Daniel 11:31 describes how he desecrates the Jewish temple, abolishes daily sacrifices and sets up the abomination that causes desolation. This is the same abomination of desolation that Jesus warned about. Finally, the ruler that’s introduced in Daniel 11:21 is the same guy discussed in the rest of the passage. Yes, this is the Antichrist. 
 
Daniel 11:21-45 calls the Antichrist the King of the North. This title described the leaders of the Seleucid Empire, which was based in Syria and Iraq. Daniel 8:9 says the Antichrist rises out of the western part of the Seleucid Empire, Syria. Daniel 11:21 says the same thing. Maneuvering behind the scenes, the Antichrist either becomes the new ruler or the power behind the throne. This coup won’t win him any friends in the Middle East. It leads to the Daniel 11:22 War, which is an upset victory for the Antichrist. 
 
Israel is involved in this war because a “prince of the covenant“ is defeated. That’s probably a reference to an Israeli ruler or general. The other nations are likely from the Middle East and North Africa because most of those countries don’t recognize Israel’s sovereignty over Jerusalem. Well, Daniel 9:27 says the international recognition of Israel’s sovereignty is a key part of the Antichrist’s seven-year deal, because the agreement confirms an existing covenant. The covenant is the agreement God made with Abraham, the unconditional promise of the land of Israel to the Jewish people. Daniel 11:28-30 adds that the Antichrist’s deal confirms this holy covenant. 
 
Anyway, although Israel’s sovereignty over Jerusalem is internationally recognized, Israel has to divide its land. Joel 3:2 prophesies that God judges the nations in the end times because they divided the land of Israel. 
 
So, look for Israel and several Arab nations to attack Syria and lose. The resulting peace deal begins the end times.
