Charles Spurgeon wrote that "when we get away from self to God, there all is truth and purity and holiness, and our heart finds peace, wisdom, completeness, delight, joy, victory." The closer we come to God, the more it shows in our lives. Even though our faces may not shine from these experiences, our lives become reflections of God's magnificent glory (Bible, Expositor and Illuminator Union Gospel Press, Fall Quarter 2020).

If God calls you to a task as He did Moses, He will be with you in it. He will give you help directly and from others in your life. Our prayer for you is that you catch a glimpse of the glory of God's presence; that glimpse will drive you to seek His face forever. We will never see God as Moses did in this life, but we can be assured that we will see Him even more clearly when we see the Lord Jesus in Heaven. 
As Moses spent time in God's glorious presence, human ambition lost its grip on his life. May this be true of us as we embrace what God has planned for us. The Apostle Paul desired to "press toward the mark" (Phil. 3:14). He wanted to know Christ more closely and become more like Him. People who serve in government, elected or otherwise, are often called public servants. That is a good term, for it describes what such people are to do-serve the public. Of course, we are reminded far too often that many so-called public servants are more interested in serving themselves than in actually serving the public. 
We can understand why some public servants become cynical and start viewing their job as just a means of earning a paycheck. Serving people is not easy. It means putting up with and sometimes confronting angry, unreasonable, selfish people. And it often means that no matter what the leaders do, half the people are going to hate it and maybe even hate them. 
Jesus said the greatest among us are those who serve others (Mark 10:42-45). Those who selflessly seek to serve others are worthy of our prayers, as are all who are in positions of authority (1Tim. 2:1-2). Their task is difficult and made harder still if we fail to pray for them.

Moses certainly had a role in delivering the law to the people of Israel and teaching them. However, in a broader sense, God Himself was the author of the commands and was Israel’s divine Teacher. 
This concept stood in direct contrast to the thinking of the ancient world, where documents indicate that laws were given to people by their king, not their gods. But here, the God of Israel “provided his laws directly to his covenant people and . . . he actually wrote the basic ones (the Ten Words/Commandments) personally on stone as a sign that all his laws directly from him and are not the product of human invention. Israel’s teacher was thus God himself, who gave them his covenant ‘for their instruction (Stuart quoted in Bible, Expositor and Illuminator Union Gospel Press, Fall Quarter 2020).

Almost anyone is susceptible to burnout. The demands and pressures of life can challenge people physically, mentally, and emotionally. Management textbooks and seminars tell us that one of the primary means of dealing with stress and avoiding burnout is delegation-assigning authority or responsibility to others. Stress and burnout are nothing new, of course. And neither is the mechanism of delegation to relieve stress and improve efficiency. Life is filled with both joy and sorrow. Why some people seem to have more or less joy or sorrow than others is one of the enigmas of the human condition.  Obviously, sin, either directly or indirectly is at the root of many of the sorrows we experience.  While some sorrow can be traced to bad choices on our part, others cannot. The book of Job demonstrates that even the righteous may suffer greatly. Job tragically lost his children, his health, and his wealth. Those who have experienced deep sorrow will probably recognize the five stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. While people in the biblical world did not enjoy the technological advances and modern conveniences we take for granted, they dealt with sickness, sorrow, and death in much the same way we do. In short, things have not changed in thousands of years (Bible, Expositor and Illuminator (Union Gospel Press, Summer Quarter 2020).
