GALATIANS 1:1 - 1:14 - PART 2 
Remember, as we introduced the Book of Galatians, Paul is frantically responding to false teachings that have come into the congregations that he had established up in Asia Minor, which is what we call today, Turkey. Now verse 13. 
Galatians 1:13a 
"For ye have heard of my conversation (manner of living) in time past in the Jews' religion,..." 
So Paul was high up in the echelons of Judaism as it was known at the time of Christ with the Temple worship. Now reading on: 
Galatians 1:13b 
"...how that beyond measure (it was despicable) I persecuted the church (assembly) of God, and wasted it:" 
Now I use the word `assembly' here on purpose because too many people get confused by thinking that the word "church" always means what we call the Body of Christ, and it doesn't. Always remember the word translated `church' in our New Testament is the Greek word `ecclesia' (it can be spelled with two c's or two k's). All that word meant in its true translated form was "a called out assembly." Remember that? Well, that wasn't a church, but it was a called-out assembly because God called Israel out of Egypt unto Himself. And it was called an ecclesia. 
The group of Jewish believers in Jerusalem was a called-out assembly, or ecclesia, in Jerusalem because they had separated themselves from the run-of-the-mill Judaisers. I maintain they were not yet the Body of Christ. Assembly. So the assembly was being addressed and warned that the Roman authorities were going to call them into question. Galatians 13b 
"...I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it:" 
So Paul persecuted the assembly and wasted it. Let's turn to Chapter 7 verse 57. Here we have Stephen now, who has addressed the leaders of the Nation of Israel. Saul was sincere - sincerely wrong; but he was sincere in hating these Jews who had embraced Jesus of Nazareth. Look at Stephen's account in Acts 7. 
59. And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, `Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.' 60. And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, `Lord, lay not this sin to their charge.' Never in all of the scriptural accounts did the Twelve address Him as "Jesus" They called Him either "Lord" or "Master," but they never called him Jesus. I've said before that the only appropriate address for Him today is either Christ, or the Lord Jesus, or the Lord Jesus Christ, or the Lord, but don't ever approach Him as just Jesus because it is not a scriptural application. Now come over to Chapter 9 and we'll pick up a description of Saul of Tarsus in his hatred for anything connected to the followers of Jesus Christ. 
Now remember, I've mentioned in a lesson or two that the Judaistic religious people had clout with Rome. Also remember that the Jews from one end of the Roman empire to the other would send vast amounts of money to the Temple as offerings, and never was a dollar lost. Now read on: 
Saul was vicious, he had no mercy. He didn't care whether they were young or old, or men or women; if they had embraced Jesus of Nazareth as their Messiah, then Saul's attitude was, "They're not worth living, get rid of them, they are nothing but a threat to my religion." Now come back to the Book of Galatians. And the poor man never got over that for hurting so many. Now verse 13. 
Galatians 1:13 
A lot of these Jewish believers who had to flee Jerusalem, for fear of Saul of Tarsus and the other religious persecutioners, did migrate up into the area of Galilee and some as far north as Damascus. Now verse 14. Galatians 1:14a 
"And profited in the Jews' religion..." 
Wealth. Judaism was no different. Why did Jesus drive out the money changers in the Temple? A market place right in the Temple. The same motivation that people have today. Old Saul was right in the middle of that. Hey, religion has always been that way. I tell people to look at any religion on the face of the earth tonight, go up into the higher echelons and you'll find the same thing. The more corrupt people get, the more corruption there is, and corruption just keeps feeding. Listen, this was Saul of Tarsus. This guy was a Pharisee of the Pharisees. Now read on about his account. 
Galatians 1:14a 
"And profited in the Jews' religion..." 
You know I detest the word `religion.' Paul says, `I was profiting in the Jews' religion,' because it was a bad, corrupt system. What did Paul call him? Now finishing the verse: 
Galatians 1:14 
Always remember this, "Religion always banks on traditions rather than doctrine. It's the same thing, it's religion, and all of its demands on poor unsuspecting people. Galatians 1:14b 
Remember, his father must have been some kind of a man of influence as a Roman citizen, because Paul, remember, was also a Roman citizen, so that tells you something about his father and probably his grandfather.

GALATIANS 1:1 - 1:14 
It's just the vast difference between Law and Grace. Jesus, during His earthly ministry, speaking to the Nation of Israel, the Jews under the Law said: 
"For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15. But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."Now the Holy Spirit revealed to the apostle Paul under Grace why we should forgive: 
Ephesians 4:32 
"And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath (already) forgiven you." 
So Israel came under the Law. Not the rest of the world, just Israel. 
A Jew today can be saved under Grace as well as a Gentile. But it is primarily God's time of calling out Gentiles from among the unbelieving world. So now let's begin in verse 7. 
Galatians 1:7 
"Which is not another; (Gospel) but there be some that trouble you and would pervert the gospel of Christ." 
Remember the Gospel for the Body of Christ was only revealed to Paul so we need to turn to I Corinthians Chapter 15, and look at those first four verses. This is the clearest explanation of Paul's Gospel that you can find anywhere. Now he will refer to it as the Gospel of the Grace of God, the Gospel of God, my Gospel, the Gospel according to the revelation of the mysteries, but regardless how he refers to it, it's this Gospel. 
I Corinthians 15:1-4 
"Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel (not a Gospel, not a perverted Gospel, not a corrupt Gospel, but the Gospel) which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, (remember Paul even addressed the carnal believer at Corinth as saints.) and wherein ye stand; 2. Now come back to Galatians Chapter 1, verse 8. Oh the horrors that are going to befall people who are guilty of what Paul is talking about in verse 8. Galatians 1:8 
"But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, (and I just showed you that Gospel which was, that Christ died for you, was buried, and rose again, and if they preach any other than that unto you for salvation) let him be accursed." 
Paul is talking about an eternal separation from God, an eternal doom to these people who are corrupting and are perverting the pure Gospel of Grace. Now verse 9. Galatians 1:9 
"As we said before, so say I now again, `If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, (from the lips of this apostle) let him be accursed.'" 
What is apostasy? Is that something that the apostles taught? Now remember the time element (1971) That man made the statement that he could never envision the apostasy of the Church at that time. Galatians 1:10 
"For do I now persuade men, or God? (who is Paul serving? Paul didn't have to be beholden to anybody. So Paul didn't have to worry about losing his pay, so he didn't have to serve men.) for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ." 
Hey, you can't serve both, you cannot please God and man. Ephesians 3:1,2 
"For this cause (what he had just written in Chapter 2 especially) I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for (what people?) you Gentiles, (now back in the Old Testament everything was for Israel's benefit. But this mans apostleship is for our benefit as Gentiles.) 2. If ye have heard of the dispensation (this period of time when God is calling out primarily the Gentile Body of Christ, the Church in this administration) of the grace of God which is given me (and then from me ) to you-ward:" 
God revealed to the apostle Paul these doctrines of Grace, and what did Paul do with them? Moses took it to Israel and Israel alone. But the apostle Paul takes these revelations of the doctrines of Grace to everyone. Now coming back to Galatians Chapter 1, let's read verse 10: 
Galatians 1:10 
"For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ." 
It would be utterly impossible to be a servant or bond slave of Christ if Paul seeked to please men. Now verse 11. Now verse 11: 
Galatians 1:11 
What is the apostle Paul claiming? Now verse 12: 
Galatians 1:12 
"For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, (by man) but by the revelation of Jesus Christ." 
I Corinthians 15:5 
Now verse 6: 
I Corinthians 15:6-8 
You won't see the word `Cross' in those little Jewish epistles. Paul says, "We preach Christ crucified." 21. And he (the resurrected ascended Lord) said unto me, `Depart: (from Jerusalem) for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles.'" Now if you will come back to Galatians again and verse 12. 
Now verse 12:

Now verse 13: 
Galatians 1:13a 
Why did the Holy Spirit inspire the apostle Paul to use that term for Judaism? There was no saving power in the Judaism of Christ's day.

GALATIANS 1:7 
This verse is probably the clearest statement concerning the Trinity that you can find anywhere in Scripture, next to Christ's baptism. Now here in this verse we have the apostle Paul making reference also to the three Persons of the Godhead in a pure unadulterated statement. Now verse 14: 
II Corinthians 13:14 
"The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, (The Father is implied) and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen." 
Now it's interesting that, normally when we speak of the Trinity, out of habit we put them in the order of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Paul changes the order of the three. Paul puts Christ first rather than the Father. Never. You've all heard me teach that there is no such thing as God the Father having power over God the Son, and over the Spirit or vice versa. Here is where the Jewish people in their Old Testament background refer to Christianity as a polytheism. They call us a religion of three Gods. But we're not three Gods, it's three Persons in one God. Colossians 2:8,9 
Now backing up a little bit to Colossians Chapter 1. Colossians 1:15-19 
"Who (speaking of God the Son and the redeeming Blood in verses 13 and 14) is the image of the invisible God, (the Godhead) the first born of every creature: (in other words Christ was pre-eternal in His existence just like God the Father, and God the Spirit.) Remember now this is speaking of God the Son) 18. Looking at verse 14 again: 
II Corinthians 13:14 
"The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen." 
Always be ready when people ask questions. The city to whom this letter of Galatians was written. Now as we study the Book of Galatians we're going to be dealing with Paul's letter to these people in this very area where we covered his first missionary journey. Antioch of Pisida, Lystra and Derbe. Now to this letter of Galatians which is only six chapters. I had a letter today from someone who said, "Les I'm finding that most people hate Paul's doctrines of Grace." Don't let these people pervert the Gospel by adding something to it. 
Now time-wise Galatians was written probably a couple of years before the Corinthian letters. Remember the Books that Paul wrote are not in the order in which he wrote them. Paul's letters have always been in this exact order as we have them today. The whole theme of this letter is to convince the Galatians and us that we are not under Law, we're under Grace. 
Galatians 1:1 
"Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;)" 
Now, of what does Paul immediately remind his followers? Now verse 2: 
Galatians 1:2 
"And all the brethren which are with me, (that was his traveling companions) unto the churches of Galatia: 3. Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ." 
Now, in verse 4, right off the bat we find Paul bringing out the Gospel by which we are saved. Galatians 1:4,5 
"Who (our Lord Jesus Christ of verse 3) gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father: 5. To whom be glory for ever and ever. I Corinthians 15:1-4) How that Christ gave Himself. Philippians 2:5-7 
"Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6. Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: (He was God!) II Corinthians 5:21 
For example when Abraham was going to offer Isaac: just when he's ready to fulfill the command from God to offer his son Isaac, what does God provide in the thicket? The ram. The substitute. Now the same way with Christ. Now verse 8: 
Philippians 2:8 
"And being found in fashion (form) as a man, (totally man, but also totally God) he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, (the most horrible death ever devised) even the death of the cross." 
Now back to Galatians Chapter 1 and let's look at verse 4 again. 
Galatians 1:4a 
Now reading on into verse 6, and here we find Paul getting to the heart of the matter of why he is writing this letter. Practice circumcision, practice Temple worship or whatever was applicable. So Paul says: 
Galatians 1:6 
"I marvel (I can't comprehend) that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:" 
Paul couldn't comprehend how these people, as we saw in Thessalonians in the last program, turned from idols to the living God, and now they're not satisfied with just Grace, now they're being hoodwinked to go under legalism. Paul tells them that they are moving from the Grace of Christ into another gospel. Galatians 1:7

II CORINTHIANS 11:22 
Remember we were talking in our last lesson about Paul's thorn in the flesh (which we do not claim to have the only answer). Here God gives him the reason for keeping the man humbled and evidently putting him through all the trials and sufferings. 
II Corinthians 12:8,9a 
It has to be done as a weak vessel that God has seen fit to use. 
I Corinthians 1:26 
"For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:" 
God doesn't go to the kings and queens of world, nor does he usually go to the ivy covered halls of universities for his servants. He never has. So Paul is really an exception to the rule. Do you remember back there in Exodus. Now the same way with the apostle Paul. Now reading verse 27. Instead of God choosing the noble one or the highly educated: 
I Corinthians 1:27,28 
"But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28. I'm a nobody and I still claim that, and that's why I feel God has seen fit to use us. God does not use that which the world thinks is proper and has been rightly fitted for service. Now verse 29, and here is given the same concept to why Paul was given the thorn in the flesh. 
I Corinthians 1:29,30 
(God won't have it.) 30. But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:" 
Those are things that God accomplishes and no man can take credit for it. Now coming back to II Corinthians Chapter 12. Now finishing verse 9: 
II Corinthians 12:9b 
Paul wasn't wishing for power and circumstance, and political clout, he cared for none of that. God could. Oh the little Jewish communities of these cities did, but the Jews never evangelize; the Jews never took their knowledge out to the pagan Gentiles. 
So when Paul comes into the cities that we talked about earlier as he traveled on his missionary journeys, every one of these cities were abject pagan idolaters who knew nothing of the God of creation. Well, it was the power of God when the Gospel was preached. At least most of our American people have a concept of God. I read recently that 2/3 of the American people are sure that one day they're going to stand before God, now that's hard to believe isn't it? 
Remember Paul didn't have that kind of an advantage. He didn't approach people who know that there was a God. He didn't approach people who had any concept of Biblical morality. By teaching the Word of God. II Corinthians 12:9b 
Paul wasn't looking for some gimmick to get people's attention. Simply because he preached Christ crucified, buried, and risen from the dead. That's the power of the Gospel, and even though we can't understand it, God in His own way will bring people to a knowledge of the truth): 
As soon as Paul saw these people converted out of paganism what did they do? 9. For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;" 
Here Paul could come into a pagan city with all of its pagan statues and their gods and goddesses, and he would preach how God came in the flesh and went to that Cross, and was raised from the dead, and they believed it. Wonder of wonders. Anyway, there was such an impact from this one man preaching the Gospel that the world in general said, "That man is turning the empire upside down." Now coming back to II Corinthians Chapter 12. 
II Corinthians 12:12 
II Corinthians 12:14a 
Paul wanted believers sold out to Christ. I dare say, myself included, that we would all like to be totally sold out to God. But you see it is almost totally impossible, it seems, for a man to be totally, completely sold out to God. But this is what God is looking for. I think the apostle Paul probably did. Anyway Paul turned his back on everything in order to take the Gospel to these pagan ungodly, immoral Gentiles. Now verse 15. 
II Corinthians 12:15 
After all Peter was with Christ, where Paul never was. I showed this verse several months ago and had some calls from people who said they never knew this verse was in their Bible. After all the sufferings, beatings, imprisonment, and the shipwrecks, to simply take the Gospel to people who had never heard it. Now back to II Corinthians Chapter 12. 
II Corinthians 12:16-18 
In other words Titus didn't beg for money any more than Paul did. Now let's wind up Chapter 12.

II CORINTHIANS 5:9 - 5:21 - PART 2

Christ has already forgiven them, and now in this series of verses we're going to run into yet another word that deals with our relationship with God as believers, and that is "reconciliation." Reconciliation has been totally accomplished because of Christ's death, burial, and resurrection. 
II Corinthians 5:17a 
"Therefore if any man..." II Corinthians 5:17 
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: (creation) old things are passed away; (the old life style, the old habits) behold, all things are become new. 18. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, (His finished work of the Cross, His death on the Cross, His shed blood, and His power in resurrection) and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;" 
The same thing has happened in the realm of the spirit with man and God. What once was together has now been totally separated, and this great gulf that stands between God and man has to be bridged, and only God can do it. Man can't make reconciliation, God has to. So the work of the Cross has brought in reconciliation to man and God. I've always said that the first step of faith for the lost person to take is to believe what God says about his condition. Romans 3:23 
"For all (that includes every human being that's ever lived) have sinned and come short of the glory of God;" That's a blanket statement. Now verse 24. 
Romans 3:24-25a 
Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood,..." 
Romans 3:25,26 
"Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 26. I don't think God will bend at all with what mankind tries to add for our salvation. I don't think God can bend. Verse 26 again. II Corinthians 5:18b 
"and hath given to us (every reconciled believer) the ministry of reconciliation;" 
Now verse 19: 
II Corinthians 5:19 
"To wit (that is to say) that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; (so far as the reconciliation of lost man and forgiveness is concerned, it is already accomplished. We pick that up here in Revelation Chapter 20 as the lost come before the great White Throne. Revelation 20:12 
"And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; (now the God here of course will be the Lord Jesus Christ, the Righteous Judge) and the books (plural) were opened: and another book (singular) was opened, which is the book of life: (now when it's evidenced that the lost person's name is not in the book of life then Christ turns to the record. So now they come up before God and they're going to have to face those sins as God now passes on the judgment of those things written in the books, according to their works. So never misunderstand me when I teach that all the sins of the world are forgiven, and that lost people don't have to face them, because that only applies if they become believers. II Corinthians 5:19a 
"To wit, (that is to say) that God was in Christ,..." 
There are people who have never contemplated that. That Jesus of the Cross at Calvary was the same God of Genesis 1:1. I've said over and over, if only more people would ask that question. So Paul is telling us again that God was in Christ: 
II Corinthians 5:19b 
Until that lost person dies, and has lost his opportunity for believing the Gospel, I don't think his sins are being held against him. God is ready to cancel those sins in a moment, but when they leave this life never having believed then here they stand at the Great White Throne. Well what is the great commission? Matthew 28:19 
"Now then we (every believer) are ambassadors..." 
What's an ambassador? He's a representative of some government, but he's living in a foreign country. Colossians 1:12,13 
Well it's in Heaven. Now verse 20. 
The moment we become believers, and we're placed into the Body of Christ, we are also made members of the Kingdom of Christ in Heaven, but we're left here as ambassadors. We are representatives of Heaven itself, we become the ministers of reconciliation. II Corinthians 5:20,21 
"Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. 21. For he hath made him (Christ) to be sin(He took on the sin of the world) for us, who knew no sin; (that precious sinless Lamb of God, The eternal, Sovereign, Creator God took on the sins of the world for us) that we might be made the righteousness of God in him." 
Now a lot of people are afraid of that word "Righteousness." You see when the righteousness of God is imparted to the believer, it's simply means, "That now God sees you, God sees me clothed in the righteousness of God Himself.

Now II Corinthians Chapter 5. II Corinthians 5:1a 
"For we know that if our earthly house..." 
Our earthly house is a tent, a temporary dwelling place of our earthly body... a temporary place for the real you and the real me. It is simply dwelling in this old earthly tabernacle. This earthly house, this earthly tabernacle is the body of flesh. II Corinthians 5:1 
We should get excited about eternity. Even though Israel is more or less going to enjoy the ramification of the new earth, as God's earthly people, you and I as members of the Body of Christ are going to be heavenly. And I think that whatever new universe God is going to create, He will create one that will be literally garden plots for believers. I think that we will have responsibilities throughout all of God's new creation. My, what a prospect. Eternal, forever in the heavens. Now verse 2: 
II Corinthians 5:2 
"For in this we groan, (we just can't fully comprehend) earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house (or our dwelling place) which is from heaven: In other words the new body. Now again I've got to turn to the Book of Philippians because there's a verse there that answers all the questions, "Well what kind of a body are we going to have when we get to the eternal?" 
Philippines 3:20,21 
Remember at His Second Coming when we come with Him, He will be coming as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. the Lord Jesus Christ; Who shall change (it will be a metamorphous only on a grander scale than a butterfly. He shall change) our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself." 
I always tell folks to study the 40 days after His resurrection if you want to get a glimpse of your new resurrected body. Now returning II Corinthians Chapter 5. 
So don't think I don't enjoy life. 
What a prospect. I want you to realize that if you can believe God's Word it's going to happen. Now verse 3: 
II Corinthians 5:3-4 
What's Paul driving at? We are not so much looking forward to losing this old body, and having the soul and spirit separated from it. Oh what a glorious prospect. You can tell those young people the same thing that you can tell the older folks. Now verse 5: 
II Corinthians 5:5 
who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit." Now why did the Holy Spirit inspire the apostle Paul to talk about something like a down payment? Let's go to Ephesians Chapter 1 for the answer. 
Ephesians 1:13,14 
"In whom (speaking of Christ) ye also trusted, (placed your faith) after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: (as you find in I Corinthians 15:1-4. I thought our salvation was complete. Spiritually of the soul and spirit - Yes it's complete. We are redeemed, we are justified, we're sanctified, we're in the Body of Christ. At our salvation the Holy Spirit comes in as God's earnest or down payment) of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory." 
Now what's the purchased possession if it's not the soul and spirit. The body. Several years ago I had a pastor claim from our pulpit that, "God's not concerned about the physical body, but rather all He's concerned about is your soul.' We are body, soul, and spirit! I Thessalonians 5:23 
The spirit, soul, and body is preserved for all eternity. We're talking about eternal things. So we're not going to be a viable entity in eternity until we get the body. The soul and spirit when it is totally redeemed, has experienced absolute salvation, so what is waiting to be consummated? The body. Now let's go to Romans Chapter 8. Romans 8:22,23 
So even though the moment we're saved, the soul and spirit are totally redeemed, it's saved, it's made ready for eternity. But what about this old body? Now back to II Corinthians Chapter 5: 
II Corinthians 5:6 
Colossians 1:13 
So we're already citizens of that kingdom, but for now the soul and spirit are The Lord's. The Holy Spirit is indwelling us to be that comforter. But the old body is still prone to death and sickness, and failure. 
II Corinthians 5:7 
Faith! And faith is taking God at His Word. If the Word declares it then we believe it and God reckons it for righteousness especially for salvation. Now in verse 8 Paul repeats. 
II Corinthians 5:8 
"We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." 
Now verse 9: 
"Wherefore we labour,..." 
Paul's life is not his own. II Corinthians 5:9 
God leaves us here to further the work of the Gospel. Because you never know. Well think about it because eternity is long, eternity is forever." We can do this while we are yet in the body.

II CORINTHIANS 4:1-5:9 
Now remember in verse 6 we have this treasure, this Light that lighted the whole world. Paul was just as human as the rest of us. But it didn't stop with Paul. II Corinthians 4:7 
"But we have this treasure (the light of God) in earthen vessels, (Now Paul wasn't talking about a clay pot, but rather this body of flesh.) that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us." 
Man can never take the credit for anything. Let's turn back to I Corinthians for a moment and look at verse 27, 28, and 29. Why did God see fit to even use me what little ways He does?" I Corinthians 1:27,28 
"But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought (nothing) things that are;" 
God uses that which mankind would never dream of using. Now what's the purpose in verse 29? I Corinthians 1:29 
"That no flesh should glory in his presence." 
It is all of God or is none of God. Paul goes on now and look what he writes. 
II Corinthians 4:8 
Why was Paul perplexed? Sometimes we're prone to ask, "Well God, why?" Why? But remember God has His own purposes. Even though Paul was perplexed he never gave up. Now verse 9. 
II Corinthians 4:9 
Absolutely Paul was persecuted. He was driven from city to city, but The Lord didn't forsake him. The Lord promised him what? When he was in Corinth The Lord said, "Paul don't you run from the enemies because I've much people in Corinth." Now verse 10. 
II Corinthians 4:10 
"Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, (Now upon first reading this I think most people think that Paul is making a reference that when Christ died we died also. that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body." 
Let's look at that for a moment in II Timothy Chapter 1. So Paul suffered because Satan didn't want the Gospel going to the Gentile world. Satan hated that it was going to Israel throughout the Old Testament. Now continuing on with verse 12. 
II Timothy 1:12 
Now we'll be studying Timothy some day if The Lord tarries. Now verse 13 and 14. 
II Timothy 1:13,14 
"Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. In other words Paul tells Timothy, "What I have deposited with you keep it. Dividends, interest, a return on it. I made comment on the next verse in a previous program and I'm still getting calls about that verse. What did the apostle Paul mean?" II Timothy 1:15 
Now you want to remember that Greece was Europe, and Asia Minor was the Asia of the New Testament. Philippi is still a valid sea port. Corinth is no longer the ancient city, but there's another city right next to it, and much of Greece refers to the journeys and so forth of Paul, but back there in western Turkey not one of these cities are left. Now verse 11 and 12 for example. 
II Corinthians 4:11,12 
"For we which live are always delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. So then death worketh in us, but life in you." 
Now verse 13. 
II Corinthians 4:13 
Up until this chapter it's Peter and the eleven and the Nation of Israel. Now remember Paul didn't go after Gentiles because there were none of them believing yet. Remember at that time the Gospel of the Kingdom was the only Gospel that had been revealed. Jehovah! Lord. Now all the way through the Old Testament when you see the word LORD all in capital letters, it's Jehovah. When Saul of Tarsus addresses God, which he knows this Light and voice is, then in so many words he says, "Who art thou Jehovah?" "I am Jesus whom thou persecutest:..." 
Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?..." 
"Who in the world is Jesus Christ?" People do not understand that Jesus Christ of the New Testament is the Jehovah God of the Old Testament. Jesus of the New Testament is the God of Genesis 1:1. John 1:1 
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God," 
Well enough for that, now back to II Corinthians. Now verse 14. 
II Corinthians 4:14,15 
"Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by (that same) Jesus, and shall present us with you. It's always God's glory. We don't elevate Paul to glory. Now verse 16. 
II Corinthians 4:16-18 
The world today is only set on the temporal. Remember what The Lord said back in His earthly ministry?

2 CORINTHIANS 1:1-3:18 
Here in II Corinthians we are realizing that Paul is now following up his first letter which was a letter of reproof and correction. Now verse 9: 
II Corinthians 2:9 
Now verse 10: 
II Corinthians 2:10 
"To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: (Paul had that much confidence in them that if they had the mind of forgiveness he could go along with it.) for if I forgave anything, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ:" 
Now Paul had absolutely no power of forgiving sin and we know that. To keep Satan from getting the upper hand! Now verse 11: 
II Corinthians 2:11 
A lot of people go through life thinking something is in The Book because they heard it some place. But listen, you've got to search the Scriptures and if it's not taught in Scripture run from it like a plague. So Paul says in verse 11: 
II Corinthians 2:11b 
Now Paul is going to bring in his own past experience when seemingly Satan had almost beaten him down in despair. 
If you can picture in your mind the Mediterranean Sea and Turkey as it winds out to the West. Also remember Paul's early ministry was there in that western half of present day Turkey which was called Asia Minor. Then you have the Aegean Sea between Turkey and the mainland of Europe which is Macedonia or northern Greece, and Athens in southern Greece. Evidently Paul had made arrangement with Titus, his fellow worker there in Asia Minor, to meet him at Troas. Now look at what Paul says: 
II Corinthians 2:12,13a 
When Paul couldn't find Titus, his brother in The Lord, can you imagine what that must have felt like? Why isn't he at Troas at the appointed time? Now let's look at that in the Book of Acts Chapter 16 and here Paul has been ministering in western Turkey which was then Asia Minor So we find him at Troas. Now verse 6: 
Now verse 13 again: 
II Corinthians 2:13 
So what does Paul do? In spite of the fact that he had lost track of Titus, he is obedient to The Lord's call now to go across the Aegean Sea and begin his ministry in Macedonia. Now verse 14: 
II Corinthians 2:14a 
"Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph..." 
II Corinthians 2:14,15 
Now verse 16: 
II Corinthians 2:16 
"To the one we are savour of death unto death; (in other words if they didn't respond, then spiritual death was their end results) and to the other (the ones who did respond) the savour of life unto life. II Corinthians 2:17a 
"For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God:...' 
What does Paul mean when he says corrupting the Word of God? Well the Greek word here is `kapeleuo.' Now that Greek word is just Greek to us isn't it? Whenever Jesus would quote from the Old Testament, if He didn't quote it from the Hebrew then He would quote it from the Septuagint Greek. That's where a lot of our Greek scholars put the Greek language together for our benefit. 
Isaiah 1:21 
What's Isaiah talking about? The city of Jerusalem. At one time it had been a righteous city and the Jewish people were obedient to the Mosaic Law, and the system. Now verse 22: 
Isaiah 1:22 
Now here is a word translated corrupt in II Corinthians 2:17) thy wine mixed with water:" 
Paul says, "I didn't come unto you with wine watered down with water. All of that is wrapped up in that one word "corrupt." Now coming back to II Corinthians Chapter 2. For Paul says: 
II Corinthians 2:17 
"For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: ( a lot of people do hock an adulterated product of the spiritual.) but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ." 
Now I'm also thinking about another verse that corresponds. Let's go back to the Book of Jude for a moment. Now look what The Bible says concerning false teachers. Now verse 8. Jude 1:8,10 
"Likewise also these filthy dreamers (he's talking about false teacher who are hocking an adulterated product. Now verse 11: 
Jude 1:11a,12 
"Woe unto them!..." Jude 1:13 
II Corinthians 2:17 
"For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ." 
Paul didn't come to these Corinthians with fickle language, or half truths, but everything that Paul spoke was prompted by the Holy Spirit, and he was here because of his love for Christ as we will see in Chapter 5. The love of Christ is what constrained Paul. So Paul was able to suffer all the privations that he will list a little later in this letter. Instead of the false teacher being bombarded, it's those with the truth who come under attack.

I CORINTHIANS 15:35-16:24 - PART 2 
Well hopefully we'll finish I Corinthians in this lesson, I'm certainly going to try. So turn again to Chapter 15, and we're going to take a look at this revelation of a secret which was part of that whole revealed body of truth which Paul refers to as the mystery. Before we look at I Corinthians let's look for a moment at Romans Chapter 16. Now let's look at verse 25: 
Romans 16:25 
Deuteronomy 29:29 
"The secret things belong unto the LORD our God:..." 
God just did not reveal it, not even a hint of the Church age, and what we call the Rapture in any of the prophecies, or His earthly ministry. The Old Testament was based on the prophetic word. Everything was based on what God said, "I Will, I Will, I Will," That was prophecy! So Christ came in fulfillment of that Covenant. He came only to the Nation of Israel (Matthew 15:24) as their Messiah, and their King, and we've been teaching that over and over. Now God's going to turn to the rest of the world by putting the Nation of Israel into a dispersion, and not using the Jew with the exception of this one man, the Apostle Paul who was a Jew, a Pharisee of the Pharisees of the tribe of Benjamin. Remember God had intended for the Nation of Israel to evangelize the world, but when he sent them into dispersion, in the last chapter of Acts He put them into a place of spiritual blindness. Paul tells us now there is no difference between Jew and Gentiles. Now for salvation all must believe the Gospel that was given Paul by the crucified, risen Lord, the Gospel we find in I Corinthians 15:1-4. When this dispersion took place about 70 AD the Jews lost the Temple, and the city of Jerusalem, and their homeland. They were dispersed into every nation on earth. 
But about 30 years before this dispersion took place, about 40 AD, the Apostle Paul was called by God, and he now is going to be progenitor of this Gospel of Grace and the calling out of the Gentile Body of Christ. Now there are many other references to the Second Coming, but I'm going to use this passage as the prime example of how everything that the Old Testament, and Jesus and the Four Gospel accounts refer to in Christ's coming is never this Rapture of the Church, this meeting in the air. It was only a secret revealed by, and to the Apostle Paul. 
When Christ will come and stand in that day on the Mount of Olives. Matthew 24:1-3 
Matthew 24 is Tribulation ground. Technology. 
Not to the Church or the Rapture of the Church! Now there were all kinds of mysteries revealed to Paul, and they were unknown to the rest of Scripture. For example, that Jews and Gentiles would be brought into the Body of Christ on equal ground. Now I pay all respect to Israel's Covenant position, as the favorite nation of God. Well you take them off the scene and God's Word would fall apart, and we know God's not going to let that happen. Remember God has said that they are not going to disappear. Now back to I Corinthians 15: 54. Now verse 54. I Corinthians 15:54-56 
O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? Death and sin are almost synonymous.) Then verse 57: 
I Corinthians 15:57 
"But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." 
Now verse 58, and he begins this verse with the word "Therefore," Now Paul is winding this letter down. This verse shows that the Rapture is a reality, and it will happen before the horrors of the Tribulation comes. Verse 13 says it all, but let's start at verse 11. 
Titus 2:11-13 
"For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath (already) appeared to all men. When someone asks that you to show them in The Bible that Jesus ever claimed to be God well here's one reference right here, and there are many others. The glorious appearing of the great God, the God of Creation, the God of this Book, and Who is He? Our Saviour Jesus Christ! I Corinthians 15:58 
God hasn't promised that, "Just because we're believers we're going to drive cadillacs, and live in mansions." Then one day we're going to cash in on the rewards in glory, and remember that Paul is always teaching that. Now go to Chapter 16 to wind up I Corinthians. Here Paul is going to deal with something totally different from resurrection. I dare say if we could ask some of our Jewish friends whether they teach tithing today, I'd be very surprised if they would say yes. Always remember that Paul never says tithe, because that was part of the Law, but that doesn't say that God doesn't expect you to give. Let's look how Paul puts it. 
I Corinthians 16:1a 
Paul was always instructed to remember the poor saints at Jerusalem. Why? I Corinthians 16:1,2

I CORINTHIANS 15:35-16:24 
It's interesting that Paul uses the word "mystery" that is so intrinsic to his writings. I Corinthians 15:51 
"Behold, I shew you a mystery;..." 
This word `mystery' comes from the Greek word `musterion' which simply means `secret.' Those two words can be interchanged throughout Paul's letters when he says, "Behold, I shew you a mystery or secret." And when we speak of secrets we have to look at the Book of Deuteronomy Chapter 29. Deuteronomy 29:29 
"The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law." 
For example, look at Ephesians 3:1-9 things only revealed to Paul, and then for the Gospel of Salvation, Romans 16:25, I Corinthians 15:1-4 and Romans 10:9-10 which He kept secret until He revealed it to the Apostle Paul for us, the Body of Christ. For the Rapture of the Church was given only to the Apostle Paul. Remember God doesn't have to reveal secrets until He's ready. So this is one of the basic things it takes to understand the Word of God. Now let's look for a moment at Luke Chapter 18. As you come back to I Corinthians 15, Paul now says he is going to reveal a secret, or a mystery, which means it has never been revealed before. Paul makes reference to the fact that it was to him first that God revealed these things. God had the right to keep it secret. I Corinthians 15:51 
"Behold, I shew you a mystery: (secret) We shall not all sleep, (die physically) but we (remember Paul only writes to believers so he's not including the lost world here) shall all be changed,." 
That is why I took so much time previously to show that our resurrected body is going to be fashioned after Christ's resurrection body, it's going to be a lot like our physical body, but it's going to be different. So Paul says, "there's coming a group of people who will not die physically, but they shall all be changed." Now let's read on: 
I Corinthians 15:52 
We shall be changed from this body of corruption to a body of incorruption in that split second at the trumpet call. 
I Corinthians 15:53 
Let's talk a little about the trumpet. Let's go back to Revelation Chapter 8, and look at the trumpet. For some reason or other the best of people want to tie the trump of God in Paul's teaching concerning the Rapture, with these trumpets in Revelation which will occur about the mid-point of the Tribulation. Revelation 8:2 
"And I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given (not the trump of God singular, but rather were given) seven trumpets." The angels are going to blow these seven trumpets. Now comparing Scripture with Scripture look at Chapter 15 again of I Corinthians. The seven angelic trumpets can no way shape or form, as I understand language, be a part of the trump (singular) of God Himself. In other words God has a trumpet reserved for just this event and this alone "the calling out the Body of Christ." I Thessalonians 4:13,14 
If we believe the Gospel to the place where God has now imparted salvation. Now verse 14 is another one of those scriptures where Jesus and God are synonymous. It's the same God, the same Jesus. Ephesians 1:1 
"Paul, and apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesians, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus:" 
Ephesians 1:4a 
Ephesians 1:12,13 
In whom ye also trusted,..." 
So all the way through these 6 chapters you have 96 times, if I'm not mistaken, this prepositional phrase which is our position in Christ or the Body of Christ. Well the soul and spirit of that believer is already in glory, and the body is in the grave. II Corinthians 5:6-8 
"What happens to the believer's soul and spirit at death?" It immediately goes into paradise in heaven right into the presence of The Lord. Now back again to I Thessalonians Chapter 4 and let's look at verse 14 again. 
I Thessalonians 4:14 
"For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him." Now verse 15. 
I Thessalonians 4:15,16 
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: (not the trumpet of the angels) and the dead in Christ shall rise first:" 
Now verse 17: 
So if you don't like to use the word Rapture just say "caught up." I Thessalonians 4:17 
"Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them (the resurrected who have died in Christ) in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air, and so shall we ever be with the Lord." 
Here we have The Lord and the eleven disciples on the Mount of Olives. Now verse 9: 
Now let's look at Zechariah Chapter 14 and compare the language.

Then Paul said in verse 29 "What's the use in all these things if there is no resurrection of the dead." Everything centers on the resurrection of the dead. So looking at verse 31 where Paul says: 
I Corinthians 15:31 
"I protest (or affirm) by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily." 
Number one, remember that Paul teaches so strongly the idea of the old and new nature. We are constantly in a warfare, "The old sin nature against the new Divine nature." All of Paul's writings dovetail together so beautifully. So turn to Chapter 6 and let's begin with verse 13, and throughout this whole 6th Chapter of Romans Paul is dealing with, "reckoning that Old Adam as our mortal enemy, and putting him constantly to death." Now that may sound like double talk, but we have to realize that God in His omniscience, and Sovereignty, the moment we believe for salvation, God reckoned our old Adam as crucified with Christ, he's dead. Here Paul says it so clearly: 
Romans 6:13a 
"Neither yield (or give in) ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin:" 
Or unto the old Adam. Also remember that three-letter-word "sin" is the old Adam, the old sin nature. Romans 6:13b 
"...but yield yourselves unto God, (in other words be what God wants us to be.) as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God." 
Now this is exactly what Paul is talking about here in this verse 31 of I Corinthians. Paul says, "I die daily." Now verse 32. 
I Corinthians 15:32a 
"If after the manner of men (If so to speak) I have fought with beasts at Ephesus,..." 
I think it was this constant opposition from his fellow men, ungodly men. 
I Corinthians 15:32 
"If after the manner of men (If so to speak) I have fought with beasts at Ephesus (these men who were constantly opposing him) what advantageth it me, (why should I fight against them) if the dead rise not? What's the use, Paul says, in facing all of this opposition to the Gospel if there's no resurrection, and if that be the case) let us eat and drink; for tomorrow we die." 
Most people are not thinking in terms of eternity, but what's in it for me today. Instant gratification is all people are concerned about. Well Paul says, "If there's no resurrection then have at it." I Corinthians 15:33 
Proverbs 13:20 
Even in the area of the spiritual you will never rise any higher than the people you fellowship with. It also involves the leadership of lay people, whether you call them elders or deacons or whatever. If we are going to run with people of low integrity, if we are going to run with the people who have no compunction about things right and wrong, we're going to become like them. Come back to Hebrews, Chapter 10 verse 25. 
[speaking of the faithfulness of Christ.] Now, never lose sight of the fact that Paul thought The Lord was going to come in his life time. God said, "No, you're not." Now, let's go back to I Corinthians Chapter 15. 
I Corinthians 15:33,34a 
"Be not deceived: evil communications (that doesn't mean just the words, but it's our concourse with people. And if it's going to be with evil people, it's going to rub off) corrupt good manners. Awake to righteousness, and sin not; ..." 
We've talked about that in our Tulsa class the last time we were together. Is it possible to live without sin? That old Adam! And that old Adam is working on us constantly to sin. I'm a promoter of the Grace of God, that where sin aboundeth, grace is greater, but for the believer, grace is not license. And this is what Paul is talking about. Now then, remember who he is talking to. "...for some have not the knowledge of God, I speak this to your shame." 
Who is he talking about? I think he was talking about the people within his congregation at Corinth. They were carnal. They were believers, but they didn't have that knowledge and wisdom. Let's go to Ephesians Chapter 3 and verse 16. What's the difference between knowledge and comprehending? Let's read on. 
Now let's read on: 
Ephesians 3:19 
"And to know the love of Christ, which passeth (goes beyond) knowledge, that ye (this is for every believer. I'm just not that strong a believer." Listen, if you have Christ in your heart, you have the potential for all this. Now let's read on. 
Ephesians 3:20 
Now let's return to I Corinthians and look at verse 34 again. 
I Corinthians 15:34 
"Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame." 
What would Paul speak to the average Christian today? Let's look for a moment in Chapter 3, and see the kind of people he's writing this heavy stuff to. For ye are yet carnal:..." 
Now that's like too many people today, and God doesn't want people to be fleshly and carnal, but rather to be spiritual, and enjoy this knowledge of God.

Now we talked a little bit about His reign and ruling during the thousand years of His Kingdom rule, but now let's come back to I Corinthians 15:25, and as I've said before, we're going to take this slowly. 
I Corinthians 15:25-27 
"For he (Christ) must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. Verse 27 sounds confusing doesn't it? We just can't cancel out God the Father, and God the Holy Spirit, because when we're dealing with God, we're dealing with that Triune, Spirit, Godhead, and I don't want to lose that. Now let's turn to the Book of Ephesians Chapter 1 verse 17. This is more or less a prayer that Paul is praying on behalf of these Ephesian believers, and the Book of Ephesians takes us into a deeper realm of teaching concerning the Church, The Body of Christ. Ephesians 1:17,18 
"That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, The Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; (remember these are prayer requests that Paul is petitioning) that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints," 
We always speak of Christ as our inheritance don't we? Ephesians 1:18b 
Remember that the members of the Body of Christ are the complement, the fullness of Christ which is the same word that was used concerning Eve when God presented her to Adam. We aren't saved just escape hell fire, we are saved to come into this tremendous relationship with Christ Himself. Now reading on: 
Ephesians 1:19 
Reading the verse again: 
Ephesians 1:19,20a 
Oh don't ever sell the power of God short. Now verse 20. And this power, this tremendous all consuming power: 
"Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead,..." 
What's the 15th Chapter of I Corinthians all about? Resurrection! And resurrection is the high point of every thing that God has accomplished. Ephesians 1:20 
Ephesians 1:20 
"Which he wrought in Christ (Who? God the Father up there in verse 17) when he (God the Father, and God the Spirit, and again the Triune God) raised him (Christ) from the dead and set him (Christ. Now look at His position in verse 21. 
Ephesians 1:21 
All the gods of mythology, all the gods of the far Eastern religions, all the gods of the New Agers, all the gods of whatever you can dream up. Ephesians 1:22a 
So let's go to Daniel Chapter 7. Here we have this same idea of God the Father on the supreme area of the Throne, and God the Son comes before Him, and let's begin with verse 9. 
Daniel 7:9,10 
Now come down to verse 13. 
God the Son, The Lord Jesus) dominion and glory, and a kingdom, (this earthly 1000 year reign of Christ) that all people, nations, and languages, (see that separation of the nations?) should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed." 
It's just that elementary phase that gives us a limited view of the eternal state of our ruling and reigning with Christ over the heavenlies. Remember, there's going to be a new Heaven and a new earth. Now back again to the Book of Ephesians, Chapter 1 verse 10. 
Ephesians 1:10 
The Lord Jesus is! Let's read verses 6 and 7. These are fabulous verses. Isaiah 9:6,7 
Remember we can't comprehend eternity. Now reading verse 7 again: 
Isaiah 9:7 
Now verse 28: Now this is mind-boggling if you really analyze the verse. I Corinthians 15:28 
All principalities, and powers, kingdoms, and even death are going to come under His supreme rule) then(there we have another time word. There's coming a point in time which I think is at the onset of eternity, but whatever there's still coming a point in time when) shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all." 
That after He has put everything under Christ's feet, and He has become all and all, yet there's coming a day when even Christ evidently gives everything up to the Godhead. Now verse 29 is a verse that I wish I could do like most commentators usually do with a verse that I want to know something about. I Corinthians 15:29 
Remember that God does everything in the light of resurrection. Paul tells us in Ephesians Chapter 4 and verse 5 that there is only one baptism: 
Ephesians 4:4,5 
"There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism," 
Let's look at verse 13, a verse we've used often. 
I Corinthians 12:13 
Why should God even bother to place us into Body of Christ if there is no resurrection. Why are they baptized for the dead? And also verse 30: 
I Corinthians 15:30 
If there is no resurrection from the dead then what's the use. 
"If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. But now is Christ risen from the dead,..."

I CORINTHIANS 15:24-54 - PART 2 
Remember from the Old Testament economy we had the firstfruits - the sampling - that's Christ and those who came out of the graves after He came out in Matthew Chapter 27. Then we have the main harvest, which is the Church resurrection and includes the Rapture. I Corinthians 15:23 
Remember, all the Old Testament promises and programs never considered the out-calling of the Church. It was never in there because God had kept it secret. So all the Old Testament prophecies spoke of the coming of Christ to be their King, and they would have to go through the Tribulation and then they could have the King and the Kingdom. You can find that in Psalm Chapter 2, Joel Chapter 2, and Zechariah Chapter 14. God then brings forth the Apostle Paul and this is what we have been looking at for the past three lessons, and it's the calling out the Body of Christ primarily from the Gentiles. And since it has nothing to do with the Old Testament program or Tribulation, which is also tied to the Old Testament and primarily for the Jew, then we maintain that the Body of Christ is insulated from God's dealings with Israel either before or after the Cross, and so consequently this is why I teach the Rapture. The Body of Christ has to be off the scene before God can pick up dealing with Israel again. Always remember, if we could just take the Church out, which is in parentheses, then we can place the Tribulation back with the Old Testament economy of the Second Coming of the Messiah, the Tribulation, the King, and the Kingdom. Turn to Chapter 11 verse 25 (that I always I maintain will be the triggering mechanism for Christ coming for the Church). When the last person is saved, and the Body is complete then Christ will come for the Church. 
Romans 11:25 
"...that ye should be ignorant of this mystery,..." 
Now define the word `ignorant.' I consider myself ignorant regarding electricity. Because I've never been taught about it. Romans 11:25 
Well, what's Paul talking about? When Israel rejected the Messiah, why did they reject Him? Ignorance! Israel could have known Who Jesus was because it was in the Old Testament. Every last person in these 50 states should know that we are in the end times, that we are approaching the very coming of Christ, and the Tribulation, the appearance of the Anti-christ and world government, but do they? Paul is admonishing the believers at Rome, "Don't be ignorant of this fact that God has literally dropped a spiritual blindness on the Nation of Israel." Romans 11:7 
Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; (What were they seeking? The King and the earthly Kingdom! How ignorant? Now coming back to verse 25, Paul says, "That we Gentiles are to understand that this spiritual blindness has fallen on the Nation of Israel, and it will remain on their spiritual eyes" 
The Body of Christ, the Church. So when the Body of Christ is full then God will take us out of the way and He will start dealing again with the Nation of Israel. Now verse 7: 
"Alas! Remember what Jesus said in Matthew 24:21? Now reading the verse again: 
Jeremiah 30:7 
Israel is the primary one that God is dealing with. In all of God's dealing with the human race, Israel is at the center of it all. Deuteronomy 32:8 
Everything God has done with the human race on this planet revolves around that little Nation of Israel. Now the same way then with the Tribulation, it's going to be primarily God pouring out His wrath on Christ-rejecting Jews. The Old Testament and Tribulation saints will be relatively few in number compared to the number in the Body of Christ. I Corinthians 15:51,52 
If we're not going to die and have a resurrection body then we've got to have a new body. Don't ever limit God. Philippians 3:20-21 
Now for a moment let's come back to I Corinthians Chapter 15. And so we will be raised incorruptible, and changed into a glorious body like His resurrected body. Now verse 53: 
I Corinthians 15:53,54 
"Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: Who gave himself for us,..." Now in Thessalonians 4, beginning with verse 13, and again Paul uses that word "ignorant." 
I Thessalonians 4:13,14 
Even for believers. brethren, concerning them which are asleep, (died in Christ) that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope." even so them also which sleep (or have died) in Jesus will God bring with him." 
The God that is coming for the saints is Jesus. Jesus is the God Who is coming with the saints. Now verse 15: 
I Thessalonians 4:15,16 
that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord (that is for the Body of Christ, the Church) shall not prevent (or go ahead of ) them which are asleep. 
Now in verse 17 the two words "caught up" are the two words that comprise the word "Rapture." Then Paul says"

I CORINTHIANS 15:24-54 
We are studying I Corinthians 15, but right now we're building this whole concept of the Body of Christ. It's this Body of Christ that is called out from the Gentile world that will one day be resurrected in total. What I'm going to do now is to look up all these verses that have a reference to this Body of Christ. Always remember that back in Christ's earthly ministry and Peter's and so forth, they were proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom. Now through the preaching of the Gospel of Grace, instead of calling out a Covenant people such as Israel was, we are calling out what Paul refers to as the Body of Christ. Never does Jesus or the Twelve ever use the term "the Body of Christ." Never! Now we're going to look at all these verses that make a reference to the Body of Christ. Romans 12:4 
"For as we have many members in one body, (using the human body as an illustration) and all members have not the same office:" 
Every member of our body has an intrinsic purpose. Romans 12:5 
"So we (as believers of the Gospel of Grace) being many, are one body (where?) in Christ, and every one members one of another." 
I Corinthians 12:12,13 
"For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: (he's referring to our human make-up. The head controls the body) so also is Christ. It isn't just the spiritual who get baptized into the Body. Every believer of whatever station in life, when he becomes a believer, a child of God, then the Holy Spirit baptizes that person into the Body of Christ) baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink (or partake) into one Spirit." 
Now let's look at verse 27 of Chapter 12. 
I Corinthians 12:27 
"Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular." 
God knows every one of us by name. Now let's turn over to Ephesians. And here again, Christ is being presented as the Head of the Body. 
Ephesians 1:20 
Now verse 21. 
Ephesians 1:21-23 
Christ's) and gave him to be the head over all things to the (what people?) the church, (the ecclesia, which is now the Body of Christ) Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all." 
Complement, which means that Christ will finally have the Body in His presence then He Himself considers Himself complete. Now, let's look at Ephesians Chapter 3 and verse 6. Ephesians 3:5,6 
by the gospel". 
Just by the Gospel. The Gospel, how that Christ died, was buried and rose again as we find in I Corinthians 15:1-4 and Romans 10:9-10. Ephesians 4:4a 
"There is one body, ..." There it is again. You don't see that in Christ's earthly ministry. But all through Paul's writing you find this term, "the Body". Let's read on. 
Ephesians 4:4b,5 
There's one faith and only one. Ephesians 4:6 
Let's look on down into verse 12 of Ephesians 4. It's part of this greater revelation of our position in the Body, which is in Christ. 
Ephesians 4:12 
body of Christ." 
Not every church member across the world is a member of the Body of Christ. Some people call and ask. Only God can see the heart. But I do know from the Scripture and from everything else that bombards us, there are a lot of bonafide church members who are not members of the Body of Christ. Only The Lord himself places a person into the Body of Christ. To edify the Body of Christ, the true believer! Now let's look at verse 13. 
Ephesians 4:13 
Let's look now at verse 14 and if this isn't apropos. Ephesians 4:14 
Now let's look at verse 15 
Ephesians 4:15 
"But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him (in that position in Christ) in all things, which is the head, even Christ:" 
Now Paul is always using the human body as an illustration. The head! That's what Christ is. He is the Head of the Body and as the Body functions, even in this world, where does its marching orders come from? The Head! Now if your pastor is preaching the Word, then great. Now let's go on into Colossians and let's begin at Chapter 1, verse 15. And again, this is just simply showing the preeminence of the position of Christ Who is the Head of the Body. 
Colossians 1:15 
Not just an off-spring of God, or something created by God, but he is God! Verse 16. 
Colossians 1:18,19 
Now, let's come over to Chapter 2 verse 14: 
Colossians 2:14-17 
Which are a shadow of things to come but the body is of Christ." 
Now I don't think the Body of Christ even had the preview of the types in the Old Testament, but the Cross did. Colossians Chapter 3 and verse 15. 
Let the word of Christ dwell in your richly in all wisdom; ..." 
God doesn't want a bunch of ignorant believers in the Body. Colossians 3:17

I CORINTHIANS 15:20-23 - PART 2 
God gave Abraham the Abrahamic Covenant, called him out of idolatry and promised him a separated nation which would be Holy, and would come under the Covenant promises. That's why we call Israel the favored nation, or God's chosen people, because in His sovereignty that's the way He ordained it. Abraham wasn't saved by offering sacrifices. He was saved by being obedient to what God said. Let's look at Chapter 49. Here in Isaiah 49 is where this whole concept of Israel becoming a nation of priests is what God had on His mind. Isaiah 49 and let's go to verse 6. Remember what we read in Exodus - that "if" they are obedient with the Law or Covenant that God is now giving them at Mt. Sinai, then they would be a nation of priests, a holy nation, and they would be used of God sometime down the road to funnel salvation into the Gentile world. 
Isaiah 49:6 
Gentiles,....'" 
Those Gentiles had nothing to do with his God. But it was his God Who told him to go. Yes, God can save Gentiles when He wants to. But the mind-set of the Jew was that God had no time for those pagan dogs. Mark 7:27,28 
"But Jesus said unto her, `Let the children (Israel, the Jews) first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it unto the dogs.' Now, as you see in Isaiah, God's whole intent and purpose was that Israel as a kingdom of priests, would at one time go and evangelize those Gentiles. Isaiah 2:1,2 
Kingdom! Once Israel's Messiah would come and set up His throne, His kingdom, there in the city of Jerusalem, all the nations of the world would just navigate and would be brought just about like a magnet drawing steel, to Jerusalem. Zechariah 8:20-23 
"Thus saith the Lord of hosts; `It shall yet come to pass, (sound familiar? Yea, many people and strong nations (plural) shall come to seek the Lord of hosts (where?) in Jerusalem, (where He has set up His throne and His kingdom) and to pray before the Lord.' Israel blew it, as we say. But that doesn't take away the fact that God is still intending to use the Nation of Israel to yet bring salvation to the Gentiles. All we're talking about is God dealing with Israel and at one point in time God wanted to funnel them back into this pagan, polluted stream of humanity and thereby purify it. Remember Christ went up and down the land of Israel, all that territory between the Mediterranean and the Jordan Valley for three years. Can you find one place in Scripture where He ever went outside the land of Israel? Let's go over to Matthew Chapter 10. Where do you get that He just came to the Nation of Israel?" Matthew 10:5,6 
Matthew 15:24 
"But he (Jesus) answered and said, `I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.'" 
"Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision (Jews) for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers:" 
Because all the way up since Abraham's Covenant, God is dealing only with the His Covenant people, Israel, in the promise of making them a nation of people; in the promise of putting them in their geographical promised land and then one day coming to be their King and their Messiah. Paul has been going to the Gentiles and he's seeing them saved by grace. Ephesians 2:11,12 
Ordinary human beings) who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; (In plain language, who called the Gentiles uncircumcised? The Jews did. This whole period of time during the Old Testament when Israel is under the Covenant promises and God is dealing only with His Covenant people, with exceptions. Gentiles had no rights from Israel. They were Gentiles or aliens. Israel had the Covenants, but could the Gentiles say, "Hey, that's for me"? No, that wasn't for a Gentile. Because God was dealing with Covenant promises and it was only for the Nation of Israel until she should be such a prepared spiritual, obedient people and then what would God do? He would send them into the Gentile world and they could then bring the Gentiles to a knowledge of their God. But what did Israel do? Now come down to verse 17 of Chapter 22. Gentile! Satan does, and all you have to do is look back at history and how Satan has constantly fought God's dealings with the Nation of Israel. Every thing that comes about in the Nation of Israel in their unbelief, in their attacks from the Gentile world, just anything, who prompts it? Well it is the satanic ploy still trying to get rid of the Nation of Israel, because if Satan can succeed in getting rid of the Jew then God can't perform his prophecies. What does the world do with all these promise God made to that little nation? Jeremiah 31:35-37

I CORINTHIANS 15:20-23 - PART 2
God gave Abraham the Abrahamic Covenant, called him out of idolatry and promised him a separated nation which would be Holy, and would come under the Covenant promises. That's why we call Israel the favored nation, or God's chosen people, because in His sovereignty that's the way He ordained it. Abraham wasn't saved by offering sacrifices. He was saved by being obedient to what God said. Let's look at Chapter 49. Here in Isaiah 49 is where this whole concept of Israel becoming a nation of priests is what God had on His mind. Isaiah 49 and let's go to verse 6. Remember what we read in Exodus - that "if" they are obedient with the Law or Covenant that God is now giving them at Mt. Sinai, then they would be a nation of priests, a holy nation, and they would be used of God sometime down the road to funnel salvation into the Gentile world.

Now there is nothing in the Old Testament prophecy or otherwise that connects Israel to the Church, which is His Body. There is not a word in the Old Testament of some 1900 + years where God is calling out predominately Gentiles. Psalms 2:1-6 
Israel demanded it, so they were in it together.) Then (After having rejected the Messiah) shall he (God) speak unto them(that is the nations of the world as well as Israel) in his wrath, (Here's the prophecy concerning the final 7 years of Tribulation) and vex them in his sore displeasure. Now there is your timeline in a nutshell for Old Testament prophecy. Then in total rebellion of what God had said to scatter and to re-populate the planet, they gather at the Tower of Babel under a man called Nimrod. Now there at Babel they were under total rebellion against God's authority, and remember the tower was never intended to take brick and stone all the way to Heaven, but rather it was a place of religion whereby they could literally usurp the throne of God religiously. 
The Tower of Babel. One of the big highlights in the Old Testament economy was the Tower of Babel and how God scattered them. Then another 200 years went by and once again God does something totally different. He pulls out of this mainstream of humanity, this man Abraham, and He brings about the Nation of Israel. By an act of a sovereign God, this didn't happen accidentally. But God sovereignly pulls out of the mainstream of humanity, the man Abram, as he was first called, and He promises him the Nation of Israel. Some will write and say, "Where did the Nation of Israel begin?" Now Abraham was not a Jew. Now, Israel, according to the promises of God, was to be a nation that God would prepare and use. Genesis 12:1 
"Now the Lord (Jehovah) had said (back in Chapter 11) unto Abram, `Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:'" 
Joshua 24:1,2 
"And Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and called for the elders of Israel, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers; and they presented themselves before God. And Joshua said unto all the people, `Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the flood in old time, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nachor; and they (all of them. Abraham, Terah, Nachor) served (what?) other gods (small `g').'" 
Idolaters! Abram was raised in idolatry. Now when God spoke to him (and Stephen in Acts Chapter 7, gives us the impression that God visibly, appeared unto Abraham, that Abraham saw God in physical form, and God, or The Lord as we refer to Him now, told Abraham what you see back in Genesis 12), He told him to get away from his country, his kinfolk, and from his father's house. Why? Separate yourself from these false religions. Let's look at verse 2 and here comes the Abrahamic Covenant. 
Genesis 12:2a 
"And I will make of thee a great nation,...." 
Genesis 12:2b,3 
Now turn the page a little bit if you will and let's look at verse 14 of Chapter 13. Not only would they be a nation of people but now God's going to have to put them in a geographical area of land. If they're going to be a nation of people that God is going to work through, they have to be in their own borders.

So now, let's look at verse 1 of Chapter 46. 
Genesis 46:1,2 
"And Israel (Jacob) took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beersheba (just south of Jerusalem about 70 or 80 miles), and offered sacrifices unto the God of his father Isaac. And God spake unto Israel (Jacob) in the visions of the night, and said, `Jacob, Jacob'. Genesis 46:3 
"And he said, `I am God, the God of thy father; fear not to go down into Egypt; for I will there make of thee a great nation:'" 
Now let's look at Exodus Chapter 19. Time has gone by, another 215 years and now Moses has led the children of Israel out of Egypt. Exodus 19:5 
Now what does that do with the Nation of Israel? It lifts them out of that mainstream of humanity and puts them into that place of covenant relationship as God's favored, chosen people. That God intended this little nation of people to be a particular people of value that he could use to reach all those pagans. God is sovereign. Exodus 19:6 
So every Jew was to be a prepared person to be a go-between some day down the road between the pagan world around them and Israel's God.) and an holy (or set apart) nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel." 
Now most people can't understand that this is the purpose of Israel.

I CORINTHIANS 14:4 - 15:19 - PART 2 
Now verse 14, and to me this is so plain, where Paul, now speaking in the first person says: 
I Corinthians 14:14 
"For if I pray in an unknown tongue, (there's that singular again, that sound that can't be reduced to a phonetic sound or to writing) my spirit ( small "s"- his own personality) prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful." 
Even for the individual, what good does it do, Paul says, to speak in a language that you don't know what you're talking about, and I know their answer, "Well, God does." We know that God being Omnipotent, He certainly can if He wants to, but there is nothing in here that indicates that this is what God expects people to do. 
I Corinthians 14:15 
I will pray with the spirit, (Paul is saying, `I will pray from my innermost being. Even if God is able to discern it, what if you can't? Whatever you do while communicating with God, do it in understanding.) I Corinthians 14:16 
Verse 17: 
I Corinthians 14:17,18 
I thank my God, I speak with tongues (Plural - Languages) more than ye all:" 
What's Paul saying? So here in verse 18 Paul is speaking of languages with which he could communicate the Gospel. Now verse 19: 
I Corinthians 14:19,20 
"Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue. brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice (And that's not a very nice word) be ye children, but in understanding (grow up and) be men." Now verse 21: 
I Corinthians 14:21 
"In the law it is written, `With men of other tongues (Languages) and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.'" 
Deuteronomy 28:49 
"The LORD shall bring a nation (of foreign people) against thee from far, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flieth; a nation whose tongue thou shalt not understand:" 
Now here the tongue refers to their language. Now it wasn't an unknown tongue, but it was a language that the Jews wouldn't be able to understand. I Corinthians 14:21,22 
Wherefore tongues (This ability to speak in languages) are for a sign,..." 
I Corinthians 1:22 
"For the Jews require a sign,..." 
Now stop and think, how long has Israel been demanding signs? What was God trying to show Moses? To prove to those two men that God was going to do the supernatural. Why did Jesus perform miracle, after miracle? It was signs. I Corinthians 1:22,23a 
I Corinthians 14:22a 
Preaching the Word! This is what people need to hear today, people have to hear the Gospel (Ref. I Corinthians 15:1-4). I know God can heal miraculously, and I do not deny that. Now finishing verse 22: 
I Corinthians 14:22b 
Now what's Paul talking about? Well let's just sort of skim through these next few verses, and then I've got to deal with another hot potato in this day and time: "What about the women's activity in the local Church?" I Corinthians 14:23 
Maniac. That's where the word maniac came from. Now verse 24. 
I Corinthians 14:24-26 
"But if all prophesy, (or speak forth the Word) and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all: (Because he's hearing the Word of God, see the difference?) And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth. when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. If you're wondering what he's driving at, verse 40 puts the cap on it. 
I Corinthians 14:40 
Now let's come all the way up to verse 34. 
I Corinthians 14:34a 
"Let your women keep silence in the churches:..." 
Now here is where the women have come down on the Apostle Paul. Paul says, "Then you have to be careful." 
No one dare touch a veiled women. Now reading on in verse 34. 
I Corinthians 14:34 
I had to point out to someone here the other day, you have to remember that under the law, even under God's law to Israel, the woman had almost no rights. Christianity brought women out of that place of being downtrodden, not permitted to be educated, not permitted to read. But Christianity brought the women up on almost an equal level with men. But what have present day women done with that? I Corinthians 14:35 
Let's go back and look at it in Genesis Chapter 3, and we'll begin in verse 16. Genesis 3:16a 
"Unto the woman he said, `I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children;...'" 
I Corinthians 14:36,37 
"What? came the word of God out from you? Now reading on in verse 38. 
I Corinthians 14:38-40 
"But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant. Wherefore, brethren, covet(or desire) to prophesy, (to speak forth the Word) and forbid not to speak with tongues.

RESURRECTION OF THE BODY 
Now let's open our Bibles to I Corinthians Chapter 14. Also remember the reason, I think, the Holy Spirit prompted Paul to write the love chapter, which is Chapter 13, and to sandwich it in between 12 and 14, which are filled with problems. So as we pick up our study in Chapter 14 don't lose sight of what he wrote in the love chapter. Verse 1: 
I Corinthians 14:1 
"Follow after charity, (love) and desire spiritual gifts, (gifts is italicized, and personally I like to use the word `things' instead of gifts) but rather that ye may prophesy." 
Remember the greatest spiritual thing at this time was to prophesy or to speak forth the Word of God, because at the time that Paul is writing to these early Churches there is still no New Testament written. Where would we be today if we didn't have the Book. Gifted men. So Paul realizes through the Holy Spirit that this was the most important thing a local Church could have, and that was men who could proclaim the truth of God's Word without benefit of having it in print. Paul said in Chapter 13 and verse 10 that the time would come when that gift would fade away. That you are the only one who has received the revelation of the true Word of God?" I Corinthians 14:2a 
"For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue..." 
And we defined all that in our last lesson, and when you see the word "tongue" in these two chapters, 12 and 14, in the singular, and with the added word unknown italicized by the translators, it's talking about a bunch of sounds that cannot be reduced to print. Now here he's speaking of the tongues movement, it's an unknown language that no one can print, so this is why the translators call it an unknown tongue. I Corinthians 14:2 
"For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: (God is the only One who can make anything out of it if it were possible.) for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit (small "s" so that's man's spirit) he speaketh mysteries," 
Now verse 3: 
I Corinthians 14:3,4 
"But (the flip side) he that prophesieth (or speaketh forth the Word as a gifted individual) speaketh unto men to edification, (lift them up) and exhortation, and comfort." Now reading on in verse 5. 
I Corinthians 14:5 
"I would that ye all spake with tongues, (That's plural, which means languages. Paul is saying it would be nice if you could just go up into northern Greece, or other countries and speak the dialects that those people do. So Paul knew what he was talking about. He said, "It would be great if you all spoke several languages.") Now there were probably some even in Corinth that couldn't understand Greek, all they could understand maybe was Hebrew or Aramaic. Paul says, "Now it would be great if you could come into this congregation and be able to teach and preach in a language that they could all understand." My, what a great gift that would be, because that's what people needed, they had to hear the Word, because they couldn't go home and read it. 
I Corinthians 14:6 
brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, (these different languages) what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?" 
People even today need doctrine as very few professing believers today have a good solid understanding of doctrine. So Paul says: 
Now verse 7. 
What is the Apostle Paul is saying here? A bunch of noise. Well here, Paul is saying the same thing. I Corinthians 14:7 
And even things without life giving sound, (Musical instruments, when they're giving sound) whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, (The right note at the right place) how shall it be known what is piped or harped?" 
I Corinthians 14:8 
"For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?" 
Now what if the trumpeter didn't know his command? What if he was just blaring out a bunch of sounds, what would the poor troops do? Now verse 9: 
I Corinthians 14:9 
except ye utter by the tongue (this organ in your mouth) words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air." 
Yeah. The Word of God is simple, I explained just yesterday the Gospel (Ref. Of course not, most people haven't. Now verse 10: 
I Corinthians 14:10 
Do you know what Paul is talking about here? Communicating. Men, whatever the background, whether we're European, or Asiatic, we all communicate and this is what Paul is saying, and that's why God gave us that ability to communicate. 
I Corinthians 14:11 
I Corinthians 14:12 
"Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying (or promoting, or the lifting up) of the church." I Corinthians 14:13 
Verse 13 again: 
"Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret." 
To communicate.

I CORINTHIANS 12:1 - 14:3 - PART 2 
As we continue in I Corinthians Chapter 12, Paul has been explaining that the Body of Christ, that invisible make-up of all believers from wherever they are on the planet, and of whatever background, every true child of God becomes a member then of that Body of Christ. And that is a revelation that was given only to the Apostle Paul, because you do not see the Body of Christ taught until Paul comes and shares the revelations that he got from the ascended Lord. You see the resurrection of Christ was at the core of all of Paul's preaching. 
Now let's look at verse 23: 
I Corinthians 12:23 
I Corinthians 1:27 
"But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;" Now let's look at verse 24: 
I Corinthians 12:24 
"For our comely parts (the best part of our appearance) have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked:" 
I Corinthians 12:25,26 
Verse 26: 
It's the same way with the Body of Christ, if a believer is hurt, then the whole Body hurts with it. Now verse 27. 
I Corinthians 12:27 
"Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular." 
So many times Christians pray, and we think, "Oh it's just another sound to God." I Corinthians 12:28-31 
of tongues." 
(No) do all speak with tongues? Now since we've covered Chapter 13, let's go right on over to Chapter 14. 
I Corinthians 14:1 
Now remember the word `prophesy' is not being able to tell the future as we think of Daniel or Isaiah, but to simply speak the Word of God. Now verse 2 which reads: 
I Corinthians 14:2 
"For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue (Now watch the language here because the word "unknown" is italicized. speaketh not unto men, but unto God: (because only God could understand it) for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit (Now it's a small s so it's not the Holy Spirit, but in his mind and his own thinking processes) he speaketh mysteries." 
Now before we go any further, come back to what we just read: that the person speaking in this so-called "unknown"tongue, or in this unwritten tongue, was speaking to God. Let's go back to the three times in Scripture when the Holy Spirit delegated this miracle of speaking in tongues to men, and there are only three times. The first is in Acts Chapter 2, and here is our first example of the gift of speaking in tongues, but it's plural so it's languages, and of course it's back when God was still dealing with the Nation of Israel. Other languages, because there were Jews there from all over the then-known world all speaking different languages. Now the miracle of Pentecost was that God gave these apostles for sure this gift to speak all the languages of the people that were out there in that massive crowd in front of them. It was miraculous, and it was the work of the Holy Spirit, but as Paul said in I Corinthians, who were these men talking to? Other men, and what was the purpose? Peter and these other disciples were promoting the Gospel of the Kingdom, that Jesus was the Christ, but they were doing it in languages that everyone could understand, so it had a divine purpose. 
You all know the account, how that Peter, contrary to his own desires, is forced by God to go up to the house of Cornelius. "While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word." Verse 45. 
"....as many as came with Peter (these six Jews) because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. It was speaking languages. That's the second time that the Holy Spirit was manifested by giving the gift of speaking more language than they were normally living with. The first time it happened to Jews in Chapter 2 - strictly Jews. The second time it happens - to a whole house of Gentiles. (John the Baptist) Chapter 2 - with the Nation of Israel. Chapter 10 - with the Gentiles in the house of Cornelius. Now let's go back to Chapter 14 and remember that whenever the Holy Spirit was manifested in the Book of Acts, it was for a divine purpose and that was to prove something. It was to show Israel that God was now moving in the work of the Holy Spirit. It was to prove to the Jews in the house of the Gentiles that God was now saving Gentiles. It was not longer based on John's baptism and Christ's earthly ministry. I Corinthians 14:3 
"But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort." Paul said in verse 1 that the one that they should really long for is the gift of speaking the Word of God. I Corinthians 14:3 
"But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification. By proclaiming to them the Word of God.

Continuing on in I Corinthians Chapter 12, and verse 3, in the last half of the verse where it says: 
I Corinthians 12:3b 
The only person that can genuinely claim Christ as Lord is the believer. The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus,..." 
That as a believer, now we know that Jesus is Lord. I Corinthians 12:4a 
"Now there are diversities of gifts,..." 
Later on in this chapter Paul is going to introduce now for the first time in his writings this concept of the "Body of Christ." I Corinthians 12:5 
God is the same over all. No, God didn't change, but rather Adam and Eve did. 
Absolutely! Had God changed? No! 
Absolutely. The same God? Absolutely. So it's a different administration, but has God changed? Verse 6: 
I Corinthians 12:6,7 
Now verse 7 is the verse that I was referring to a few minutes ago about asking for gifts. You take the gift that God has given you, and you be content with it. I Corinthians 12:11 
"But all these (the things that he has listed up there in verses 8, 9 and 10) worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally (differently) as he (the Holy Spirit)will." 
So it's not for you and me to go and say, "Oh I want this gift, or that gift," No, you just take the gift that God has given you. We are to leave that up to the Holy Spirit. Now verse 8: 
I Corinthians 12:8 
"For to one (believer in the congregation) is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; (that's a gift to have wisdom) to another the word of knowledge (but it's going to come) by the same Spirit;" See, these were things that the Church needed, and God is providing then with these particular abilities. Now verse 9: 
I Corinthians 12:9 
From the Holy Spirit, because it's a gift, and as we exercise that gift of faith we respond by believing. to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;" 
There's no doubt they exercised this gift in the early Church. We know that even Paul himself exercised this gift in the Book of Acts as he performed miracles. Now let's finish verse 10: 
I Corinthians 12:10 
Go to Ephesians Chapter 4, one of his prison epistles. If people would only look at it this way. Ephesians 4:4-10 
Look at the gifted men he gives to the Church in verse 11. 
Ephesians 4:11 
Once the Word came into print there was no longer a need for gifted men to speak forth the Word, but even so, Paul still lists them here in Ephesians. We know that not all of God's men can be pastors, and not all can be teachers. Why did God give the Church these three categories of people? 
Ephesians 4:12 
the body of Christ:" 
I don't care how little education that you have, you can be a gifted person in God's program for today. 
Here we have the description of the Body of Christ. Now I know there are a lot of people who do not understand this concept that every true believer is a member of the Body of Christ. As I've said before, Jesus never once mentioned the Body of Christ. The Body of Christ is a term that you cannot find in the Four Gospels. I Corinthians 12:12 
For as the body (this human body from which he's going to draw a comparison or allegory) is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ." ("so also is Christ" is referring to the Church or Body of Christ) 
So also is the Body of Christ. So Paul says by inspiration that we believers are members of that one Body of Christ. I Corinthians 12:13 
Not just the most spiritual, not just the ones that have had an emotional experience, but every true believer regardless of where he is or how great experience he's had, we are all members of the Body of Christ because the Holy Spirit has) baptized into one body, (Now you see there's not a word about tongues here, and yet I maintain this is the only time that Paul teaches a baptism by the Holy Spirit. When we are saved the Holy Spirit immediately places us in the Body of Christ, it's a baptism, and there is no water involved. I Corinthians 15:1-4) has been made to drink into that one Holy Spirit. I Corinthians 12:14 
"For the body is not one member, but many." 
I Corinthians 12:15,16 
"If the foot shall say, `Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body;' is it therefore not of the body?" Every part of the body functions together for the purpose of using and energizing the body. I Corinthians 12:17-22 
"If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? (I like the next verse) Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:"
