In Session 8 of our Summer Study, Daisy Dronen talks about Paul’s life as a living sacrifice poured out for the gospel of Jesus Christ. She also discusses the importance of holding a right view of earthly friendships, and how we can suffer for and serve our Savior with hope-- knowing that one day, our ultimate rescue will come. Daisy wants to live in a world where peony bouquets are an accessory, the art of handwritten notes is restored, and every afternoon is spent with a cup of tea and great shortbread. When she's not raising her three littles, she is dating the love of her life, cooking, and gathering others around her table. Creating real community makes her heart beat wildly, because she believes that we know Jesus more intimately when we know each other well. One of her favorite passages of Scripture is Psalm 27:13-14.

In Session 7 of our Summer Study, Megan Rund talks about the foundational work of Scripture as Paul describes it to Timothy, and how Timothy should use Scripture to complete his mission. Megan also discusses Paul’s warnings for Timothy about those who use Scripture for their own sinful purposes, and how a right view of Scripture changes everything.

When she's not trying to keep up with the household, you can find her tending to her vegetable garden, helping her husband plan their next home renovation project, or dreaming about visiting another National Park. She and her husband, Derek, have been married for 16 years and have three kids, ages 12, 9, and 7. Summer Study 2020 || Session 7: 2 Timothy 3:10-4:5

This week, Laura takes us through 2 Timothy 3:1-9, where Paul describes 28 specific sins. This weighty list arrests our attention and serves as a warning about sin that is able to destroy both our hearts and our Church. We are all burdened with sin, but there is good news: Jesus has already carried all sin for all time to the cross. Paul calls Timothy and us to look outward and be wary of false teachers, look inward and repent of our own sin, and look upward to remember that we know the one who carried our sin. We can be free of shame because of Jesus. 
 
Laura Swain longs to live in a world where every woman lives free of shame in her identity as a daughter of God. She’s a wife, children’s lit enthusiast, and homeschool mom of four. It’s hard for her to choose just one favorite scripture, but she loves Isaiah 52:6, when Yahweh says: “Therefore my people will know my name; therefore they will know on that day that I am he who says: Here I am.”

Jillian wants to live in a world where the front yard knows how to landscape itself, where handwritten letters aren’t such a rare occurrence, and where everyone takes a one hour reading break midday. She’s celebrating her ten year anniversary with her brilliant husband, Tim, this August. Jillian is a boy mom to 3 boys, and will send her oldest to kindergarten this fall! Her favorite verse (lately) is Lamentations 3:21-26.

We will talk about the soldier, the athlete, and the farmer, and finally, Jesus, our ultimate example of endurance. It is Jesus who we continually remember to give us strength for the work and suffering for the gospel. Paul ends this section with a little poetry, a hymn of praise that he interjects into the middle of this letter to Timothy.
