Hebrews 6:1-4 
"…not laying again the foundation; of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God." 
Put it into everyday life. You’re going to start building. 
Now remember the primary subject of the book of Hebrews is Jews. I can come back to Hebrews so just hold your hand in Hebrews. Come back with me to Acts chapter 20 verse 24. Paul of course, refers to this Gospel of his in various forms. He’ll call it my Gospel. He’ll call it that Gospel which I preach among the Gentiles. He’ll call it the Gospel of Christ. The Gospel of the Grace of God is that God has now through the person of the Son, died the horrible death of the Cross. Not just Israel, not just the Gentiles, but rather the whole human race. 
That’s the Gospel of the Grace of God. So Paul is saying now, once you’ve come through these words of Jesus in His earthly ministry establishing Who He was. Because, when Israel rejected all that and crucified their Messiah, in reality, they were just simply fulfilling the Sovereign blueprint of God because Christ had to die. Alright, so now then Paul says, don’t stay on just that foundation. They’ve got the foundation poured. Let’s look at the foundation of the Gospel of the Grace of God that we’re going to be talking about. I Corinthians chapter 3 dropping in at verse 10. I Corinthians 3:10 
"According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder. I have laid (not a foundation, but what) the (the only) foundation, and another buildeth thereon. We had to leave that foundation that was offered to Israel under the Gospel of the Kingdom, because that is now moot. But now we move to a new foundation which is that which the Apostle Paul has laid. Now, let’s be careful. Paul isn’t claiming to be the foundation. Now the next verse, 
Jesus Christ." That’s the foundation on which everything now rests. 
"I certify you, brethren, that the gospel (this Gospel of the Grace of God) which was preached of me is not after man. Revealing. What’s a revealing? 13. For ye have heard of my conversation (or manner of living) in times past in the Jews’ religion,…" 
Now finishing verse 13. 
The Apostle Paul speaks of Christ on this side of the Cross. After the finished work of death, burial and resurrection. The Four Gospels are before the Cross and most people can’t understand that. Back to Hebrews 6. 
"…not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and faith toward God." 
That was the very tenets or the precepts of the Gospel of the Kingdom that Jesus and the Twelve proclaimed to Israel. And Paul says, ‘That’s moot.’ "Don’t lay again the foundation of repentance from dead works and faith toward God." 
Now goodness sakes, didn’t all the Old Testament understand those two. Faith! Dead works, wow! 
Alright, remember now what he says, not to lay the foundation of repentance from dead works. 
Works. Dead works, because it couldn’t generate life. Alright, looking at the verse again. 
"For ye have heard of my conversation (manner of living) in time past in the Jews’ religion, (practicing those dead works as he calls it in Hebrews.) and how that beyond measure, I persecuted the church (or the assembly of God) and wasted it:" 
Stop and think. They’ve done it throughout their national history. Religious differences. Look at Israel today. Well, Paul was no different. He was a Jew’s Jew. See his fellow Jews put to death. Why? Just watch the little Nation of Israel. Alright, now verse 14. 
Paul was a religious zealot just like some of these Muslims that we’re dealing with. Religion will always do that to people. Now back to the Book of Hebrews. Get away from that foundation which required repentance from dead works and of faith toward God. We all know that without faith it’s impossible to please God. Hebrews 6:2a 
So Paul says, move on. Hebrews 6:2b 
"…and of resurrection of the dead and (the next part people don’t like to read) eternal judgment." 
Eternal. How long is eternity? As long as God lives! Either in bliss and glory or eternal doom. Now of course, modern Judaism, a lot of Jews do not believe in a literal, viable life after death. Remember Job is clear back before David. Job 19:25-26 
Now there’s resurrection life way back in Job’s day. See? Alright, let’s come on up to Daniel chapter 12, and we’ll start right up there at verse 1. Daniel 12:1-2 
It’s either a life of bliss and glory in the presence of the Lord or it’s a life of doom. Now verse 3. 
Daniel 12:3 
Alright, let’s look at one more in Christ’s earthly ministry. Let’s go back again to John chapter 11, the death of Lazarus. Alright, verse 23, Jesus comes back to Bethany, and He’s telling Mary and Martha, 
John 11:24 
Just exactly what Job, and Daniel were talking about. Alright, back to Hebrews chapter 6. Eternal judgment. Revelation 20:14

Hebrews 5:1-14 - Part 2 
Hebrews chapter 5 verse 10. Hebrews 1:3b 
It was finished. Now let’s begin with verse 10. 
"Called of God an high priest (not after the order of Aaron but) after the order of Melchizedek." Who, remember, was the high priest of the Most High God, which was the definition of God concerning the non-Jewish world. Hebrews 5:11 
What is Paul referring to? Now verse 12, why were they dull of hearing? Large churches or small. How many of your fellow-church people have a hunger for the Word of God? Most professing believers have no hunger for the Word of God. They’re dull of hearing. Hebrews 5:12 
You should be sharing it with people but instead, Paul says,) you have need that one teach you again which are the first principles of the oracles of God." So right there between the lines what is the process that God hopes to see happen? That after you’ve been taught, you share it with others. Hey, if you’ve studied, and if you’ve done your homework, the Lord will give you what it takes to share. Well, that’s what Paul is dealing with. But these people weren’t ready. Plain old basic math. There’s no use trying to learn algebra unless you know the principles of mathematics. 
People have to know the basics. Get people an understanding of Who God is, and how it all came about. How did sin enter? You cannot pass on the principles of the Word of God." Hebrews 5:12b 
milk,…" 
Goodness sakes, who starts out on milk? Babies! Alright now, Paul, the tremendous apostle that he was, had problems teaching people, too. The Corinthian Church was the congregation with the most problems. I Corinthians 3:1 
"And I brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, (or fleshly) even as unto (what?) babes (or babies) in Christ." Now they were believers and they had been believers for quite some time but they were still in their infancy so far as spiritual things were concerned. Now verse 2: 
"I have fed you with milk,…" He understood when they were new believers fresh out of paganism that they needed the milk of the Word and so that’s what he gave them. I Corinthians 3:2 
Alright, now verse 3, what was their problem? 
"For ye are yet carnal:…" I Corinthians 3:3 
So Paul had to deal with problems in that Church because they weren’t growing. I Peter 2:2 
"As new born babes, (see the illustration? desire the sincere milk of the word,…" 
People are hungry for the Word. I had a young man call just last night, and he watches the program in the morning, tapes it, watches it again when he gets home at night. So it’s possible to learn a lot in a short time if you’re hungry. 
We as believers, we start out as newborn babes desiring the sincere milk of the Word. The principles, as Paul said in Hebrews, of the Word of God, the very foundations, the basics. That you grow. Now babies don’t stay on milk. Alright verse 3. 
Peter 2:3 
"If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is (what?) So back to chapter 5. Now then, let’s move on to verse 13 of Hebrews chapter 5. 
Hebrews 5:13a 
"For every one that useth milk…" 
They’re still on maybe Christ’s earthly ministry, at least let’s hope maybe they’ve gotten that far. Most people don’t even know what I’m talking about, and Paul enlightens us on that subject. 
They’ve never gotten off the milk bottle. They’ve never gotten any further than Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Then Paul goes on to say here in Hebrews: 
Hebrews 5:13 
"For every one that useth milk is unskillful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe." They’re babes!" And even in believers, they may have been saved for years and years but they’ve never gotten beyond the baby stage spiritually and so Paul is admonishing them. Hebrews 5:14 
"But strong meat (this adult food, see?) Well, after the rudiments of salvation and we’re babes in Christ, we begin to study the Word, and we begin to understand some of the basics. The Holy Spirit is the One Who opens up an understanding of the Scriptures. Come back to I Corinthians 2 and verse 10. Now I think we have to simply pray and ask God, "Give me understanding. Teach me. I Corinthians 2:10 
"But God hath revealed them (that is, the things that are only for believers to understand) unto us by his (what?) Spirit: for the Spirit (the Holy Spirit) searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God." Alright then come all the way down to verse 13, 
I Corinthians 2:13 
"Which things also we speak, (Paul says) not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, (see? comparing spiritual with spiritual." 
This is why I use as many Scriptures as I possibly can because we have to understand that the Word of God dovetails. Everything fits and we compare Scripture with Scripture. And then verse 14. I Corinthians 2:14 
"But the natural (the unregenerated, the unsaved) man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: (why?)

Hebrews 5:1-14 
Alright, we’re going to go right back into Hebrews chapter 5 and now verse 7. Hebrews 5:7a 
"Who in the days of his flesh, (in other words, his earthly ministry) when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him who was able to save him from death,…" 
Luke 18:31-33 
"Then he took unto him the twelve, and he said unto them, behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets (the Old Testament) concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished. Absolutely! I don’t dare go without reading the next verse. 
Luke 18:34 
Alright, now back to Hebrews chapter 5 and maybe that will help just a little. Sleeping! 
Alright, and so He did, He prayed and made supplication to God the Father from His humanity. "If I wanted to be saved from this, God the Father would send those legions of angels." Hebrews 5:7 
The cup of suffering. Alright, let’s go back to Philippians chapter 2 and we’ve used these verses so often. My, periodically, just in your own devotional time read these verses. Philippians 2:5 
"Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus;" 
Now another verse comes to mind. Romans 12:1 
"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service." 
When I explain salvation by faith and faith alone. By just simply believing that Christ died, was buried and rose again. There has to be a change in lifestyle or there’s not a salvation. Back to Philippians chapter 2, that if we have the mind of Christ, it’s not going to be that satanically driven process. Alright, now verse 6. So the very first word of verse 6 is Christ Jesus of verse 5: 
Philippians 2:6-7a 
"Who being in the form of God, (the visible manifestation of God) thought it not robbery (and if you have a margin, I think the best way is ‘something that he could grasp at’) to be equal with God. What’s a better word? Slave, or bond-slave! Philippians 2:7b 
Now then verse 8, 
Philippians 2:8a 
a man,…" A man! Philippians 2:8a 
Philippians 2:8b 
"…and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross." Now back to our text, and reading verse 8 again. 
Philippians 2:8 
"And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, (and not just an ordinary death of maybe being killed with a sword, or beheaded as Paul was, but something far worse) even the death of the cross." 
Let’s just jump in at verse 17. II Corinthians 5:17 
"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: (or creation. Our old desires, our old appetites, they have to go. Everybody. They’ve still got the old appetites. Reading on, he says in verse 18: 
II Corinthians 5:18 
Now verse 19: 
II Corinthians 5:19 
"To wit, God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; (in other words, because when we become a believer our sin debt is paid)and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation." 
We’re to tell a lost world, we’re to tell lost friends, lost co-workers, "Hey, Christ has already reconciled you if you’ll just believe it." Now verse 20, 
II Corinthians 5:20 
"Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God." Now here’s a verse I came back to read. Verse 21: 
God laid all the sin of the world, including mine, including yours, on Him. God laid all the sins of the world on Christ as He hung on that Cross, see? Alright reading on in this verse: He Who became sin for us, He Who knew no sin. "… that we (as lost hell-bound sinners) might be made the righteousness of God in him." 
Now back to Hebrews again, and verse 8 still in chapter 5. 
Again, you have to remember how we stressed that term Son in the first two chapters of Hebrews. Hebrews 5:8 
Now verse 9, 
Hebrews 5:9 
Now back up a page or two - we covered almost the same identical word "author" in Hebrews chapter 2 verse 10. Hebrews 2:10 
through suffering." 
Christ had to suffer in order to become then the Captain of our salvation, or as it says here, now come back to chapter 5 verse 9, the "author of our salvation." Without the suffering it could have never happened. Now verse 9 again. 
Hebrews 5:9 
"And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;" 
Well what’s another word for obey? 36. For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God fell on sleep, (he died) and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption: 37. But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption. 38. Be it known unto you therefore, my and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: (and here it comes in the next verse) 39.

Philippians 1:28–3:2 
Now as we’ve been coming up through with our study of "Through the Bible" we’ve pretty much been going verse by verse in Paul writings, because you want to remember that Paul is the apostle of the Gentiles. Let’s begin with Phillipians 2:9. 
"Wherefore (because of what we just explained in our last lesson how that Christ was the Eternal, all sufficient Omnipotent God of everything. Consequently wherefore) God (the Triune God) also hath highly exalted him, (God the Son) and given him a name which is above every name:" 
"That at the name of Jesus every knee (from Adam to the last human being ever born) should bow, of things in heaven,..." 
Yes the angels bow to Him because they’re beneath Him. Let’s look at Hebrews chapter 1 for a moment. Hebrews 1:7 
8. But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, (declaring Christ as God again) is forever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom." 
"And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; (He’s the Creator) and the heavens are the works of thine hands: 11. (now verse 13) But to which of the angels said he (God) at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?" 
God the Son. He said it to Christ. And go on over into chapter 2, and verse 5. 
Hebrews 2:5-8a 
"For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, (angels don’t have that kind of power) whereof we speak. 6. But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? 7. Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownest him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands: 8. Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet...." 
Why? Because He’s the God of glory, He’s the creator of everything, and when He humbled Himself and made Himself subjected to the death of the cross, that then set Him up to become even more the God of glory, and the God in whom we can place our trust. Iris, you can be turning to Acts chapter 4, verse 12, but for those of you here in the studio, let’s look at verse 10 and 11. 
Philippians 2:10-11 
Now coming back to Acts chapter 4, verse 12. In fact let’s go up to verse 10 to begin. This of course is Peter up in verse 8, filled with the Holy Spirit. 
"Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him (Christ)doth this man stand here before you whole. (which Israel rejected) 
Now verse 12 which fits so beautifully with Philippians. 
Acts 4:12 
Also always remember there is no other Book except this Bible that can tell the prophecies this Book can. Remember Paul always writes to believers. "For we are labourers together with God: ye (believers) are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building. 10. According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, (the head architect, the head contractor, that’s Paul) I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. Now for you and I as believers we have no problem bowing before the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, whether it’s on our knees in prayer or whether it’s in our mental attitude, we have no problem whatsoever kneeling before the Lord Jesus Christ. 
The great empire builders, they’ll never bow their knee to the carpenter’s Son, but they will someday. Now we know from other Scriptures that the person of God will again be Jesus Christ. Now beginning again with verse 12 again. 
Revelation 20:12 
"And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened..." 
Philippians 2:10-12a 
"That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11. And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. 12. Wherefore,..." 
Because all the sin of the world has been placed on Him, and consequently through the power of resurrection God has raised Him from the dead, and has declared Him to be the greatest name that anyone could ever hope to worship. 
Philippians 2:12a 
Now let’s stop a moment. Philippians 2:12a 
Now reading on in verse 12. 
Philippians 2:12b 
So what does Paul mean when he says, "Work out your own salvation?" Now verse 13, and here is the clue. 
Philippians 2:13 
Now verse 14. 
Philippians 2:14 
"Oh would to God that you’d have left us in Egypt." A lot of times we’re not because we complain, "Why doesn’t God do this or that? Now verse 15. 
Philippians 2:15 
"That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons (children) of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, (now that hits home doesn’t?) among whom ye shine as lights in the world;" 
Because we’ve become such a crooked and perverse nation. Like lights in a darkened world.

Titus 2:13 Declares Jesus Christ as God - Part 2 
Now back to Philippians chapter 2 where we left off in the last lesson in verse 6. 
Philippians 2:6 
"Who, (speaking of Christ in verse 5) being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:" 
Now verse 7. 
Philippians 2:7 
"But (as the Eternal, Holy, Righteous, Omniscient, Sovereign God) made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:" 
Now you want to remember the word servant in the Greek was, "a bond slave." literally a bond salve. Now come back with to Genesis chapter 18 which I usually teach as an event in the Old Testament account, to show us so graphically how God would come down and appear to the Patriarchs in human form. Now verse 1 of Genesis chapter 18. 
Genesis 18:1-2 
Now men have always looked like men. Men have always looked like men. Now verse 3. 
Genesis 18:3-4 
"And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant: 4. Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, (ordinary human feet) and rest yourselves under the tree:" And for sake of time let’s come on down to verse 8. 
Genesis 18:8 
All three ate, but who are these three people? Little did he know that one of them would be Jehovah God Himself. Well I’ll tell you what kind of a man He was, He was God! He never, never, stopped being God! In the womb of Mary He was still God! As a little child playing on the streets of Nazareth, and in the carpenter shop, He was God! As He confounded the doctors at the age of 12 there at the temple, He was God! So never lose sight of that. Now verse 8. 
Philippians 2:8a 
"And being found in fashion as a man, (from all outward appearances, and His daily activity, not a higher echelon man, but rather a lower echelon man. "Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man (see, Peter doesn’t call Him the God-man) approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God (in His whole triune being of course) did by him in the midst of you, (up and down the towns and villages of Israel) as ye yourselves also know: (most of them had seen at least some of those miracles) 23. Him, (Jesus of Nazareth) being delivered (up to the cross) by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, (God had programmed all of this. God had drawn the blueprint, that when men would sin, He would provide a Redeemer, and that Redeemer would have to go to a Roman cross) ye (Israel) have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:" 
So that was all in the foreknowledge of God. Now coming back to Philippians chapter 2 again. Now verse 8 again. I’m going to spend the rest of this lesson on that verse. 
Philippians 2:8 
"And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became (again because of His own volition) obedient unto death (not just an ordinary death) even the death of the cross." 
When Christ died on that Roman cross every sin of the whole human race from Adam until the last person before we go to eternity was laid on Him. Now imagine all the horrible sins and guilt of a Hitler was laid on Christ. Every sin, thought, and deed of a man like Nero was laid on Him. Every wicked person that you can ever conger up in your mind, every sin, was laid on Him, on that cross. There has never been another individual that could have ever come close to taking every sin of every human being and have that sin put on him, and this is what we have to understand. God, up in verse 20 is the point of reference here. 
who knew no sin: (of course not for He was God, He was sinless, and for what purpose?) that we might be made the righteousness of God in him." 
Isaiah 52:13-14 
As many were astonied at thee; his visage (His outward appearance) was so marred (or disfigured) more than any man, and his form (His whole bodily appearance was so disfigured) more than the sons of men;" (more than anyone in human history) 
That Christ was obedient to death, not just a death of taking away His life or an ordinary crucifixion, but when it says, "even the death of the cross." You have to have a sin barrier, because we can’t take our sin into glory, and eternity, it has to have been dealt with, and it was at Calvary! Romans 5:20 
"Moreover the law entered, that the offence (or sin) might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:" 
So no matter how hideous the sinner, or how heavy his sin load is, it’s all been laid on Christ, even the death of the cross.

Now you want to remember the word servant in the Greek was, "a bond slave." literally a bond salve. Now come back with to Genesis chapter 18 which I usually teach as an event in the Old Testament account, to show us so graphically how God would come down and appear to the Patriarchs in human form. Now verse 1 of Genesis chapter 18.

Philippians 1:28–3:2 
Paul’s salvation message to the Gentile Body of Christ is found in I Corinthians 15:1-4. and Romans 10:9-10, and looks nothing like the salvation message preached by Peter. 
Where everything that Paul writes concerns the resurrected Lord. And after our Lord ascended to His place in glory He revealed all the mysteries to this apostle for the Body of Christ in this Age of Grace. So consequently his message is pretty much to the Gentile world, and especially to the Gentile believers of the Body of Christ. 
Don’t try to force part of Peter’s message into Paul’s message or vice-a-versa. Don’t try to force something in Scripture that the Lord Himself didn’t force. So to make things simple, just keep Paul’s writings to the Church Age believers separate from the rest of Scripture for your Christian walk and doctrine. Now coming back to our study in Philippians chapter 2, and let’s start with verse 16. In verse 15 we finished with Paul telling us that we are in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation. Now verse 16. 
Philippians 2:16 
" Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain." 
Now of course we covered this several programs back, "The day of Christ is the end of the Church Age when Christ will come for His bride, the Body of Christ and meet us in the air." More and more are teaching that the Church will go into or through it, but always remember our best argument is, "That you cannot mix Law and Grace, You can not mix Israel and the Body of Christ, the Church," 
So remember before God can pick up and finish His last seven years with the nation of Israel, the Gentile Church, the Body of Christ has to be removed, and consequently then that’s what we call the day of Christ, when we’re called up to Him and go back into glory. 
The indwelling Holy Spirit which is the down payment of a believer, and that also can be found only in Paul’s writing, and all these other glorious mysteries concerning the Body of Christ that were given to Paul only, then it follows that all the aspects of the Church Age having come from the writings of Paul then the end of the Church would also be in Paul’s writings, and indeed it does in I Corinthians 15:51-58 and I Thessalonians 4:13-18. No where else is the Rapture of the Church foretold. Philippians 2:16 
"Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, (Paul really thought that he would live to see the day when Christ would return and take the Church out) that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain." 
"Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all." 
He could joy and rejoice because of all that God had done throughout the Roman Empire, but especially when he was seeing the Roman guards and people in the palace coming to a knowledge of salvation through his Gospel and Christ. Now verse 18. 
Philippians 2:18 
"For the same cause also do ye joy, and rejoice with me." 
Almost everyday we get a letter where someone has come to know the Lord or has led someone to the Lord. Philippians 2:19 
Epaphroditus had ministered to Paul’s needs in Rome, and the poor fellow must have just about died of some kind of an illness or something. 
Now verse 27.

Philippians 3:1a 
"Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord...." 
In spite of the persecution, and the constant pressure that was on all the Gentile believers, as well as Paul in prison. Now when I say Gentile believers, you always have to remember that the Judaisers hated Christianity. The Jewish people were fighting Paul’s little Churches tooth and nail, because it was a complete change of direction from Judaism, and that’s what Grace and Law are. So Paul says, "in spite of all these circumstances rejoice! 
Philippians 3:1-2 
"Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. 2. Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision." 
Nothings changed. II Peter 2:1-2a 
Alright, the word pernicious is appropriate here, because that’s exactly what false teachers are going to do with the teachings that these believers are resting on. II Peter 2:2 
The truth is not well spoken of today, because people don’t want the truth. Now verse 3. 
II Peter 2:3 
Well let’s drop on down to verse 12. II Peter 2:12-13a 
Now back to Philippians chapter 3, verse 2 again. 
Philippians 3:2 
"Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision." 
This passage is dealing with the Gentile congregation up at Antioch. 
Acts 15:1 
"And certain men which came down from Judaea (the believing Jerusalem assembly) taught the brethren, (these Gentile believers) and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved." 
Now you see why you’ve got to separate Peter and Paul?

"…when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;" 
That it was finished. Right. Oh, that the finished work of cross took care of everything. Hebrews 4:14-15b 
"…we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. Now the three categories of temptations that cover every possible scenario of the human experience can be found in the little book of I John chapter 2. Now we did this way back when poor old Eve was caught in temptations in Genesis chapter 3. "Love not the world, (in other words this world system) neither the things that are in the world.(or materialism). If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. (now here’s the world) 16. Genesis 3:6a 
eyes,…" 
It was a beautiful fruit. Genesis 3:6b 
The pride. Pride that it would make her wise, and remember that Satan’s temptation was that she could be as God. Hungry. I haven’t lost my wife." 
You can’t really understand the feelings that people are going through unless you’ve been there. Let’s even go a little further with this thought. Hebrews 4:16a 
Romans 8:1 
"There is therefore (that’s right, I see you’re already wording it. It’s FAITH + NOTHING! It’s Faith + nothing. But be sure it’s faith in the right place. It’s faith in that finished work of the cross, that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and rose from again, + nothing else. Alright, now then, verse 16 of Hebrews chapter 4 again. 
Hebrews 4:16 
Hebrews 4:16b 
"…come boldly unto the throne of grace,…" 
Do you know what that word boldly means? We go into the throne room without any apology. I don’t have to say, "Well now Lord here I am. Now if I didn’t have this great a salvation, I couldn’t go boldly into God’s presence, but I can with anything that I want to approach Him with. 
Other days they’ll just walk into that chute like docile little teddy bears, so I have no compunction going right into the throne room and saying, "Now Lord make it a little easier on us today." 
Alright, Oh what a precious verse we have here. The One Who has faced every temptation that we face and consequently then, therefore, we can come boldly without any qualifications on our part to the throne of Grace. 
What’s Grace? Unmerited favor! There’s no reason God should say, "Well come on in boldly and share your needs, share your joys, share your sorrows, I’ve got an open ear." Except Grace. Oh how God loves to be gracious, how He loves to just pour out all of His goodness. 
"Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." 
Alright, so we come into the throne of Grace that we may obtain mercy. Mercy. Even under Law, what made it possible for a Jew to get right standing with God? His Grace! Time after time, what did God have every right and reason to do with Israel? No, we don’t deserve it, any more than any other group of people. But, oh, we’ve been enjoying it now for several hundred years because of God’s mercy and grace. 
Exodus 33:19 
God in His Sovereignty can show mercy to whomever He will. Finished. We are not boldly coming into the throne room of grace because I gave 20% of my income. I don’t come boldly into the throne room because I’m such a good guy. The mercy and the Grace of God. Not one of us can go into that throne room and say Lord I’m here because I deserve it. All the time. That’s all the time. There isn’t a moment that we don’t need the grace and the mercy of God especially in the world in which we’re living today. Philippians chapter 4. What a basis for prayer. 
God doesn’t limit. Now there are some people that say God doesn’t listen to anything unless it’s spiritual. God listens to your every legitimate need. Now we’re not going to be frivolous, or silly when we come into God’s presence. Does God not know what you need? God wants us to talk to Him, God wants us to commune with Him. Philippians 4:7 
"And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." 
That peace of God. Not the peace with God. You got that when you were saved but rather the peace of God. But now as a believer you come into the throne room boldly and you share all your needs and your desires of your heart and whether God says yes, no, maybe or later - but whatever the answer, you have that peace of God that passeth all understanding.

Hebrews 4:12-16 
All right, now then we go into the verse. 
Alright, now that’s the way the Word of God is. It just simply puts God’s powerful spotlight on everything, and so he says: 
Now, never forget that Paul is constantly referring in the book of Hebrews to the living God. We’re not worshiping some man-concocted idea, but we are literally aware of, and worshiping, and are saved by, a living creator God. 
Here in Psalms 139, David just puts it so beautifully and like I said, I’m going to let the Word of God speak for itself. "I so enjoy your reading program." I read and let the Word speak for itself. Psalm 139:1 
"O Lord, thou hast searched me, and (what’s the next word?) There’s not a part of us that God doesn’t know. God isn’t dealing with millions and millions of people. Personally, as an individual man. 
"Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off." 
Our thought! Praise the Lord! We do have thoughts like that, but as long as we don’t stop and dwell on them, I don’t think God holds us responsible. Now verse 3. 
There’s not a moment in your time of living that God isn’t completely around you. David was a believer. So this is the assurance that we have, that God is that aware of us as an individual. Now verse 4. 
Psalms 139:4 
There is not a word that God isn’t aware of. Psalms 139:5 
Psalms 139:6-7 
"Such knowledge (what knowledge? That he is an individual in God’s sight and that God knows everything about him, the individual, such knowledge) is too wonderful for me; (it’s beyond understanding, it is too wonderful for me) it is high, I cannot attain unto it. 7. Whither shall I go from thy spirit? Alright now verse 8. 
Psalms 139-8 
"If (now that’s a conditional word, doesn’t say that he does, but if it were possible) I could ascend up into heaven, thou are there: (well that’s not too hard to comprehend) if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there." 
Now verse 9. 
Psalms 139:9-10 
There’s not a place on this earth where you could go beyond the hand of God upon you. Not a place. Now verse 11. 
Psalms 139:11 
"If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me." In other words, darkness doesn’t stop God. The thickest, darkest night doesn’t keep God from seeing. Now verse 12 
Psalms 139:12 
So darkness doesn’t make any difference to God. Now verse 13. 
Psalms 139:13 
"For thou hast possessed my reins; (in other words, the desires of his life) thou hast covered me (where?) in my mother’s womb." 
When does God pick up interest in us as an individual? Paul says that God saved me by His Grace, from where? Alright reading on. 
Psalms 139:14a 
Just beyond human comprehension of how complex it is and yet God is aware of every little detail. Now verse 15. 
Psalms 139:15-16 
Now verse 17. 
Psalms 139:17 
"How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! Now you want to remember, David, according to Scripture "was a man after God’s own heart." Psalms 139:18 
19. Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: (now of course remember this is in the Old Testament economy) depart from me therefore, ye bloody men." Now verse 20. 
Psalms 139:20 
"For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain." 
Never lose sight of it. Nothing happens that God isn’t aware of it. Paul is great on that. Hebrews 4:14a 
passed into the heavens,…" 
Now you remember when we first started way back in Genesis 1:1, in the beginning God created heaven and earth, and way back then already I pointed out that through all of Scripture God deals in two realms. Israel was God’s earthly people, and we are His heavenly. Up until that time, all worship, all concerns of the Word of God were primarily centered in Jerusalem, weren’t they? Heaven. Come back to Ephesians, the little Book of Ephesians, in chapter 1, verse 3. 
Ephesians 1:3 
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings (where?) in heavenly places…" 
The heavenlies. Colossians 1:12-13 
In heaven. Alright, now let’s back up a page to Philippians chapter 3 verse 20. "For our conversation (or citizenship is a better word, for our citizenship is where) is in heaven; from whence we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:" 
We’re much closer to our Lord’s coming than Paul was. Remember that? So remember "our citizenship is in heaven from whence we look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ:" 
Never lose sight of that. Well anyway, the few moments we have left, let’s get back to Hebrews 4. 
Jesus the Son of God. You can work from now till doomsday and you’re never going to work your way into heaven. But our confession is this Jesus the Christ Who has passed into the heavens, Who is the Son of God. Hebrews 4:15 
We have a high priest who can be touched with our infirmities.

Back to Hebrews, chapter 4 and verse 4. Hebrews 4:4-5 
"For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest (and that’s the word we’re really looking at. God rested) the seventh day from all his works. 5. And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest." 
Rest. Now if you’re resting, and I’ll just use a simple childlike illustration. Rest. God has said it’s finished and we don’t have to sweat and work and try to do this and do that. We just rest in it. I’m talking about the salvation experience. Rest was rejected because of unbelief but on the other hand a picture of what rest really can be for the believer. Oh, we can just revel in the fact that we don’t have to work, work, work, work for salvation, as that’s all been done. It’s finished. 
You’ve got to fulfill this obligation; you’ve got to fulfill that obligation. Hebrews 4:5b 
"…If they shall enter into my rest." 
By faith and faith alone, plus nothing, because it’s finished. Come back to Hebrews chapter 1 verse 3. Alright, we were speaking of the Son back in verse 2. Now verse 3. 
Hebrews 1:3 
"Who being the brightness of his glory, (He was God from the beginning, from eternity past. He was God in the flesh. He, as God took the sins of the world upon Himself. It’s finished. I’ll never comprehend it. There is no way that I can understand all that God poured out first from the wrath side on God the Son who became the epitome of sin itself. Mercy. How can mortal man comprehend that? God, you did it, you said it, it’s complete, it’s finished. I’m resting. Listen, never do these verses that list conditions deal with the believer. It’s talking to these people who were on the fence. You cannot leave one foot in religion of whatever sort it is and have the other foot in the Grace of God and be accepted. It won’t work. "Well God you didn’t really finish it." And God won’t have it. No little puny mortal man is going to tell God that he didn’t quite finish the job. 
Alright, let’s come back to chapter 4, and let’s come on down to verse 6. 
Hebrews 4:6 
Well, we’re talking about Israel at Kadesh. God had had those Canaanites working 400 years like bees getting everything ready. Unbelief.! 
How many people ever look at them? We’re a nation tonight of total unbelief. Unbelief. America no longer believes this Book. America scoffs at everything this Book says anymore. Because there comes a time when God says, "I’ve had it!" and so, here’s the text. Now verse 7. 
Hebrews 4:7a 
Now if you think I repeat, I don’t hold a candle to this Book, because it’s always repeating and repeating and repeating. Hebrews 4:7b 
Alright read on. Today) if you will hear his voice, harden not your hearts." 
Hardened his own heart. God didn’t harden it. Now I also said God never gives up, of course not. Alright now then verse 8. 
Hebrews 4:8a 
"For if Jesus…" 
Joshua now is going to bring the Nation of Israel in from the East of Jordan. And as Joshua leads the nation into Canaan, what’s the scenario? Is it a life of ease and rest like Canaan would have been? So what is the Christian life? It’s a constant battle. It’s a constant working to maintain our Christian experience. You’ve got the land of Canaan pictured as a place of total rest, a finished work, and Christ sat down because it was finished. Positionally, we’re in the place of rest, experientially, we’re in a constant battle. Alright let’s go on with verse 8 repeating. 
Hebrews 4:8 
"For if Joshua had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day." 
My goodness, you go back and read the Book of Joshua and go on into the Book of Judges - I thank God that I wasn’t living in those days. There wasn’t any rest associated with that. Even though God did that one without lifting a sword, yet that was just the beginning of having to gain the land of Canaan, city by city, tribe by tribe, and they never did get to the place where they had total rest, and so that’s what the verse meant. Hebrews 4:9 
"There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God." 
Come out from that legalism and come into the rest that only God’s Grace can offer." Now then verse 11 may be a verse that throws a curve at a few people. They say, "Well, see, that shows you’ve got to work for your salvation." Hebrews 4:11 
"Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall (not out of salvation, but never having attained it) after the same example of (what?) unbelief." Unbelief. I Peter 1:10 
Well it didn’t mean that you did physical work for somehow appeasing a Holy God. The Scripture says labor to enter into that rest. Not by doing something for salvation but make work of studying the Scripture. "Eternal life."

Hebrews 4:2a 
"For unto us (that is now in the Age of Grace under Paul’s Gospel) the gospel was preached, as well as unto them:" 
In other words, all the way up through human history, God has been offering salvation. It’s always by faith. Hebrews 4:2b 
faith in them that heard it." 
Faith! Faith. We can show from the Scriptures how it’s so simple that you just simply say, "Yes God I believe it with all my heart," and expect God to respond and he will. 
II Corinthians chapter 5, verse 17. And he read this verse to that huge congregation at his Sunday morning service. All right, listen to what he read. 
II Corinthians 5:17 
Our churches are full of unsaved church members. Oh, they’re "Christian," quote unquote, but they’re not in Christ. We’re talking about one who is not resting on self, one who is not resting on his denomination, one who is not resting on his local church. He’s not resting on his good works, he’s not resting on how much money he gives, he’s not resting on anything that he can do in the flesh, but rather he’s resting only on that finished work of the Cross. Come back to Hebrews chapter 11. The great faith chapter. The whole chapter epitomizes the word Faith. Starting with verse 1 of Hebrews 11. 
Hebrews 11:1 
"Now faith (taking God at his Word) is the substance (what is substance? The only way you can comprehend it is by faith and don’t ever lose sight of my definition of faith. What? Taking God at his Word! Don’t believe what I say, believe what God says. Next verse. 
Hebrews 11:2 
"For by it (faith) the elders obtained a good report." Now verse 3. 
Hebrews 11:3a 
the word of God,…" 
A spoken word. God spoke and the universe came into being. God spoke and the dust came up out of the earth and formed Adam. God didn’t have to go and get putty and clay and glue. By faith. I can’t prove that that’s what God did. Hebrews 11:3b 
Well, God spoke and out of nothing and here it came. Well I’ll bet Buddha couldn’t, and I’ll bet none of the other big religious gurus could, but our God did, because we serve the Living God. And so it’s by faith. Now verse 4. 
Hebrews 4:4a 
"By faith (by taking God at his word) Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain,…" 
Abel simply did what God said to do, but Cain rationalized and said, "Now wait a minute, God didn’t really mean that. Surely God will accept me if he sees that I’ve done this by the sweat of my brow and I’ve gotten dirt under my nails," but what did Cain not understand? That’s not what God said to do. God told him to bring an animal sacrifice and shed blood and so he was rejected because he didn’t do that. But on the other hand, Abel by his faith did what God said to do, as he brought the lamb, he brought the sacrifice, he shed its blood and God accepted it. God had told him, and he believed Him, and that’s faith. Alright, now moving on down to verse 5. 
Hebrews 4:5a 
"By faith (the man) Enoch (walked with God and he) was translated that he should not see death;…" 
Alright, now the next one in verse 6. It’s one of the verses that I call one of the absolutes of Scripture. Hebrews 4:6a 
"But without faith it is impossible to please him;…" (God) 
That’s an absolute! Hebrews 9:22b 
There is no salvation without the shedding of blood! The blood of Christ. Alright, let’s read on in Hebrews. This is just a good exercise in Faith. Now verse 7. 
Hebrews 11:7a 
"By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not see as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark…" 
Hebrews 11:8 
"Without Faith it’s impossible to please God." Hebrews 4:3a 
Now remember the Canaan rest, the rest of the Promised Land is not a picture of heaven. God had said it, they responded to it, they could have entered in and they could have a rest. It’s not a picture of heaven, but it is a picture for us of our salvation rest. That when we enter in by faith, when we enter in because of the shed blood, what can we do? Rest in it. Now let’s read some more of verse 3. 
(now I’ve got to go into verse 4) For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works." 
Come back to Genesis chapter 1 the last verse. Genesis 1 verse 31. All of creation is now finished. Genesis 1:31a 
Now let’s jump up into chapter 2 verse 1. 
2. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made;…" Rest. It is finished:" 
Just as surely as the universe and the Garden of Eden and everything in it was perfect and God rested, so also when He finished that work of the cross.

In other words, all the way up through human history, God has been offering salvation. It’s always by faith. Hebrews 4:2b
faith in them that heard it."
Faith! Faith. We can show from the Scriptures how it’s so simple that you just simply say, "Yes God I believe it with all my heart," and expect God to respond and he will.
II Corinthians chapter 5, verse 17. And he read this verse to that huge congregation at his Sunday morning service. All right, listen to what he read.

Our churches are full of unsaved church members. Oh, they’re "Christian," quote unquote, but they’re not in Christ. We’re talking about one who is not resting on self, one who is not resting on his denomination, one who is not resting on his local church. He’s not

It’s not limited to any one class of people but it’s for the whosoever will! Now verse 15 again. 
Hebrews 3:15-16a 
Alright, so let’s finish the verse: 
Hebrews 3:16b-17a 
Unbelief! Now you see for people today, unbelief is not going to be forty years, it’s going to be eternity lost and with no hope. Alright, so here is the warning. 
Hebrews 3:15b-17a 
"…To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. It wasn’t the calf, the golden calf at Sinai. Unbelief! God said they could take it and they said what? God told Adam and Eve in simplistic terms, "Don’t eat of that tree." It was their unbelief, but what prompted their unbelief? They’ve got the same old Adamic nature as we do, and that old Adamic nature is lawless, and so it precipitated their unbelief. Now of all these children of Israel who came out of Egypt under Moses’ leadership, as they walked through that Red Sea, did any of them stay behind and say, "Well, I’m scared to death the water will come crashing down." Faith! 
So that Red Sea must have opened, I think, miles. Faith. Were all those Israelites lost? Because even in Israel’s history when the nation, for the most part, was going down the tube and they were succumbing to idolatry. Even though we have a percentage as Abraham had when he bargained with God over Sodom and Gomorrah. What did Abraham say? "Now, Lord if there’s ten in Sodom, would you spare it?" Send us back to Egypt. Don’t forget what can happen to people when their hearts are hardened by unbelief, and when they can no longer trust the Word of God. We have been singularly blessed as a nation. No other nation on earth has enjoyed the Spiritual and material blessings that we have in America. But does that mean that God will never, never change blessing us? I think the day is coming when God is going to have to come up and judge America for the responsibilities that we have walked under foot. 
Hebrews 3:17a 
Hebrews 3:17b-18 
It just repeats unbelief and repeats it and repeats it! The biggest tragedy for Israel, as well as for the human race in general, is unbelief. God says it and He expects us to believe it. Let’s see what Peter even calls it. In II Peter, chapter 1. 
II Peter 1:15-16a 
II Peter 1:16b-17 
Now you remember, that was on the Mount of Transfiguration when Peter, James and John were met with Moses and Elijah. And God spoke from Heaven. Alright now verse 18. Peter says, "This voice which came from Heaven, we heard!" Proof positive that God is real. He is the Living God as we saw earlier. 
II Peter 1:18-19 
(The Mount of Transfiguration. We can believe them and we don’t have to doubt them because we understand that God has proven Himself over and over by fulfilling prophetic statements. Now verse 20. 
II Peter 1:20 
You have to compare Scripture with Scripture. II Peter 1:21 
"For the prophecy (the Word of God,) came not in old time by the will of man: (they didn’t sit around a campfire and concoct these things.) but holy (or set apart) men of God spake as they were moved (or inspired) by the Holy Ghost." 
That’s how our Book came together. This is not cunningly devised fables. It is the Word of God and consequently God expects us to believe it. Faith! Alright now, Abraham is just the opposite. Now verse 1 of chapter 4 of Romans. 
Romans 4:1-2 
2. For if Abraham were justified by works, (see that is what all religion demands. Religion will always give you a set of works) he hath whereof to glory; but not before God." Now verse 3. 
Romans 4:3a 
(What does the Word of God say? The Word of God says) Abraham believed God,…" 
All Abraham did was took God at his Word, plus nothing! He believed God. Romans 4:3b 
God declared him righteous because he could believe. The moment a sinner believes, God accounts him as righteous. But, at the same time God empowers him to live righteously. Verse 4. 
Romans 4:4a 
I’m putting God in debt to me!" Now, if somebody owes you, he’s in debt. Romans 4:5a 
Israel at Kadesh, how much were they going to have to do to enjoy the Promised Land? Nothing! Just walk in and enjoy it. Romans 4:5 
Alright, chapter 3 again verse 19. Hebrews 3:19 
So then, they entered not because of unbelief. Unbelief. Now you see had they been able to believe God and if they would have gone in as a nation of believers, do you see what God could have done? Let’s look at the Nation of Israel with a second opportunity and that was when Christ came in His first advent. The Nation could have had everything.

My, it thrills our heart to see so many lost people coming to a knowledge of salvation but many, many more believers who have never had an understanding of the Scriptures are finally getting their eyes opened. 
Alright, let’s go right back to Hebrews chapter 3. (I Corinthians 15:1-4) Hebrews 3:13 
Now if you doubt when I call Judaism a religious system, back up with me to the Book of Galatians chapter 1, where the Apostle Paul is reviewing his own past. Let’s just start at verse 11. Galatians 1:11-13 
Now consequently when I come down to verse 14, I am going to use the little word, "if." It’s not a matter of their being saved and then lost. Hebrews 3:13 
Now verse 14. 
Hebrews 3:14a 
"For we are made partakers of Christ,…" I Corinthians 12:12 
"For as the body (or human body) is one, and hath many members. I Corinthians 12:13a 
Not just some who have had a particular experience, but every believer is) baptized (or placed into) one body, (which Ephesians calls the body of Christ.) 
That composition of believers from wherever they are, whatever their station in life, at salvation they are brought in and become part and parcel of the body of Christ. Alright, so here we are placed into the body by the work of the Holy Spirit: 
The human body as well as the body of Christ is not one member but many. And so, the whole analogy of the rest of this chapter is that God is building the body of Christ, individual by individual, placing them where He wants them. Alright, so is the body of Christ. 
Now for 1,900 and some years God has been bringing them into the body one at a time. Kernels! Alright, so is the body of Christ. We’ve never lost our individuality. And God knows every one of us as an individual and yet the composite is the body of Christ will one day be complete. The body of Christ has to be taken out, and it will be. Because Paul alone, tells us about the forming of the body of Christ. Paul alone tells us how the body is to function in this world. That the body of Christ is being formed because as we became believers of the Gospel, we became partakers or companions of Christ by virtue of the fact that the Holy Spirit has placed us into the body. We are members of the body of Christ. Alright, back to Hebrews: 
Hebrews 3:14a 
if"…" 
Oh, that scares so many people. Doesn’t that mean that if I do something particularly wrong that I will lose my Salvation?" It doesn’t say it is impossible if they have been saved. Now, I have had the same problem, especially with people in cults, as we call them. Don’t ever get the idea that we are talking about Hebrews who were saved and lost. Or that IF they can hang on they will still be saved. No, the IF is, have you really been saved? Yes, this if is a big IF for you if you have never been saved. 
Hebrews 3:14 
Not what we do, but think of all that God does the moment He saves us and sees our faith. Can God undo all of that? God WILL not! Or He wouldn’t be the God of His Word. 
And so, the whole IF problem is, have they been genuinely saved, or have they merely tasted. Alright, so let’s go on to verse 15. 
Hebrews 3:15a 
What hardens hearts? Sin! Satan. Let me show you in II Corinthians, chapter 4, and let’s just look at verses 3 and 4: 
Faith! See? Now reading verse 4 again. 
II Corinthians 4:4 
"In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the visible image of the invisible God, should shine unto them." 
So who keeps people in their darkness. Alright, back to Hebrews chapter 3, and verse 15 again, and then I want to come back to Romans again. 
Hebrews 3:15a 
Alright, how do we hear the voice of God? Well, Romans, chapter 10 tells us. Starting at verse 13. 
Romans 10:1314a 
shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Now verse 15. 
Well, God. The Holy Spirit, see?) Now, remember, when Abraham believed God, He didn’t believe the Gospel as we understand it. Alright, now then, verse 17. Romans 10:17 
"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." 
So by faith, or just, taking God at His Word comes by hearing. Alright, so verse 17 again. 
Romans 10:17 
"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." 
And it’s only the Word of God that can bring salvation to the human race. Now analyze that verse. Matthew 16 verse 16. 
Matthew 16:16-17. 
"And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou are the Christ, the Son of the Living God. (now look what Jesus said in verse 17.) God opened his understanding! See? God did! And so never forget that faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God!

We’ve lost our faith! Well here is the lesson for us now from Israel’s experience going into the Promised Land. 
Now during break time, I just drew a make shift map of Israel and a lot of people think that the Promised Land is just this little neck between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan Valley. Now coming into Exodus chapter 23, and verse 25. 
Exodus 23:25-27 
"And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee. Now verse 28. God says: 
Exodus 23:28a 
God said, "I’ll send hornets and just drive them out!" Now let’s read on. 
30. By little and little I will drive them out from before thee, until thou be increased, and inherit the land." (my what a promise God made. Exodus 23:32 
"Thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor with their gods. 33. They shall not dwell in thy land, lest they make thee sin against me: for if thou serve their gods, it will surely be a snare unto thee." 
Deuteronomy 1:2 
"(There are eleven days’ journey from Horeb (Mount Sinai) by the way of Mount Seir unto Kadesh-barnea." Now verse 3. 
Deuteronomy 1:3-5 
Deuteronomy 1:6 
"The LORD our God spake unto us in Horeb, (at Mount Sinai after they had received their instructions for the tabernacle) saying, ye have dwelt long enough in this mount: 7. Turn you, and take your journey, and go to the mount of the Amorites, and unto all the places nigh thereunto, in the plain, in the hills, and in the vale, and in the south, and by the sea side, to the land of the Canaanites, and unto Lebanon, (which is up toward Mount Herman on my map) unto the great river, the river Euphrates." 
No, this is what God deeded to them here in Genesis 15, and let’s begin with verse 18. 
Genesis 15:18 
"In the same day (that God came down and fulfilled a title deed with Abraham) the LORD made a covenant with Abram, (Abraham) saying, Unto thy seed (his offspring, his generations down the road) have I given this land, (we’re not talking about something spiritual, bur rather good old physical earth) from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the River Euphrates:" 
God has given them everything from the River of Egypt, and I don’t think it’s the Nile. I think there was another river east of the Nile that sort of disappeared over time - but whatever, it was the River of Egypt all along the Mediterranean, up to the River Euphrates, and back to the Red Sea. Deuteronomy 1:8 
"Behold, I have set the land before you: (the Promised Land God has prepared through the sweat and tears of the Canaanites) go in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them." 
As long as they were obedient, God would bless them, and my, it was as promised, the Promised Land, and everything was waiting for them. Now read on in verse 18. 
Deuteronomy 1:18 
Now verse 19. 
Deuteronomy 1:19 
Deuteronomy 1:20-21 
"And I said unto you, Ye are come unto the mountain of the Amorites, which the LORD our God doth give unto us. 21. Behold, the LORD thy God hath set the land before thee: go up and possess it, as the LORD God of thy father hath said unto thee; fear not, neither be discouraged." 
What did neither God or Moses tell the children of Israel? God or Moses hadn’t said a word about sending spies to see if they can do it. You see that’s unbelief, but that exactly what Israel did, and that’s where God’s anger began. 
Deuteronomy 1:22 
Deuteronomy 1:23-25a 
Now, today we’re seeing the land of Israel blossoming like a rose. Deuteronomy 1:25-28a 
"And they took of the fruit of the land in their hands, and brought it down unto us, and brought us word again, and said, It is a good land which the LORD our God doth give us. 26. Notwithstanding ye would not go up, (remember Moses is rehearsing all this) but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God:" They rebelled! So here’s Israel with the truth of God in front of them, but they would rather believe the lie of ten men. Now, let’s just keep going with verse 29. 
Deuteronomy 1:29 
So Moses is saying, "The same God that brought you out of Egypt by opening the Red Sea - and if He could open the Red Sea, He could certainly drive out Canaanites. Now verse 31. 
Deuteronomy 1:31 
"And in the wilderness, where thou hast seen how that the LORD thy God bare thee, as a man doth bear his son, in all the way that ye went, until ye came into this place." Deuteronomy 1:32 
"Yet in this thing ye did not believe the LORD your God,"

Remember, the God that we are speaking of here is the Man, Christ Jesus. Now verse 5. 
Hebrews, 3:5 
Verse 15. 
Deuteronomy 18:15 
"The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;" Moses is writing from his own position as the leader of Israel, but he is speaking of this future One. 
Deuteronomy 18:16-18 
17. And the LORD (Moses said) said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken. Come back to Hebrews chapter 3. So, Moses was a faithful servant in everything that God had committed unto him. 
Hebrews 3:6 
Moses on the one hand and Christ on the other and how Moses just pales by comparison to the role of God the Son) as a son over his own house; (Moses was a servant of the Almighty Creator, so he couldn’t say that this is "my" house. What is the lesson? We are talking about something Spiritual. We are talking about a house being built in the heavens, for eternity! So as ason over his own house, whose house we are! I Corinthians 3:9 
"For we are labourers together with God: (See that? We are a part and parcel of God’s building, the rest of the verse says it!) ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building." 
We are a part of that which God is building for eternity! And, it is not wood, hay and stubble or gold, silver and precious stones, although those are used as examples of our building materials only to show that as we are laboring in this process of building the building that our labor is set up for rewards. So we are God’s husbandry, we are God’s building, but only in the effect that as a part of this building, we are now contributing to it with our works. I Corinthians 3:12 
"Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;" 
If anything fire would enhance it. You can do ever so much and if your motivation is wrong it counts but wood, hay and stubble. 
Now, if she was going to bake these pies to bring glory to the Lord! If you give to whatever it is, your church or anything else, and you are doing it to bring God the glory, then yes, it will be gold, silver and precious stones! What’s your purpose? And, if your purpose is honorable in bringing glory to the Lord, it is gold, silver and precious stones. If the only reason you are doing it is to impress somebody else, it’s nothing but wood, hay and stubble! Hebrews 3:6 
"But Christ as a son (or THE Son, the Preeminent One) over his own house; (that He’s building for eternity) whose house are we, (Now, I know that a lot of people like to take a verse like this and say IF we hang on. Well, I don’t think Paul ever uses that kind of language to impart that thinking, that IF we hang on and IF we have done enough. Unbelief! If you know that you are saying something that is absolute truth. When the God of Glory, the God of Creation, the God Who knows nothing BUT Truth has said something in His Word and puny men come along and say, "I don’t believe it." Do you think God’s going to take that lightly? Let’s go back and read Hebrews chapter 3, verse 7 on down. 
Hebrews 3:7-10a 
"Wherefore ( as the Holy Ghost (Spirit) saith, Today if ye will hear his voice, (If we are going to hear what God says, what is He going to expect? There at Mt. Sinai God gave Moses the Law. Unbelief! Well, here it goes, Exodus chapter 23 verse 20. The Lord is speaking to Moses. God is already telling them what is waiting for them! 
Exodus 23:20a 
It’s God the Son again! Who is speaking? God the Son! God the Son! You have to remember that all through Scripture, God the Son can speak to God the Father but what are they? Well, now he is speaking from His humanity and indeed He can address God the Father as His Father. To God!! So, don’t let that throw you - sometimes God the Son speaks concerning Himself. 
Exodus 23:20b 
The Promised Land! Then after that 400-year hiatus, the Canaanites had gotten so filthy, rotten, wicked that God could just push them out and let Israel enjoy the works of their 400 years of getting the land ready. Let’s read on in Exodus. 
Exodus 23:21 
Verse 22. 
Exodus 23:22 
"But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries." 
Israel is God’s earthly people! Earthly! How’s God going to do it? 
Exodus 23:23 
God says, I will destroy them! Verse 24 is giving them warning. Exodus 23:24 
Verse 25. 
Exodus 23:25 
"And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless they bread, and thy water; (What does that speak of? Material blessings! Exodus 23:26

Hebrews 2:10-17 
Let’s get right back into the Book. Hebrews 2:15-16 
Now, stop and think for a moment, how easy it would have been for Christ to become the man, the Son of God in the form of an angel, because after all, there are myriads of angels. It all really began, so far as Abraham is concerned, in Genesis chapter 12. Genesis 12 verses 1, 2 and 3. The Abrahamic Covenant. 
Genesis 12: 1 
"Now the LORD (remember the word Lord in the Old Testament is actually Jehovah and Jehovah and Christ are One and the same. Jehovah is his Old Testament term but it is still God the Son. It’s the One we know as the Lord Jesus Christ.) had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:" 
It always helps to understand background. God now is going to do something totally different. Alright, verse 2. Here comes the Covenant, this is the promise from God to Abram. 
Genesis 2:2a 
"And I will make of thee a great nation,..." 
Now you want to remember back in antiquity, a great nation didn’t have to be 275 million people. But, by the time Israel came out of Egypt with her five to seven million, they were indeed the greatest nation at that time. I don’t remember what book it was in, but it was in regard to Israel being the favored nation. The chosen people?" The Lord just boomed, "YES! Right now today, in the year 2001, why is little Israel under such constant attack? It’s always Israel’s fault. "I will make of you a great nation." 
"...and in thee (in this man Abram out of Ur of the Chaldees. Out of idolatry) shall all families of the earth be blessed." Now for sake of time, jump all the way up to the New Testament to Matthew chapter 1, verse 1. Matthew 1:1 
"The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham." 
Matthew depicts Christ as the King! And, the promise of a King did not show itself until the covenant made with Abraham. Whereas, Matthew went back to Abraham and came up to Joseph and Mary. Luke 3:23-24a 
Because Matthew uses the son Solomon whereas verse 31 of Luke chapter 3 uses Nathan who was: 
Luke 3:31 
Now from that promise of the King in Matthew’s genealogy, let’s go all the way up to Acts chapter 3 verses 24 and 25. Look at verse 12 of Acts chapter 3. Now, look at verse 13. 
"The God of Abraham, (not the God of Adam and Eve, but rather the God of Abraham) and of Isaac and of Jacob the God of our fathers,..." Nobody! No Gentile could call Abraham "our father." The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers: 
"hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up..." Acts chapter 3 verses 24 and 25. Peter is still pleading with the Nation, shortly after the resurrection and the ascension. In verse 24 Peter says: 
Acts 3:24 
Now verse 25. 
"Ye (Peter says to the Nation of Israel) are the children of the prophets, (you are the ones the prophets were writing to. Abraham,..." 
If you know your Old Testament back there in Genesis, the same words that God said to Abraham, He repeated to Isaac. Then the prophets begin to rest on all those Covenant promises. Peter is reminding Israel that YOU are the children of all the prophetic writings. You are the children of the covenant. 
"...And in thy seed (the seed of Abraham. Who is the seed of Abraham? The JEW! The Nation of Israel.) The Christ!! And, in that way, you and I then benefit from all the things promised to the Nation of Israel. 
NO, the New Covenant says as plain as day, a new covenant I will make with Israel! 
The New Covenant isn’t to us, it is to Israel. But, because of what God did for Israel, we are cashing in on the overflow. 
If Israel is not yet at the very core of everything that God is doing – throw it away!! Listen, why can’t people wake up and realize. A verse comes to mind. Plain language! Deuteronomy 32:8 
"When the Most High (the Almighty God, the Creator in His sovereignty) divided to the nations (all of them around the planet) their inheritance, when he separated the sons of Adam, (and put them into their various nationalistic categories) he set the bounds (or the borders) of the people (of all these nations of people all around the planet. Every nation’s border was set) according to the number of (what?) the children of Israel." 
Israel!! Even today, the world in general is coming down on the little Nation of Israel. God will NOT have it! Because He has decreed that at the core of all of His dealings with the nations is this little Nation of Israel. 
On your way back to Hebrews stop at Jeremiah chapter 31 verse 35. Jeremiah 31:35 
Jeremiah 31:36 
"If those ordinances (of the universe) depart from before me, saith the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever."

Hebrews chapter 2 verse 6. Hebrews 2:6-7 
7. Thou madest him a little lower than the angels;…" Hebrews 2:7 
"Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; (for a little while) thou (speaking of the Triune God) crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands:" In other words, this glorious earthly Kingdom that we’re introduced to back in verse 5. 
Hebrews 2:8a 
"Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet…." Hebrews 2:8a 
"Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet,…" Psalms 110:1 
"The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool." Hebrews 2:8a 
The last part of the verse tells us what? Hebrews 2:8b 
Philippians 2:5a 
Philippians 2:5-7a 
"Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus; 6. Who, (Christ Jesus) being in the form of God, (as He never stopped being God) thought it not robbery to be equal with God; 7a. But…" Even though He was the Sovereign Creator God of the universe, as Hebrews says, "He lowered Himself to a position lower than the angels for a little while." Philippians 2:7b 
Reading on in verse 7. Philippians 2:7c 
Jesus wept. Now let’s read verse 8. 
Philippians 2:8 
"And found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, (as a man) and became obedient unto death, (not an ordinary death, but what kind?) even the death of the cross." (crucifixion - a most horrible death.) 
Facing death for my faith doesn’t scare me a bit. "…became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. (now verse 9 - what a change) Wherefore (because of all He did to accomplish that work of the cross, Wherefore) God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, …" 
It’s an exclusivist salvation." 
There is no other name given among men whereby we must be saved. Philippians 2:10a 
"That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,…" 
"Every human being has that choice of bowing the knee and recognizing Christ as Saviour in this life, or he’ll do it at the Great White Judgment Throne in preparation for his doom." Philippians 2:11 
"And that every tongue (whether in this life or the one to come) should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." 
Let’s begin with verse 7. Remember that Paul is constantly using the prepositional phrase in Ephesians that speaks of our position "In Christ." 
Ephesians 1:7-11 
10. That in the dispensation of the fullness of times (this coming Kingdom. I Corinthians 15:12-14 
"Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13. But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: 14. And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain." In other words, when people reject the resurrection they are destitute of faith! Verse 15. 
I Corinthians 15:15a 
"Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God;…" Paul says, we would be a liar, because we witnessed Christ in resurrection form. So Paul’s writing here with first hand knowledge that, yes, Christ was alive. Now verse 16. 
I Corinthians 15:16 
"For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:" 
Now read on in verse 17. 
I Corinthians 15:17 
"And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; (it counts for nothing) ye are yet in your sins." I Corinthians 15:18 
"Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished." Lost. Now verse 19. 
I Corinthians 15:19 
"If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable." Oh, they talk about Jesus, and they claim they love Jesus, but on the other hand, have never placed their faith in that suffering, crucified, risen Lord. Now come on down to verse 24, so let’s keeping going with verse 20. 
I Corinthians 15:20 
"But now (there’s no doubt about it) is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 21. For since by man came death, (like I said, we’ll be looking at that in the next half hour) by man (the second man, the second Adam, Jesus of Nazareth) came also the resurrection of the dead." 
Now verse 22. 
I Corinthians 15:22a 
"For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive…" 
Let’s look at that in John’s gospel chapter 5. Jesus is speaking in His earthly ministry and says: 
Now verse 29. 
"For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive, 23. But every man in his own order (or company) Christ the firstfruits; (those who rose after His resurrection in Matthew chapter 27) afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming." Now verse 24. I 
25. For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed (or put under His feet) is death." And we know death is our greatest enemy, and then verse 2

Acts 9:15a "But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he (Saul of Tarsus) is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles,…" Now I’m not going to take time to do it, because I did it a few programs back, but do you remember when Paul had now been out among the Gentiles, and had a lot of converts, and had started little congregations of believers, but he had always had that heart for the Jew. 
Acts 11:22 "Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church (assembly) which was in Jerusalem: (over which Peter and the eleven were in charge) and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch." Well, for what purpose? To check this rumor out, that these Gentiles were getting interested in the things of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and that’s basically what the Scriptures are saying here. 
Remember in our last program we were speaking of this great plan of Salvation: Hebrews 2:3a "…which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, (Himself) and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him:" Remember in the last lesson I took you all the way back to when God confronted Satan or Lucifer, and how that He then turned to the Abrahamic Covenant and brought everything up through the Nation of Israel to bring about the coming of the Messiah and Redeemer. 
But now I want to take you back to Acts chapter 7 where Stephen, who was now in consort with Peter and the other eleven there at Jerusalem, approaches the religious leaders of Israel, and the whole idea is the same as what Peter has been trying to do, and that is to convince the Nation of Israel that the One they crucified was the Christ, the Messiah, the Son of God. 
But here in Acts chapter 9, this is what I wanted you to see, that for the first time in the Scriptures, here in the New Testament we’ve got God showing openly that He’s going to now turn to the Gentiles, and remember that was unheard of. 
So he says: Acts 7:2a "And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken; The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham,…" And Stephen brings them all the way up through Israel’s history, how that Joseph was not recognized the first time when his brethren went down for grain. 
You remember the verse we read in Matthew chapter 10 in the last program, when the Lord commanded them, "Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans, enter ye not:" So the Twelve disciples also had nothing to do with Gentiles. 
They could see nothing good in those pagan Gentiles, but now the Lord says to him, "I’m going to send you far hence to those Gentiles." Well, can you imagine how that struck into the heart of that good Pharisee Jew, Saul of Tarsus? But this is what the Lord had commanded, and after that experience he had on the road to Damascus, Saul had no argument with that command. 
Galatians 4:4a "But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman,…" But Paul says the same thing was part and parcel of his birth at just the right time, he was born into that Jewish family in Tarsus so that he was ready to be the apostle of the Gentiles at the exact right moment in human history. 
But now the Lord appears to this Jew who was one of the leaders of the synagogue in Damascus: Acts 9:10-13 "And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; (now you always have to remember that the word ‘disciple’ does not always mean one of the Twelve. 
But when the news got back to Jerusalem that Gentiles were getting involved, what do you think the Jerusalem leadership thought? Uh Oh! There’s something wrong here! I always like to use the analogy here of something I read several years ago about one of our major denominations who was headquartered here in the Midwest, heard of gross heresies being taught in one of their churches down in one of the southern states. 
For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.(they’re being saved, Gentiles as well as a sprinkling of Jews. 
God’s been dealing with only the Nation of Israel, based on those Old Testament covenants, with those two exceptions, and if you think the Twelve disciples ran out preaching the Gospel to the whole world, then I’m afraid you don’t know your Bible.

Hebrews 2:3 "How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, (that is by the Son, the One we’re emphasizing here in these first two chapters) and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him:" Now I guess the best place to start is, "What do we mean by this Salvation which was first spoken by the Lord Himself?" So turn back to Matthew, and we’ll go into His earthy ministry again, because I think if anything else I’ve stressed in my years of teaching, and I think most of you and our listening audience out in television land are beginning to understand, is that the Bible is a progressive revelation. 
Matthew 9:35a "And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues,…" How many times have you heard me say it, and I’ll keeping saying it as long as the Lord gives me breath, "When Jesus made His appearance to the Nation of Israel, everything He said and taught was directed to the Nation of Israel and He was under the Law." And all I ask people to do is just stop and think, did He ever one time tell the disciples or his followers to quit Temple worship. 
Well let’s go all the way back to Genesis, even though I’m sure Paul is making the original reference to the Lord’s earthly ministry there in Hebrews 2:3, but yet I think we can take the opportunity to go all the way back to when it all began in Genesis chapter 3, where we have the first prophetic utterance concerning the coming of a Redeemer and Saviour for the whole human race. 
So that’s where we struck Satan his death blow at the cross, but Satan got in his lick by making Christ suffer) and thou shall bruise his heel." Now then the next great event in human history that leads to the coming of our great Salvation is the Abrahamic Covenant in Genesis chapter 12. 
So Jesus in verse 35: Matthew 9:35 "And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, (according to the Law) and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, (which had been promised all the way since Genesis chapter 12. 
"How shall we escape if we neglect so great a Salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord." Do you see where I’m coming from? Alright then, how did the Lord come? By virtue of the promises made to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, and the prophets - and now here He is, and makes His appearance. 
Alright, but we’re not there yet in Christ’s earthly ministry, He’s still in the Kingdom economy, so come back to Matthew chapter 4, and let’s just drop in at verse 17. 
She saith unto him, Yea Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world." Now isn’t that obvious? This is all the Gospel now that began with the coming of Christ to the Nation of Israel in fulfillment of all those Old Testament prophecies, but now this was their Gospel, and that’s what they had to believe. 
You know them, and I don’t have to read them, but then come down to verse 5: Matthew 10:5a "These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them,…" Now when I read this verse to my classes, I always stop to make the point, He doesn’t suggest and say, "Well, maybe you’ll have a little better result if you do this." No He commanded them, and He’s the Lord of glory, He’s the Creator, He’s the God of this universe, and He had every right in the world to command them, and look what He tells them. 
Now verse 1 of Genesis chapter 12, and remember this is half way between Adam and Christ’s first advent: Genesis 12:1 "Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: (which of course will be the land of Canaan.) 2.

Hebrews 1:11 – 2:3 - Part 2 
Let’s just pick up where we left off in the last lesson, and that would be in Hebrews chapter 2 and verse 1. Hebrews 2:1-4 
2. For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward; 3. Now all of those verses are tied around that one concept, "How dare we neglect so great a Salvation." Now let’s go up to verse 1 and begin. "If the Son is higher than the angels, if the Son was the Creator of everything, if the Son finished the work of redemption, and purchased man’s sins, and was now qualified to sit down at the right hand of the Father on high, but not forever, there would come a day when He would arise and return, and set up His Kingdom here on the earth. Now with all that as a backdrop, that God the Son, the Creator, the Redeemer, the Intercessor, sitting at the Father’s right hand on our behalf: 
Hebrews 2:1 
Verse 1 again. 
Hebrews 2:1-2a 
2. For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast,…" 
Now years ago I read that verse, and it threw a curve at me, and I imagine that it does lots of people. When did the angels have a part in dispensing the Word of God? This of course is Paul’s letter to the Gentile churches with regard to their being pressured to go back under the Law of Moses. Galatians 3:19a 
"Wherefore then serveth the law? What happened to the human race from Adam to the flood, when they had no Mosaic Law? People were very wicked, they had no concept of God anymore. So by the time we get to the flood, only eight souls were saved. This is why Paul says "the Law was added," because it didn’t work without some system of Law. Now reading on: 
Galatians 3:19 
"Wherefore then serveth the law? Now I don’t understand that, and I don’t claim to, because I think our basic understanding of the giving of the Law was, "Moses was up there on Mount Sinai, and God wrote the Law with His finger on the tables of stone, and Moses brought it down the mountain." Hebrews 2:1-2 
2. For if the word (the Law) spoken by angels was stedfast, (in other words the Law was perfect,) and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward;" 
The Law was so explicit, and so severe. There was no getting a good attorney and somehow buying your way out when you broke God’s Law, you paid the consequences. Now I think there’s a lot of misunderstanding, when the Lord Jesus said, "an eye for and eye, and a tooth for a tooth." Remember the Law was strict, and there was no bending the rules. Now verse 3. Remember we’re in a whole better program than what the Law was, and this is the argument that Paul is presenting. 
Hebrews 2:3a 
"How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation;…" 
Now remember, how great is this Salvation that you and I have today. It’s beyond human understanding, because it’s free for nothing. In John’s gospel chapter 10, we find the door to the sheep fold is right at ground level. Oh, we’ve got to work, work, work, and somehow satisfy the demands of a Holy God, but listen, the only way we can satisfy God is by taking it by faith in Paul’s Gospel of I Corinthians 15:1-4. 
How dare we neglect so great a Salvation! A Salvation without works, by faith, and faith alone in what Christ has already done for us - it’s finished. Hebrews 2:3 
"How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first (going all the way back to Christ’s earthly ministry. This is all building up to our Gospel of Grace) began to be spoken by the Lord," (in His earthly ministry) 
Now remember that I make it so plain, that the Lord could not teach our Grace Gospel, which is that "Christ died, was buried, and rose from the dead." The Twelve disciples didn’t understand any of that either. In fact, let’s just take time and look at what the Scriptures say about that. You see they couldn’t be preaching our Grace Gospel of the death, burial, and resurrection for Salvation for the whole human race, because: 
- Christ was dealing with His covenant people, Israel. - Then after Salvation goes to the Gentile world through the Apostle Paul, then yes, it becomes the Gospel of Grace, based on His death, burial, and resurrection. 
So let’s look at it in Luke chapter 18, and let’s drop in at verse 31. Luke 18:31-33 
(that is concerning Jesus of Nazareth) 32. For as yet then knew not the Scripture that He must rise from the dead." Well the answer is in the next verse. 
God did. 
"The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those thing which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever,…" 
So Mary Magdalene goes to the tomb with the idea of anointing Jesus’ body, as was the custom, and low and behold the tomb is empty.

Absolutely! So let’s come in at Hebrews chapter 1, and verse 13 again. 
Hebrews 1:13 
"But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until (now that’s the key word) I make thine enemies thy footstool?" 
Now let’s go back and chase that verse down, and it begins of course with David writing it in Psalms 110:1. Psalms 110:1 
So what you really have here is God the Father, says to God the Son) Sit thou at my right hand, (He’s not going there for all eternity, but rather just for a period of time) until I make thine enemies thy footstool." 
Now let’s move from here up to Matthew chapter 22, and drop down to verse 44. This is Christ in His earthly ministry, He uses this verse in Psalms Himself. But to pick up the flow of these verses let’s begin at verse 41. 
Matthew 22:41-46 
"While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, 42. Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David. 43. He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit (that is by inspiration of the Holy Spirit) call him Lord, saying, 44. The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool? 45. If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?" That Psalms was speaking of the very Godhead, and David had nothing to do with bringing that about except through the flesh. Mark 12:35a 
"And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple,…" 
So here again, where is Jesus dealing with these Pharisees? In the Temple. Now reading the verse again. 
36. For David himself said by the Holy Ghost…." 
Well that word ‘inspired’ is probably better translated, "God breathed." The Holy Spirit, and then the Lord Himself gives credit, that even David wrote as the Holy Spirit prompted him to write. Mark 12:36 
"For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool. 37. David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he then his son? And the common people heard him gladly." 
Mark 12:38-39 
The Son! Now the next Scripture we’ll look at will be in Luke chapter 20, and let’s just drop in at verse 39. 
"Then certain of the scribes answering said, Master, thou hast well said. How say they that Christ is David’s son? 42. And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, the LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, 43. Till I make thine enemies thy footstool. 44. David therefore calleth him Lord, how is he then his son? 45. Then in the audience of all the people (of Israel) he said unto his disciples, 46. Let’s pick this up in verse 25. Now verse 25. 
"For David speaketh concerning him, (Christ from the Old Testament Psalms) I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved: 26. Now in verse 27, David is making a direct reference to Christ’s burial and resurrection) 27. Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day." 
Now verse 30. 
Most people don’t think of David and the Psalms being prophecy. Now verse 30 again. 
Acts 2:30 
In those three years of Christ’s earthly ministry, did Jesus ever sit on David’s throne? Now let’s move on into verse 31. 
"This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. (in other words the coming of the Holy Spirit) 34. For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand. 35. Until I make thy foes thy footstool." 
Well, first and foremost, it emphases the fact that Christ has finished the work of redemption in that everything that needS to be done to purchase man’s Salvation was finished. It’s just an invisible kingdom and all that nonsense, and it bugs me to hear people speak of that glorious kingdom that’s coming in that light. Now let’s be careful. Who are His enemies? We’re talking about good people, dressed in their finery, and even the attitude of so many church people. 
Too many times people go to church because it’s expected of them. There’s no love for the Lord, there’s no love for this Book, and the reason?, "They’re Lost!" Well, if they’re unsaved church members, what are they? They’re are enemies of our Lord. So get it straight, lost people are the enemies of God whether they realize it or not. So let’s read from Romans 6, and drop in at verse 5. 
Romans 8:5-7a 
Because the carnal mind (the unsaved person) is enmity against God;…" 
So they’re the enemies of God. Oh, they may not be active enemies, they may instead be passive, but the Scripture still puts them in that category as enemies of God. Romans 8:7b

Hebrews 1:10 - 2:4
Absolutely! So let’s come in at Hebrews chapter 1, and verse 13 again.
Hebrews 1:13
"But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until (now that’s the key word) I make thine enemies thy footstool?"
Now let’s go back and chase that verse down, and it begins of course with David writing it in Psalms 110:1. Psalms 110:1
So what you really have here is God the Father, says to God the Son) Sit thou at my right hand, (He’s not going there for all eternity, but rather just for a period of time) until I make thine enemies thy footstool."
Now let’s move from here up to Matthew chapter 22, and drop down to verse 44. This is Christ in His earthly ministry, He uses this verse in Psalms Himself. But to pick up the flow of these verses let’s begin at verse 41.
