus is not saying that it is wrong to say lengthy prayers, just do not memorize them. God wants prayers that come from the heart. He prayed the popular Lord’s Prayer, not for us to repeat it word for word, but to serve as a pattern for us what to pray for.
