Hebrews 1:1-10 
It’s amazing how simple the Word of God really is. Hebrews 1:2a 
So we’re well acquainted to what it is to be an heir, but you see the Triune God again, the Father, Son, and the Spirit, have in unison made the Son the Heir of everything. Verse 5: 
Philippians 2:5 
"Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6. Who, being in the form of God,…" Remember what the Scripture says in John 1:1? 
John 1:1 
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." So this same Jesus, the Word in John 1:2, the Christ: 
Philippians 2:6-7 
Now verse 8: 
Philippians 2:8 
"And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, (Rome didn’t humble Him, the Jewish leaders didn’t humble Him, but rather He humbled Himself,) and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross." 
Well was that in agreement in the mind of Christ? 9. Wherefore (because of His total obedience to the plan of the Triune God,) God also hath highly exalted him,…" God Himself has exalted Him. 
Philippians 2:9b 
Philippians 2:10a 
"That at the name of Jesus every knee…" Philippians 2:10-11 
11. And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." 
We as believers are also called heirs, and we’ll find that in Romans chapter 8. Romans 8:16-17a 
"The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: (you don’t have to wonder if you are one of God’s children if you have believed Paul’s Gospel in your heart for Salvation) 17. And if children, then heirs; (just like in an earthly family. So we’re) heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ;…" 
Now let’s come back to Hebrews again to chapter 1. So God: 
Hebrews 1:2 
"Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, (we covered the last part of the verse in our first program) whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;" Our Lord Jesus Christ created everything! Now let’s move on into verse 3. Hebrews 1:3a 
"Who (speaking of Son) being the brightness of his glory,…" 
Whose glory? The Godhead. The whole Triune God! Here is just that little window in Matthew chapter 17. 
Matthew 17:1-2 
Now coming back to Hebrews chapter 1. Hebrews 1:3a 
Now I think sometimes people get the wrong idea from Genesis where it says, "God created man in His image." Now you want to remember at the time of the creation, God had never appeared in human form so far as we know from Scripture. In His mind, will, and emotion." That’s where Adam was in God’s image. 
It’s invisible. God the Spirit also has mind, will and emotions. And we know God the Son has mind, will, and emotions. So man was literally created an invisible creation, patterned after the invisible Spirit God. But in order for man to function in creation, we know God put the invisible man into a visible body. 
"Matter, time, and space!" So God took this invisible part of us and placed it in a body. Hebrews 1:3a 
"(The Son) Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power,…" 
Everything in the universe is held together by the power of the Word of Christ! Now reading on in verse 3. Hebrews 1:3b 
On the cross, and in resurrection power. Hebrews 1:5 
"For unto which of the angels said he (God) at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee?" That’s never been spoken to anybody but the Son. We have to realize and understand that all the power of the Godhead was released when God raised Christ from the dead. And let’s just begin at verse 7. 
Psalm 2:7 
"I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee." Let’s go to Acts, chapter 13, and that’s where we have to let Scripture speak. God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee." Now here is where we get the Scriptural definition of the only begotten Son of God. 
Acts 13:34 
The only begotten Son was when He was raised from the dead. 
Romans 1:3-4 
"Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; (here it comes in verse 4). And declared to be the Son of God with power according to the spirit of holiness, (and how was that power executed?) by the resurrection from the dead:" 
Always remember when Paul speaks of the power of God unto Salvation, what is he referring to? The power of His resurrection! Romans 10:9 
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Titus 2:13 Declares Jesus Christ as God 
Now verse 28. 
Philippians 1:28a 
It’s those who oppose the believers. So Paul makes it so plain to these Philippians that when the pressures from the outside world, whether it was the Judaisers or the Pagans or the Romans 
Also remember at the time of Paul, Emperor worship had almost superseded the god and goddesses of mythology. Now verse 29. 
Philippians 1:29 
Most of the time Christians suffered for their faith, most of the time they were driven from place to place because they didn’t conform. Now verse 30. 
Philippians 1:30 
Paul was convinced as a Roman citizen he would get a fair shake in the Roman courts. Philippians 2:1-2a 
"If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels (inner-most part,) and mercies, 2. Fulfil ye my joy,..." 
The fact that Paul was penetrating the higher echelons of the Roman empire. He was actually seeing these hardened Roman soldiers come to a knowledge of the saving Grace of Jesus Christ. Philippians 2:2-3a 
"Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be like-minded, (as joyful as I am) having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Now again, compare the life of the average Philippian believer in their mundane, everyday Christian experience, compared to where Paul was chained to a Roman soldier, with his life on the line. How many Churches bicker, bicker, bicker. Iris worked in the nursing profession, and worked with people from every background you can imagine. Now completing verse 3. 
Philippians 2:3 
Philippians 2:4 
Paul isn’t saying, Look at your neighbors stuff and wish you had it. A verse comes to mind in I Corinthians chapter 13, the great love chapter. "Charity (love) suffereth (endureth) long, and is kind; charity (love) envieth not; charity, (love) vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5. (love) Doth not behave itself unseemly, (or unnaturally, love) seeketh not her own, (love) is not easily provoked, (love) thinketh no evil;" 
Now back to Philippians. So that’s exactly what Paul has on his mind in verse 4 and the Holy Spirit inspiring it. Looking at the verse again. 
Philippians 2:4 
Philippians 2:5 
"Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:" 
"Have the mind of Christ! Well there’s only one way, and that is to be saturated with the Word, literally saturated. 
So to make a long story short the Lord opened the old boy’s heart and he had just literally begun to saturate himself with the Word. 
God has given us the wherewithal to study, and to become skilled in the use of the Scriptures. No, if you get into the Word, the Holy Spirit will begin to open your understanding. So looking at the verse again. 
Philippians 2:5 
"Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:" 
Romans 12:1a 
Because of everything he had written in these previous chapters, especially the first 8 chapters. Remember chapters 9, 10, and 11 are parenthetical. Romans 12:1 
"I beseech you therefore brethren by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, (not sinless perfection, or that you sprout a halo, but holy simply means that you’ve been set apart, you’re different, you belong to God, you’re no longer a part of the world. So this is what we are to be, holy,) acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service." 
See God isn’t unreasonable. God’s knows we’re made of dust. Romans 12:2a 
The mind is the core of everything. It’s the same way spiritually then, that if our mind is lined up with the things of God, and according to the teachings and exhortations of the Holy Spirit then our mind is going to think as God wants us to think. So if our mind is on the world’s garbage then that’s the way we’re going to think. If on the other hand the mind has been saturated with the Word of God, then that’s what we’re going to think, and it’s going to start showing. 
Romans 12:2b 
"...that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." 
We get letters that ask, "How can I know the will of God?" Let’s read verse 5 again and then verse 6 which we’ll pick up in our next lesson. 
Philippians 2:5-6 
"Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: (now I’ll go on into the next verse although we won’t have time to comment on it. Speaking of the Lord Jesus Christ) 6. My, the Scriptures declares that He was God. I know there’s one particular group that their main hang up is that they just can’t believe that Jesus Christ was God. Well it’s hard to deal with someone like that, but I guess my favorite Scripture to prove to them that Jesus Christ is God is found in Titus chapter 2. 
"Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ."

Philippians 1:1-27 - Part 2 
Now for those of you who missed the first half hour or two, you want to remember that Paul is writing from a Roman prison just outside the praetorian guard in Rome right next door to the palace of Nero. Also remember that Nero was probably the most wicked world leader that ever lived. First off he had his wife Octavia killed so that he could marry Poppaea, a proselyte of Judaism, who of course encouraged all the activity against the apostle Paul because you know how the Jewish people felt about Paul’s apostleship. So you want to remember for Paul to make inroads into a government headed up by a man like that, no wonder he was thrilled. Paul was experiencing the salvation of these Romans all the way into the very elite part of the Roman government. Now continuing on in chapter 1. 
Remember in our last lesson his closing remarks were, "Some people were actually promoting his Gospel in order to hopefully bring even more harm to him, but it doesn’t matter as long as people heard the Gospel of the Grace of God." Let’s look at verse 16 again. 
Philippians 1:16-17a 
Philippians 1:17 
When Paul would get his time in court. You want to remember that’s the only reason that this man is in prison. Paul hadn’t broken any law, or had been trying to overthrow Rome. Paul hadn’t been using any bad remarks about Nero or even the gods and goddess of mythology, but rather all Paul had been doing was preaching the Gospel that saves you, Christ crucified, and risen again. Philippians 1:18 
Now verse 19. 
Philippians 1:19 
Does Paul think that all this activity is going to bring about his own salvation? You know that Paul knew that many years before. Paul had his salvation, it was secure by his faith, but what he’s talking about is the out working of it all. Let’s read it again. 
Philippians 1:19 
"For I know that this shall turn to my salvation (freedom) through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ." 
Not his spiritual salvation, but his actually being set free from prison. Now some people think he was set free. Now don’t ever sell the prayers of the saints short. Now verse 20. 
Philippians 1:20 
That reminds me of another verse and I imagine many of you also thought of this verse as we were reading verse 20. Here Paul is writing several years before he wrote Philippians. 
Romans 1:16 
of the gospel of Christ: for it (the Gospel) is the power of God unto salvation (for how many?) to every one that believeth;..." 
There’s no condition of being baptized in water or anything else to becoming a believer of the Body of Christ. See, if God had put a price on salvation then people would have just flocked to it, because man always wants to do something himself. So Paul was not ashamed of that Gospel that he preached so freely. Philippians 1:20b 
How anxious he was to give his life for the sake of the Gospel., and always remember that Grace is sufficient. If something like that ever comes our way, and I hope it doesn’t, then God’s Grace will overwhelm us also like it did Paul. Philippians 1:21 
"For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." 
I don’t want to see death, in fact I hate death. No, I don’t like death, but this man was so ready to die because it is to gain Christ. Let’s look at the flip side in verse 22. 
Philippians 1:22-24 
(of course it would be better than a Roman prison) 24. Philippians 1:24 
Hopefully Paul would be released and once again make the circle of visiting all the Churches that he had established. What’s the verse I’m going to? Some said "No, we’re going to stay with Paul." II Corinthians 11:22-23a 
(Paul’s humbling himself) I said that Peter had no ministry among the Gentiles. Look what Paul says. 
II Corinthians 11:23 
"Are they ministers of Christ? I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes (the 40 lashes) above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft." 
Remember at Philippi, he was sick nigh unto death, in Ephesus he seemingly escaped with his life as he said, "I escaped the beast in Ephesus." "...in death oft. 24. Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one. In journeying often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; 27. Philippians 1:24 
To keep them ready for persecution or death, if and when it should come. Now verse 25. 
Philippians 1:25 
Tortured them, threw them in prison. So over and over Paul would say, "Rejoice, rejoice, rejoice." Now verse 26. 
Philippians 1:26 
So what’s Paul looking forward to? Getting out of prison. Now verse 27. 
Philippians 1:27 
All Paul was concerned about, is their faith that which would prepare them for eternity. Oh yeah I’ll be spiritual if it’ll give me material blessings.

Philippians 1:1-27 
Remember we were talking about Paul’s term "the day of Christ, or the day of the Lord Jesus Christ" which is a reference to the end of the Church Age in what we call the Rapture. And only Paul was given this term to use. 
Now again, teaching the line that I teach, I have to constantly remind people that when only Paul speaks of something, then mark it down that it is only for the Church, the Body of Christ. No other portion of Scripture refers to "the day of Christ." Now the verse I wanted to read in our closing moments was Philippians chapter 2:16 
Philippians 2:16 
Philippians 1:7-9 
8. For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels (or the innermost being) of Jesus Christ 9. Well Paul is constantly praying that believers would gain knowledge. We want people to learn to study, and this is Paul’s constant prayer. Well anyway this is for every believer. 
Ephesians 1:16-17 
That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:" 
You know people probably sometimes wonder, "Why did the apostle Paul have such an allegiance to Jesus Christ?" Philippians 1:10 
Philippians 1:10 
Well what’s the difference? Well maybe? See, the Philippians understood that. They understood that they were under the Grace of God. So many people try to bring what was under Law and put it over in Paul’s teaching. They try to hook something to Paul’s Gospel to try and make it complete. Listen it’s complete just like God wanted it as it sits in I Corinthians 15:1-4, and Romans 10:9-10, and other places Paul has written, and we just stand in His wonderful Grace. 
Ok now verse 11. 
Philippians 1:11 
"Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God." 
Now a verse comes to mind, and I hope I’ve got the right one in the Book of Romans, chapter 7. Now remember what Paul just said, "That we might be filled with the fruits of righteousness, which comes by Jesus Christ." Now drop in at verse 4. 
Romans 7:4 
so you are dead to the law) by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, (now you can’t be married to Christ if you’re still married to the Law. Romans 7:4 
"Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law (we’re under Grace) by the body of Christ; (His work of the cross) that ye should be married to another, (now we’re in union with Christ) even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God." 
And the fruit is "New Believers!" How can you reach the lost if you can’t show them a verse of Scripture? There must be that desire to be filled with the righteousness of Christ, and in turn bring forth fruit unto God. Now back to Philippians chapter 1. 
Philippians 1:12 
Isn’t that right? But what did Paul say? Romans 8:28 
Even in that Roman prison right next door to Nero’s palace. Now verse 13, and remember, why is Paul there? For the furtherance of the Gospel. 
Philippians 1:13a 
"So that my bonds (chained to a Roman soldier) in Christ are manifest in all the palace,..." 
Well listen, those poor pagan uncivilized people of that outer fringe of the empire didn’t have money for that in Paul’s day, so where did it come from? Rome. If you study Roman history, we in America today are lock step with them. So here is the apostle Paul in bonds, chained to a Romans soldier, and that guard would be changed maybe twice a day. And Paul is right next door to Caesar’s Palace. So Paul was in an eye shadow of Nero’s Palace, but his most contact was through these private guards of Nero. Now reading verse 13 again. 
Philippians 1:13 
"So that my bonds in Christ are manifest in all the palace, and in all other places." 
Philippians 4:22 
Philippians 1:13 
"So that my bonds in Christ are manifest in all the palace, and in all other places;" 
"REJOICE!" We get letters from people that are picking us up in Washington DC and you wonder how close are these people to our government? Rejoice, the Gospel is penetrating the palace of Nero. 
Philippians 1:14 
Philippians 1:15 
Well I think maybe some of the people that didn’t really like Paul, and they may have been some of the Jewish people who were trying to get rid of him thought they could get him deeper in trouble by proclaiming his Gospel out there, and telling people they had picked it up from Paul that guy you’ve got in prison. They were hoping that that in turn would come back and get him into worse trouble, but whatever, Paul says, "It doesn’t matter, as long as people hear the Gospel of Christ it’s going to touch their hearts, and finishing with verse 16.

I Timothy 2:3-7 - Part 2 
"Whereunto (Paul says) I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity." 
Now I trust you all realize, that all the way up through the Old Testament beginning with the appearance of Israel in Genesis chapter 12 and the Abrahamic Covenant, God dealt only with the nation of Israel, with an occasional exception. Matthew 10:5 
6. But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." 
Matthew 15:21-22 
A valid request? Matthew 15:23 
"But he answered her not a word. Then if Israel would have fallen in line, He could have sent the Jews out into the Gentile world, but not until Israel came in first. Matthew 15: 24. 
Alright, verse 25. Matthew 15:25-26 
Gentiles! Israel! I can’t take that which belongs to Israel and give it to Gentiles. Now reading on here in Matthew chapter 15. Now verse 27. 
Matthew 15:27 
Matthew 15:28 
"Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith; be it unto thee even as thou wilt. I don’t care what people say about Galilee being Gentile, there is not one word in the Scriptural record that Jesus ever ministered to Gentiles other than to these two. 
Now don’t lose sight all of this is coming from what we read back to I Timothy chapter 2 verse 6 where Paul says, I am the teacher of the Gentiles. Jesus, in His earthly ministry, and His disciples ministered only to Israel. But, Paul is immediately told to now go to the Gentile world. 
In the midst of those crowds of Jews, we find some Gentiles: 
John 12:20 
Gentiles.) John 12:21 
What did Peter tell him? Now, verse 22. What Jesus told them back in Matthew 10, have nothing to do with Gentiles. And so, Philip knew that it was not his place to take these Gentiles to speak with Jesus. Philip knew that Jesus had nothing to do with Gentiles. So Philip goes over and finds Andrew and says, "Andrew there’s Gentiles out here that want to see Jesus. Andrew evidently says to Philip, "Let’s go ask the Lord." Now verse 22. 
John: 12:22 
"Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus." 
Gentiles." Now read the next verse. John 12:23 
What’s the lesson? Alright, Jesus is giving them a lesson. Not until He had been, and I will use the word that Paul uses in Romans chapter 6, He had to be planted. Let’s turn to Romans chapter 11 verse 13. Absolutely, we study the Old Testament! Now looking at verse 13, and this is just plain English! 
Romans 11:13a 
Gentiles, (why?) inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles,..." 
The Apostle Paul becomes the only writer of Scripture that pertains to the Church Age. Jesus and the twelve are constantly preaching the "Kingdom of Heaven," the "Gospel of the Kingdom," to Israel. 
Paul never used the term! But, Paul instead uses the "Body of Christ" and the "Gospel of the Grace of God." So Paul says, I am the Apostle of the Gentiles. 
Romans 12:13b 
Defend his apostleship. Some said, we listen to Peter. Now Galatians chapter 2 verse 7. 
Galatians 2:7 
The gospel of the Gentiles) was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision (the Jew) was unto Peter;" 
Isn’t it plain! Here we have it laid out so clearly, inspired by the Holy Spirit that the Gospel of the Gentile was committed unto the Apostle Paul. And, the Gospel for the Jew was committed unto Peter. 
To Israel it was the "Gospel of the Kingdom." So God sent Israel into the dispersion that has lasted unto our very day. 
And He sent the Apostle Paul out to the Gentile world with the "Gospel of the Grace of God" (I Corinthians 15:1-4) which he calls here the Gospel of the Gentiles. Next verse. 
Galatians 2:8 
"(For he that wrought effectually in Peter (the same Jesus, who, of course, worked through Peter and the eleven, tremendously) to the apostleship of the circumcision (Jews), the same (Christ) was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:)" 
God sent him east instead of west! Now verse 9. 
Israel was falling through the cracks. Israel was rejecting His Messiahship. Israel was rejecting the Gospel of the Kingdom. And Paul is ascending as Israel goes down, Paul and his Gentile congregations are rising. Galatians 2:9 
"... that we (Paul and Barnabas) should go unto the heathen (the Gentile world), and they (Peter and the eleven would go, where?) unto the circumcision. (to Israel)" 
In Acts 10, God sends Peter up to that Gentile house or Cornelius. (by virtue of Peter) Peter, how could you? See?) If Peter suddenly understood that God was going to save Gentiles, why bother to go back to Jerusalem? Paul was the Apostle of the Gentiles, and Peter and the eleven remained as the Apostles of Israel, and I have always said that according to this Book, Peter and the eleven never had a ministry to the Gentiles.

I Timothy 1:8 
Going back to Romans chapter 13, “Love is the fulfilling of the law.” Now I want to take you back again to Romans chapter 3, where we see both those facets explained from Paul’s letter to the Romans with regard to the Law for Israel who were under the Law, and how the Law applied to the pagan, wicked, immoral Gentiles. Romans chapter 3 and I’ll drop in at verse 19. For the righteous man, it’s good if you use it right. All right, Romans 3 verse 19: 
Romans 3:19a 
Now stop right there. Who was under the Law? Well, Israel! Israel was under the Law and Israel alone. 
Romans 3:19b 
Every person on earth, according to the Law, was an enemy—a law-breaking citizen of the earth. And all the world was declared guilty by virtue of the Law. Even Israel under the Law became almost as lawless as the Gentile world around them. 
Judges 21:25 
All right, if you’ll come with me to I Timothy 1:10—where Paul, again, is delineating the behavior of the lost world. I Timothy 1:10 
Man’s greed, man’s old Adamic nature flies in the face of the moral code. Now let’s move on to verse 11. 
I Timothy 1:11 
“According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to (Whose trust? Paul’s – not Jesus’, not Peter’s, not John’s, not James’s—to no one but the Apostle Paul was committed this Gospel of Grace.) All right, so look at the verse again. 
I Timothy 1:11 
“According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.” Who did God give this gospel to? The Apostle Paul! You know, I’ve so often used the verse, and before we go back and look at Paul’s Gospel, we’re going to look at it again for the umpteenth time. 
II Peter chapter 3 verses 15 and 16. It wasn’t until God reveals that post resurrection. That post ascension Christ who now reveals to the Apostle the gospel of the blessed God as he calls it here in Timothy. Look at II Peter chapter 3. II Peter 3:15 
as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;” 
Paul is always saying, behold, I show you a mystery. Now verse 16: 
II Peter 3:16 
Well, what is this gospel of salvation? I Corinthians 15 and the first 4 verses is the most explicit, clear-cut explanation of the Gospel in all of Scripture. I Corinthians 15 verses 1-4. Here is the Gospel for us Gentiles today. This is the Gospel of the blessed God he referred to in I Timothy chapter 11. “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel…” Not A gospel. Now we’re left with ONE Gospel—the Gospel of the Grace of God—Paul’s Gospel. 
Peter? From Christ in His earthly ministry? The Gospel is that Christ died and was buried and rose from the dead. 
Christ DID arise from the dead. Turn with me now to Romans chapter 2 verse 16. A verse, again, and maybe I’ve said it before—very few church members realize this verse is in the Bible. Verse 16 of Romans 2. 
“In the days when God (in the person of Jesus Christ at the Great White Throne) shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ (And how are they going to be judged?) according to my (Paul’s) gospel.” Now I know that there were people that lived before Paul began preaching the Gospel of Grace. There have been more people living on the planet in this last 2,000 years since Paul’s Gospel than ever lived before. So the vast majority of the human race is going to come before God lost, and they are going to be judged according to Paul’s Gospel. That’s what it says – “According to my gospel.” Romans chapter 16 verse 25. 
Now you see, whenever Paul teaches or preaches this Gospel, he always associates it with the power of God. 
All right, back to the text, verse 25 again. 
“Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, (Now here’s Paul’s Gospel again.) Now let’s go a little further with Paul’s Gospel. Let’s turn the page, at least in my Bible, to I Corinthians chapter 1 verses 17 and 18. 
“For Christ…” Now always remember, when Paul speaks of Christ speaking to him, where is Christ? Ascended. Paul had a different mission for the Body of Christ.) but to preach the gospel:…” What gospel? Paul’s Gospel. And what is Paul’s Gospel? That Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose from the dead. 
I just said a moment ago--) it is the (What?) power of God.” 
Our good works do not involve the power of God. Joining a church does not involve the power of God. Being baptized does not invoke the power of God. This is something that God releases the moment He sees our faith. And that’s a heart thing only God can see! 
How can people keep on doing that which only God can do? Man can’t look on another man’s heart. Only God can do that.

We depend totally on the free-will offerings of God’s people. We have to tithe, because it was already practiced back with Abraham. Let’s start in Genesis chapter 2 verse 1 and particularly verse 2. 
Okay, that’s where the seventh day Sabbath was first introduced in Scripture—when God Himself rested from the six days of creation. 
Okay, verse 20, there it is. 
“And blessed be the most high God, who hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him (That is Abram gave to God.) tithes of all. So here we have the concept of tithing, or the ten percent as people like to look at it, way back here before the Law was ever introduced. The seventh day Sabbath, tithing, and circumcision all became part of the Mosaic Law. Genesis 17:10 
Every man child among you shall be circumcised.” Now verse 12: 
All right, now what I want to do is show how all three of these concepts—the Sabbath and tithing and circumcision—were picked up by the Mosaic Law as we go on into Israel’s history. 
Now in Exodus 16, the Law still hasn’t been given. That doesn’t happen until chapter 20. Verse 23: 
“And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, Tomorrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which ye will bake today, (That was on Friday.)The Sabbath day, Saturday, and so verse 25: 
All right, the Law hasn’t been given yet. But it was something that God incorporated. All right, when you get into chapter 20—turn over to that in Exodus. It becomes part of the Mosaic Law. Exodus chapter 20 verse 8 and it’s the same concept that He just gave them in chapter 16. 
It’s that constant reminder that God instituted the seventh day of rest back there in Genesis chapter 2. 
All right, now let’s do the same thing with tithing. All right, now let’s see where it picks up in the Law. Leviticus, and, oh goodness, if people would just do a word-study of tithing, they wouldn’t have so much difficult. 
“And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD’S: it is holy unto the LORD. Now verse 32: 
So God provided for the Levite tribe, the priests’ tribe, with the tithes of the other tribes. I wish people could understand that. The tithe was that which was given to support the Levites. All right, now verse 34: 
So tithing is not, now, just something that came from Abraham. It is now part of the Law. 
II Chronicles chapter 31 verse 5. II Chronicles—that’s right after the Kings—II Chronicles 31 verse 5. Start at verse 4, Honey. 
Levites, that they might be encouraged in the law of the LORD.” This is law. 
Not just the Ten Commandments, but the Law. the Levites, (They were the ones to accept the tithes.) that the same Levites might have the tithes in all the cities of our tillage.” 
All right, then the last one that everybody likes to use to put their people under the pressure of tithing is Malachi. Well, that’s not what the tithe was. All right, Malachi 3—drop down to verse 8. 
“Will a man rob God? In tithes and offerings.” 
“Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house,…” The Levites. Now on top of the tithes, there were also offerings that were other than the tithe. All right, now that pretty much covers the fact that tithing and the seventh day Sabbath and circumcision all went into the Law. 
Because I have to establish, now, that all three of these concepts—the seventh day Sabbath, the tithing, and circumcision—all funneled down into the Mosaic Law. And the Mosaic Law was in force when Christ began His ministry. Everything that Jesus said or taught was under the Law. He never went contrary to the Law of Moses. All right, in Luke’s Gospel chapter 1, we’ve got John the Baptist, verse 59. 
All right, when you come across the page to Luke chapter 2, we have Jesus in full accordance with the Mosaic Law in verse 21. 
All right, in Philippians chapter 3, might as well start at verse 4, Honey. 
Circumcised? The Law. According to the Law. The seventh day Sabbath—I Corinthians chapter 16. Here Paul writes: 
Now I can also use that verse for the next segment, for tithing. They were to bring their offerings, not their tithe. All right, now let’s see. Colossians chapter 2 starting at verse 14. We’re not under Law. All right, look what he says in verse 14. 
All right, then our last one again—circumcision. Galatians chapter 5, so that all three of these concepts which went into the Law, have now been abrogated by Paul’s declaring us not under Law but under Grace. 
2. Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, (According to the Law—if you’re going to practice circumcision according to the Law as part of your salvation.) Circumcision went away with the Law.

II Thessalonians 2:13a 
"But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you,..." 
Remember the Thessalonian letters were the first of Paul’s writings. With the simply preaching of the Gospel, God miraculously brought these people out of abject paganism and idolatrous darkness. And they were believers of Paul’s Gospel. 
II Thessalonians 2:13 
"But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth." Go all the way back to Romans Chapter 2 verse 16. Romans 2:16 
"In the day when God shall (now I am sure this is a reference to the Great White Throne of Revelation 20) judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ (who will be the judge at he Great White Throne, remember. And so, Jesus Christ will judge the secrets of men according to what benchmark?) according to my gospel" 
Now turn to Romans 16 verse 25. Because all this points up what I am constantly trying to get across, that you will not find the Gospel of the Grace of God in the four gospels. Alright, so now here in Romans 16 verse 25 Paul makes almost the same kind of a statement. 
Romans 16:25 
"Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, (my Gospel, Do you see that? And what’s Paul’s Gospel? The preaching of Jesus Christ!) So Paul says "that his Gospel which is the preaching of Jesus Christ according to a revealing of something that had been kept secret since the ages began." That’s why I said in the last lesson, when John wrote in his gospel that the law came by Moses but grace and truth by Jesus Christ. Yes, Jesus finished what had to be done but it was not proclaimed as a salvation gospel until it became the Gospel of the grace of God committed unto the Apostle Paul. Acts Chapter 20 verse 24. 
Acts 20:24 
the grace of God." 
This again has never been revealed until it came to the Apostle Paul. The Gospel of the Grace of God is that, because of God’s love for mankind, what did God do? It was committed unto the Apostle Paul. So, until Paul began to proclaim this Gospel, it was a secret, as he says in Romans 16, "hid in the mind of God until it was revealed to this apostle." 
Galatians Chapter 1. Starting in verse 11. Early on in the chapter he is admonishing us not to fall for an adulterated gospel.That anybody who falls for something that is not Paul’s Gospel is already condemned. They are accursed because God will not stand for his pure Gospel of Grace to be adulterated with legalism. Galatians 1:11-12 
"But I certify you, brethren, (I guarantee it) that the gospel which was preached of me (his gospel) is not after man. Galatians 1:15 
"But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb, and called me by his grace," 
"by his grace." Well not by the Grace of God calling them in to it. Saved his arch enemy, who hated the very name Jesus of Nazareth. For what purpose? 
Galatians 1:16a 
The Son of God, who had died. Galatians 1:16b 
"...that I might preach him (the resurrected Christ) among (what people?) Gentiles! Well now Paul, of course, is ready to begin to proclaim his Gospel to the Gentile world. People are calling about what they heard on Sunday morning. Now Ephesians Chapter 2. Ephesians 2:8 
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; (plus what? Nothing! You are saved by Grace through faith. it is the gift of God:" 
Do you work for a gift? No! If you work five minutes for something somebody gave you, then it wouldn’t be a gift because you have already worked for part of it. God doesn’t save us just to escape hell fire. Salvation is more than a fire escape. Next verse, verse 10. 
Ephesians 1:9-10a 
"Not of works, lest any man should boast. The Greek word ispoema, if I’m not mistaken. God has not only saved us, he has- 
Ephesians 2:10b 
"...created (us) in Christ Jesus (now, our position as a believer. unto good works,..." 
Absolutely good works has a place. But not for salvation. Ephesians 2:10c 
"...which God hath before ordained..." 
I’ve never met a believer yet that didn’t have an intrinsic ability that God can use. Every believer has something that God has placed within us. Ephesians 2:10d 
We appropriated that by faith. Come back to I Corinthians Chapter 3 starting at verse 9. Look what Paul writes. "For we are labourers together with God:..." 
See? God himself. We are co-laborers together with God. "...ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building. Now verse 12. 
I Corinthians 3:12 
"Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood hay stubble;" God has given us these materials to put into our, as I like to put it, section of the wall. Which is Jesus Christ. There is a reward system for the believer.

"And for this cause God shall send them a strong dilution, that they should believe a lie." 
So God will cause this man to supernaturally bring about a peace treaty in the Middle East that is unthinkable today. Well, what’s the lie? That the anti-Christ is the true Messiah, that he is God. Well, if you eat of the tree you can become God. That if we follow him, then we can become gods. 
Alright now verse 13 starts with one of my favorite three letter words in scripture. Flip side We are not in that company who have rejected the Gospel. 
"But, we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you..." II Thessalonians 2:13b 
"... we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning (now that goes back to Ephesians 1. chosen you to salvation through the sanctification of the Spirit and belief..." 
Faith. Trust. Alright, why are these Thessalonians outside of paganism and now in God’s salvation? Faith plus nothing. You never see anything added to faith in Paul’s letters. II Thessalonians 2:13b 
"...of the truth" All through Paul’s epistles, what basically is the truth? The Gospel! And what’s Paul’s Gospel? That Christ died for the sins of the world. Alright, let’s read verse 14, and then we are going to go back into verse 13. 
II Thessalonians 2:14a 
"Whereunto he called you by our gospel..." 
Paul is constantly referring to this as ‘my’ Gospel, or that which I preach. He is constantly bringing up the fact that he’s the one that brought this Gospel of the Grace of God to the human race. See, Paul over and over says, we preach Christ crucified, and risen from the dead.Paul doesn’t ever say we’re saved by believing in him, he’s only edifying that work of the cross. 
II Thessalonians 2:14 
Paul alludes to it in Romans Chapter 8, where he says – 
Romans 8:18 
Now come back up to verse 13. II Thessalonians 2:13b 
"...God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification (or the setting apart work) of the Spirit and the belief of the truth:" 
Ephesians 1:3-4a 
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places (or probably the original would say in the heavenlies) in Christ" (That’s our position in Christ.) God knew what we would do when we heard the Gospel. 
Now then, to confirm what I just said a moment ago, that Christ died for the whole human race. Come back to John’s gospel, chapter 1. John’s gospel chapter 1 verse 9. And of course, John is speaking of the Light of the world, about Jesus of Nazareth, at this point in time. John 1:9 
It’s the Word of God. Titus 2:11 
"For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to (unto how many?) all men." 
The grace of God which brings salvation which is associated with that light that came into the world, has appeared unto how many? Romans 1:20 
Look at verse 13 again. II Thessalonians 2:13b 
"...God hath from the beginning chosen you..." These people had entered into God’s saving Grace. "…God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and the belief of the (what?) truth.." 
What is, what Paul calls, the truth? John Chapter 1. It’s a verse that fits perfectly with what Paul writes here in his epistle. John Chapter 1 verse 17. 
John 1:17 
Grace.) but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ." 
The Age of Grace didn’t automatically kick in the moment Christ rose from the dead. Everything that was needed was done, but it hadn’t been revealed to the human race how to appropriate that Grace and truth until, I feel, we get to the Apostle Paul. What was that truth? The Gospel. And what was the Gospel? That Christ died and rose from the dead. Alright now then let’s look at Grace and truth. For that now let’s come back to Ephesians chapter 1, and we’ll begin with verse 12. 
Ephesians 1:12 
"That we (as believers as members of the body of Christ. Ephesians 1:13a 
of truth, ( See? Same word. So now we have to pick from this, what is the truth that Jesus Christ introduced and that Paul brings to the human race. The truth which is) the gospel of your salvation..." 
The truth is the gospel of your salvation. Absolutely, Paul’s Gospel is the only thing that sets men free. That’s what the truth is! 
The world has totally adulterated the term. And they no longer even associate the work of the cross with truth. The Gospel. Ephesians 1:13b 
"...the gospel of your salvation: (the truth) in whom also (speaking of Christ back in verse 12 remember) after that ye believed,…" 
Ephesians 2:13b 
The moment we believe the truth, the Gospel, then we are branded with the indwelling Holy Spirit. Now, I Corinthians 15 where we have what Paul calls "my Gospel." The first four verses are Paul’s Gospel, but let’s start with verse 3.

Go to II Corinthians 4, verse 3. Well, the minute Adam fell, he lost that dominion that God had given him when He first created him, and Satan picked that dominion up. So when Satan picked it up, he became then, the god of this world all the way down through human history. Now back to II Thessalonians chapter 2, and again into verse 9. So this man born of a woman, an ordinary human being from all appearances, but once the mid-point of the Tribulation is reached he will become indwelt by this god of this world, by Satan and all of his power, even as Judas was back at the first advent. 
II Thessalonians 2:9 
"Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders." 
Signs, miracles, and wonders, isn’t that right? Now let’s go back to the first time we have the instance of the powers of Satan counterfeiting and copying what the men of God were doing. So come back to Exodus chapter 7 verse 10. Now remember earlier in the Book of Exodus, God has proven to Moses that he was God’s instrument to bring Israel out of Egypt. And in order to prove to Moses that He was the real God of Abraham, He performed a couple of signs and miracles with Moses. Here Moses and Aaron go before Pharaoh, and again, to convince Pharaoh that the God of Abraham, the supernatural working God, is the One Who is sending them to get Israel out of Egypt, they too are going to use the sign gift. 
Exodus 7:10-11 
(instantly that Shepherd’s rod was suddenly a live serpent. Pharaoh of course knowing the powers of his magicians called his sorcerers in.) Not God’s power, but Satan’s. Because all those disciplines draw their power from Satan, everyone of them. Whenever there comes any kind of teaching like that, that is not from God, but rather that is Satanic.Now verse 12, speaking of the magicians of Egypt. 
Just exactly like Aaron’s rod did, but with Satan’s power. Otherwise then it’s nothing more than the powers of the magicians in Egypt, which is Satan. So back to this man, this master counterfeiter, and that’s why he’s depicted in the Book of Revelation chapter 6 as riding on a white horse. Because the True Christ will! II Thessalonians 2:9 
"Even him, (this anti-Christ) whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders." 
One is a political economic leader, the anti-Christ, but he’s going to have a side kick that will have much the same kind of power, called the false prophet. Revelation 13:11 
Revelation 13:12 
"And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast (the anti-Christ) before him, (remember this power is all coming from Satan) and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, (the anti-Christ) whose deadly wound was healed." 
Satan as the counterfeit of God the Father, the anti-Christ as a counterfeit of God the Son, and this false prophet or religious leader as a counterfeit of God the Holy Spirit. 
To point people to Christ! We have the same scenario with this false prophet, this religious leader will not draw the world to himself, but he is going to point the world to his boss the anti-Christ as we see there in verse 12. 
Revelation 13:12b 
"…and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast,…" (or anti-Christ.) 
The world is just literally going to fall at the feet of this man, anti-Christ. Now let’s go on to the next verse. This religious leader is the front man for the anti-Christ, who has the same power that the anti-Christ has. Revelation 13:13 
Well Elijah!! The counterfeiter is doing a repeat of the power of God. That’s why it will be so hard for men in this day and time to discern, "Is this the true God?" It’s the power of Satan. "Deceiveth."

Matthew 24:3 
Now look at verse 4. 
Matthew 24:4 
"And Jesus answered and said unto them, "Take heed that no man (what?) Now, let’s come back to Revelation. And so we have this false prophet, the cohort of the anti-Christ himself, both tools of Satan, both with the world literally falling at their feet. 
Revelation 13:14a 
Oh you see, the world loves miracles. This man drove up to my home one day and he said, "Les, if you could just perform one miracle, you wouldn’t just have 50 people in your classes, you’d have 50,000!" I don’t want 50,000 people who are coming to see a miracle. Revelation 13:14b 
Now they’re already calling him god, but if they’re really going to worship him someplace other than Jerusalem, they’d better make an image. Now look at verse 15. And if you don’t think these guys are going to have Satanic power. 
Revelation 13:15 
"And he had power (from Satan) to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed."

You want to realize that when the Rapture takes place and the believer is taken up, that in itself does not remove the Holy Spirit from the planet. Because all of scripture fits together. Let’s look at Genesis chapter 1 and verse 2. That after God destroyed, evidently, that original, beautiful earth in verse 1 in verse 2 we find this. 
Genesis 1:2 
The Spirit of God! And so never has this planet been without the manifestation of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is everywhere. The Holy Spirit permeates even the dens of wickedness. Why? I was never approached by the Spirit of God." As the body of Christ is taken out in what we call the Rapture, yes, the roll of the indwelling Holy Spirit stops for us because we won’t need it in glory. Sight! The Holy Spirit will be evident even as He is today. Time words. 
II Thessalonians 2:8a 
It’s a perfect parallel with verse 3. The man of sin be revealed. The removal of the Body of Christ and the dropping back of the Holy Spirit on the planet. II Thessalonians 2:8b 
"…shall that Wicked (one) be revealed…" 
I hope I don’t upset anybody because I add the word "One" the anti-Christ. Listen, there’s no use speculating. II Thessalonians 2:8 
Now let’s see what Paul is agreeing with. Turn with me to Revelation chapter 19, and drop down to verse 11, and see what totally different language there is here than Paul uses when he speaks of the Rapture. Paul never speaks of Christ coming for the Church on a white horse. Paul never speaks of Christ coming for the Church with attending wrath and vexation, but John does, because John is prophecy. Revelation 19:11 
Now look what Paul says in I Corinthians chapter 15, starting with verse 51. This is totally different language than Revelation. (there’s noting like that in Revelation, not a word) 52. No wonder people are confused. Here we’ll begin with verse 13. 
I Thessalonians 4:13 
(died) 16. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout,…" I Thessalonians 4:16b 
So here is what leads up to the destruction of this man of sin, the wicked one, the anti-Christ, that Paul is referring to in II Thessalonians 2:8. Now come on down to verse 16. 
Revelation 19:16 
"And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS." 
Now jump over to verse 20, and this again is what Paul is alluding to in II Thessalonians chapter 2. 
Revelation 19:20 
II Thessalonians 2:8 
"And then shall that Wicked (one) be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming." 
He’s going to end the anti-Christ’s domain on earth. And remember the old Devil who is indwelling this man has been the god of this world, he has ruled the kingdoms of this world for 6,000 years. Now here’s another verse that I just thought of. Here I’ll show you how Satan is the god of this world. Starting at verses 8 and 9. Matthew 4:8:9 
What does he show the Lord? Now look at the next verse.) Because Paul tells us Satan "is the god of this world." (Transcriber note: Les intended to say that the anti-Christ and the false prophet at the Second Coming of Christ would go straight to the Lake of Fire. This whole world system is under the control of Satan. Oh God’s got His Sovereignty I know that, but Satan is the god of this world, and don’t ever forget it. When you wonder how in every nation, even Israel, God’s chosen, Biblical people, their politics are rotten to the core. Because they’re still under control of the god of this world. And that will continue until the day comes when the Lord will rule as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Now let’s get back to II Thessalonians chapter 2, and look at verse 8 again. 
II Thessalonians 2:8 
"And then shall that Wicked (one, the anti-Christ) be revealed, (when he signs that 7-year treaty according to Daniel chapter 9) whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth , and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming;" 
At that time Satan will be sent to the bottomless pit. The anti-Christ and the false prophet are the ones that go to the Lake of Fire at the end of the Tribulation. Come back to Revelation chapter 20 and we’ll show what happens to Satan. 
Revelation 20:1-2 
A choice like each of us has to make, God or Satan. Now flip over to Revelation chapter 10 and this is what Paul is referring to when, in II Thessalonians 2:8 he says, "He destroys the anti-Christ and false prophet with the brightness of His coming." Now here in verse 10, the thousand year reign of Christ has just been completed and we see what happens to the old Devil.

So let’s begin with verse 15. Remember we didn’t finish that verse in the last lesson. 
Ephesians 6:15 
"And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;" 
Isaiah 52:7a 
"How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation;..." 
The main purpose of the Word of God is to bring lost people to a knowledge of salvation. Remember God’s not willing that any should perish! And if they’re not to perish, then they need to get the remedy from the Word of God. And as I’ve said so often, that remedy can only be found for the Church Age believers in Paul’s Gospel as we see in I Corinthians 15:1-4 which is faith + Nothing in the finished work of the cross. So whether it’s Old Testament or the New Testament, salvation is the main purpose for mankind to have the Bible. Isaiah 52:7 
"How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!" 
So let’s look at Romans chapter 10 for a moment. 
Romans 10:15 
Beautiful feet, because the Gospel always lifts people out of their misery. Now coming back to Ephesians chapter 6, and looking at verse 16. 
Ephesians 6:15a 
"Above all, taking the shield of faith,..." 
Ephesians 6:16 
"Above all, taking the shield of faith, (the Roman soldier used the shield to deflect arrows, and so forth) wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked." Our faith! And how I’m always emphasizing faith, and what’s my definition of faith? "Taking God at His Word!" By faith, we believe them. With our faith. With our faith. It’s just simply "but God has said it and I believe it," and if God has said it what more do you want. So our shield is faith, and oh what a word that Paul uses over and over. Ephesians 2:8a 
"For by grace are ye saved through faith;..." 
There isn’t a diploma that someone signs, that the Holy Spirit dwells within. The Bible says so, and we take it by faith. Look at what the Lord Himself says in this great chapter. Matthew 24:3-4 
(age) 4. And Jesus (the God of glory Himself) answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 
When is the last time you heard the plan of salvation as outlined by the apostle Paul for the Body of Christ believers proclaimed anywhere? We are seeing this wave of deception and the only way we can confront it is to have the truth, and our faith in the Word of God. Now you can be coming back to the Book of Ephesians chapter 6. Well if you can’t find it in your Bible in the age of Grace teachings, especially with Paul teachings, then run from it, because it’s a deception. It’s part and parcel of the end time scenario where people are believing men, and what they read in books instead of coming to the BOOK! 
It’s like one lady called from one of our major cities that has one of the largest Christian book stores in the country. Does the Book say it? Now let’s go on one more step in verse 16. 
Ephesians 6:16b 
We don’t attack him, but rather we defend against him, and we do it with the Word of God. Now verse 17. 
Ephesians 6:17 
"And take the helmet of salvation,..." 
Well the head, and what’s in the head? The mind, and to look at the mind turn ahead to Philippians chapter 2, and then we’ll go back to Romans chapter 12. 
Philippians 2:5-8 
Now for a moment let’s follow the mind to Romans chapter 12, because we can’t take the mind out of this. Romans 12:1 
"I beseech (beg) you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your (physical) bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God which is your reasonable service.(There is nothing unreasonable or bizarre about that request at all is there? Now verse 2.) Now remember this is the first time that the Gospel had been on the European side of the Aegean Sea. 
14. And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us:(now here’s the part I always pray for. Oh Lord give me Lydia’s today. )whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul." 
Even the apostle Paul, had the Lord not opened Lydia’s heart, how far would he have gotten? Ephesians 6:17 
"And take the helmet of salvation, (our whole process of thinking and believing it, taking it by faith. A sword. "The Word of God!" Now let’s compare some scriptures again. Quickly turn to Hebrews chapter 4. 
We also know that from the Book of Revelation, that you have the same analogy that God’s Word is the sword with which He fights.

Then let’s see what he says in verse 3. 
II Thessalonians 2:3a 
Now verse 4 Paul is in perfect accord with the Old Testament prophecies concerning this world ruler that’s coming on the scene. 
II Thessalonians 2:4a 
"Who opposeth (in other words he opposes the things of God) and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped:…" 
This man of sin will come in (and by flattery Daniel said), and he’s going to usurp this worldwide consortium of governments which will be headed up primarily in Western Europe. The European union I think is already the format for a revived Roman Empire. Who could ever imagine a peace treaty concerning Israel and Jerusalem, and the Moslems that would give the Jews permission to rebuild a temple. So there has to be a departure of the Body of Christ so God can pick up where He left off with His dealing with the covenant people Israel, then the anti-Christ, the son of perdition, the prince that shall come according to Daniel or as Paul refers to him down in verse 8 the wicked one shall be revealed. Now verse 4 again. 
II Thessalonians 2:4 
"Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God." 
This anti-Christ is going to be the god of this world, and the world is going to acclaim him as such. Even Israel will be taken in by this man. Even Israel, since this guy has been able to negotiate the re-establishment of temple worship, the Jews are going to acclaim him as their messiah, as God. Now both Paul and Daniel tell us that when this man gets that big headed, when he gets that arrogant, that he can claim that he is God, that he is the Messiah, then all of a sudden he let’s his power get away with him, and he goes to the temple in Jerusalem, and defiles it, and will not agree to temple worship of Israel’s God of Abraham. II Thessalonians 2:4b 
"…so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself (to the whole world) that he is God." 
Now let’s go back to Daniel chapter 9 once again and just keep picking this up verse by verse comparing one with the other. Now we know the Roman Empire died and disappeared from human history between 300 and 400 AD. Now as we approach the end times there has to be a Roman Empire back on the scene, but it won’t be the old empire of the Caesars of course, but rather it’s a revived Roman Empire. 
Well what are they talking about? Well that’s the exact border of the old Roman Empire. So out of that revived Roman Empire, and I think out of one of those ten nations of Western Europe will come this man, the prince that shall come. Now let’s drop down to verse 27, and here Daniel picks him specifically. 
Daniel 9:27a 
Not with just Israel, but with many. I can remember years ago when I used to read a lot of prophecy, and they would always refer to this treaty as between the anti-Christ and Israel. But I don’t agree with that, but rather this treaty is going to encompass all of the nations that are so called enemies of Israel. See what Israel was expecting out of the Old Testament prophecies, and as God spoke would happen through this priest Zacharias. Let’s just drop down to verse 67. Luke 1:67-71 
68. Blessed be the Lord God of (whom?) Well for goodness sake, who were Israel’s enemies at the time of Christ? Egypt, Syria, the Babylonians at that time, or the middle-eastern people. They hated Israel then just like they do today, and so the whole idea of Christ coming would be that He would save Israel from the hatred of their enemies. Verse 72. 
Luke 1:72 
"To perform the mercy promised to our father, and to remember his holy covenant; 73. Now come back to Daniel chapter 9, and this is exactly what this man will do. This man will come into power, in fact turn ahead a page or two to chapter 11, and let’s start at verse 21. Daniel 11:21 
Alright. Daniel 11:36 
Now verse 37. Daniel 11:37 
120 men clicked their heels. Then I said, "Forward march," and had 120 men began to march. Then verse 38. 
Daniel 11:38 
Now coming back to chapter 9 and verse 27. Remembering what Paul says, "He will sit in the temple of God," That is that Tribulation temple in Jerusalem that he instrumentally brought about with that 7-year treaty. Daniel 9:27b 
Now you know there’s no temple worship tonight! But someplace as this 7-year period begins the anti-Christ will permit sacrificial worship to begin in the temple that will be rebuilt in Jerusalem, and they will establish sacrificial worship. Now completing the verse. 
Daniel 9:27b 
Now turn to Matthew chapter 24. Remember Jesus too is dealing on the top line of this time line. Matthew 24:15

Daniel 9:26b 
"…and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary,…" 
So let’s begin our study in verse 24. Daniel by inspiration is writing, and God tells Daniel to say- 
Daniel 9:24a 
"Seventy weeks (of years, or 490 years) are determined (or already established in God’s program) upon thy people…" 
Now it’s interesting that when Israel is in the good graces of God, He refers to them as what? My people. But when they’re out of His good Grace, He calls them, "your people" whether He was speaking to Moses or Daniel. Now you want to realize that at the time God is speaking to Daniel, Israel is in captivity in Babylon which means they are out of the place of blessing in Jerusalem. Daniel 9:24 
It’s interesting, and I’ve made these points before, and I’m going to keep repeating them, that whenever God deals with Israel with regards to prophetic statements, almost without exceptions, because somebody may find an exception, but almost without exception, God puts that prophetic statement in a time frame. Then the next predetermined period of time was from the day Joshua took over the leadership of Israel until King Saul made the first king of Israel, was 490 years. 
Then from the time King Saul was commissioned as king of Israel until Nebuchadnezzar came in from Babylon and put the Israelites under servitude was another 490 years. God always deals with Israel in specific time frames. In between you have the Babylonian captivity in which Daniel is writing, and long before it happened, what did God tell Israel?"God had told them to let the land rest 1 out of 7 years. So you see everything that God does with Israel is in a prescribed time frame. Now with these empires there is no definitive time frame. In other words God didn’t say, "Babylon you’re going to rule 400 years. No God doesn’t do that, but rather all God is saying is, "one Gentile empire will be followed by another." But when He makes prophetic statements concerning Israel it’s always in a time frame. Because remember Daniel’s prophecy says – 
Daniel 9:25-26a 
At the crucifixion that would conclude 483 years of the 490 years that God had declared on the nation of Israel. Daniel 9:26a 
Daniel 9:26b 
I’m going to come back to the Old Testament timeline which comes up through all the Old Testament prophecies concerning Christ’s first coming, and it’s all to the Jew. Now the Old Testament format beginning in Psalms chapter 2 and all the Old Testament prophecies spoke of Christ’s first coming, He would be rejected, and then according to the prophecies the next thing that was to come after His ascending back to glory as we see in Psalms 110: 
Psalms 110:1 
"The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool." 
Now that was the call of Christ back to glory after His death, burial, and resurrection. Notice there’s not a word about the Church, not a word about this Age of Grace, but rather everything is based on prophecies made with Israel in this 490 year time frame that begin back in 454 BC. Alright then everything in prophecy was looking forward to His crucifixion, His ascension, and then would come then wrath and vexation, the out pouring of God’s judgment "the Day of the Lord." Psalms 2:6 
You all know those verses, and this was the Old Testament format. Now when Peter was preaching on the day of Pentecost, he had no idea that God was going to postpone that 7 years, and bring in the Church Age with the apostle Paul. Remember Peter and the twelve were part and parcel with the nation of Israel. So Peter goes on in Acts chapter 2 and quotes Joel’s prophecy. 
Acts 2:16 
"When Israel is out of the place of blessing, like they were in that 70 years of captivity in Babylon, God’s time clock on the nation stopped. God doesn’t count those years that He has decreed on Israel when they are out of the land." Just as soon as God opened this timeline and sent Israel into a dispersion, permitted her temple to be destroyed in 70 AD, the priesthood dismantled, and He goes to the Gentiles, God’s time clock stopped. Just like with the Gentile empires back in Nebuchadnezzar’s day and following, God did not put them in a time frame so also with the Gentiles Church Age we are not in a time frame. So God’s clock does not tick when He’s dealing with Gentiles or when Israel is out of the place of blessing. Probably 90% of church members, even Bible studying church members do not know these verses are here. All of the Old Testament writers (Jesus in His earthly ministry, Peter on the Day of Pentecost) were all looking forward to this progressive timeline. After Christ was crucified, and ascended, in would come the wrath and vexation, then Christ would return, and yet set up His kingdom.

"…and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary,…"
So let’s begin our study in verse 24. Daniel by inspiration is writing, and God tells Daniel to say-
Daniel 9:24a
"Seventy weeks (of years, or 490 years) are determined (or already established in God’s program) upon thy people…"
Now it’s interesting that when Israel is in the good graces of God, He refers to them as what? My people. But when they’re out of His good Grace, He calls them, "your people" whether He was speaking to Moses or Daniel. Now you want to realize that at the time God is speaking to Daniel, Israel is in captivity in Babylon which means they are out of the place of blessing in Jerusalem. Daniel 9:24

Now verse 4. What’s the first word? I Thessalonians 5:4 
Because we’re going to experience the "Day of Christ" at the Rapture before the "Day of the Lord" begins. I Corinthians 1:4 
"I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God (See, there’s no wrath here, this is Grace) which is given you by Jesus Christ;" 
The Day of the Lord was the Day of Jehovah, His Old Testament title. Paul speaks of Him not as Jehovah, but as Jesus Christ. Now verse 5. 
I Corinthians 4:5-7 
Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you: 7. So that ye come behind in no gift: (now here it comes) waiting for the coming (not for the day of the Lord, but) for our Lord Jesus Christ." 
We are waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. So turn with me to the Book of Titus chapter 2. It’s a verse I’ve used on television for people who come to your door and deny that Jesus Christ is God. "For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath (past tense) appeared to all men, (the same Grace of God) 12. Looking for that blessed hope, (not the wrath of God. Paul never uses that term for the believers, but he says, ) Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God (do you see that? We’re looking for that great God, the Creator of the universe) and our Saviour Jesus Christ;" 
Now come back to I Corinthians chapter 1. So we’re waiting for this glorious blessed hope to become a reality, the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ. Now verse 8. 
that ye may be blameless…" 
We’ll never have to stand before Him and say, "Oh Lord I have all this sin." "…in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ." 
Not the Day of the Lord for judgment, but the Day of Jesus Christ, or the Day of God calling out the believers. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, 5. God’s not going to let them continue to besmirch the name of Christ, and that’s what Paul is saying about this person, but this person is not going to lose his salvation for the sin But rather God is going to take him out of his human life to spare the reproach of Christ. I Corinthians 5:5 
in the day of the Lord Jesus." 
When Christ returns to take the Body of Christ out and off of this old planet. Now let’s look at another one in II Corinthians chapter 1, and remember all these references are about the Day of Christ, and found only in Paul’s epistles. Let’s just drop in at verse 14. 
II Corinthians 1:14 
What’s Paul talking about here? That all of these Corinthian believers are going to be united with Christ, and Paul, and you and I, and all of the Church Age believers when we have that meeting in the air, in the day of the Lord Jesus Christ. Now let’s move on over to the Book of Philippians, chapter 2, and begin with verse 15. 
Philippians 2:15 
"That ye may be blameless (that is in the eyes of the Lord Jesus) and harmless, the sons (or the born ones) of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;" 
Well we are as Grace Age believers, but remember Jesus didn’t speak that to us, but to the Nation of Israel, but now we see Paul’s using the same analogy. So as believers we are now the light of the world. Now verse 16. 
"Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ,…" 
Not the Day of the Lord, not the Day of judgment, but rather the Day of Christ, when the Church the Body of Christ will suddenly be translated to meet the Lord in the air. My, no wonder it’s called the blessed hope. Now let’s go back to I Thessalonians chapter 5, and let’s read verse 5. 
"Ye are all the children of light,…" 
I Thessalonians 5:5 
Now verse 6. 
I Thessalonians 5:6 
If ever there was a time for believers to be wide awake and expectant, it ‘s today. Don’t fall asleep, and think, "Oh well the Lord is going to delay His coming."

I Thessalonians 2:15 – 4:18 - Part 2 
My, if you don’t realize that the Body of Christ is a Pauline revelation - and he’s the only one that uses that term, and the beginning of the Body of Christ began with Paul, then the end of it also has to come from Paul. So Paul alone teaches this monumental thing that we look for at anytime, and that is the silent out-calling of the Body of Christ in what we call the Rapture of the Church. 
I’ve always liked to use Psalms chapter 2 to illustrate this timeline. It’s a perfect illustration where Israel, along with Rome, rejected Christ. Psalms 110:1 
"The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool." 
Christ’s rejection, the 7 years of Tribulation, the Second Coming, and then the kingdom. Now of course wherever I teach the timeline the first thing I ask people is, "What does the Old Testament program lack?" Well the Church Age is missing from that timeline. It’s not mentioned one time. So since we know that the Church Age is missing from the timeline, we make another timeline and put in this parenthesis (the Age of Grace, the calling out the Body of Christ, which is the Church) Since the 7 year Tribulation, the return of Christ at His Second Coming, and the 1000 year Kingdom Age still must happen, we know that, in order for those events to happen, that God will take the believing Church out of the way, He has to resurrect the Church Age believers so that we can all be reunited and go on up into glory and face the Lord at the Bema Seat for rewards, so that has to include those who have died in Christ. 
God has merely pushed the Tribulation, the return of Christ and the 1000 year Kingdom Age out into the future while He is filling up the Body of Christ. "The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us…" 
God has seen fit to keep this Church Age phenomenon and that’s what it really is, it’s just something out of this world. But He has kept it secret, and even the Lord Jesus Himself in His earthly ministry was so careful not to reveal the Church Age. Now here in I Thessalonians is 1 of 3 portions of Paul’s letters that deal with the Rapture. That is all part of the Second Coming, and is never mentioned in Paul’s letters as part of the Rapture, and that’s why the Lord could come this afternoon before we leave. Now let’s look at the Rapture. 
I Thessalonians 4:13 
Now verse 14. I Thessalonians 4:14 
"For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, (that’s Paul’s Gospel salvation message of I Corinthians 15:1-4) even so them also which sleep (or have died) in Jesus will God bring with him." 
Resurrection day! Now read on in verse 15. 
I Thessalonians 4:15 
I Thessalonians 4:16 
Now verse 18. 
"Wherefore comfort one another with these words." 
So let’s pick it up in verse 51 of Chapter 15 which of course is the great resurrection chapter. In this chapter Paul says, "that if Christ be not risen from the dead, then we of all men are most miserable." 
Now the oriental religions speak of reincarnation, but never resurrection. So remember only Christianity teaches that concept. This is a unique phenomena for us as believers in Christ. So Christ was the first fruit of a real resurrection. I Corinthians 15:51a 
Well God has. I Corinthians 15:51b 
The blessed hope, the appearing, not the Second Coming, but the appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ who will only come to the air for us. I Corinthians 15:51 
With God nothing is impossible! Now I know when we look at this whole concept of the Rapture and that in less than a second of time, every believer who has died is going to be resurrected, given a new body, joining the Lord in the air. We can’t go to glory in this body if we’re alive when He comes, so He’s going to change this body. 
So God’s trumpet will sound. 
I know with God nothing is impossible, and He can change several million people from this body of flesh to a resurrected body that is incorruptible in a blink of an eye. I Corinthians 15:53 
(so that we will never die) 
Now we’ve got a few moments left, and I guess I will take time for the third portion where Paul speaks of the Rapture and that’s over in II Thessalonians chapter 2. I can’t take you back to Isaiah, and teach the Rapture. Only Paul has been designated the apostle of the Church Age, the apostle of the Gentiles. And Paul defends his apostleship over and over. And like I said in my newsletters that the man who instituted the Body of Christ as He calls himself in I Corinthians chapter 3, the masterbuilder. 
So now in II Thessalonians chapter 2, beginning with verse 1. 
II Thessalonians 2:1 
Now verse 2.

Now verse 3. Here Paul clarifies it. 
All the prophecy concerning Christ’s coming was to the Nation of Israel.

Now let’s go back to I Thessalonians chapter 4 and pick up again with this mind of the apostle Paul toward these new believers fresh out of paganism. Now verse 2. 
I Thessalonians 4:2 
"For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus." 
Paul didn’t dream these things up. I Thessalonians 4:3a 
"For this is the will of God, even your sanctification,…" Now that’s not a big word to scare people. As I’ve said so often, the believer is not to be an odd ball or some kind of kook that the world laughs at, but we are to be different in a way that our lifestyle is pleasing unto God rather than pleasing unto the Satanic world around us. I Thessalonians 4:3b-4 
This body of flesh. I Thessalonians 5:23 
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; (set you apart) and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body…" 
Don’t think for a minute that God is only concerned with the Spiritual element. We have been left in this body of flesh, and it’s in the body that we promote the love of Christ to the world around us. I Thessalonians 4:5 
"Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:" 
You have to remember that in the pagan world in which Paul lived, there was no real sense of morality, honesty or Godliness because they knew nothing of that. Remember it if hadn’t been for Christianity, western civilization wouldn’t have preceded any farther than the rest of the world. I Thessalonians 4:6 
Now verse 7. 
I Thessalonians 4:7 
"For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, (that’s where the Gentile world was anyway, and that’s where we would be anyway) but unto holiness. 
Now that word holiness often scares people. People don’t want to be holy. Now verse 8 
I Thessalonians 4:8a 
"He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God,…" 
Here, Israel has been ruled by the judges that God has appointed, and Samuel is the last one, but now the people want a king. See the analogy is the same - the world hasn’t changed one bit. Human nature hasn’t changed, and God hasn’t changed. 
I Samuel 8:1-7 
"And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel. 5. And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations. 7. And the LORD said unto Samuel, "Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them." 
You see, they weren’t rejecting Samuel the man, but rather they were rejecting the God under whom Samuel laboured. You see, they do not show their hatred for Christianity because of the individual Christians, but rather it’s the God of Christianity that the world hates. So Paul says, our adversaries do not despise us personally as men, but they despise God, 
I Thessalonians 4:8b 
"…who hath also given unto us his Holy Spirit." 
Now another verse just comes to mind. We need to use every verse of Scripture that the Lord puts in our mind. Let’s look at Romans chapter 8, where Paul again makes it so plain, and this helps the believer to understand our position in this world around us. Why do they seemingly have no concerns about what God says? No, they don’t because they are anti-God and they’re the enemies of God, so consequently it never enters their mind. Romans chapter 8, verse 5. 
7. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; (we don’t ordinarily look at people being enemies of God do we? The carnal mind, the unsaved person is an enemy of God. The unbelieving world is not subject to the law of God, and neither indeed can it be. It’s amazing that the world holds together as well as it does. It really is, when you realize the abject paganism of the ancient world, and when you realize that during the period of human history ever since then up unto now, the vast percentage of people having no concern about the things of God. It’s always been a small percentage of people who love God. 1/10 of 1 percent. Oh, maybe our immediate family, and maybe our next door neighbor, but the world? I Thessalonians 4:9 
"But as touching brotherly love (the love for fellow believers) ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another." I Thessalonians 4:10a 
I Thessalonians 4:10b 
I Thessalonians 4:11a 
Well you know the oriental religions emphasize meditation. So what’s the difference between meditation and study? When you study you get out the Book, and you may have to get a concordance and some study helps, and you study. I Thessalonians 4:11 
"And that ye study to be quiet,…" 
"God wasn’t in it." God! And this what we have to realize, we’re living in a day that is contorting the Scriptures, and God is still admonishing us to study be quiet before the Lord.

I Thessalonians 1:1 – 2:14 
Now let’s continue on with I Corinthians chapter 11 with this admonition from the apostle Paul to follow him. You know, everybody’s got the idea that we have to walk in the footsteps of Jesus but Paul doesn’t teach that. We follow Paul, who follows Christ. So actually yes, Christ is preeminent in our life – not Paul. Christ is the one who died for us, not Paul. But Paul is the one who has been commissioned to be our apostle. And it’s through his writings that we have the Word of God for Church Age believers. Now let’s jump back in where we should have ended in I Corinthians chapter 11, verse 1. 
I Corinthians 11:1 
"Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ." 
Now the next time he says it is in Philippians chapter 3, verse 17. And you know I’m always stressing the apostle Paul did not have an ounce of conceit or egotism. Philippians 3:17-19 
We’re now ready for verse 7. Let’s read verse 6 again to just pick up the flow. 
I Thessalonians 1:6-10 
Remember Greece, in Paul’s day, was divided into two states, Macedonia to the north and Achaia down to the south.) 9. For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, (and this is the verse we covered in our last half hour) and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;(that was the response of love) 10. Now let’s go on the chapter 2 of I Thessalonians and verse1. 
I Thessalonians 2:1 
From the Jewish element, who hated everything Paul was doing, as well as from the pagan element who, of course, had nothing to do with Christianity. Between Philippi, Thessalonica and Berea and on down to Athens. 
14. And then immediately the brethren sent away Paul to go as it were to the sea; but Silas and Timotheus abode there still." 
Which was with the deputy (governor, the ruling individual) of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man (a Roman, a Gentile) who called for Barnabas and Saul and desired to hear the word of God." 
Now let’s go on to verse 8. 
Acts 13:8 
So right from the very beginning of Paul’s missionary ministry to the Gentiles, he has opposition from the Jewish people from start to finish. Here comes these Jews from Jerusalem, seemingly having religious authority, and they bombard these poor earthly Gentile believers with " Well that’s all well and good as far as Paul went, but he didn’t go far enough. Believing Jews! Well said! Because that’s what legalism does, it just shackles people, puts them under fear and superstition. I Thessalonians 2:5-8 
"For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloke of covetousness; God is witness: (the apostle Paul never came into a city with the idea that he was going to see how much of their money he could get before he left. Never! I Thessalonians 2:9 
"For ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail: for labouring night and day, because we would not be chargeable (or put in debt) unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God." 
Isn’t that right? If you’re a true man of God, you should be able to live off of the tithes and offerings of God’s people. Now verse 10. 
I Thessalonians 2:10 
I Thessalonians 2:11 
Do you see what a love he had for these pagan people? Remember they were pagans, they had just recently been offering offerings up to the gods and goddesses of the pagan world. Now verse 12. 
"That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory. 13. For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, (underline that next portion) ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God,…" 
Whenever we quote a Scripture, or make a doctrinal statement that people could just sit up and say, "Boy, now that’s God speaking!" Reading verse 13 again. 
I Thessalonians 2:13 
"For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, (every thing he spoke to these pagan was understood to be the Word of God) which effectually worketh also in you that believe." 
See the unbelieving world can never accept the Word of God whether it’s in this Book or in your mouth or mine. But people of faith can immediately recognize the truth. Now verse 14. 
I Thessalonians 2:`14 
"For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judaea are in Christ Jesus: (now don’t let that throw you a curve. That simply means that the same God who began the work with Christ’s earthly ministry, and the assemblies there in Jerusalem, had now gone on to the places where Paul was sent to the Gentiles. It’s the same God.)

I Thessalonians 1:1 – 2:14 
Well Paul didn’t argue with the vision, he took a ship and went across to Philippi. Here Paul and Silas leave the Church at Antioch, and then in chapter 14 then move on into central Turkey, Asia Minor, and go into the work at Iconium, and Derbe, and Lystra then all the way up to chapter 16 is the account of what happened in Philippi. 
Philippi, a Roman colony, meant that there was a Roman Garrison stationed there at the city, or like today we call them occupation troops. Now look at verse 5. 
"The God of our fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob." Here into this pagan world comes one man, with two or three of his friends, but by and large, it was the work of the apostle Paul that caused these pagans to think that they were literally turning their religious world upside down, or like most people say, "right side up". Now verse 7. 
10. And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: (which is the next little city south of Thessalonica) who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews." 
They spent some time at Berea and then Paul comes down to Athens alone. I’ve had to teach people three years before they see it. Now let’s take it verse by verse for a little bit. 
I Thessalonians 1:1-3 
"Paul and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church (assembly) of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ:… (that’s the same positioning that Paul teaches us in Colossians chapter 3, as we saw a week or two ago. We’re hid in Christ in God. Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;" 
Now, whenever the scripture repeats something in a rather short period of time, what’s my word? Now let’s go down to verse 9 and what a tremendous verse. I Thessalonians 1:9 
"For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, (in other words, your testimony shows how God blessed our ministry among you) and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God." 
What one word describes those people turning from their pagan idolatry to the truth of God? FAITH!!! It was their faith. It still takes faith in God’s word. Now, put that over with the work in verse 3 and what was the labor in verse 3? Here’s how you learn to compare scripture with scripture. Love! Faith and love. Now come on down to verse 10. 
I Thessalonians 1:10a 
Come back and compare it with the third part of verse 3 and what’s the word? Hope! Let’s go to I Corinthians chapter 13. I Corinthians 13:13a 
"And now abideth faith, hope, charity,…"(love), 
Let’s just compare verse 3 and 9 here in I Thessalonians chapter 1. 
I Thessalonians 1:3a 
"Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, …" Comparing with the last part of verse 9. 
I Thessalonians 1:9a 
"…and how ye turned to God from idols…" 
I Thessalonians 1:3a 
"…and labour of love,…" 
I Thessalonians 1:9b 
"…to serve the living and true God." 
What is predominant reason for serving God right now today in the year 2000? Ignorance is simply a lack of teaching. I Thessalonians 1:3b 
"…the patience of hope…" And comparing with verse 10, this patience of hope. 
I Thessalonians 1:10a 
So again he’s used all three words of Faith, Love, and Hope. Now let me show you another verse where Paul uses those same 3 words. Come over to the Book of Titus, chapter 2 for a moment. Now look what Paul writes concerning Faith, Hope, and Love. 
Titus 2:11 
"For the Grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men." 
Ephesians 2:9 
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:" 
Through Faith! So what can you label this verse? Faith. All right then the next verse. 
Titus 2:12 
What’s that? That’s your labour of love. "Titus 2:13 
"Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;" 
So we have Faith, Love, and Hope. I don’t need a book on how to treat my kids. If you’re into this BOOK it’s going to come naturally. 
So Paul had brought them by simply proclaiming the Gospel, the good news out of that immoral pagan background, 
I Thessalonians 1:4 
"Knowing, (he didn’t have to wonder, he knew these Thessalonians were believers) brethren beloved, your election of God." 
Now verse 5. 
I Thessalonians 1:5a 
"For our gospel…" 
The Gospel Paul defines so clearly in I Corinthians 15:1-4. I Thessalonians 1:5-6a 
I Corinthians 4:16 
Paul says, "be ye followers of me!" Now come on over to chapter 11 verse 1.

I Thessalonians 1:1 – 2:14
Well Paul didn’t argue with the vision, he took a ship and went across to Philippi. Here Paul and Silas leave the Church at Antioch, and then in chapter 14 then move on into central Turkey, Asia Minor, and go into the work at Iconium, and Derbe, and Lystra then all the way up to chapter 16 is the account of what happened in Philippi.
Philippi, a Roman colony, meant that there was a Roman Garrison stationed there at the city, or like today we call them occupation troops. Now look at verse 5.
"The God of our fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob." Here into this pagan world comes one man, with two or three of his friends, but by and large, it was the work of the apostle Paul that caused these pagans to think that they were literally turning their religious world upside down, or like most people say, "right side up". Now verse 7.

Colossians 3:5b-6 
"…(you were in) fornication, uncleanness, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: 6. For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:" 
The wrath of God will be poured out when the Tribulation begins, or at least the last half of it. So the world really hasn’t tasted the wrath of God. Now of course the people who are lost, when they die they immediately enter into their lost state, then I guess you could say, that the wrath of God is already evident. But as we normally think of God’s wrath, is in that future period of time. The wrath of God is going to be poured out on these multitudes of Christ-rejecting people. 
God is not going to put up with it forever. Now let’s move on quickly then to verse7. 
Colossians 3:7 
"In the which (that horrific lifestyle) ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them." 
Thanks to God and you who opened my eyes, now I’m clean!" Colossians 3:8-9a 
So Paul says, "That’s not for us. Colossians 3:9 
"Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man (or the old Adamic nature) with his deeds:" 
Now verse 10 
Colossians 3:10a 
II Corinthians 5:14 
Romans 3:23 
"For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God;" 
Other than Christ who was not a sinner, not a person has ever not come short of the glory of God. "That if one died for all, then we’re all dead.""Every man!" II Corinthians 5:15-16 
Now here it comes in verse 17. 
II Corinthians 5:17 
"Therefore if any man be in Christ, (if we’re in the Body of Christ. If we’re hid in Christ in God, if that has happened then) he is a new creature: (creation) old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." 
Now verse 18. 
II Corinthians 5:18 
"And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation." 
Now back to Colossians chapter 3, and verse 10 again. 
Colossians 3:10 
Now talking about the Body of Christ we find the following in verse 11.

Looking at verse 11 again. 
Colossians 3:11 
Now verse 12. 
Colossians 3:12-13b 
"Put on therefore, (as a result of all that Christ has done) as the elect of God, (the ones that God has saved by His Grace) holy (set apart) and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; (now verse 13. I know I probably irritate people, but I thank God that they forbear with me, and that’s what we have to do with others. Colossians 3:13 
We’re forgiven, we’re totally forgiven, and I don’t have to go back everyday and say, "Oh God forgive me." "Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. 10. Jesus saith to him, he that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit and ye are clean, but not all. 
Peter had already been saved. Cleaning! 
How do you wash a strainer? We get daily cleansing, by the washing of the water, but what does Paul say the water is? The Word of God! Now let’s move on to verse 14. So we’re to forgive as Christ forgave us. 
Colossians 3:14 
Now verse 15. 
Colossians 3:15a 
"And let the peace of God rule in your hearts,…" 
A lot of people don’t have the peace of God. God is full of Grace, God is ready to cleanse, and there is no need for Christians to go through life with not having this peace of God. 
Colossians 3:15b 
See there it is again, the Body of Christ, which all believers of the Paul’s gospel is a part of. If you haven’t used works for salvation but only believed, then you’re in the Body of Christ! Colossians 3:16a 
"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom;…" 
Colossians 1:9-10 
Christianity is what makes people a good citizen. Now verse 10. 
Colossians 1:10 
"That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, (we don’t have to be like sandpaper to people who are around us. However they must also realize that we’re different than the world) being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;" 
God wants you to increase in the knowledge of His Word and Himself. Now back to Colossians chapter 3, verse 17 for some more of just practical admonition. 
Colossians 3:17 
"And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him." 
Ephesians 5:20 
"Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father (how?) in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;" Now thats the Scriptural instructions, and Paul says the same thing here in Colossians. 
"And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him." 
3. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour. 5. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;"
