"Where is God?" comes to mind during times of crisis or upheaval that leave us perplexed. In particularly trying times, it is hard to realize that God is Present and with us, even through hard times. This passage assures us that even in Israel's darkest era, God saw the plight of His people, and implemented His plan to not only deliver them from their physical dilemma, but also to redeem them spiritually. This passage points to God's Chosen Servant - Messiah Jesus.

Isaiah 51:17-52:6 - God’s Redeeming Presence

“Listen to me” is God's Word to us in Isaiah 48:12. We are wise to do so. He is the source of all wisdom. He is the God of truth. We, human as we are, tend to wander astray. Life can be very confusing. We need to get our minds and lives re-calibrated. Listening to God is a key, central component to navigating these challenging times in which we live. He alone gives us true and lasting peace.

if you’ll trust him enough to join him in the way of his cross, you will bow then in the deepest joy forever. But if you cling to your hurt feelings and dashed expectations and broken dreams and stubborn pride, and if you insist on sulking and having things your own way, you will bow unwillingly then, to your eternal exclusion and regret.”

Isaiah 45:9-25  Come To Me and Be Saved, All the Ends of the Earth!

When we are satisfied in Christ, receiving His love and loving Him back with genuine faith and devotion, every aspect of our worship, our attitude, our living is impacted by this new life, this liberating joy we have in Christ our Redeemer. We cease striving to do on our own what only Christ can accomplish for us, so we are then free to love others in sincere rather than transactional ways. This is how we pass on the joy of the Lord to future generations. We see it in the fruit of their lives of faith. 
 
On July 1, 1838, Robert Murray M’Cheyne preached on these verses in Isaiah in his native Scotland, "When two travelers are going through the wilderness, you may know which of them is thirsty by his always looking out for wells. . . . So it is with thirsty believers; they love the Word, read and preached — they thirst for it more and more. Is it so with you, dear believing brethren? 
In Scotland, long ago, it used to be so. Often, after the blessing was pronounced, the people would not go away till they heard more. 
Ah! children of God, it is a fearful sign to see little thirst in you. 
I do not wonder much when the world stays away from our meetings for the Word and prayer; but ah! when you do, I am [speechless] — my soul will weep in secret places for your pride." 
Are you dry and thirsty? Jesus said, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink." What Christ has for each one of us is true satisfaction – a contentment that can only be found in Him.

The deaf and blind are not just those outside of God's Covenant mercy. God details how His servant nation - His chosen messenger to demonstrate to the unbelieving world the truth of God - is deaf to His teaching and blind to their sin. Can the blind lead the blind? 
Of course not. However, despite all this, God declares His plans for His people. Reflecting on this passage deepens my love for God and strengthens my devotion to HIm.
