ROMANS 8:14-17 
Now, let's pick up again in Romans Chapter 8. In the last lesson we left off in verse 24 where Paul continues: 
Romans 8:24 
Well, we are, but faith and hope are in the same meaning, actually); but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?" 
Faith. Let's go back to the Book of Hebrews, Chapter 11, for a moment, and look at a verse on hope and faith. 
Hebrews 11:1 
"Now faith (taking God at His Word) is the substance (the very meat) of things hoped for (just like in Romans Chapter 8), the evidence (the proof) of things not seen." 
My faith isn't blind my faith is documented, and that's what The Word is all about. Verse 1 again: 
For by it (faith) the elders obtained a good report (now here it is again in verse 3). Through faith (by simply taking God at His Word) we (believers) understand that the worlds (the universe) were framed by the word of God,..." Because God is infinite. There is no putting an outer shell on God's creation. Finishing verse 3: 
Hebrews 11:3 
"Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen (tangible) were not made of things which do appear." 
So faith and hope, then, are so intricately intertwined. Now, come back to Romans Chapter 8. 
Romans 8:24b 
Now, verse 25. 
Romans 8:25 
"But if we hope (again by faith) for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it." 
With God, time doesn't mean much. We wait patiently. Christ is going to return. Now, verse 26 and let's move into a little deeper area. 
Romans 8:26 
"Likewise the Spirit (the Holy Spirit who is now indwelling us, according to Paul's teaching) also helpeth our infirmities (our weaknesses. God can strengthen us in our places of infirmity): for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered." 
I John 2:1 
"My little children (who is he talking to? Believers! He doesn't call the unbelieving world his children. Just because we're under Grace, just because the sin is always less than God's Grace, that doesn't give us license. Don't sin!). And, if any man sin (that's conditional. I've told my classes over the years, and I think I've even said on the program, this is one of the miracles of our God. Now, back in Romans 8, the Holy Spirit is interceding on behalf of us. A little later in this chapter, no wonder Paul will write, "If God be for us, who can be against us?" We've got all three Persons constantly working on our behalf. Let's read on. 
Romans 8:27 
"And he that searcheth the hearts (this is the area in which God works. Absolutely! The Holy Spirit intercedes on our behalf and the Son intercedes on our behalf to the Father. Romans 8:28a 
"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God..." 
The believer! God may bring some tough things into our lives. Remember the illustration that I gave you about the young lady, when invited to partake of the love of God said, "I hate God!" Well, God's there, but it's their problem, not His. Now, let's continue with verse 28:

Now, that's not heaven or hell. That's a position that God has reserved for every individual believer. Ephesians 1:4 
Now, watch verse 5: 
Ephesians 1:5 
We were predestinated, not to heaven or hell, but we're predestinated as a believer to this position right there with Christ from day one as a joint heir in the process of the adoption. Ephesians 1:11 
Just like we saw in Romans 8, that we are joint heirs with Christ. Now, if you're a joint heir that means whatever belongs to the other party is yours. The heir does. Now, reading verse 11 again: 
Ephesians 1:11 
God has predetermined everything. Let's go back to the Book of Acts for a moment and let me show you a verse that ties in. "Him (Jesus), being delivered (up to be crucified) by the determinate counsel (It's the same word) and foreknowledge of God (notice the language is the same as it was in Ephesians 1:11), ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:" 
Now, what's a determinate counsel? It's a meeting of the minds (plural). The Trinity. Way back in eternity past, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, came together and by a determinate agreeing of their three minds, they decided to create the universe, and they decided to put in little old planet earth, and on it they would put the human race. God put the finger on everyone of us and said, "I have a place waiting for you." "Chosen in Him, before the world was ever created." We have to decide for ourselves, and yet the moment we decide God says. "I chose you."

ROMANS 8:14-17 
We're going back to pick up again in Romans Chapter 8 verse 18. Romans 8:18 
When Paul says the sufferings of this time, he knew what it was to suffer. Thrice (three times) was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice (three times) I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep (sea); In journeying often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness." 
Now, verse 19: 
Romans 8:19 
It is just all enveloping) of the creature (creation) waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God," 
Everything in nature, the mountains, the rivers, the rocks, the birds, the animals, everything is waiting for the day when the children of God will be manifested, which, of course, means to be raptured. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. Now, all of creation is looking for that day because all of creation knows that will trigger the final days of the curse. Reading on in Romans 8: 
Romans 8:20 
"For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same (creation) in hope," 
Now, what's Paul talking about here? Well, the moment Adam sinned, what fell? The curse. Who came under the curse? Everything came under the awful effect of the curse. So as soon as the curse fell God came back with a remedy. Let's go back to Genesis Chapter 3 and verse 15. Genesis 3:15 
To destroy the Jew, the Nation of Israel, because God promised that everything would be fulfilled through that little nation. And if Satan could destroy the Jew then he thwarts God's plan for the ages, and so everything begins right here, this running battle. Skip on over to verse 17 where God speaks to Adam: 
Genesis 3:17-19 
"And unto Adam he said, `Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it; cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground;...'" 
Consequently, all of creation somehow or other is aware that they were subjected to the curse, but also they are aware that the day is coming when the curse will be lifted. Verse 20 again. 
Romans 8:20 
Now, verse 21. 
Romans 8:21 
"Because the creature (creation) itself (all of creation) also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption (the curse, and creation is going to be restored as it was before Adam fell. Remember. before the curse nothing ate meat, everything ate of that which grew naturally. The children of God) into the glorious liberty of the children of God." 
And remember when you become a believer you become a child of God. So what is all creation waiting for? Now, verse 21. 
Romans 8:22 
Luke 19:39,40 
Let's go to Psalms Chapter 148. When all of creation sees the Rapture of the believers, they know it's only a little while until the curse is lifted, and they will enter into that glorious dominion under Christ's rule and reign, and with Whom we, the believers, will be joint heirs. 
"Praise ye the LORD. Praise ye the LORD from the heavens: praise him in the heights. Praise ye him, all his angels: praise ye him, all his hosts. Praise ye him, sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars of light (the whole creation). Praise ye him, ye heavens, and ye waters that be above the heavens. Let them praise the name of the LORD: for he commanded, and they were created. It's going to happen when the curse is lifted, and Christ returns. Never! Let's look now at when the curse will be lifted, and the Scripture defines it so clearly. Isaiah 11:5-9 
Romans 8:22,23 
As I explained with the little cottontail rabbit, most of creation is under constant duress. Now, verse 23: 
The believer is the only one who is anxiously looking forward to The Lord's coming. The curse is going to be lifted, He's going to rule King of Kings, and Lord of Lords. Now reading verse 23 again: 
Romans 8:23 
The last part of verse 23 talks about the redemption of our body. The body hasn't experienced redemption because it's still under the curse. We all get sick and, if The Lord doesn't come, we're all going to die. The sealing of the Holy Spirit in verse 13 is the down payment.

ROMANS 8:1-14 
It all has to come from these letters of Paul. God forbid! Paul himself writes: 
We want to reach a multitude of people with the truth of God's Word. Now, back to Romans Chapter 8 verse 8. 
Romans 8:8 
"So then they that are in the flesh (that are under the control of old Adam) cannot please God." 
Now, verse 9: 
Romans 8:9 
Paul always writes only to believers. Why does Paul get into all of these ramifications of how we died with Christ, and how we've been raised from the dead with Him, when we're already saved? Oh, heaven forbid, but once we've become a child of God, now what does God expect? Romans 8:9 
"But ye are not in the flesh (not under the control of old Adam), but in the Spirit (you're in Christ, your position has changed, you're no longer in the flesh and here's the condition), if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you...." 
Romans 1:16 
"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it (the Gospel) is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth;" I also like to use it with Romans 10:9-10, and Romans 10:13. 
Romans 10:9,10 
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." 
Romans 10:13 
Romans 5:8 
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Ephesians 1:13 
"In whom (Christ) ye also trusted (believed), after that ye heard the word of truth (now there's the sequence. Let's come back to Romans 8. And remember, you're not in the flesh, and under the control of old Adam if the indwelling Holy Spirit is evident. Because if you have believed the Gospel, if you have believed the truth of it, then the Holy Spirit is in you, and if the Holy Spirit is in you then you're a believer. Colossians 2:13 
II Corinthians 5:14,15 
The Gospel. Now, verse 16: 
II Corinthians 5:16 
Christ in His earthly ministry. Hey, we're not following any man in the flesh, we are to now take Christ after the work of the Cross, after His death, burial, and Resurrection. He's ascended into glory, now that's the Christ that we're attached to. Oh, I grant you it's the same man, the same God, but nevertheless the Christ before the Cross was not the object of our Salvation that He is after the Cross. We're not preaching Jesus in His earthly ministry. II Corinthians 5:16 
"Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh (that's why I know he's talking about Jesus and His earthly ministry) yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh (Paul lived at the same time that Christ did), yet now henceforth know we him no more." 
Our Salvation is not based on the earthly ministry of Jesus. The verse I wanted to show you is verse 17. 
II Corinthians 5:17 
The Christ of the work of the the Cross, the Christ in Resurrection power, the Christ Who is now seated in the Heavenlies at the right hand of the Father) if any man be in Christ,..." 
Continuing the verse: 
II Corinthians 5:17 
"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation..." 
I made the analogy that that dead spirit in Adam was like a dead battery in your car. You've got power. We've been dead as a result of Adam's sin, and it takes an outside source of power. It takes the power of God to energize our spirit, and when He energizes the spirit He makes us a new person. Now, reading verse 17 again: 
II Corinthians 5:17 
"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature (creation): old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." 
The evidence of Salvation is a total change in lifestyles, and old things absolutely fall away. Paul tells us that: 
Absolutely. Now, let's turn back to Romans Chapter 8, and read verse 9 again. 
Romans 8:9 
"But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit (you're under His control instead of old Adam), if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man (anyone) have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his." 
Here is the criteria; if you have the indwelling Holy Spirit, you're in Christ, and how do you get the Holy Spirit? I Corinthians 15:1-4) And when you believe the Gospel for your Salvation then God does it all. Let's go to the little Book of I John Chapter 3, starting with verse 1: How beautifully this fits with what Paul is writing in Romans and Ephesians. I John 3:1 
Now, verse 2: 
I John 3:2 
That means you pray for The Lord's coming! Because Jerusalem will have no peace until the Prince of Peace is back in Jerusalem. Absolutely! Never in all of Scripture does the human being operate without a body. Let's turn to Philippians, Chapter 3. Philippians 3:20,21

Romans 8:3 
"For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin (in other words to take the place of that old Adam so that we could be crucified with Him), condemned (old Adam) sin in the flesh:" 
I'm using the words "old Adam" in place of the singular word `sin' throughout the Book of Romans, because that's what it's really talking about. Romans 8:4 
"That the righteousness of the law..." 
The law was righteous. Let's follow that up in Galatians Chapter 4. From God's point of view it was absolutely perfect, and always will be. 
Galatians 4:8a,9 
"Howbeit then, when ye knew not God,... The Law. The Law was weak and beggarly, and yet they thought they wanted to go back under the Law. Back to Romans Chapter 8 again. 
Romans 8:4 
Turn over to Romans Chapter 13 for a moment, and let's look at verse 8. 
Romans 13:8 
"Owe no man any thing (or defraud no one), but to love one another: for he that loveth another (in other words the love of God is operating in that believer) hath fulfilled the law." Romans 13:10 
"Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love (the God-given love) is the fulfilling of the law." 
Nothing we could do would do it, but when the love of God that is imparted now through the power of the Holy Spirit works in our life then, yes, we fulfill the whole law. Back again to Romans Chapter 8. 
Romans 8:4 
"That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." 
It's a change in appetite, it's a change in our whole thought process. Because whereas we were once under the control of the world and the flesh, and the Devil, now we're under the control of the Spirit of God. Romans 8:5 
It's old Adam) do mind the things of the flesh (or old Adam. When a person is still out in the world, he's in spiritual darkness, he is blinded by the god of this world so that he can't believe. Romans 8:6a 
Sometimes Paul will speak of a carnal Christian, a carnal believer, one who is not Spirit-filled, and one who is not Spirit-directed. Now, read on: 
Romans 8:6a 
"For to be carnally minded is death;..." God has always had to be satisfied with just that small remnant. Romans 8:6 
"For to be carnally minded is death (spiritual death, and eternal doom without end); but to be spiritually minded is life and peace." 
And what kind of life? By faith! 
This next verse throws a curve at most people. Romans 8:7 
"Because the carnal mind (anyone who is still under the control of old Adam. Someone who has never had the power of the Gospel operate in their life, he is still the carnal mind, and that mind) is enmity against God;..." 
You talk to good people here in Oklahoma or anywhere else you can think of, and they'll say, "Well, no, I don't hate God. I love God, I believe in Him, I'm not His enemy." Now, how can The Book say that when people say the opposite. Because you see their old Adamic nature is still a rebel, and that's what people have to be convinced of. Their old Adamic nature is a natural born rebel against the things of God. Well, it's the same way with God. Now, reading on: 
Romans 8:7 
"Because the carnal mind is enmity against God (now the next part of that verse is shocking): for it (the Adamic mind) is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be." 
Because the unsaved person is not subject to the law of God. God doesn't expect the unbeliever to keep His law. God doesn't expect the unbeliever to be a good person, because God sees down in his nature that he's anything but good. Romans 3:10-12 
"As it is written, `There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth (that is in that old Adamic nature), there is none that seeketh after God. Romans 3:13-18 
Romans 8:7 
"Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be." 
That mankind is not subject to the law of God, and can't be? We've seen that in the drug war, they can't stop the drugs, and they'll never stop the drugs until people stop wanting to use them. See? When people stop using drugs then the whole business will fall apart. Verse 8, and here's a conclusive thought: if this is the state of mankind which is lost; if this is the way people are when they are outside of the Gospel, outside of being positionally "in Christ," then: 
Romans 8:8 
"So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God." 
One of the absolutes of Scripture is in Hebrews Chapter 11, the great faith chapter: 
Hebrews 11:6 
(God) 
And so the unbeliever who is an enemy of God is an enemy simply because he has does not have faith.

Romans 6:13a 
"Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin:..." 
Or old Adam. The constant admonition of Paul's letters to the believer is, "Don't give in to old Adam." Romans 6:13 
"Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead (because that's what we are. We have been raised from that deadness in the old Adam), and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God." Romans 6:14 
"For sin (singular, old Adam, the old Adamic nature) shall not have dominion over you (now I trust all of you know what dominion is. Don't let him have dominion or let him influence you to live the life of the flesh): for ye are not under the law, but under grace." 
You are under grace. For 1500 years the Nation of Israel was under the Law, and when I talk about the Law, I always have to remind people that it was severe. The Law was demanding, and there was no hanky panky under the Law, it was severe to the extreme. God is still dealing with the Nation of Israel under the Covenant promises, and under the Law, so consequently, there is nothing of Grace in there as we understand Grace. 
Grace has always been the attribute of God, because when Adam sinned way back there in the Garden of Eden, what attribute of God caused Him to go seeking for Adam and Eve? It was His Grace, we know it was. To the Gentiles. 
to bear my name before the Gentiles,...'" 
Well He couldn't send an apostle to the Gentiles, and promote the Law of Israel because that was only for the Nation of Israel. Let's jump ahead to the Book of Galatians, Chapter 2, for a moment, and this is all part and parcel of dividing Law and Grace, and there are a lot of people that absolutely don't understand that. Remember Paul is writing here to the Churches there in Asia Minor who are being deluged with Judaisers who are trying to bring these Gentile believers under the Law. Legalism! 
Galatians 2:1 
Paul writes: 
Galatians 2:2 
God had instructed it, and had led him up there), and communicated unto them (that would be Peter and the eleven, and other leaders of the Jerusalem believers) that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles (I Corinthians 15:1-4),..." 
It's all the same set of events, and this is what Paul was up against when he was trying to bring the Gospel of the Grace of God in the midst of Judaisers who were still under the Law. The Book says that these Jewish believers at Jerusalem were still so saturated with the Law that they tried to bring those Gentile believers of Paul's ministry up in Antioch under it. But Paul said that these Gentile believers were already saved and that they didn't have to keep the law of Moses because they are now under my Gospel which I'm preaching to the Gentiles. The Gentile believers at Antioch. And so they're telling Paul and Barnabas that they have to circumcise those Gentiles), and to command them to keep the law of Moses.'" 
This as plain as day, and then people try to tell me that the Gospel of Grace started way back there. Paul had been ministering to Gentiles up at Antioch, where the Scriptures says, "They were first called Christians." Galatians 2:4 
Back under the Law. Oh these Jewish believers at Jerusalem were still trying to hang the Law not only on Paul and Barnabas, but also on those Antioch Gentile believers. 
Galatians 2:5 
"To whom (Paul says) we gave place by subjection, no, not for an hour (they didn't give in); that the truth of the gospel (Paul's Gospel that he preached to the Gentile) might continue with you." 
What would have happened to Christianity if these Jewish leaders at Jerusalem would have convinced Paul that the Gentile believers had to subject themselves to the Mosaic system? I guess this is why a lot of people don't like Paul. Galatians 2:9 
Verse 14 again. 
Romans 6:14 
"For sin (old Adam) shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace." 
For the last 1900 + years God has been dealing with the whole human race, not just Gentiles, but even the Nation of Israel on the basis of His Grace. I'll say it again: "Very few people even among Christendom understand the Grace of God." Grace. Going back a couple of lessons we learned that where sin abounds, the Grace of God is always greater. Moody walked back, and said, "Young man what's the matter with you?" And the young man said, "Don't tell me the Grace of God can help, because you don't know what I've been." Dwight L. Romans 6:13a
"Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin:..."
Or old Adam. The constant admonition of Paul's letters to the believer is, "Don't give in to old Adam." Romans 6:13
"Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead (because that's what we are. We have been raised from that deadness in the old Adam), and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God." Romans 6:14
"For sin (singular, old Adam, the old Adamic nature) shall not have dominion over you (now I trust all of you know what dominion is. Don't let him have dominion or let him influence you to live the life of the flesh): for ye are not under the law, but under grace."

Now let's review verse 6 and come right on into verse 7. 
Romans 6:6a 
"Knowing this, that our old man (the old nature) is crucified (put to death)...: 
Let's stop and qualify. When Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden, and God had made only one stipulation, one responsibility, and that was not to eat of that one tree, God said: 
Ezekiel 18:4 
Romans 3:23 
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" 
And so God has mandated that as soon as Adam sinned, and as soon as every son of Adam has sinned, what has to be the result? Death! The soul that sinneth has to die. It's a command of God, but God gave mankind what we call a loophole. Yes we have to die, but we do not have to die in ourselves, we can take Christ's death as our substitution. Now let's read on. 
Romans 6:7 
"For he that is dead is freed from sin (or old Adam)." 
Well, it's the same way with regard to old Adam, the only way we can separate ourselves from that old Adamic nature is to put old Adam to death. And the moment that he dies, he loses that control over us. Romans 6:7 
"For he that is dead (been crucified) is now freed from sin (old Adam)." 
And until old Adam is put to death, he reigns as a king. Romans 6:8 
"Now if we be dead with Christ (if we have identified with that death then that's when we died, and that all comes by faith when we believe the Gospel), we believe that we shall also live with him:" 
Romans 6:9 
"Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him." 
Christ did not have to die over and over again. Hebrews 7:27 
Now turn on over to Chapter 9, and let's begin with verse 11.

Now let's also look at verse 25 and 26.

Hebrews 10:10-13 
II Corinthians 4:3 
"But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost." 
The old Adamic nature is ruling and reigning like a king, but they're lost. Now verse 4, and here is the crucial dilemma. 
II Corinthians 4:4 
"In whom the god (Satan) of this world (remember what Ephesians 2 said in the last lesson. lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them." 
A bright light, and that's what happens to a lot of people of this world who are lost. Now back to Romans Chapter 6, and reading verse 9 again. 
Romans 6:9,10 
For in that he died, he died unto sin once (He died to take care of that old Adamic nature of mankind once): but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God." 
Romans 6:11 
That puts us into that same category, so likewise) reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord." 
When we became believers, those of you who are genuine children of God, you're believers, you've accepted the Gospel and it's power for your Salvation; do you know that's when we were really given the free will? Romans 6:11a 
"Likewise reckon..." 
Are we going to live spiritual lives or are we going to live carnal, fleshly lives? The admonition of course is to be led of the Spirit, to live profitable lives, and to bring honor, and glory to the God of glory by keeping old Adam in subjection. But you have that free will, God has not taken that away from the believer. Romans 6:11 
"Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin (old Adam) but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:12 
"Let (implies choice) not sin (old Adam) reign (like a king. Don't let sin reign) in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof." 
If a true believer is going fool around in sin, and bring reproach upon the name of Christ, the first thing God will do is discipline him. Hebrews 12:6-9 
If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? God doesn't chasten the unbeliever, but He will chasten the believer if he starts dabbling in sin. If the chastening doesn't wake him up, and bring him to par then what will God do? We call that the sin unto death, and Paul certainly teaches that. Let's just read verse 5: This is a story about a believer who was committing a terrible sin. 
I Corinthians 5:5 
Well, God knows how to do all that better. God will not permit His name to be dragged by a believer through the mud of this world. Let's close with verse 13. 
Romans 6:12,13a 
Neither yield (it's a choice word again. Are we going to keep old Adam under subjection? Are we going to let Christ, and His Spirit reign like a king? Or are we going to give old Adam free reign, and let him reign like a king?)

OLD ADAM CRUCIFIED - ROMANS 3:19-22 
We found that the only remedy for the old Adam is for God to move in His omnipotent all-powerful omniscient way, and put old Adam to death so that we are rid of him so far as his power and influence is concerned, and get on with life with a new nature - a divine nature. Romans 3:23 
Until God does something we are falling short of the glory of God. We are sinners, or sons of Adam) have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" Now for a moment let's go to I Thessalonians Chapter 5, and let's begin at verse 23, and remember this is still Paul's writings. 
A body, soul and spirit; that's what The Book says. Genesis 1:26,27 
"And God said, `Let us (that's a plurality word, as it should be. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." 
Now when God created man in His image the first thing that you must understand from Scripture is this. God was not in the form of a man! It didn't mean that God was going to make someone that looked like He looked, because what was God? Spirit! The Triune God is still Spirit, and so the Triune God doesn't say that we are going to make a creature that looks like a spirit looks. The personality. 
When God created Adam then, He made him a triune being, he was a three-part being, not a Trinity, but a three-part being as I Thessalonians laid out - body, soul, and spirit. Remember God never had a body with the five senses that He could pattern us after. But here He was a personality comprised of mind, will, and emotions. Then the third part of Adam was the spirit part of him and it was in the area of spirit. And it was in this area that Adam fellowshipped with God - he had communion with Him. Hebrews 4:12 
"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit,..." 
I'll call the soul the mind, will, and emotions, the personality. And the spirit is the core of our very being wherein we as believers have fellowship with God. Now the moment Adam sinned, and showed his disobedience, this personality, this mind, will, and emotion became immediately a sin nature. At the same instance, what happened to this spirit and God relationship? What happened to the spirit in Adam? It died. So Adam, after the fall is nothing more and nothing less than the body with it's five senses, temporary, and it's going to die. And we know that Adam lived a long time but he died. That old sin nature which made up his personality, had no relationship with God, because it was broken the same as any unbeliever today. That spirit of Adam died like a dead battery. Christ has now died, He has now fulfilled all the demands of God on sinful men in the person of Christ on the Cross. Sons of Adam! So if we're dealing with invisible, then we are dealing with the spirit realm, and not the physical. 
Forever. That soul is going to live somewhere forever because again we're dealing in the spirit. Everyone of us now as Sons of Adam are born with the body in which is dwelling this personality that's sin bent, anti-God. Well let me tell you what the Scripture calls it, other than what we just saw in the Book of Romans Chapter 3. Let's skip forward to Romans Chapter 8. Romans 8:5 
"For they that are after the flesh (the word `flesh' here refers to being controlled by old Adam. Now verse 6: 
Romans 8:6 
"For to be carnally (or fleshly) minded is death (spiritual death, that's the end result, and death in that regard is simply separation from God. Not just for this life, but forever); but to be spiritually minded is life and peace." 
Romans 8:7 
"Because the carnal mind (this carnal mind that is still in old Adam. is enmity against God (good people like to say, "That's not me." I don't care how good, God sees their mind as His enemy. We were enemies of God even though most of us I'll bet were living pretty good lives. You're in Romans so come back to Chapter 6. 
Romans 6:5,6a 
Romans 6:6 
"Knowing this that our old man (who's that? Old Adam! The fleshly body here in the circles, and that mind, will, and emotion that is still sin-bent, that's old Adam.) It puts to death. John 12:23,24 
We are sinners, we are nothing but law-breakers, because of our condition in Adam, so then the Holy Spirit, oh bless the work of the Holy Spirit! God somehow recharges us right here the moment we believe. He recharges our spirit. Because even if God does consider old Adam as crucified, and we know he does, God reckons him as dead.

OLD ADAM CRUCIFIED - ROMANS 3:19-22 
Let me show you a verse in Romans Chapter 11, and this is repeated several times throughout Paul's writings. Romans 11:13 
Now let's read this verse carefully. 
Ephesians 3:1 
you Gentiles." Verse 2: 
Ephesians 3:2 
"If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:" 
So many people read this verse but don't see what it has to do with them. Ephesians 3:3 
"How that by revelation he (the ascended risen Lord) made known unto me (Paul) the mystery (now what does the word revelation mean? Ephesians 3:4-6 
"Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ (now look at verse 5). Ephesians 3:9 
"And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery (or secret), which from the beginning of the world (Adam) hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ." 
What did Paul mean? Now let's come back to Romans Chapter 3. Romans 3:22 
"Even the righteousness of God which is (appropriated) by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:" 
Between Jew and Gentiles. Hebrews 11:6 
"Without faith it is impossible to please him (God)," 
The other thing that the good works people do is absolutely shun the Blood. Romans 3:22b 
Let's see how that applied to Adam in Genesis Chapter 3. Genesis 3:20 
"And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living." 
Eve was inside of Adam at that time. I know people don't like that concept, but that's what the Scriptures teach. Eve was in Adam! And after Adam had named all the animals, he must have been lonely, and God knew he was. 
Genesis 2:18 
Now sometime later we come to the place where Adam calls the woman Eve. Back there before they ate of the tree, what did God tell them? 
Genesis 2:17 
Now God told us that after we ate of the tree we are going to die. Taking God at His Word! Evidently God had told Adam that in spite of their awful dilemma, he and his wife Eve are going to be the propagators of a whole human race. Genesis 3:20 
"And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living." 
Well I thought that Adam thought Eve was going to die. God must have told him that they were going to have children. Now if God told Adam that he was going to have children, and he responds by calling her the mother of all living, then what was that? "Faith." He took God at His Word. Now let's look at this next verse: Remember the second imperative was "without the shedding of blood." In Genesis 3, and verse 21 what happened? So here we have then the faith of Adam when he called his wife's name Eve, he had fulfilled that requirement of believing God. The second requirement finds God providing the sacrificial animals. And remember it's God who is providing them. Genesis 3:21 
"Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins (what did God do with these coats of skins? Covered their nakedness - their physical needs. Now finish the verse, and the last three words are most important), and clothed them." 
Remember in verse 22 of Romans 3 that it was God's righteousness that was imputed unto everyone that believeth. An imputed righteousness, it was an imputed covering. So because Adam had the ability to believe what God said, the blood has now been shed from the sacrificial animals. He not only covers their physical bodies, but He clothes them with a Spiritual garment that now hid old Adam, and he now has the imputed righteousness of the righteousness of God. The imputed righteousness of God. 
Isaiah 61:10 
"I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God (why is Isaiah filled with joy?); for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness," 
You see the whole purpose of God giving us this Book is to bring us to the point of Salvation. Every human being has to reach that point if they're going to escape God's wrath. You know I've had people ask in my classes more than once, "How can God Who is a God of love and mercy possibly consign people someday to that awful Lake of Fire? Faith plus nothing! Reference Romans 1:16, I Corinthians 15:1-4, Romans 10:9-10 and also I Thessalonians 4:14. Isaiah 61:10 again: 
Isaiah 61:10 
Now back to Romans Chapter 3. So this great covering of the garments of Salvation is imputed, and that's the word Paul will use throughout this whole Book of Romans. Oh, occasionally we will fall, we're going to trip, but God is just like a patient young mother. Now I'm talking about people who are genuinely concerned about dealing with God on His premise. People around us will notice that we are different, and all this takes place by the power of God.

Remember in the last lesson we were saying the Law does nothing but condemn a person. The Law can do nothing that helps us get to heaven. Those two absolutes are in the Book of Hebrews. 
Hebrews 11:6 
"But without faith it is impossible to please him (God):..." Without faith you cannot please God, and you can get nowhere with God without the shedding of Blood, which of course now goes back to the Cross. Now quickly review Romans 3 verse 20 in order to go into verse 21: 
Romans 3:20,21 
Turn to the Book of Ephesians. I'm so thankful so many of you are writing and calling and telling me that for the first time you are understanding your Bible, and that finally you are understanding the difference between Law and Grace, and the difference between Peter and Paul. God dealing with Israel through Peter (Gal. 2:7-9) and God dealing with the Gentiles through Paul. You have to get that straight if you're going to understand what God is trying to say. Remember, the same Apostle that wrote the Book of Romans, writes now to the Ephesians. 
Ephesians 2:11,12 
"Wherefore remember (and understand), that ye being in time past Gentiles (not Jews) in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision (Jews) in the flesh made by hands." "That at that time..." What time? While God was dealing with the Jew under Law. Those 2000 years from Abraham until the Apostle Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles (Rom. 11:13), comes on the scene. This is what Paul is looking back at and he says, "That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:" 
Remember everything that God was doing for the Jew didn't apply to the Gentiles because we weren't a citizen of Israel (Matthew 10:5). The Book says it, I'm not! Gentiles have never had any part of the Covenant promises, nor did they have God in the world as verse 12 says. Then beginning with Abraham, God made the promise, "You are going to have a nation of people that are going to be the only people on earth who have a knowledge of the one true God." All we saw in those ancient cities were temples to the gods and goddesses. The ancient world was steeped in that kind of idolatry and paganism, with no knowledge of the one true God, and that is what the Apostle Paul is reminding us. Ephesians 3:13 
God isn't saying he's only dealing with the Jew, but now he's saying based on the finished work of the Cross that God is now dealing with us Gentiles)in Christ Jesus ye (Gentiles) who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ." I've told you without faith you can't please God, and without the shedding of Blood there can be no remission of sin.We see that in this verse. 
Faith and the shed Blood; you can't escape them. Romans 3:21a 
This side of the Cross. Many pastors refuse to get into Paul's doctrines where the meat is. All of Paul's writings are Holy Spirit breathed, and you have to get into these writings of Paul because in the Four Gospels the Cross hasn't been accomplished yet. Why can't people realize that? Christ wasn't preaching death, burial, and Resurrection during His earthly ministry. Luke 18:31-34 
See, they don't want to fool with Paul's writings. Romans 3:21 
"But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;" 
That's the Old Testament, absolutely. When I stress the Apostle Paul, you will never hear me say to ignore the Four Gospels, or the Old Testament. Take the whole Book from cover to cover. "For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building. According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation,..." 
If Paul didn't lay the foundation, then Paul's a liar, and if Paul is a liar then his writings have no business in this Book. Paul comes in and starts with a brand new foundation which is Jesus Christ crucified, buried and risen again! See the difference? 
"For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ." 
I guess that's not right! Prophecy has secured it's accuracy. 
"According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation,..." Jesus Christ is the only Foundation for what we believe. 
"Even the righteousness of God (man's righteousness is never brought in here. That because Christ died, shed His Blood, and was able to scream in His final words from that horrible cross, "It is finished!" "I've also got to do this or that," they say, but remember that's not what The Book says, The Book says it's finished. Thank you Lord I believe it! 
Until we let God get rid of old Adam we are going to be law-breakers, because it's our nature.

So God comes to that conclusion here in Romans 3 that this is the problem, and the only remedy is the one God Himself has provided. We have no fear of God so that's the picture of the unbeliever that God sees. 
Romans 3:19 
God gave them the Law, printed on the tables of stone and it was as plain as day. And the Jew had the whole system of what we call law, the religious, the ritual, the sacrifices, the priesthood, the civil law, and it then all comprised what we call the Law. But at the heart of the Law are the Ten Commandments. Are we talking about the Ten Commandments or are we talking about the whole system of law? In other words if a Jew misused his neighbor, the civil law stipulated how he had to make things right. Let's look at the verse again: 
Romans 3:19 
"Now we know that what things soever the law saith (thou shalt and thou shalt not), it saith to them who are under the law (the whole system of law. Everybody! Regardless of a person's status he's under that demand of the Law. Most people think that if they can just keep the Law then they become righteous, but that verse says they become guilty before God. Romans 3:20 
"Therefore (since the Mosaic Ten Commandments makes everyone guilty, therefore) by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight (now look at this last statement): for by the law is the knowledge of sin. 
You can put in its place, I think, without exception "old Adam" throughout the Book of Romans (of course if it doesn't fit somewhere then back away from it). The old sin nature that each of us are born with. Now let's read it that way, substituting the word `sin' with old Adam. 
Romans 3:20 
"Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of old Adam." 
We are not sinners because we break the Law. The problem is we have something within us that wants to constantly break the Law, and then of course when we break the law we are guilty. 
You are a sinner because you are a child of Adam, and being a child of Adam everything that God says to do, then old Adam says to do the opposite. 
Take an individual who has a beautiful horse, well trained and groomed. Alright, that beautiful steed I'm telling you about is a picture of old Adam. What causes old Adam to suddenly lose his poise, suddenly realize that all that pent up power for wickedness came to the fore front? The Law! Then one day the Law comes and it just smashes old Adam, and he erupts. Now let me take you to Romans Chapter 7. Start with verse 9. Romans 7:9a 
"For I was alive without the law once:..." 
The Law had already been in force for 1500 years before Saul came along. So he says I was alive without the Law. Let's look at the verse again. 
Romans 7:9 
"For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died." 
That old Adam. Old Adam has to die, and that's the theme of this Book of Romans, to deal with that old sin nature that is constantly making man rebel against the very tenets of God. There is no way you can deal with old Adam in the flesh, because just like the gentlemen with the beautiful horse. We have to first and foremost deal with this old Adam, and remember he's in the area of the invisible. Now Romans Chapter 3, verse 19 again: 
Romans 3:19 
"Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law (Israel): that every mouth may be stopped,..." 
"Old Adam!" And so the Law is the only way that God can come to that kind of a person and say, "You're Guilty!" It's the same way with old Adam. Now verse 20, and you can't approach God on the merit of what you have done. Romans 3:20 
"Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin." The Apostle Paul tells us in verse 3 the following. 
Romans 4:3 
Romans 4:2 
"For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory: but not before God." 
You know what I've told people? It was only the work of a merciful God. Now let's look at verse 20 again in Chapter 3. 
Romans 3:20 
"Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin." 
The knowledge of sin or the knowledge of our old Adam. It's old Adam who is at the heart of the sin program. It's old Adam in the realm of the spirit that we have to deal with through the power and mercy and the Grace of God.

OLD ADAM CRUCIFIED - ROMANS 3:19-22
So God comes to that conclusion here in Romans 3 that this is the problem, and the only remedy is the one God Himself has provided. We have no fear of God so that's the picture of the unbeliever that God sees.
Romans 3:19
God gave them the Law, printed on the tables of stone and it was as plain as day. And the Jew had the whole system of what we call law, the religious, the ritual, the sacrifices, the priesthood, the civil law, and it then all comprised what we call the Law. But at the heart of the Law are the Ten Commandments. Are we talking about the Ten Commandments or are we talking about the whole system of law? In other words if a Jew misused his neighbor, the civil law stipulated how he had to make things right. Let's look at the verse again:

"Now we know that what things soever the law saith (thou shalt and thou shalt not), it saith to

THE VERDICT IS GUILTY - RELIGIOUS MAN - ROM. 3:1-23 
In the last lesson we studied about God's wrath to come. But maybe we should stop right here, and from here to Chapter 3, God is in so many words, building His case against mankind just like a prosecuting attorney. God is going to categorize them into three areas. Then we're going to come in the next series of verses to the moral man or woman, and then we will come to the religious individual. God will build His case against the immoral segment of humanity. Let's look at verse 24 once more: 
Romans 1:24 
The pagan temples of the old Greek and Roman gods were just glorified houses of prostitution in the name of religion. So it just follows that when you come from the idolatry of verse 23 you now come to the immorality of verse 24. It seems anything that degenerates society, people will buy. I remember people telling me that, even in the depression, people would have money for that. Let's go on to verse 25. Romans 1:25a 
"Who changed the truth of God into a lie,..." 
God put His stamp of approval upon the marriage relationship way back in the Garden of Eden. God said, "It's honorable in all." So in God's restraint, all these things are not only normal, but they're what God has given. But man has taken the God-given things and used them under the influence of the adversary, Satan. 
Romans 1:25,26 
"Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. So as a result of their original behavior of rejection, God now gives them up to something even worse. Romans 1:26b 
Remember that Satan started with the women in the Garden of Eden. Now in this portion of Scripture, God is talking about Israel here, His Covenant people. Jeremiah 44:15,16 
"Then all the men which knew that their wives had burned incense unto other gods (who was burning the incense? The women were!), and all the women that stood by, a great multitude, even all the people that dwelt in the land of Egypt in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying, `As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the LORD, we will not hearken unto thee.'" 
Jeremiah 44:17 
A female goddess. Rather than that which was heterosexual immorality up in verse 24, they go into the vile affections of the homosexual lifestyle. 
Romans 1:27 
"And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet." Come back to Genesis Chapter 19. This is the first time that the Scripture deals with what God calls an abomination. Genesis 19:1 
"AND there came two angels to Sodom at even;..." Now remember these two angels back in Chapter 18 were called men.

Now verse 4: 
Now back to Romans: Of course you know what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah. God destroyed it, and we will see here that the New Testament attests to it. Reading verse 27 again we find: 
Romans 1:27 
"And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet." Let's look for a moment at II Peter Chapter 2. II Peter 2:5,6 
"...making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;" 
We are never to forget that the reason God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah was because of its homosexual lifestyle. And the world is never to forget it. God is telling the world tonight, "Look what I've done to Sodom and Gomorrah, look at what I've done to those kind of people. II Peter 2:7 
I'm simply saying but by the Grace of God I could be where they are, but on the other hand, by the Grace of God, they could be out of that lifestyle and be where I am, and that's where God wants you. That's why Paul makes it so plain in Romans Chapters 5 and 6 that where sin abounded, God's Grace can be greater. Now back to Romans Chapter 1 and verse 28: Once they get into this lifestyle which begins with an idolatrous heart. They may not have to fall down and worship a Buddha or something like that, but they have some sort of an anti-God attitude, or something else that takes God's place. 
Romans 1:28 
"And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind (you and I look at some of these things and wonder how can people do this? Well, God has removed all restraints from them, that's why. They don't care what people think, or what God thinks, but it was a judicial act of God to give them over to a reprobate mind), to do those things which are not convenient;" 
Now reading on down, these are not pretty verses. Romans 1:29-32 
We have to hold back these forces of iniquities until God comes.

GOD'S WRATH - IMMORAL MAN - ROMANS 1:17-32 
Continuing in Romans Chapter 1. In verse 18 we see the other side of the coin and that is that God is also a God of wrath. 
I want you to understand that for the last 1900 + years God has not been pouring out wrath whatsoever. Because we're living in the Age of Grace, and even to the ungodly world, and to those steeped in wickedness, God is still dealing in Grace, and not in judgment. Even the flood as awful as it was, that was not the wrath of God. That was God Who was broken-hearted that everything that He had begun with Adam had so totally fallen apart, but it still wasn't His wrath. The flood was almost instantaneous destruction, and to God it was like starting over. 
Because God will be bringing down His wrath on mankind which is rejecting Christ. God's wrath is going to be poured out especially during the last 3 1/2 years of the Tribulation because the vast majority of Christ- rejecting people will be living at that time. Now verse 18: 
Romans 1:18 
"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness." 
Romans 1:19,20 
"Because that which may be know of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it (the truth) unto them (now how did God show it?). Most of you know that from the time of Abraham all the way up into the Book of Acts that God dealt primarily with the Nation of Israel. Ephesians 2:12 
"That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:" 
They were lost, but God stills holds them responsible because they could have known. Turn to the Book of Acts, Chapter 17. "For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions (their rituals of pagan worship), I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD, Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. God is speaking through the Apostle Paul that even these pagan Greeks with no exposure to Judaism, or any written Scripture, should have had a knowledge of the Creator God. The Scripture indicates that The Word of God was written in the stars once upon a time. I think Adam was able to comprehend it, and the pre-flood people understood that the very make-up of the constellations and the planets were to interpret the very Word of God. There's another verse in the Book of Titus. Titus 2:11 
"For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath (already) appeared to all men." 
Now granted, when Paul wrote, the Roman Empire comprised ninety percent of the then-known world. When Noah and his three sons and their wives came off the ark, they all had a knowledge of God. Remember all the revelation that God had given mankind, beginning with Adam. Deep in the heart of every human being, even in that Adamic nature, is the knowledge that there is a God. I've had people tell me they are atheists, but that's just an excuse. They're trying to convince themselves they are, but down deep within each atheist is the knowledge of God. So man has that knowledge that there is a Creator. Now verse 21: the reason they are without excuse is: 
Romans 1:21 
"Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations (Solomon said, "Vanity, vanity, all is vanity." Humanism! When they leave God out of their thinking, then it's empty), and their foolish heart was darkened." 
God did! As soon as God began dealing with Pharaoh through Moses and Aaron, when they confronted him, and said, "Let our people go," God was putting Pharaoh on the spot. Then God sent the first plague, and it made Pharaoh think, but that's as far as it went. So all God really does is put him on the spot. 
Now it's the same way with mankind as a whole, when we speak of man's heart being hardened, it isn't that God is responsible, but rather man does it to himself. But it's under the Sovereign volition of God, and this is why when it says that they became vain and their foolish heart was darkened, it became a response of God to their own choosing of their will. And remember, that everything that mankind does under God is based on that free will. We are all constantly facing choices. Let's go back to Psalms, Chapter 14, verse 1. So read this verse with those two words left out), no, God..." 
The foolish man is a man destitute of faith, and so he says, "No." Not that there is no God, but he says "no" to what God has said. God said, "Bring me a blood sacrifice, and I'll accept you." "No, God, I'm not going to bring a blood sacrifice, I'm going to bring what I have grown." "No, God." "No, God, I'm not interested." God has said it, but what does man say?

ROMANS 1:16 
All the things that God did instantaneously the moment we believed. Remember Hebrews Chapter 11 says: 
Now let's come to the word "Translated." Let's turn to Colossians Chapter 1. Here we find Paul praying on behalf of the Colossi believers: 
Colossians 1:12,13 
"Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet (or prepared us) to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who (speaking of God the Father) hath (past tense)delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son;" 
The King was in their midst, and where The King is the Kingdom was sure to come. But Israel rejected The King and the Kingdom, and they crucified Him. We will be ruling and reigning with Christ over that Kingdom of which we are now members by virtue of our salvation experience. Looking at verse 13 again: 
"Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness,..." 
To reinforce that, let's go for a moment to the Book of Philippians. 
Philippians 3:20 
I was reminded again recently that I hadn't taught the Rapture since Book 11. We know that's the next event on God's calendar. Romans 8:14,15 
"For as many are led by the Spirit of God, they are (already) the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father." 
The word `adoption' at the time of Paul, meant that they would take a child who had been tutored by tutors under school masters, and at an appointed age they would make him a full heir with the father. We have been placed as the full child, or joint heir. What a responsibility! That's a responsibility just like that kid. Remember, the phrase we are studying has the word `glorified.' I got sided tracked with the word `adoption.' 
Romans 8:16,17 
"The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are (already) the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together." 
The moment we became a child of God, the moment we believed, then God declared us a full son of the Father. A joint-heir with Christ. Ephesians 1:19-23 
The Body of Christ of which you and I are members is the complement of Christ. Now what's the complement? Adam and Eve haven't sinned yet. Genesis 2:16-20 
"And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, `Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.' And the LORD God said, `It is not good that the man should be alone: I will make him an help meet for him.' And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. Complement! Eve. Here comes all these pairs of beasts, and Adam named them. This, too, is wonders of wonders, miracles of miracles that even the Lord Jesus the crowning Creator God of the universe, has such a love for His Blood-bought Church, His Body, that the Scripture says He doesn't even consider Himself complete until He has us in His presence. Ephesians 1:22,23 
"And (God) hath put all things under his (Christ's) feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fulness (the complement) of him that filleth all in all." 
By faith! The Book says it. I Corinthians 12:12 
"For as the body (the human body) is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ." 
I Corinthians 12:13 
"For by one Spirit (The Holy Spirit) are we all (every believer) baptized into one body (that Church universal, that Body that includes the believers from whatever corner of the globe they may be), whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free: and have been all made to drink into one Spirit." 
That by the invisible act of the Holy Spirit, He placed every believer the moment they believed, the moment they're saved, into this Body of Christ, which will one day be His Bride. We can't determine who's saved and who's lost. That's an area that only God can look into. But in the Body of Christ there are no unbelievers. No unsaved person is ever baptized by the Holy Spirit into the Body of Christ. God has said it, we believe it, and we rest on it. 
Let's stay in I Corinthians and turn to Chapter 3. I Corinthians 3:16 
"Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?"

"The next item that God did on our behalf the moment we believed, is that God reckoned us as crucified with Christ." So as we study these words associated with salvation, remember these are acts of God, no man can touch them. So you and I as believers have been in the mind of God, put to death. So if God's law has determined that every human being is a sinner because we are sons of Adam, then it means that every human being has to die. Well, God has given us a tremendous loophole to His first law, "The soul that sinneth shall surely die." And that loophole was that He died in our place, but we still have to experience the same death that He experienced in the Person of Christ. Now Romans Chapter 6: 
Many people don't know what the Scripture is talking about when it calls us the old man. Did you teach them to lie? No! That old Adamic nature. Did you teach them? The old nature. And so we are all born with that old Adamic nature, which sins before we are old enough to know what's what. It has to die. God has demanded it. Reading verse 6 again: 
Romans 6:6 
"Knowing this, that our old man is crucified (it's put to death) with him (Christ), that the body of sin (the controlling factor of old Adam) might be destroyed (or put out of commission, it has to have that power over us totally broken. Only the power of God can break the control of our old Adamic nature. The only way we can be delivered is that Adam has to die), that henceforth we should not serve sin." God in a substitutionary manner died my death, He died your death in your place. Paul makes that plain in Galatians Chapter 2. 
"I am crucified with Christ (do you see that? Because old Adam has been put to death, he's crucified, his power over our daily behavior has been broken, and he's dead. Galatians 2:20 
"I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh (day by day, as we endure the things of this world) I live by the faith (or faithfulness) of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me." 
So that when Christ hung on that Cross, and died, who else did God see in Christ? Every believer! I know that's the way God looks at it! Now let's turn to the Book of Ephesians Chapter 2. Ephesians 2:1 
Ephesians 2:5 
"Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ (by grace ye are saved;)" 
The unmerited favor of God accomplished all these things. Ephesians 2:6 
God already sees us as together with Him in the heavenlies. Then verses 8 and 9 are favorites of many believers. 
Ephesians 2:8,9 
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." 
Amazing Grace! Turn to II Corinthians Chapter 5. II Corinthians 5:14,15 
"For the love love of Christ constraineth us (it drives us on); because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again." The Gospel plain as day. 
II Corinthians 5:16 
Paul is referring to Christ's earthly ministry. So Paul says he doesn't even look back at Christ's earthly ministry. Paul and Christ were about the same age. II Corinthians 5:17 
"Therefore (because of His work of the Cross) if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature (creation): old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." 
In other words, when old Adam dies, God imparts to us a new divine nature. And that new nature, beloved, cannot sin, because it's divine. It is placed there by an act of God, but we still have the old flesh, the old Adam that is still capable of tripping us up, but so far as the new nature is concerned, "No it can't sin." Verse 18: 
II Corinthians 5:18 
"And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;" 
To be reconciled. II corinthians 5:19 
"To wit (that is to say), that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation." 
I maintain that when Christ died, He paid the sin debt for every human being that ever lived. No one need wake up in eternal doom, and say, "Well, God didn't supply my needs." A man had committed a murder, and was convicted and sentenced to death. Now reading verse 19 again: 
In Chapter 3 we find Paul rehashing the activity of Israel when they rejected the Land of Promise at Kadesh Barnea. God had promised He would send hornets ahead of them to drive out the Canaanites. Hebrews 3:15-19

In Acts Chapter 3, we have Peter and John healing the lame man by using the name of Jesus in verse 6. God holding back the Egyptian army... opening the Red Sea and many other miracles. Yet it seemingly didn't sink in what a great God they were under. Now verse 12: 
There is no mention of Gentiles, there is no mention of anything except the Nation of Israel. And Peter says), Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? Is that Gentile language? "The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob (did those names mean anything to Romans? By the Gentiles. But here, Peter is laying the blame on Israel. When I emphasize that Peter is pointing the finger at Israel, I'm not taking away the Gentiles part in it all. 
For Martin Luther said it was doing God a favor to kill a Jew, or burn down his business. Verse 13 again: 
"The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up. Paul never points the finger at Jew or Gentile and says you killed The Christ. Galatians 1:4 
Ephesians 5:25 
Peter doesn't say that. Why? These things were still hidden in the mind of God, and consequently, Peter couldn't go any further than what God had revealed. Biblical faith is taking God at His word. If faith is taking God at His word, what does God have to do before we can believe what He says? God has to say it. Because God has not said a word yet, that they are not under Law, but Grace. You can't assume what God is going to do or say. We have to wait until He's spoken it, then believe it like Deuteronomy 29:29 said, "The secret things belong unto the Lord our God:..." Romans 10:17 
"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." 
The Word of God isn't some mish-mash floating around in the ethereal. The Word of God is something that The Almighty God has spoken. God always does things for a purpose. In Acts Chapter 3 God hasn't said a word yet about shutting down the Temple, that they are no longer under Law, but under a new manifestation of God's Grace. "The Body of Christ" There's not a word in here of Church structure or a word concerning the Gospel based on Christ's death, burial, and Resurrection. Remember Peters confession in Matthew 16. 
Matthew 16:13-16 
"...Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? John 11:25-27 
Philip had explained about Jesus to this fellow. 
"Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. Now back to Acts Chapter 3, verse 15. Peter says: 
Acts 3:16 
"And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong," 
What is Peter neglecting to mention here? Peter is only reminding these Israelites Who Jesus really was. Now verse 17: 
Acts 3:17 
If someone killed a person the penalty was death. What was Christ pleading? Their ignorance. 
I call it "God's loophole" for the Nation of Israel. Because, had they known Who they were killing, God would have had to destroy them. Not only concerning Israel but even Rome, the Gentiles. 
Which is a secret that has been revealed to him), even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:" I'm sure that he is speaking of himself. 
Ignorance. Otherwise God would have zapped the whole human race - Jew and Gentile alike. So Peter claims that same thing. Ignorance. 
Christ had to die, because prophecy had foretold it. 
"Whom the heaven must receive until (a time word) the times of restitution (tribulation) of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began." 
So Peter is in full agreement with the Old Testament. That yes, Christ had gone back to the Father's right hand. Now if you remember in the closing remarks of the Gospel of John, Jesus indicated that Peter would suffer a very ignominious death. But I'm sure at this point in time Peter has totally forgotten about that. He is totally enraptured with the idea, that if he could just see Israel repent and yet believe Who Jesus was, then their Messiah would return and they could yet have the Kingdom. The Twelve could then take their seat ruling the Twelve Tribes of Israel as Jesus had promised. Matthew 19:27 
Matthew 19:28 
Oh if Israel would just repent and be converted and recognize that the One they killed was their Messiah. 
Then Peter and the eleven knew when that was fulfilled then they could take the Gospel of their God of Abraham to the Gentile world, but not until. Zechariah 8:20-23 
Yea, many people and strong nations shall come to seek the LORD of hosts (where) in Jerusalem, and to pray before the LORD.'" The `you' here is believing Israel. A redeemed Israel. A regenerated and repentant Israel.

There is no mention of Gentiles, there is no mention of anything except the Nation of Israel. And Peter says), Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? Is that Gentile language? "The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob (did those names mean anything to Romans? By the Gentiles. But here, Peter is laying the blame on Israel. When I emphasize that Peter is pointing the finger at Israel, I'm not taking away the Gentiles part in it all.
For Martin Luther said it was doing God a favor to kill a Jew, or burn down his business. Verse 13 again:

ACTS CHAPTER 3, 4, & 5 
Let's go to Acts Chapter 3 for our study. Where do Peter and John go? To the Temple. No one has told them to stop Temple worship. "NOW Peter and John went up together into the Temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour." 
Peter and John. Now turn for a moment to Chapter 4 verse 22: 
Acts 4:22 
Who must have walked by this man time and time again in those 3 years of His earthy ministry? Christ. Jesus was leaving all that for this time. That's the beauty of a Sovereign God, and so Jesus never healed him, knowing that the time would come when Peter and John would pass him by, and this would precipitate a whole group of events. So this forty-year-old man was carried and laid at the gate which is called Beautiful and begged. 
"Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the Temple asked an alms. And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee (now watch this): In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk." 
What should Peter have put in there? Peter doesn't even mention it, he only refers again to Who Jesus was, The Messiah, Israel's promised King, and Saviour. 
Acts 3:7 
Now verse 12: 
Acts 3:12 
"And when Peter saw it (the amazement of the people), he answered unto the people, `Ye men of Israel (He was talking only to Jews), why marvel ye at this? Remember most Jews don't accept the New Testament. Look carefully at verse 13: 
Acts 3:13 
"The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob (those three names are for the Jews and the beginning of their Nation. And it was to them that Israel's Covenant promises were repeated almost word for word. Peter says you caused Him to be crucified. Now verse 14: 
No), whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses." What does Peter now set up for these people to believe His name. 
The name implied that Jesus was The Christ, He was The Messiah, He was the promised One according to the Covenant. Peter is hoping that Israel would wake up and realize that the One they killed was the promised Messiah. 
Acts 3:17 
"And now, brethren (Peter could never address Gentiles as brethren. Many years ago I had a retired pastor at one of my classes ask me, "Why did Peter give Israel this option, that they had killed their Messiah in ignorance? Israel, had she rejected Him, knowing Who He was, God would have had to put them to death by completely destroying them. Paul only writes to believers. I Corinthians 2:7,8 
"But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery (a secret), even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:" God knew that this apostle to the Gentile world would become a writer of Scripture. Now verse 8: 
Come back to Acts Chapter 3, and Peter is using this as an escape route for the Nation of Israel. 
God's not through with the Nation, His mercy will come back them. Israel should have known, Israel could have known, but they didn't know. You can't stop God. Verse 20 is a continuation of that same thought. 
"And he (God) shall send Jesus Christ which before was preached unto you:" 
Even though Peter is expecting The Lord's immediate return to the Nation of Israel if they would repent, he also recognizes that they are going to go through seven years of restitution. That after the Tribulation, Christ would return. But it was hinging on Israel's repentance. Peter tells us that ALL must repent and believe on His name. At the present time we are seeing God bring the Jews back to the land. We know that God, after the final rejection, turns to the Gentiles through the Apostle Paul with Salvation by Grace with no connection to Israel's Law. We call it the Church Age. Calling out a people for His name, the Body of Christ. 
All Peter knows is that Israel is still under the Abrahamic Covenant, and if Israel would believe they could have The King and Kingdom as promised in Psalms Chapter 2. But all of Israel had to accept the fact that Jesus was their Messiah. Always remember that the first part of Acts is nothing but Peter and the Nation of Israel. Then in Chapter 10, Peter goes to the house of Cornelius a Gentile, and that is all new. Israel is going off the scene, and Gentiles are coming into God's favor under Grace. Now verse 22. Peter is still sticking to the Old Testament prophets and Covenant programs. 
"For Moses truly said unto the fathers, `A prophet shall the Lord of your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me (Christ was a Jew); him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. "Ye are the children of the prophets and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham,..."
