He recently retired from being the ministry coordinator at Pittwater Presbyterian Church. 
 Rob comes with a wealth of ministry experience including being the NSW Coordinator of Youth And Children Work for Bible Society and the Schools Coordinator for Scripture Union.

Rob has preached in over 600 Churches across Australia. Rob has also taught at a dozen Bible or Theological colleges. He has written 23 books mainly aimed at being resources for Youth Ministry.

Some myths about Forgiveness 
 
g. YOU CAN FORGIVE AND FORGET 
“forgive and forget”, quite simply, 
is psychologically impossible. 
 
But we can pray that what we have forgiven 
no longer has power over us. 
 
We can pray for healing. 
 
h. BECAUSE YOU FORGIVE SOMEONE 
DOES NOT MEAN 
THAT YOU CANNOT HAVE JUSTICE 
You may forgive a criminal 
but they may need to still go to goal. 
 
It is not our responsibility to seek justice 
but God’s and the courts 
 
Do not diminish the gravity of the offence, 
 
Romans 12:19 “Beloved, 
never avenge yourselves, 
but leave it to the wrath of God, 
for it is written, 
‘Vengeance is mine, 
I will repay, says the Lord’” 
 
1/ FORGIVENESS IT RARELY 
A ONE OFF EVENT BUT A PROCESS 
We can ask God to change us to be forgiving people even when we do not feel like forgiving 
 
 
j. FORGIVENESS CAN BE COSTLY 
Forgiving people can come at great personal cost and can be hard. 
 
For Jesus it cost him his life 
 
 
k. WHAT IF I CANNOT FORGIVE 
This is where pray comes in. 
Some things only the Holy Spirit 
can change within us.

One of the hardest things for a church 
to go through is serious conflict 
or unresolved issues. 
 
Often both sides think that God 
is on their side 
and that they are fighting for God 
 
What are two major issues 
1. A GODLESS PASTOR 
In life we have some key positions of power 
Bosses, politicians, public figures, husband or wives, parents 
any positions that give people the idea that they can control others. 
 
Our relationship with God, 
for a believer is central 
to who they are. 
 
If a Pastor sees themselves as your mediator 
and God’s spokesman it can end in trouble. 
 
My sermons impact 
is not because I am the preacher 
but should be from the scriptures 
that I seek to reveal 
 
Sadly some preachers think 
that their sermons are equal to the Bible. 
They are full of their opinions and very little scripture 
 
When Talking about Pastors Paul says 
Titus 1:7-9 
 
The best word for a pastor is God’s servant. 
 
Matthew 20:25 “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles 
lord it over them, 
and their great ones exercise authority over them. 
It shall not be so among you. 
But whoever would be great among you 
must be your servant” 
 
Sadly Sex, money and abuse of power 
are key reasons for removing pastors. 
 
Pastors can bully Staff, helpers, volunteers, the congregation. 
 
2 Tim 2:24 
 
The prohibition against being quarrelsome 
does not rule out disagreement, 
debate, or even vigorous theological exchanges. 
 
But it does rule out language or behaviour that is belittling, abusive, harsh, or derogatory. 
 
In contrast, the qualified Christian leader is “kind to everyone.” 
 
• Not domineering, but setting an example. 
• Not a bully, but gentle 
• Not lording it over, but being a servant. 
• Not quarrelsome, but kind 
 
 
The second area is Church members who are power players, 
The issues may be rejecting the Scriptures, living in sin, wanting their way, 
power games, gossiping, causing disruption. 
 
The problem 
Paul said he was coming to them (1 Cor 16:5) but did not, 
 
The Corinthian Christians had become cynical. 
They believed that everyone had bad motives 
and was out for personal gain and power. 
 
They didn’t trust Paul because they were cynical. 
 
I have a friend who was badly burnt by 2 Churches. 
It is now hard for him to not view 
every minister to be our for money. 
 
Manipulating for power and money. 
 
Sadly, they may pad out their comments by 
saying I would like to share a prayer point which is really gossip. 
 
Or paint a pious picture with holy language 
but hiding a knife that they hold to your throat 
 
Lets turn to 2 Cor and see how Paul dealing with a head strong Church. 
 
16-17 
Paul wanted the Corinthian Christians to know he had no “hidden meanings” in his letters. His meaning was right out on top for all to see. 
 
i. A cynical heart always thinks, “You say this, 
but you really mean that. 
You aren’t telling the truth.” 
 
Paul assured the Corinthian Christians 
that he really told the truth 
and he didn’t communicate 
with manipulative hidden meanings 
 
Yes he wanted to visit them 
but he could not. 
This is not grounds to attack him 
 
1. Churches will hit conflicts 
Charges against Paul 
Accusations will often go too far 
They have turned the fact that he could not visit to attack him. 
They were looking for an excuse to attack.

Dealing with abusive pastors or disobedient congregation members - 2 Corinthians 1:12-24

1 Timothy 4:1 
Today we are looking at how Christians can be side tracked in the last days 
 
1.LATTER TIMES 
Now the Spirit expressly 
says that in later times 
 
Other translations: last, later or latter times or days, 
 
When talking about the end times 
the NIV uses End of the Age 
while the King James translated as End of the World 
 
The NIV saying age leads us with the question which age? 
 
The Age of Moses ended with the destruction of the temple thus AD 70. 
 
The King James saying end of the world is saying a totally different thing and is a poorer translation. 
 
When did the last days then begin 
Acts 2:17 
Thus the last days begins 
with the day of Pentecost not long after Jesus resurrection 
 
So we have been living in the last days 
for nearly 2,000 years. 
 
Could Jesus come back in the next ten years yes, 
but Jesus could also wait another 100 years.

a. MAJOR FALSE THEOLOGY 
Apostasy: "defection", "departure" or "rebellion"

Apostasy is a theological terms 
for those who have voluntarily 
and consciously abandoned their faith 
They may deny the Trinity, 
the resurrection, miracles, 
that Jesus is divine 
 
 
b. MINOR FALSE THEOLOGY 
Can misguided or distorted. 
a bit like a wheel with a warble. 
More poor theology than wrong theology 
 
 
 
c. FALSE ETHICS OR BEHAVIOUR 
The NT describes 
Temptation of sins: idolatry, sexual immorality, covetousness, greed 
 
Sadly people can take the world’s side on contemporary topics. 
Their wrong understanding of theology 
can lead to a wrong understanding of behaviour. 
 
i. cam be wrong or poor understanding of ethical issues 
 
ii. BULLIES Sadly some Christians are bullies and abusers and sadly driven by a self righteous behaviour. There is nothing worse than a Bible believing Christian who intimated others, wants there own way at all costs, and are often not aware of how bad they are. 
 
iii. Deceptions: Christians encountered various heresies 
and false teachings 
Luke 17:1-2 
2 It would be better for him if a millstone 
were hung around his neck 
and he were cast into the sea 
than that he should cause one of these little ones to sin. 
 
 
d. PERSECUTIONS: 
Christians were persecuted by 
the governing powers of the day 
for their allegiance to Christ.

wanting to reach the other men in his army outfit,

to share his faith at the pub.

they responded “Why, you are as drunk as us” 
He passion had been sidetracked

When talking about the end times
the NIV uses End of the Age
while the King James translated as End of the World
 
The NIV saying age leads us with the question which age?
 
The Age of Moses ended with the destruction of the temple thus AD 70.
 
The King James saying end of the world is saying a totally different thing and is a poorer translation.
 
When did the last days then begin
Acts 2:17 
Thus the last days begins
with the day of Pentecost not long after Jesus resurrection
 
So we have been living in the last days
for nearly 2,000 years.
 
Could Jesus come back in the next ten years yes,
but Jesus could also wait another 100 years.
