Hebrews 12:18 – 13:25 
We’ve got several people here today. Remember we were talking about how that, if God Who spoke while dealing with Israel on earth was something to be feared, how much more we should respect that Voice that speaks from heaven. And of course, for the most part, for us today in this Age of Grace, that comes through the epistles of the Apostle Paul, to whom God revealed all of these doctrines that are for us today. All Scripture, even Paul himself writes, "All Scripture is profitable for reproof in instruction, in inspiration and so forth." Alright now in verse 26: 
"Whose voice then shook the earth: (well God was dealing from Mt. Sinai) but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven. II Peter 3:10-12 
12. Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?" Let’s look at the next verse: 
So now if you’ll come back to Hebrews 12 once again we know that God is going to deal harshly with this planet someday. 
"Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, (cannot be destroyed) let us have grace, (oh, that favorite term of the Apostle Paul) whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:" Now, you remember for us as believers, we don’t shake in our boots in the presence of God. Never forget that. 
"For our god is a consuming fire." Hebrews 13:1-2 
We know that back in Biblical history, angels were entertained by mortal man. It’s been a joyful experience and I think that’s what the Apostle Paul is talking about here. It will just simply be fellow believers. Alright, so "some have entertained angels unawares." Hebrews 13:3a 
Alright, here they come, supernaturally brought, and let’s begin with verse 31. 
Matthew 25:31-32a 
"When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: (in other words, as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Matthew 25:34-36 
Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me." Now of course, we know that the ones he’s talking about were the 144,000 Tribulation witnesses that God will seal - that no doubt suffered the privations listed here. Hebrews 13:3 
"So remember those who are in bonds," Paul says: if they need food, take it to them. Only Paul speaks of the Body of Christ in Scripture. Now, Paul shifts gears, as I’ve said so often. 
Hebrews 13:4 
"Marriage is honourable in all, the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge." Alright now, verse 5: 
Hebrews 13:5 
"Let your conversation (the word here is manner of living. We are to work, Paul says, if you don’t want to work, you don’t eat! Now verse 6. Hebrews 13:6 
Now let’s take a verse again out of Romans. Romans 8:31-32 
If God be for us, (and Hebrews just told us that He will never leave us nor forsake us.) who can be against us? Then verse 33: 
Romans 8:33-34 
It is God that justifieth. It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, (which is where? Alright, back to Hebrews again, chapter 13, and verse 7. Hebrews 13:7 
"Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation." (or their manner of living.) Now verse 8: 
Hebrews 13:8 
You know if people have an argument with me, they don’t like the fact that I separate Paul from Peter and the Church from Israel. And they’ve now picked it up in the word dispensational. "Well, you agree that everything changed?" "Alright, let’s go a little further. God. God doesn’t change. Well, what is that?It’s a change in dispensation. It’s a change in administration. 
You’ve got the appearance of a whole new race and nation of people through which God is going to send the Word of God, through which the Redeemer would come. That’s never been heard of before. You’re going to tell me nothing has changed? Everything has changed. We’re under Grace. It’s just simply breaking the Scriptures down to realize that God’s immutable, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. He never changes! Mankind never had full access to the Father like we have. 
You will hear somebody throw that word out at you, and say, "Don’t listen to Les Feldick, He’s dispensational." How can you tell me that things have never changed when I know everybody realizes it has. And every change is just a change in administration. The people who think I am teaching strange doctrines are the ones to whom I’ll have to say, "Hey, wait a minute. "Rightly divide the Word of God." 
Hebrews 13:9a 
"Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines…." People don’t know what to believe.

Hebrews 11:24 – 12:17 - Part 2 
"Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God." All right, Hebrews 1 verse 3 says it even plainer than Hebrews 12: 
Because it was perfect. All right, now then, let’s move on into Hebrews chapter 12 verse 3. 
"Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin." What’s it speaking of? Now verse 5; 
"And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:"Now of course, Paul as I’ve said so often, can shift gears. To increase their faith. All right, so he says, "Don’t despise the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked." Now here’s the reason in verse 6. 
Some of it God permits as a chastening process to increase our faith, to increase our Christian discipline. All right, verse 7: 
"If ye endure chastening,…" Why do we discipline our kids? Why, because we love them. We discipline them because we love them. All right, and he’s bringing it right into the Christian experience. 
"If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?" If a father never disciplines, he’s not a father. All right, verse 8: 
"But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, (illegitimate) and not sons." Satan’s not going to leave us alone if we’re a true child of God. Now verse 9: 
Hebrews 12:9a 
All right, Paul is saying the same thing spiritually. See? All right, that’s what God does to us - He chastens us. All right, now then, if our earthly fathers got that kind of response: 
Now verse 11 – oh, this is so true. 
Is it joyous to chasten? All right, now Paul is bringing it right back into the spiritual, "Nevertheless afterward it yielded the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby." Verse 12. What’s the first word? "Wherefore." In other words, learn the lesson that as a child is disciplined for his own good, God does the same thing with us, to increase our faith. 
Because there are two reasons God brings adversity into the life of the believer - two, not one. To exercise his faith. If a believer is going through hard times (health, finance or whatever), God may be just doing all this to increase their faith, and just strengthen them spiritually. The individual believer knows if God is spanking him because he’s been a disobedient child. Now verse 12. 
Now verse 14, and admonition in our everyday experience. 
"Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: 15. Hebrews 12:16a 
"Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau,…" What was Esau’s problem - if you remember my teaching back in Genesis? He was destitute of faith. Esau never saw any good in anything that God said. Esau was probably a nicer young man than his brother Jacob), but he had no faith. 
What God said meant nothing to Esau. It’s no longer relevant. All right, that was Esau. Esau had no biblical morality, and the reason he didn’t have any morality was because he had no faith. Hebrews 12:16 
That birthright didn’t mean a thing to Esau because it was a spiritual thing. And spiritual things mean nothing to people who have no faith. And so Esau is the perfect example through Scripture of a man destitute of faith - and, consequently, becomes immoral and he counts for nothing spiritually. And so that was Esau. Now verse 17. 
It was literally preordained by a Sovereign God that this should fall into place - but you remember how Jacob sort of befuddled Isaac, and got there before Esau and got the blessing. Now here comes Esau. Hebrews 12:17b 
Esau isn’t trying to repent himself. Unbelief causes people to lose the peace with God, the tranquility, the joy of this life - but far more important, eternity. In fact, come back with me to Romans chapter 5 verse 1. Romans 5:1 
faith, (the same thing we’ve been talking about here in Hebrews 11) we have (in the here and now) peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:" What more could we ask for? We’ve placed our faith in that finished work of the cross. 
"By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God." I have to always go from here right over to Romans 8 verse 1 - one of my favorite verses. 
God cannot make one accusation against us because it’s under the blood. Our faith has caused Him to cancel it. Now remember, Esau isn’t the only man like this. Hebrews 12:18a 
"For ye…" Never forget that Paul is speaking to these Hebrews, and is trying to convince them that the whole concept of salvation is through grace by faith alone! Hebrews 12:18a

Hebrews 11:24 – 12:17 
I’ve got a couple of letters that I’ve been carrying in my Bible, and I just ask people, "Can you believe this?" Okay, Hebrews chapter 12, we only just got a little start in verse 1 on the last program so we’ll just pick up as though we never even started. And the verse says: 
Hebrews 12:1a 
"Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses,…" Making reference of course, to all these that have been mentioned in this great faith chapter 11. Horror of horrors! Let’s go back to John’s Gospel chapter 1, where John the Baptist is a witness of the ministry of the Lord Jesus. John’s Gospel chapter 1, starting at verse 6. 
John 1:6-7a 
"There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. (this is John the Baptist) John the Baptist wasn’t sitting there in an amphitheater watching Jesus perform His miracles. Hebrews 12:1a 
"Martyras." Like John the Baptist, who is confirming that the God of Scripture is real. The witnesses have proven it. All right, now the other term as I’ve already made mention of is "autopisis" and that is used in II Peter chapter 1. Now let’s look at it here in II Peter chapter 1 verse 16, where Peter writes: 
II Peter 1:16-17 
Now verse 18, " 
II Peter 1:18 
All right, now that being the case, let’s read on: 
Hebrews 12:1b 
"…let us lay aside every weight,.…" Now, you know, this is another reason I think Hebrews is written by the Apostle Paul. What does Paul constantly refer to in his illustrations? Over and over – running the race; beating the air like a boxer, see? An Olympic runner. All right, that’s what we’re to do as believers. Now let’s read the next part of the verse. 
Hebrews 12:1c 
Unbelief. I can never forget my dear old mother shortly before she died, we were talking about the Rapture and I’ll never forget her question. Faith tells us what? Unbelief says what? Deal with these weights that tend to slow us down. Deal with unbelief. Deal with an individual weakness - and then now finish the verse, 
Hebrews 12:1d 
"…and let us run with patience the race that is set before us," How did Paul put it? 7. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:" 
I have finished my course." Now what’s he talking about? The race. See? The course for the race. I have run the race, "I have finished my course, (I have gone the prescribed way that God laid out for me.) I have kept the faith." Now listen, go back with me to II Corinthians chapter 11, and in this passage, Paul isn’t bragging. You remember that? All right, II Corinthians chapter 11 and I’ll just jump right in at verse 22. And remember, he’s defending his apostleship. We’ll follow Peter or we’ll follow Christ." II Corinthians 11:22-23a 
"Are they Hebrews? II Corinthians 11:23b 
All Twelve of them just stayed right there at Jerusalem for the most part. They didn’t go out into the Roman world. Hey, they stayed in Jerusalem. II Corinthians 11:24 
"Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one." Scar tissue on scar tissue on scar tissue. Read on. 
II Corinthians 11:25a 
"Thrice (three times) was I beaten with rods, (and that is despicable. All for the sake of the Gospel. 
II Corinthians 11:25b 
Now verse 26. Now I just told somebody at break time, we travel a lot. For the sake of the Gospel. II Corinthians 11:26-28 
"In journeyings often, in perils of water, in perils of robbers, in perils by my own countrymen, (that’s why the Jews had beaten him and had scourged him those five times) in perils by the heathen, (the non-Jewish world) in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; 27. All right, so back to Hebrews chapter 12. Now move on to verse 2, as we run the race, as we fight the battles of life, we are to be: 
Hebrews 12:2a 
"Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith;…" Now in another place in Hebrews it’s referred to as the "file leader." And if you’ll remember way back, several months ago, my how long have we been in Hebrews? Now, of course, Paul says, that he’s right behind Him, and then we follow behind Paul. All right, so we look unto Jesus, up there at the front, leading us on into eternity "and the finisher of our faith." Hebrews 12:2b 
All right: 
Philippians 2:5-6 
"Let this mind be in you, (think as He thought,) which was also in Christ Jesus: 6. Who (speaking of Christ) being in the form of God, (He was God. Never anything less than God.)Now verse 7: 
Philippians 2:7-8 
There is so much more there than meets human understanding - we’ll never comprehend it until we get to eternity; how that God laid all the sin and guilt of the whole human race on Him. All right, Luke 18 verse 31. Luke 18:31-33

Hebrews 11:9–23 - Part 2 
We’re just simply studying the Word and comparing Scripture with Scripture. 
All right, Genesis chapter 23 and let’s start at verse 3. Genesis 23:3-7 
"And Abraham stood up from before his dead, and spake unto the sons of Heth, saying, (now remember it’s still the land of Canaan) 4. 5. And the children of Heth answered Abraham, saying unto him, 6. Hear us, my lord: thou art a mighty prince among us: in the choice of our sepulchres bury thy dead; none of us shall withhold from thee his sepulchre, but that thou mayest bury the dead. 7. And Abraham stood up, and bowed himself to the people of the land, even to the children of Heth." Now verse 8. 
Genesis 23:8-9 
Genesis 23:16-18 
"And Abraham hearkened unto Ephron; and Abraham (now watch this, underline it, pass it on to anybody that will listen) and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant. Genesis 23:19 
"And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre: The same is Hebron in the land of Canaan." 
All right, now Mamre, the cave of Machpelah is today’s Hebron. How many people are confused by the term Palestine? Does the Mid-West have a capital? Does the Mid-West have a flag? Does the Mid-West have a government? Does the Sahara have definitive borders? Is the Sahara a nation? The South Pacific. All right, that’s Palestine. It has never, never been a definitive area. The Sahara. The South Pacific. Palestine. Then it became the deeded land of Israel so the Jew was the true Palestinians. Well they’re not. They don’t occupy all of Palestine. A good part of Palestine as the term implies is maybe even parts of Syria. It is not a definitive government; it’s merely people living in a generalized geographical area. All right, let’s look at the second one. Jump up ten chapters and go to Genesis chapter 33. Genesis 33:18 
(That is of Shechem.) 19. And he bought (now watch this all carefully) a parcel of a field, where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for an hundred pieces of money. All right now, let’s jump over to the last verses of Joshua chapter 24. Joshua 24:29 
Now remember the history here. When Israel came into the land of Canaan, Moses had died and Joshua picked up the leadership. And Joshua, I think, ruled the Nation of Israel something like 26 years, if I’m not mistaken. Joshua 24:30-32 
Same piece of ground. It’s still recognized as belonging to the children of Israel and in that piece of ground they buried the bones of Joseph, see? And it became the inheritance, then, of the children of Joseph. All right, so that’s the present day city in Israel of Nablus. Watch for Nablus in the News. There’s another shooting. Whatever. Because it’s a point of controversy. All right so we’ve got two of them covered. Hebron, Abraham bought it. Nablus, Jacob bought it. 
Now for Jerusalem. Now David is king. II Samuel 24:18 
"And Gad came that day to David, and said unto him, Go up, rear an altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Araunah the Jebusite." II Samuel 24:19-21 
21. And Araunah said, Wherefore is my lord the king come to his servant? And David said, To buy the threshingfloor of thee, to build an altar unto the LORD, that the plague may be stayed from the people." Now verse 22. 
23. All these things did Araunah, as a king, give unto the king, (David). And Araunah said unto the king, The LORD thy God accept thee. 24. And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the LORD my God of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver. 25. And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the LORD was intreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel." 
All right, what spot is this threshingfloor? For the Lord the come. Jerusalem will know no peace until Christ returns. Now we’ll pick up another one of our faith people in Moses. How could they preach death, burial and resurrection back here in His earthly ministry? The Lord says in those verses, "We go up to Jerusalem. Common sense tells me they couldn’t preach Paul’s Gospel of salvation, because all of Paul’s Gospel was resting on that death, burial and resurrection. Well you can’t. Now back to Hebrews chapter 11. 
Hebrews 11:23a 
"By faith Moses, when he was born,…" This little fellow is something special. 
Hebrews 11:23 
We are now about 350 years after the call of Abraham, and the children of Israel have never had a printed book. Faith. By word of mouth.

Hebrews 11:9–23 
Hebrews 11:16a 
Now I hope you all realize that when the patriarchs were faithful, God blessed them materially. All of our promises are heavenly. All right, let’s go on into the next verse now, verse 17. 
Hebrews 11:17 
"By faith Abraham, when he was tried, (or tested) offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son," Now let’s go back and look at it. Now we’ve already stressed in the earlier programs this afternoon that Abraham was fifty years waiting for the promised son. 
God had nothing to do with the birth of Ishmael. All right, but now Isaac is a young lad himself. To test Abraham’s faith. My, you wouldn’t think God would have had to test Abraham anymore - he’d already been tested for 50-some years. But, nevertheless, God is going to test the faith of this man of faith, Abraham, once again. 
Genesis 22:1-2 
"And it came to pass after these things that God did tempt (or test) Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am. (now look at verse 2. Genesis 22:3-4 
"And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave (or held) the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him. Genesis 22:5 
All right again, by faith, and oh, I can’t emphasize this enough, what did Abraham know? That if he would have to kill Isaac, God would raise him up so he could go back home with him. All right, let’s read on. Now verse 6. 
Genesis 22:6-7 
7. And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, here am I, my son. Genesis 22:8 
"And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together." But what had God told Abraham? "To sacrifice Isaac." It would be Isaac, but somehow or other, Abraham knew one of two things. If he would have to offer Isaac, God would raise him from the dead. And if he didn’t offer Isaac, God would provide the lamb. Genesis 22:9 
"And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood." Now that almost seems beyond human comprehension, it seems beyond the God that we know of Scripture. How could God expect a man to lay his own son, when we know that one of the horrors of Israel’s history was child sacrifice and yet here God commanded Abraham to lay Isaac on that altar bound, hand and foot, although there is no indication that Isaac resisted. That God did bring about a Human sacrifice, the greatest one of all. Number one, as I’ve already pointed out, Isaac was the only begotten son. Isaac fulfilled everything pertaining to Christ’s sacrifice by being totally obedient to be that sacrifice. God said it and they could rest on it. 
Genesis 22:10 
"And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son." All right verse 11. 
Genesis 22:11a 
Well, that’s God the Son. 
Genesis 22:11b-12 
…called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I. 12. And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me." Now there’s the emphasis - that as Isaac was the only son of Abraham in God’s eyes, so Christ was referred to as the only begotten Son of God. Genesis 22:13 
"And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: And Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him for a burnt offering in the stead of his son." From Isaac or from the ram? All right, and so now verse 14.

Scripture tells us that if Abraham would have carried out the killing of Isaac, God would have raised him from the dead - but of course, He did the alternative. Hebrews 11:19b

"By faith (again) Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come." Because God promised Ishmael that He would bless him. They’ve been blessed. 
Now verse 21. 
Hebrews 11:21a 
"By faith Jacob, when he was a dying,…" Hebrews 11:21b 
"…blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff." In verse 22 - of Joseph, the favored son of Jacob. Joseph ends up down in Egypt. Jews. Jews. Jew or Gentile? Second man in Babylon. All right, now here’s Joseph. "We walk by faith."

All the examples of people of faith; and remember from Adam until the end of the human experience, faith is always the number one criteria for a right relationship with God, as we’re going to see in this lesson. 
Hebrews 11:4a 
"By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain,…" 
Genesis 4:3a 
Now remember, God is never unfair. God would not expect these young men, Cain and Abel, to do something that He had never told them to do. If that was the case then it wouldn’t be faith. All right, so both young men have the same Word from God on how to approach Him. If you’ll notice in Scriptures, we have the natural man first. Hebrews 9:22b 
So by faith, as Hebrews chapter 11 reminds us: 
Genesis 4:4a 
Cain may have been a nicer guy than Abel. What counted was that Abel did what God said to do and he was accepted. All right, so read verse 4 again. 
Genesis 4:4a 
Because it wasn’t what God had instructed. No faith. He didn’t believe a word God said. All right so now as we go back to Hebrews chapter 11, we have to realize that it’s by faith and faith alone that everyone has been brought into a relationship with God. And then, based on their faith, yes, Abel brought the animal sacrifice. Faith. No knowledge of the One True God. And yet when God spoke to Abram out of that background of idolatry, what did Abram do? He believed God. Now that’s faith. 
Romans 4:1 
2. For if Abram were justified by works, (by doing something) he hath whereof to glory; (or brag) but not before God." 
A works religion tells God, "I’ve earned it, and you owe me." Well you see that’s what a works religion does to God. It says, "God you owe me. Now verse 3. 
Romans 4:3a 
Well, does the Book say, "Abraham believed God" and brought a sacrifice? "Abraham believed" and was baptized? "Abraham believed" and spoke in tongues? "Abraham believed" and joined the church? Abraham believed God, and put his faith in what God said. Now like I said in the last program, and what does God do the moment He sees our faith? It’s just simply a matter of faith that when we become a believer, God declares us righteous. Not because of what we’ve worked for but because of our faith. Faith! By faith and faith alone! Verse 4. 
Romans 4:4 
(God’s mercy,) but (rather it is reckoned) of (what?) debt." 
You’ve worked for it so God owes you. God will never be in debt to any human being! Not even Abraham, and so this is the whole admonition of Scripture then that it’s by faith alone. Romans 4:5 
God can’t justify someone who says they’re good enough. God can only justify the person that says, "I’m a sinner." Pride! 
You’re good enough, and God will accept you." So if you are without God, you’re ungodly. Ungodly. And that’s the kind of a person that God wants to save. 
Now back to Hebrews chapter 11. 
Hebrews 11:5a 
"By faith (by taking God at His Word) Enoch was translated that he should not see death;…" 
Enoch didn’t die. Hebrews 11:5b 
"…and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God." 
Enoch pleased God. 
Hebrews 11:6a 
"But without faith it is impossible to please him:…" (God) 
Without faith it is impossible to please God. Enoch was a man of faith. All it says, he was a man who believed God. Now we don’t know how much God told Enoch. All right, so "without faith it is impossible to please him." Hebrews 11:6b 
By faith. Hebrews 11:7a 
"By faith, Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear,…" 
What did God tell Noah? It had never rained a drop. By faith. God said it, and when God said, "Noah, I’m going to destroy the earth with water. Build an ark." God said it! Hebrews 11:7b 
Pretty small. So Noah had the faith: 
Hebrews 11:7c 
"…and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith." 
All right, but Noah by faith built the ark and then he became the "heir (again which faith always prompts) of (what?) righteousness." Righteousness. God didn’t look at Noah like a vile old sinner because of his faith, God now looked at Noah as a righteous man. Now if you want to use the term righteous as right standing with God, I’ve got no problem with that. We are now in a right standing with God. Hebrews 11:8 
God just simply told this pagan man Abraham down there in the Euphrates Valley, "Leave your city, and your family. That takes faith! Hebrews 11:9a 
"By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country,…" 
Which of course, God promised to him back there in Genesis chapter 15 and on. Right! Oh, God deeded him the land in Genesis 15 but who was still occupying it? God was with him, and God blessed him.

Hebrews 10:23 – 11:8 
Now in Hebrews chapter 10 picking up from our last program where he says in verse 34 to these Hebrew believers: 
Reward. I Corinthians chapter 3. So come back with me to I Corinthians chapter 3, where Paul is dealing with the rewards system for the believer. Not the punishment level for the unbeliever but the reward system for the believer. I Corinthians 3:9a 
Like I said, as believers, we don’t labour for salvation that comes by faith and faith alone. But as soon as we become a believer, God is going to give us opportunity for service, working for Him. 
"We are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, (see? ye are God’s building. 10. According to the grace of God which is given unto me, (Paul writes) as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation,…" 
Now do you see why I emphasize Paul? Who built it? Well see, that’s what the Apostle Paul is claiming. Paul did. And so Paul takes by the Holy Spirit’s inspiration full credit for laying the foundation. 
We’re saved by that foundation which is Jesus Christ and His finished work of the Cross. (I Corinthians 15:1-4) But now we’re building on that, as believers. Now verse 11. 
which is Jesus Christ." 
A solid foundation. Well, Paul was saying the same things. We’re not building on the sands of some false religion; we’re building on the foundation of the One and Only True God-given basis for salvation. So then verse 12. Now Paul says, as a believer you’ve been saved through the foundational work of the Cross. And now as a believer you’re going to start building on that foundation for reward. 
"Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble." 
If anything it will enhance them. And so Paul is using that analogy, Now verse 13. 
"Every man (now that’s a generic term remember, when Paul says man, he’s not leaving the women out. So every believer’s) work shall be made manifest:" 
The judgment day. That scares people. When we believers come before the Lord it’s going to be the Bema Seat. The place of reward. 
"If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward." In other words, as a believer; and if it’s gold, silver and precious stone, it’ll remain and you will receive a reward. All I know is that God is fair. I Corinthians 3:15 
"If any man’s work (as a believer, now we’re talking only about believers. And even believers are going to come before the Bema Seat with nothing but wood, hay and stubble. They’ve never done anything worth a plug nickel to further God’s Kingdom, but they’re believers. All right, and so their work) shall be burned,…" The loss these believers will suffer will not be their salvation, but rather they’ll lose their reward. You remember that? "If I can just slip in under the door." 
"If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire." 
The believer will suffer loss, as he won’t get a reward, but, he himself shall be saved! All right, let’s go back to Hebrews chapter 10 and so you have the same concept, that these Jewish believers who were suffering for their faith would experience, one day, reward. 
"Cast not away therefore, your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward. 36. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise." 
Hebrews 10:37 
Now Paul expected it in his lifetime. Peter says: 
II Peter 3:3a 
II Peter 3:3b 
II Peter 3:4a 
Jews. Why, ever since the fathers they’ve been talking about the Lord’s coming. Now finish the verse. 
II Peter 3:4b 
We’re seeing it; but with God, of course, His wheels grind slowly. Verse 37, repeating it. 
Hebrews 10:37 
Now verse 38, again you know, I always say that Paul shifts gears. Hebrews 10:38a 
faith:…" 
"That the just shall live by faith!" 
Hebrews 10:38b 
"…but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him." 
Faith! All right, so "The just shall live by faith. But if any draw back from that faith, then God has no pleasure in him." Now verse 39. 
Hebrews 10:39 
Paul writes: We are not of them who draw back unto perdition." Well, now I think we can just slip right into chapter 11 – I’m amazed that the chapter didn’t start up there a couple verses when we started talking about faith. Hebrews 11:1a 
"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for,…" 
What is substance? Hebrews 11:1 
Faith. God said it. All right, verse 2. 
Hebrews 11:2 
Now verse 3. 
Hebrews 11:3 
This we know that the universe was framed by the Word of God and the God Who spoke was Jesus the Christ. Hebrews 11:4a 
"By faith…" 
Now here’s the great faith chapter. Hebrews chapter 11. "By faith." By simply taking God at His Word: 
Hebrews 11:4b 
Now faith has always prompted God to declare that believer righteous. Righteous!

Hebrews 10:1-22 - Part 2 
The Nation of Israel will be in their physical bodies in the Kingdom Age, along with all believers who make it through the Tribulation. 
Hebrews 10:18 
"Now where the remission of these is, (that is their sins and iniquities that God has now cleansed them of) there is no more offering for sin." It’s all done with that one-time offering of Christ. All right, now in verse 19, we’re going right back again up into the throne room of Heaven as it were. 
Hebrews 10:19a 
The very Holy of Holies in Heaven, and we can enter in boldly. Hebrews 10:19b 
"…by the blood of Jesus." The blood of Christ. Hebrews 10:20a 
Eternity. Hebrews 10:20b 
"…which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;" Now I’m sure many of you have heard the term that the body of Christ was ‘the veil.’ Or the veil was the body of Christ. When Christ took on human flesh and He became sin for us, it was that body of flesh then and that shed blood that opened up the way into the Holy of Holies. Sin! Sinful men could not come into the presence of such a holy and a righteous God. Colossians 2:9 
That body of flesh that was prepared for thirty-three years of living on this planet for the sole purpose of going to that Cross, to shed divine blood as payment for mankind’s sin. 
So we have to picture this veil then as Christ’s body of flesh because it stood for the sin of mankind. To become sin for us. That now, the way into the Holiest of all was made possible through the flesh, the body, the crucified body of the Son of God. All right, come back to Hebrews 10: 
Hebrews 10:19a 
"Having therefore, brethren, boldness…" Able to come into the very throne room of God – boldly? We go right into the throne room of Heaven. Now of course, I’m a great proponent of a prayer time. Because we have the right to go boldly into the very throne room, the Holy of Holies 
Hebrews 10:19 
"Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus." The Holy of Holies. That place in the Temple that was behind the veil. That place up in Heaven where Christ went and presented His blood. Now verse 20. 
Hebrews 10:20 
" (We come boldly) By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;" So when that body of flesh hung there on that Cross and the blood was shed, this veil that had separated men from God for 1,500 years (Law) was now rent from the top to the bottom. Hebrews 10:21 
"And having a high priest over the house of God;" Now this is why, earlier in Hebrews, we spent all that time on the priesthood of Melchisedec – Christ’s high priesthood on our behalf. Now verse 22. 
Hebrews 10:22a 
faith." Faith does not demand feelings and feelings does not confirm faith. You just simply take God at His Word without any confirmation. Without any physical. Faith is that abiding ability to trust the Word of God. Hebrews 10:22b 
It didn’t have to be completely bathed in blood; it was a sprinkling that God recognized as sufficient. Hebrews 10:22c 
"…having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and with our bodies washed with pure water." The blood of Christ has cleansed us. Because it’s been applied to our hearts by faith and our bodies washed with pure water. Hey, it’s the Temple, it’s the Tabernacle, it’s the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. This body is the temple of the Holy Spirit when we become a believer. Now there’s several verses that refer to the body. "In whom ye also trusted,…" Believers. Paul never writes to the unbeliever. Ephesians 1:13 
the gospel of your salvation: (how that Christ died for our sins, was buried and rose from the dead) in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise." The Holy Spirit came in as God’s mark of ownership. Now verse 14. 
Ephesians 1:14 
If the Holy Spirit came into this tabernacle of flesh at the moment of salvation, then you would think that this body was redeemed as well as the soul was, wouldn’t we? The soul was redeemed. The soul and the spirit are already God’s, they’re His, they’re marked as His. But this old body is still down here under the curse, isn’t it? 
Down payment. It’s the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. It’s the dwelling place of our now-redeemed soul and spirit. All right, Romans chapter 8 verse 18. 
Romans 8:18 
19. For the earnest expectation of the creature (or the creation, all of creation) waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God." Or the children of God. Now verse 20. 
Romans 8:20 
"For the creature (creation) was made subject to vanity, (the curse) not willingly, (it wasn’t the animal kingdom’s fault that Adam sinned.) Now verse 21.

"The LORD (God the Father) said unto my Lord, (God the Son) Sit thou at my right hand, (what’s the next word?) until…" The work of the Cross is finished forever but His seating Himself at the right hand of the Father is not for eternity. "…I make thine enemies thy footstool." 
Luke chapter 1 and he lays it out so clearly of what God was ready to bring into the Nation of Israel. All right, let’s jump in at verse 67 where Zacharias now (the father of John the Baptist, one of the priests working the Temple rites in Jerusalem) has just been filled with the Holy Spirit and he is prompted to speak this: 
Luke 1:67-68a 
"And his father (that is the father of John the Baptist) was filled with the Holy Ghost, and (he) prophesied, (or spoke forth) saying, 68. Blessed be the Lord God of Israel;…" Not the whole world yet, but Israel. I’ve said it more than once, people get a little bit upset when I point this out – that Christ came only to fulfill the covenants made with His covenant people, Israel. (The Jew.) For the truth of God (not because Paul dreamed it up but because it was a fact of Scripture) that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God to fulfill the promises made to the fathers." 
All right look what he says, verse 68. 
Luke 1:68-71a 
"Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed His people, (Israel) 69. (Speaking of the Old Testament writers.) 71. That we (Israel) should be saved from our (what?) enemies,…" 
Now, when Psalms speaks of sitting at the Father’s right hand, until He puts His foot on his enemies, what does it speak of? Luke 1:71 
Luke 1:72 
"To perform the mercy promised to our father, …" 
Romans 15:8 
"Now I say that Jesus Christ was (past tense) a minister of the circumcision (the Nation of Israel) for the truth of God, (and here’s the purpose for His coming.) That here they are now, the covenant people, a nation in the Promised Land, waiting for the coming of their Messiah, Redeemer and King. 
Luke 1:72-73 
"To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant; 73. The Abrahamic Covenant and then all the promises that were associated when that covenant would finally be fulfilled. The Jew. The Jew - my goodness, he should have disappeared hundreds of years ago. Great Britain will disappear as Great Britain. Because we’ll all be assimilated into these third world people that are multiplying ten children per woman where most of Western Nations are one child per woman. 
Germany today is a nation of 75-80 million people. We’re a nation of 270 million and if we’re going to disappear as a people in 50 years, then how in the world is this little nation of never more than 15 million people (most of the time more like 10 or 11 million, scattered out into all the nations of the world for now 2500 years) still there? What did God tell them? 
Deuteronomy 30:1 
"If any of thine be driven out unto the outmost parts of heaven, from thence will the LORD thy God gather thee, and from thence will he fetch thee: 5. And the LORD thy God, will bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed, and thou shalt possess it;...." 
That after Israel has been scattered amongst the nations, God will one day bring them back to their homeland. Well, the world doesn’t know this Book. 
This Book says that’s where they belong. All associated with the Jews of Eastern Europe. All right, so now if you’ll come back with me to Luke chapter 1. So when Zacharias spoke, Israel wasn’t ready for it and they rejected it all. Luke 1:73-74 
Verse 75: 
Luke 1:75-76 
"To give knowledge of salvation unto his people and by the remission of their sins through the tender mercy of our God whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us." 
Now come back to Hebrews chapter 10 and we come in at verse 14. 
Hebrews 10:14a 
Hebrews 10:14a 
"For by one offering (that death on the Cross) he has perfected…" Enjoy it. And that’s what God did. 
It was such a perfect work of redemption. All right, verse 15. 
Hebrews 10:15-16a 
The Nation of Israel, His Covenant people.) after those days, saith the Lord. Everything that God did to fulfill the covenant made with Israel has been our benefit. Israel. But, did the Law stop at the borders of Israel? Well, the same way with the work of this New Covenant. Jeremiah 31:31-32 
Now verse 33: 
Jeremiah 31:33 
Israel isn’t there yet. Because God says down there in verse 36 that if the sun and the moon and the stars would fall out of their orbit, then maybe Israel would cease being a nation. But until then, they’ll never stop being Israel.

To die for the sins of the world. Hebrews 10:1a 
"For the law having a shadow of good things to come,..." 
Abraham believed God. Oh, there were things back in that Old Testament that the religious leaders of Israel just knew there was something that they weren’t comprehending. 
I Peter chapter 1? Let’s begin at verse 7 and lead up to the main verse. I Peter 1:7-9 
2. Whom (speaking of Jesus Christ) having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory; 9. See, there again, even Peter is emphasizing the faith aspect. Verse 10: 
"Benoni." The King! All right, verse 11: 
"Searching…" Well, these old fellows were doing the same thing, searching the Old Testament. 
I Peter 1:11-12 
"Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, (the Benoni) and the (what?) (the Benjamin. The King, the Kingdom.) 12. Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us (Peter, speaking now after the fact) they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them who have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into." Peter is so clear and adamant here that these Old Testament Rabbis saw the shadow, but they could not construct the whole picture because God was keeping it secret. 
Deuteronomy 29:29. Deuteronomy 29:29a 
"The secret things…" Secret. Now listen, a secret is a secret! Deuteronomy 29:29 
"The secret things belong to the LORD our God: (and nobody else) but (flipside) those things which are revealed (that are no longer secret, see?) What’s the verse telling us? That God keeps things secret until He reveals it. God didn’t expect them to. Well, that’s the way God works. You see, the Apostle Paul, over and over, is making mention of that. 
Let’s go to Romans, chapter 16. God keeps things secret. Here in Romans 16 verse 25, this is one of my favorite verses. Romans 16:25 
Well what was secret about it? In Christ’s earthly ministry, Peter, James and John and the rest had no idea that God would turn to the Gentile world with this Gospel of Grace. Paul’s Gospel of believing in the death, burial, and resurrection for salvation hadn’t happened yet. And so Peter, James and John and the rest, they know nothing of going to Gentiles. If you don’t believe me, read Acts 8 verse 1. Saved that house full of Romans. God is going to take the Gospel to the Gentiles, I’ll see you later!" 
Isn’t that funny that those people couldn’t understand that? Why? Because this whole concept of going to the Gentiles with the Gospel of Grace was still kept secret. Now along comes the Apostle Paul and what’s the first thing God tells him? Those pagan Gentiles? All right, now look what Paul writes in Galatians chapter 1 verse 11, and this is such simple language. Galatians 1:11-12 
12. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, (that is by other men) but by the revelation of Jesus Christ." Well, you reveal it. And so this secret that’s been in the mind of God was not revealed until the Apostle Paul. Not all at once – little by little. 
All right, so he said, "I got it by revelation of Jesus Christ." I just pointed out to someone who called on the phone (as to where I stand concerning Christ’s earthly ministry), "Look, Christ’s earthly ministry was under the Law. It was directed to the children of Israel," and I quoted him to Romans 15 verse 8. Now we’re ready to reveal some secrets – read on. 
Galatians 1:13

Now verse 15. 
Galatians 1:15-16a 
"But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb, and called me by his grace, 16. To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among (who? The Gentiles)the heathen;…" A revelation of the Lord. Something held secret. To unload on this man things that had been kept secret. Now there’s another one in Ephesians chapter 3. Ephesians 3:1-2 
"For this cause I, Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you (what people?) Gentiles. (remember Gentile was a hated word in Israel) 2. If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:" 
Just maybe the ‘Body of Christ.’ That whole body of truth that is involved in the Gospel of the Grace of God – that that was revealed in this dispensation or administration of the Grace of God. "The beginning of the Body of Christ, to the end of the Body of Christ." 
It can’t because the whole body of truth was revealed to this man. So the secrets are now revealed. And oh, God expects us (like he told Moses), when He reveals it, to believe it. hid in God,…"

Nobody’s going to escape judgment except who? The believers. We’re not going to die. Paul says it. Let’s look at that in I Corinthians chapter 15 verse 51. I Corinthians 15:51a 
Now right there is the answer to most people’s problems. All right, read on. 
I Corinthians 15:51 
Now verse 52, how? 
Now I get people who try to tell me, "Well this is the last trumpet in Revelation." This trumpet is singular. God Himself!" 
"…for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, (it’d be the dead in Christ) and we shall be changed." 
We not going to die and be raised from the dead. I Corinthians 15:53 
Now let’s come back to Hebrews chapter 9 – Paul’s reference of death and judgment is not a reference to the believer, but rather to the unbeliever. And remember that’s the vast majority of people. 
Hebrews 9:27 
"And as it is appointed unto men once to die (physically. They’re going to go through death and after death, now what happens?) Come back with me to John’s Gospel chapter 5, beginning with verse 28. John 5:28 
Everybody that has lived a physical life and died) shall hear his voice." 
God’s voice. And when God speaks, they’ll come forth from their place – as lost people and the saved. Verse 29: 
John 5:29 
"And shall come forth; (now here God separates them,) they who have done good (in other words, people of faith, that’s the only good that a man can do is have faith in what God has said) unto the resurrection of life; (Eternal life. Into God’s presence. The lost have remained in unbelief. They’ve never exercised faith. "Condemnation." Horrible thought. Before the Righteous Judge. Revelation 20:11-12a 
The dead of humanity) small and great, (the great emperors, the great politicians, the corporate CEO’s, all of them, small and great, and they’re going to be resurrected to) stand before God;" 
Jesus Christ is going to be the Judge. The Righteous Judge. Revelation 20:12b 
"…and the books (plural, see?) were opened: and another book (singular) was opened, which is the book of life: (to show the lost that their name was not in that book) and the dead(lost) were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works." 
So the dead were judged out those things which were written in the books (plural) according to their works. God’s record. Good people who have never done anything vile. They’ve never done anything, what we would call wicked or sinful, but they’ve never become partakers of Paul’s Gospel of I Corinthians 15:1-4 and Romans 10:9-10 and 13. It’s unbelief. Come back with me to Matthew chapter 10, and again in chapter 11. But let’s start in chapter 10 of Matthew. Matthew 10:15 
Matthew 10:16 
Jewish cities. Chorazin. Bethsaida. Capernaum is also mentioned in verse 23. Matthew 11:20-22 
21. Woe unto thee Chorazin.! Woe unto thee, Bethsaida! (now these were all Jewish cities.) Now verse 23, Capernaum, once a beautiful city up there on the northern shores of the Sea of Galilee. Matthew 11:23 
Jesus performed miracle after miracle in the city of Capernaum. God’s going to judge according to His merit scale, not humanity’s. The Great White Throne is going to be awful. Revelation 20:12b-13 
"…and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. So don’t ever think for a minute that God won’t have time to judge every individual. Revelation 20:14a 
"And death and hell (the abiding place of unbelievers since Cain) were cast into the lake of fire." 
What is death? Death is a separation. Physical death is the separation of the soul and spirit from the physical body. Revelation 20:15 
Let’s come back to Hebrews chapter 9, and verse 27 again. 
Hebrews 9:27-28b 
"And it is appointed unto men once to die (unless they become believers and they live to see the Rapture. But otherwise – death hits every human being sooner or later.) but after this the judgment: (in the Great White Throne) 28. So Christ was once (once, contrary to what so many people think) offered to bear the sins of many;…" The whole human race. I know I probably shook a few people up. When Christ died and finished the work of the Cross, how many sins of the world did He forgive? Everybody’s! The Atoning Blood had covered his sin. They’ve already been reconciled to God. Come back with me to II Corinthians chapter 5, and let’s drop in at verse 14: 
II Corinthians 5:14 
"For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, (or conclude) that if one died for (how many?) Now the next verse, 
II Corinthians 5:15 
all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again."

Hebrews 9:11a 
In heaven. It’s going to be beyond human comprehension. Alright, so verse 11, finishing it. 
Hebrews 9:11b 
Hebrews 9:12 
"Neither by the blood of goats and calves, (as we just saw in the previous verses in our last program) but by his own blood (the Blood of the Cross, on Calvary as the high priest entered behind the veil with the blood of an animal. This high Priest, Christ Jesus Himself) enters into the holy place, (in heaven. In other words into the presence of God the Father. Not with the blood of bulls and calves) having obtained eternal redemption for us." 
With His own Blood we have the redemption. How did He approach the Father in the Holy of Holies in heaven presenting His own Blood at the Mercy Seat of the Throne Room? Remember Aaron and the following priests came in behind the veil with the blood of animals, so Christ came in with His own Blood. I think we did it when we taught the gospel of John verse by verse. John 20:1 
when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre." 
John 20:2 
Peter doesn’t say, "Well, Mary, we know! John 20:3 
"Peter therefore went forth, and the other disciple, and came to the sepulchre." 
With all those Roman guards stationed with threat of their lives if anybody would try to take the corpse. John 20:4 
"So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre." 
I think this is all so practical because we’re pretty confident that Peter was quite a bit older than John and so the young man shows his athletic ability. And so John outruns Peter, and gets to the sepulchre first. But of course, John is more timid than Peter and so he doesn’t go right in. John 20:5-6 
So Peter) went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie." Now verse 7. 
John 20:7 
John 20:8 
John 20:9 
"For as yet they (Peter and John and I guess I can safely include Mary Magdalene) knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead." Plain English. Now verse 10: 
John 20:10-11 
"Then the disciples went away again unto their own home. 11. But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre," 
What in the world caused Peter and John to exit so quickly and go? Angels. 
John 20:12-15a 
13. And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? 15. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? Whom seeketh thou? Why, first and foremost does not Mary recognize the resurrected Christ? Why do you suppose Mary did not recognize Jesus, as He’s now standing there in human form, bodily? Isaiah 52:13-14a 
All the way up through human history, they have been able to torture men beyond human comprehension, but,nobody under the most extreme torture ever had their facial appearance so distorted and so marred as Christ’s was on the Cross. All the sin of the world was laid on Christ as He hung on that Cross. Alright, so now if you’ll come back to John, use just a little bit of human logic. Looking at verse 15 again: 
John 20:15b 
Now Jesus speaks in verse 16. 
John 20:16a 
"Jesus saith unto her, Mary…." 
Iris and I are learning that when we’re in strange places people recognize our voice far before they’ll recognize our facial appearance and you just watch for it. John 20:16b 
"…She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master." John 20:17a 
"Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not:…’" 
Mary, don’t you hug me. Why? 
John 20:17b-19 
18. Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her. Back to Hebrews chapter 9 verses 11 and 12 again: 
Hebrews 9:11-12a 
"But Christ (Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified, now resurrected) being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, (in other words, this glorious tabernacle in the heavenlies) 12. Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place,…" Not the one behind the veil as it was on earth, but he entered into the Holy of Holies in the Heavenlies, into the very presence of the merciful, gracious God, not with the blood of bulls and calves but with his own Blood. 
Alright verses 13 and 14: 
Hebrews 9:13-14 
"For if the blood of bulls and goats, or the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, (if it could) sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: (in that old economy) 14. How much more(oh, beyond comparison!) shall the blood of Christ, (you cannot compare the efficacy of animal’s blood with this divine Blood of Christ) who through the eternal Spirit offered himself (as the supreme sacrifice. When we come in under that shed Blood of Christ by faith in His death, burial and resurrection; we now have full access to God.

Alright, back to where we left off - we were in Hebrews chapter 9 and again, we’re just trying to show that everything that went before was God ordained and even though it wasn’t perfect from man’s side, it was from God’s. Hebrews 9:6a 
That is by God Himself. Now continuing the verse: 
Hebrews 9:6b-7a 
"… the priests (the priests of Israel, all Levites remember) went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God. So daily, the priests would begin with the animal sacrifices out here at the brazen altar; they would stop at the laver of cleansing and wash and wash and wash. Remember the Day of Atonement could not take away Israel’s sin. Matthew 12:38-39 
(now you remember, the Jews were always requiring a sign. And His answers are in red if you have a red letter edition) 39. Matthew 12:40 
In the heart of the earth." Now I can never emphasize enough that even though He was on earth in the flesh, He never stopped being the Creator God of Genesis 1:1. And of course, this is what Hebrews has been showing; that Christ was totally God in the flesh. Luke 16:19-21 
Now verse 22. 
Luke 16:22a 
Now you want to remember that Abraham is 2,000 years before Christ’s earthly ministry. 
"…the rich man also died, and was buried: (but his soul is in Hell) 23. Now the rich man is in the same center of the earth of course, but he is not on the Paradise side, he is on the torment side. And so in Hell, this place of the departed, down here in the center of the earth, as Jesus said in Matthew 12, the rich man is in torment; and Abraham and Lazarus are over here on the Paradise side, all in the center of the earth. 
Luke 16:23-28 
"And in hell he (the rich man) lift up his eyes, being in torment, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 25. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. Now verse 29. 
Luke 16:29 
They’ve got the Word of God. Only God would probably narrow it down a little more and say, "they have Paul’s epistles, and Paul salvation message" You remember, what I’m always showing from Peter, Peter says, "that if you would have salvation, you go to the epistles of Paul for according to the wisdom given unto him, and found in I Corinthians 15:1-4 and Romans 10:9-10." Now verse 30. 
Luke 16:30-31 
"And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. Look at the next verse) 31. "And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets; (now remember this is an Old Testament economy, if they won’t listen to Moses and the prophets) neither will they be persuaded though one rose from the dead." 
What does God know? My, sometimes I guess we wonder, if only God could just sort of manifest Himself in some tremendous way people would believe. Alright so now we can establish that in the Old Testament economy before the Blood of Christ was shed, since animal blood could not take away the sin of even the greatest believer such as Moses and Abraham, they went down into the center of the earth into the Paradise side of Sheol. But when the Blood was shed and the work of the Cross was finished, that now we see as Paul teaches in Ephesians chapter 4, that it all falls in place again so perfectly, and so clearly. in Paradise." that the atoning Blood was now shed and He could take them out and now they could go into the Heavenlies into the presence of God because, because of Christ’s Blood their sins were totally removed." 
It was just a covering waiting for the finished work of the Cross. Alright, now let’s read on in Ephesians. 
Ephesians 4:8-9 
"Wherefore he saith, When he ascended, up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. Then verse 10. 
Ephesians 4:10 
What is it but that he descended first into the lower parts of the earth, took captive all these Old Testament believers, and took them up to Paradise which is now in heaven and torment of course now is enlarged, according to the Old Testament prophets. The torment side of Sheol now covers the whole area because Paradise is now in glory. 
Well, now let’s come back to Hebrews chapter 9 and verse 7, and see if we can make some more sense out of this: 
Hebrews 9:7-8 
Hebrews 9:9 
Animal blood could not do it. If the Cross hadn’t been completed and if the temple was gone, then there would have been nothing. But God made sure that they could keep on with that temple worship, they could still bring their sacrifices. Alright, now then, verse 10 - all of these things of tabernacle worship: 
Hebrews 9:10 
the time of reformation." Washing. Wash, wash, wash - in water.

Let’s begin where we left off in the last lesson, and that would be Hebrews chapter 8, and verse 3. Hebrews 8:1-2 
"For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law:" He couldn’t do that. Now verse 5. 
Hebrews 8:5a 
"(these priests of Israel, Judaism) Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle:…"The tabernacle at Mt. Sinai, in the wilderness. In other words, God is making sure that Moses builds that tabernacle according to the floor plan of the original, which is in Heaven. Now finishing verse 5. 
Hebrews 8:5b 
Let’s go to Exodus chapter 25 and verse 40. It all had to be according to God’s divine purposes. Now verse 40, and God is giving Moses instructions: 
Exodus 25:40 
It had to) be exactly as God had given him the pattern) which was shewed thee in the mount." Alright now then, come to the last chapter of Exodus, chapter 40, and we’ll look at verse 33. Exodus 40:33-34 
So Moses finished the work. 34. Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle." Exodus 40:35 
Alright, let’s come back to Hebrews once again finishing verse 5. 
Hebrews 8:5b 
Everything exactly as God had instructed. Now verse 6, here we come again, what’s the word?) Yes, Moses and all the craftsmen of Israel worked almost a year formulating all the things that went into that earthly tabernacle there out in the foot of Mt. Sinai.) 
Hebrews 8:6a 
You see the constant comparison of that which was good, the Mosaic system, the Mosaic Law. Hebrews 8:6 
Now we know God’s going to do wondrous things yet with Israel someday, but the promises that He has given to us as believers, as members of the Body of Christ are beyond comprehension. Now verse 7. Hebrews 8:7a 
"For if that first covenant had been faultless,…" That first covenant of Law wasn’t faultless, but if it had been; had it been faultless: 
Hebrews 8:7b 
If you’ve got something that’s perfect, leave it alone. Now let’s go into verse 8, then I’m going to stop and digress. 
Hebrews 8:8-9 
God did. God found fault with His own system of Law) he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the House of Israel and with the House of Judah: 9. Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; (which was the covenant of Law) because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord." 
The Shekinah Glory is right up there above the Tabernacle. Unbelief! The system of Law. It was not perfect. Galatians 4:8-9. 
Galatians 4:8 
"Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, (they were pagans remember) ye did service unto them who by nature are no gods." Now verse 9. 
Galatians 4:9a 
"But now, (again, after they had come out of paganism, out of idol worship, they’d stepped into the Grace of God and Paul’s Gospel) after that ye have known God, (the true God) or rather (he says) are known of God,…" 
Galatians 4:9b 
How could you, when you came out of paganism and not only did you know God but God knew you. What were the weak and beggarly elements? The Law. It was weak and beggarly. Alright, let’s just turn the page while we’re in Galatians and go to chapter 5 verse 1. Don’t go back under the Law. Galatians 5:1 
yoke of bondage." The Law was just like a yoke around an oxen’s neck. Why put your believers under a yoke like oxen pulling a plow, that’s what the Law did. No, we’re talking about Gentile believers. What’s Peter admitting? The Law never helped them. The Law was not a successful thing for the Nation of Israel. All in this concept that the Law can do nothing except put us in bondage. Galatians 4:1-3 
Let’s come back to Hebrews once again, to verse 8. Since the Law was full of faults. Hebrews 8:8a 
Hebrews 8:8b 
"…Behold the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:" Now whenever you see God saying "I will"whether it’s back in Abrahamic Covenant or any other time, what is it? Speaking again of Moses and Aaron and the Tabernacle and so forth in the wilderness. And then verse 10. 
Hebrews 8:10 
Now let’s go all the way back to where we had the promise of that new covenant. Jeremiah 31:31 
"Behold, the days come, (here’s the prophecy) I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah." Now this is the covenant in verse 34.

Remembering, I’ve got to keep repeating it, that we’re dealing primarily with Jewish people who were still having a hard time separating themselves from any part of Judaism. Hebrews 7:25 
"Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him. Hebrews 7:26 
"For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;" 
Now then, verse 27.

Now I’ve always stressed when I teach Hebrews, look for the number of times where it tells us that Christ did these things "once." Verse 28.

"For the law (the Mosaic Law) maketh men high priests who have infirmity; (they’re human. Now, a lot of folks have a hard time understanding that I maintain that the Four Gospels cannot have our Gospel of Grace in them because Christ hadn’t died yet. Luke 18 verse 31. Luke 18:31

Now look at verse 34. Look what the Scripture says,

God did. Alright, now verse 28 again of Hebrews chapter 7. 
Hebrews 7:28 
"For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; (they’re going to die) but the word of the oath, which was since the law, (on this side of the Cross) maketh the Son,(Who we’ve been emanating all the way through Hebrews.) Everything that God required to satisfy the sins of mankind is accomplished. We understand the workings of it but the very mind of God behind it, why, why did He have to have a blood sacrifice? There again the word Trinity isn’t in your Bible, but the whole concept of a Triune God is and listen, there’s no way you can understand that except by faith. Because you see, while Christ was dead on the Cross, if He was the only person of the Godhead, then God would have been what? Dead. The Holy Spirit. Alright now the same way, the Son now had been set at the right hand of the Majesty on High and we pick that up now in chapter 8 verse 1. 
Hebrews 8:1 
I’m going to recap, Paul says. Now I always emphasize to people that Christ is not on a throne tonight. Again, I always like to emphasize, don’t picture Him sitting on a little chair and God the Father’s up here on some big throne. That’s not what we’re to do, but positionally in the heavenlies, we have God the Son, a Priest after the order of Melchisedec placed at the right hand of the Majesty on High. 
Now maybe Daniel chapter 7 will help a little bit in that. Let’s drop in at verse 9. I’m just doing this to show that Scripture fits with Scripture. Daniel 7:9 
There again, that’s just beyond our human understanding. Now verse 10, just to give us a little glimpse of this throne room of heaven. 
Daniel 7:10 
Millions) ministered unto him, (millions of what? The Angelic hosts.) Now jump over to verse 13. 
Daniel 7:13-14 
one like the Son of man (see here it is, way back here in the Old Testament. What I want you to see, is this relationship between God the Father on the throne at this time and God the Son as He comes before Him. 
Alright now back to Hebrews chapter 8, you’ve got this same picture of how this high Priest after the order of Melchisedec is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens. Where’s Heaven? Now verse 2 of Hebrews chapter 8. 
Hebrews 8:2 
"A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man." 
As a "minister of the sanctuary" it could possibly take the point that God the Son is at the very core of the Body of Christ. He is the Core of the true dwelling place of God, which is you and I as believers. We are the temple of the Holy Spirit. 
I Corinthians 3:16 
"Know you not that ye (now remember, Paul always writes to believers) are the temple (see, the dwelling place) of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you." 
Come over to chapter 6 in the same book, and it’s repeated in verse 19. 
(Paul writes) know ye not that your body (this physical body of flesh and bone) is the temple (or the dwelling place) of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own. (why?) 20. For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s." 
It now belongs to God. It’s His dwelling place." 
Alright, now you can come back to Hebrews chapter 8. You’ve got to remember the Temple is still operating in Jerusalem when this is being written. Now look at verse 9. 
Exodus 25:9 
What’s a pattern? The Book of Hebrews tells us it’s in heaven. And so there is a likeness of the Temple format ‘in the heavens’ not made by men but created by God Himself. And it was into that Temple that Christ went in as our high priest.

Hebrews 7:11 
"If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, [in other words, if the Law and Judaism were all that there was to be gained] (for under it the people received the law,) [well if that’s the case] what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?" Remember Aaron was the brother of Moses and was the first priest of Israel. And that priesthood carried all the way through to the time of Christ and even though the veil was rent in twain when Christ died on the Cross, the Jewish people sewed it back up, at least according to legend. Now verse 12. 
Hebrews 7:12 
"For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law." It was no longer necessary to practice Temple worship and sacrifices and tithing and all those things that were demanded by the Law because we now are under a priesthood that was not out of Aaron or Levi, but from the priesthood of Melchisedec (Christ). 
Hebrews 7:13 
This priest didn’t even come from the Levitical priestly tribe. This priest came from the kingly tribe of Judah. Saul the first king, was from the line of Benjamin, but Judah was the designated tribe to produce the kings of Israel. So, it’s out of this kingly tribe that this priest Melchisedec comes, which is Jesus Christ. Verse 13 again. 
Hebrews 7:13 
Remember we read all the verses. No man, unless they were from the lineage of Levi, could possibly exercise the role of a priest. Verse 14. 
Hebrews 7:14-15 
A totally different priest, not of the Aaronic, not of the tribe Levi but out of the tribe of Judah. Now verse 16. 
Hebrews 7:16a 
Here again I feel Melchisedec was a theophany of Christ in the Old Testament. Hebrews 7:16a 
"Who is made, not after the law of a carnal (or a fleshly) commandment,…" It was from God’s point of view. 
The Law was a minister of death? Because it had no power to help people keep the Law. Romans 3:19 
"Now we know that what things soever the law (the Ten Commandments) saith, it saith to them who are under the law: (that is Israel) that every mouth (the whole world now not just Israel) may be stopped and all the world (not just Israel. The law condemned the whole world. People are not saved under the Law. "That the Law just simply makes man guilty." Now look at the next verse. 
Romans 3:20 
for by the law is the knowledge of (not life but what?) sin." That’s all the Law can do is show man their sin. Not a word in Scripture ever gives the Law credit for bringing people to salvation. Never! It filled the gap between Moses and Christ, yes. II Corinthians 3:3 
Now verses 4 and 5. 
II Corinthians 3:4-6 
Israel understood right from wrong by virtue of what the Law said. They understood it was wrong to murder because the Law said "Thou shalt not murder." Remember we’ve got something better than the written Law. The indwelling Holy Spirit. The Spirit will never tell a believer to go and steal. The Holy Spirit will never tell a believer to gossip. Now looking at verse 6 again: 
II Corinthians 3:6-7a 
"Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter (The Commandments) but of the spirit (now here it comes) for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. The Ten Commandments. People can’t understand that, but I hope you do. It was because all the Law could do was condemn. It couldn’t give anybody life. Romans 6:23 
death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Now coming back to II Corinthians 3:7, let’s finish verse 7. 
II Corinthians 3:7 
"But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones was glorious, (it was from God’s point. The Law has to go. When Christ finished the work of the Cross. Turn to Colossians chapter 2. Six hundred thirteen rules and regulations made up the Mosaic Law at the time of Christ. Puts it to death. So under this whole new economy, where we’re not under the Law, we’re under grace. We also have a new high priest. Not of the priesthood of Aaron and Levi, but one who was of the priests of "the most high God." "The most high God" who was the God of everybody, not just Israel. And so this high priest is going to represent every tongue and tribe and nation. Hebrews 7:15-16 
Hebrews 7:17a 
How long did the priesthood last of the priests of Israel? When the priest died, his priesthood went with him. Alright, verse 18. 
Hebrews 7:18 
Oh, the Law had its purpose. How much effect did the Law have on the behavior of the Israelites? Jezebel. How many of the Jews at Christ’s time were true exemplary believers? Hebrews 7:19 
This whole system now of the grace of God which goes out to the whole human race.

Okay, back to Hebrews chapter 7 and we’re going to continue on in our study of this Melchisedec, a high priest of "the most high God." Now I always have to emphasize; God is God. We don’t have two or three different God’s in Scripture. We have One God! Of course, Jesus Christ, born in Nazareth, was the appearance in the flesh of that same God. So, when we come to Melchisedec I have to feel we’re speaking of the same God. Jesus Christ in a theophany, as a priest of The Most High God. 
So now as you come into verse 3, this Melchisedec, the king of peace was: 
Hebrews 7:3a 
Well, in human form for a little while. Alright, the last part of verse 3. 
Hebrews 7:3b 
"…abideth a priest (not a year at a time. Now in verse 4. Paul, and remember who he’s talking to, is talking to Jews who had embraced Jesus of Nazareth as the Messiah but they were still practicing the Law. We’ve covered that when we went into chapter 6 verse 1. "Now leave the principles of the first words of Christ?" Alright, so now verse 4 where Paul says: 
Hebrews 7:4a 
"Man" M-A-N. Come back to I Timothy chapter 2 and verse 5. 
"For there is one God, (I’ve already stressed that) and one mediator between God and men, the (what?) man (the man!) Christ Jesus;" 
Alright now come on over to verse 9 still in Acts chapter 1. Remember the eleven saw Him, and Paul rehearses it in I Corinthians 15, the resurrection chapter. Now we’re not talking about an invisible spirit. We’re talking about a human appearance. Some invisible spirit going up? So let’s find it in chapter 2, and let’s drop down to verse 8. 
Colossians 2:8 
"Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ." That we are supposed to stay true to Christ! Now the next verse. 
Colossians 2:9 
"For in him (Christ) dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead (how?) bodily." 
Bodily. In human form. Fixed breakfast. Never forget that. "The most high God." Then verse 5 of Hebrews chapter 7. 
Hebrews 7:5a 
Law,…" 
Another verse comes to mind that I never thought of last night. Flip back to Romans chapter 6, and here it’s as plain as day that tithing, the ten percent, was part of the Law. Remember I want you to see what Romans chapter 6 says about the Law, and let’s drop in at verse 14. Romans 6:14 
Now here it is) for ye are not under the law, but under grace." 
We’re not under any law. You’ve heard me say that a few hundred times. We are not under the Law but we’re under grace. The Law of tithing was set aside, along with all the Law, when Christ finished the work of the Cross and put us under Grace. The Holy Spirit! Now let’s come back again to Hebrews chapter 7. Now reading verse 5 again. 
Hebrews 7:5 
Not from any Gentiles) though they were come out of the loins of Abraham:" Naturally, because Abraham was the father of all these tribes of Israel. 
Well, what promises? Hebrews 7;7 
Christ. The Law was good but what’s better? Grace. Now verse 8. 
Hebrews 7:8 
Now verse 9. 
Hebrews 7:9 
"And as I may so say, Levi (the priestly tribe, remember) also, who receiveth tithes, (now this is tough) paid tithes in Abraham." That we can have faith like the man of faith, Abraham. And Abraham was not saved under Law. He was saved before the Law was given. Abraham believed God, Romans says, and it – his believing – was accounted unto him for righteousness. 
Then the Nation of Israel appeared, and then came the Law. But Abraham was never under any of the ramifications of the Law. Why did Levi pay tithes? 
Hebrews 7:10-11 
If the legal system of the Mosaic Law, the Levitical priesthood, the Temple worship, the sacrifices, the tithing, all the things that were part and parcel of the Law; had that been perfect would there have been a need for anything else? If you’ve got something perfect you leave it alone. "If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it." It was perfect from God’s side, naturally. God can’t make anything that isn’t perfect. Come back to Galatians chapter 4, verses 8 and 9. Galatians 4:8-9a 
"Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, (in other words, when they were still in their paganism) ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods. 9. But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God,…" What’s the weak and beggarly? The Law. Now if you think through all this, why was the Law beggarly? Turn the page to chapter 5 verse 1. 
Galatians 5:1 
What’s the yoke of bondage? The Law. Peter used the same word. Well, I guess our time is gone but we’ll come back and pick the next program up again in Hebrews chapter 7 - but always remember that the Law, the Temple worship for its time, it was good.

Hebrews 6:4-10 - Part 2 
"But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation,…" Notice how Paul calls them "beloved." Salvation. The whole reason for the Word of God is to bring lost mankind to a knowledge of salvation. If we go beyond that, that’s just by God’s good grace. 
The vast majority have spurned God. They’ve spurned His salvation. 
But, now Paul is admonishing these people - that he understands that they do have salvation and the things that accompany it. Salvation is not just a "fire escape." Let’s go back to Romans chapter 1 verse 16 and pick this whole thing up of salvation. I think most of you know this verse, where Paul writes: 
"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it (the Gospel) is the power of God unto (what?) salvation…" Salvation! Eternal life! 
Now, skip over to chapter 3, and we’re going to use some verses associated with this one crucial word – salvation. Verse 23, which I always call the very first step of faith to salvation and that is, we have to recognize that we’re sinners. That we have fallen short of the glory of God. 
"For all (Jew and Gentile, Black and White, rich and poor) have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" Why? Now verse 24, 
"Being justified…" What’s justification? It’s a result of salvation. When we enter into God’s great salvation, He justifies us, see? 
"Being justified freely by his grace (not by works) through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:" 
Paying the price to gain something back that was lost. Every sin was paid for. The price of redemption was paid and we experience it only by virtue of our salvation experience. 
Again, the other offshoot word of "salvation" in Scripture is "saved." Alright, so we have two great words right here in one verse. We are "justified freely through the redemption (or the process of paying the price) which is in Christ Jesus." Then verse 25: 
"Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood…." The price of redemption. With the precious blood of Christ." Now verse 26: 
"To declare, I say, at this time, his righteousness: that he (God in Christ) might be just,…." Oh I love these verses! We’re redeemed by placing our faith in that shed blood of Christ. We are justified when we believe the Gospel, that Christ died, was buried and rose again. And God is perfectly just in declaring us as justified. Not for salvation, but as a result of it. Now I’m going to Romans chapter 7 and the whole idea is that as a result of our salvation, God has now redeemed us, justified us. The Muslim world. World dominion. Work day and night. God intends us to be productive. 
"Wherefore, my brethren, (Paul writes) ye also are become dead to the law…" 
I remember in my younger days, hearing people say, "Well, that’s the preacher’s job. I know people hate to hear that! Now let’s go to Ephesians chapter 2 verse 4. Remember this is all jumping off from that word salvation in Hebrews chapter 6 as Paul was agreeing that the believing element of these Hebrews had salvation. 
"But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, 5. Even when we were dead in sins, (the offspring of Adam) hath quickened (or made us alive spiritually)us together with Christ, ( by grace are you saved") 6. 
We’re saved for the purpose of producing fruit, and that’s not "easy believeism." Never! 
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: (and you don’t work for a gift) 9. Not of works, (because if it was works then) any man should boast. (now we follow-up after salvation) 10. For we are his workmanship, (We are something now that God is working to form us and to prepare us for our service.) created in Christ Jesus unto good works, (Not for salvation I think that’s evident, but as a result of it.) which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." "Wherefore remember, (he’s writing to Gentiles. that ye being in times past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision…" Now verse 12. 
Ephesians 2:12 
"That at that time (while God was dealing with Israel back there in that Old Testament economy and during Christ’s earthly ministry and yes, even these Hebrews to whom Paul is addressing in the letter) ye (Gentiles) were without Christ, aliens from the commonwealth of Israel (we weren’t citizens of Israel. We were uncircumcised Gentiles)and strangers from the covenants of promise, (consequently where were the Gentiles before the Age of Grace?) having no hope, and without God in the world." Ephesians 2:13 
by the blood of Christ." Through the blood of Christ. And remember what the Book of Romans said concerning the blood of Christ? God has said that the blood of Christ has paid your sin debt. Alright, Hebrews chapter 6 verse 9 again,

Hebrews 6:4-10 
Here we are in chapter 6 of Hebrews. 
Hebrews 6:4a & 6a 
Remember we’re talking about Jews who are hanging on to Judaism. Hebrews 6:4-5 
5. And have tasted the good word of God, (oh they knew about Christ’s earthly ministry, and they knew all the Old Testament promises) and the powers of the world to come," 
Hebrews 4:6a 
"If (scary word isn’t it?) they (these people who had this much understanding) shall fall away…" 
This word that is translated "fall away" and I put it on the board ahead of time, in the Greek is ‘parapipto.’ This word is the only time it’s used in the whole New Testament. Where it’s translated in verse 6 that "if they shall fall away," it is a "parapipto," whereas the other word that we’re most familiar with like in II Thessalonians chapter 2 that "unless there is a falling away first" – that term is "apostasia" and it, too, is translated "falling away." Let’s come all the way back to Numbers chapter 5, and let’s just drop down to verse 12. Remember what we’re showing - that this Hebrew word "mahal" is the best parallel with the Greek word "parapipto" which is only used in Hebrews chapter 6. 
Let’s start with verse 11. 
Numbers 5:11-12 
Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, If any man’s wife go aside, and commit a (what’s the word?) trespass (that’s the Hebrew word "mahal") against him," (her husband) 
Ezekiel 14:12-13 
Backsliding would bring in God’s mercy and grace but this "scornfully turning the back" is an apostasy or a "parapipto" that is so scornful in it’s act that God has nothing left but judgment. Hebrews 6:6 
"If they shall fall away, (or if they shall turn their backs scornfully on these things that are now revealed to them, it is impossible) to renew them again unto repentance; (it’s impossible) seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame." 
We’re dealing with people who have claimed to be believers. Now I know I have taught, and I will continue to teach, that God never gives up on a lost person. Suicide. 
Does the man of the world, well let’s just use the Mafia for example. He lives a life of crime. Nobody associates him with Christ. Well what is that man doing? He is throwing reproach on the name of Christ because at one time he claimed to know Him. Now that’s the difference. 
They’ve never had anything to do with Christ. Alright, let’s just move on. Always remember that this word falling away (mahal) in Hebrews 6:6 is a far stronger act on the person’s behalf than the word apostasia that we see in II Thessalonians 2 where it says that unless there is a falling away before the anti-Christ would come. Let’s go to verse 7. 
Hebrews 6:7a 
Now we’re still talking about these same kind of people. These same people who have been enlightened. Alright now, the analogy is in verse 7: 
Hebrews 6:7 
Now there’s just another earthly illustration again of the believer. The believer is just like tilled land, and that tilled land is kept free of weeds so that it can produce. Mile after mile. Listen, there’s nothing more beautiful! Those soybean fields are just like velvet for miles on end. 
Alright, so it’s the "blessing of God." What’s the first word of verse 8? Hebrews 6:8a 
"But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected,…" Who wants a field full of briers? Now, the true believer is going to keep the weeds out. Show them from the Scripture. Oh, that we can get people to get such an understanding of Scripture. Now continue on in verse 8. 
Hebrews 6:8a 
Because those briers and weeds are so awful. A person’s life who is filled with briers and weeds almost brings people to the place of cursing. 
Hebrews 6:8b 
burned." Let me show you in I Corinthians chapter 3, and this is coming back into Paul dealing with us Gentiles but it’s the same God and the same God that inspired Paul to write to the Hebrews and to write all his other epistles. Here Paul is dealing with believers in their working for reward during their Christian life. Now we’re not dealing with any but believers and, remember, Corinthians had a lot of carnal believers, they were not spiritual. I Corinthians 3:12 
"Now if any man build upon this foundation (which is Jesus Christ. Verse 13: 
I Corinthians 3:13 
Gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay and stubble. Look at verse 14, 
"If any man’s work abide (it’s gold, silver and precious stones) which he hath built thereupon he shall receive a reward." 
Now verse 15, the carnal believer who has never really gotten into any service for the Lord. "If any man’s work shall be burned, (it’s wood, hay and stubble) he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved." It too is fire. Come back to Revelation chapter 20. 
14. And death and hell were cast into (what?) the lake of fire.

Hebrews 6:4-10
Here we are in chapter 6 of Hebrews.
Hebrews 6:4a & 6a
Remember we’re talking about Jews who are hanging on to Judaism. Hebrews 6:4-5
5. And have tasted the good word of God, (oh they knew about Christ’s earthly ministry, and they knew all the Old Testament promises) and the powers of the world to come,"
Hebrews 4:6a
"If (scary word isn’t it?) they (these people who had this much understanding) shall fall away…"
This word that is translated "fall away" and I put it on the board ahead of time, in the Greek is ‘parapipto.’ This word is the only time it’s used in the whole New Testament. Where it’s translated in verse 6 that "if they shall fall away," it is a "parapipto," whereas the other word that we’re most familiar with like in II Thessalonians chapter 2 that "unless there is a falling away first" – that term is "apostasia" and it, too, is translated "falling away." Hebrews 6:1-4 - Part 2 
We have no one underwriting us so we are totally dependent on the gifts of God’s people. And it’s amazing, oh it’s amazing how God provides! Paul begins his ministry, I always maintain around 40 AD. Remember I am always emphasizing that during Christ’s earthly ministry they were still keeping the Jewish Law. Then, of course, when we come into Paul’s ministry, the first thing that Paul makes so plain is "you’re not under the Law, you’re under Grace!" But you see, like the Book of Hebrews is telling us, a lot of these Jews had not yet made the break from Judaism and embraced Jesus as the Messiah - putting that behind them and moving into Paul’s doctrines of Grace. It is a struggle to just simply cut the ties of that old religion and step out here in Grace. Remember, human nature says, "I’ve got to do something," and that appeals to people. It’s Faith plus Nothing! Alright so now then, Paul is saying: 
Hebrews 6:1-2 
"Therefore, leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, 2. Leave behind these doctrines of baptisms, laying on of hands, repentance from dead works and resurrection of the dead. I’m going to stop right here a moment, and we’re going to jump clear back to Romans chapter 2, and even though it may not fit with my line of thinking as I prepared for these, I’m going to insert it here, because I want people to know that when I stand up and proclaim Paul’s Gospel of the Grace of God, it is because this is what God has mandated. And anybody that slips out into eternity with less than Paul’s Gospel for their Salvation is in trouble. Alright, Romans chapter 2 verse 16 and it’s a verse that can pretty much stand by itself. 
"In the day (That will be at the Great White Throne) when God shall judge (now you see, God won’t be the judge until the Great White Throne) the secrets of men…" 
What is his faith basis? Alright, let’s look at it. 
Romans 2:16 
"In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ (He’s going to be the judge. What is going to be the basis of Christ judging lost humanity? What did you do with Paul’s Gospel? And that’s why I stand up unashamed and proclaim Paul’s Gospel because this is what people have to hear. What is Paul’s Gospel? Yes, that Christ was the Son of God. That’s what we’ve seen in Hebrews. It was perfect. So you get into chapter 2, what did God do? He rested! Hebrews 1:1-3 
"God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets. Everything was perfect! It was perfect! And then He offers it to the human race, through the Apostle Paul. I’ve got to do this, I’ve got to do that." And that’s why God is so displeased with that kind of unbelief. 
Now, in verse 3 we find a word that raises eyebrows. 
Hebrews 6:3 
"And this we will do (Paul writes. Wow! if God permit." 
God is always going to be involved in every decision we make. And so - even these Jews that Paul is admonishing to move on, get away from all the dead works of Judaism, and move on into this whole finished work of Grace - can they do it alone? "If God permit." I maintain that yes, God is going to make the initial move. Hebrews 6:3 
"This we will do, if God permit." 
Does God want anyone to be lost? No! God doesn’t want anyone to perish. Salvation is a one-time thing. Alright, here’s the warning, verse 4, 
Hebrews 6:4 
What’s the Scripture telling us? To have the Holy Spirit open their understanding. Now, we’ve got plenty of examples in Scripture. Remember it? God said, "It’s all there for you, and I’ll push the Canaanites out. Well, I think that’s how God works. Wept all night. Alright, let’s look at some more Scripture. This again back in the Lord’s earthly ministry and from the lips of the Lord Himself. Mark 4:3-6 
Now verse 7. 
Mark 4:7-8 
Mark 4:14 
"The sower soweth (what?) the word." We’re not talking about wheat. We’re talking about Spiritual things. Only a little small portion took root. 
Alright, come back to Hebrews just a moment. John’s Gospel chapter 4 and you all know the account. Jesus and the woman of Samaria at the well. John 4:7-8 
"There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. Now of course, I always call this a unique situation in Christ’s earthly ministry. So for the woman of Samaria, what was it? A divine appointment! John 4:9-10 
for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. 10. Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water."
