Thanks for visiting Bible Mountain. This is the sixth lesson in a series of lessons on the Book of Philemon. In this lesson I'm going to look at verses four thru seven and talk about facts vs. feelings. In recent decades evangelicalism has focused more and more on how people feel and spent less and less time on what people know and believe. This is a problem because Christianity is based on facts, not feelings.

Philemon 1:4-7  Facts vs. Feelings

One of the terms used in 2 John is antichrist. Antichrist is a well-known term within Christianity. When we consider the popularity of the term antichrist, we might think the term is used many times throughout the Bible. However, that is not correct. The term antichrist is actually used only five times in the Bible. It is used four times in 1 John, and it is used once in 2 John. The word is never used in the book of Revelation. 
 
We usually think of the antichrist as a future adversary who is coming in the end times. That is true, but that is an incomplete understanding of how the term antichrist is used in the Bible. 
 
In this lesson I'm going to start by looking at some passages in Daniel and 2 Thessalonians to get a broad overview of this future adversary who is coming in the end times. Then I'm going to look at how the term antichrist is used in the book of 1 John. We’ll see that the term antichrist does indeed refer to the end time adversary mentioned in Daniel and 2 Thessalonians; however, we’ll also see there is more than one antichrist. Then I’ll look at 2 John to see what you and I need to do in light of the existence of antichrists.

2 John 1:7-8  Deceivers

As you know, the Bible is a big book, and there are many teachings in the Bible. Everything in the Bible is important; however, some truths are more important than others. Today, I’m going to look at 2 John and talk about one of the most important truths taught in the Bible: the fact that Jesus came to earth in the flesh.

2 John was written for two reasons. The first reason was the author wanted to remind his readers to love one another. The second reason was he wanted to warn them that many deceivers had gone out into the world. Today, I want to focus on the first of those two reasons, the command to love one another. 
 
I’m going to show that this command to love one another is a concept that is found throughout the Bible. The author of 2 John did not originate this teaching, he merely reminded his readers they needed to love one another. 
 
More importantly, I’m going to discuss the definition of love. In the 21st century, when many people see the word love in the Bible, they think of romantic love. They think of love as an emotion. They think of love as a wonderful, euphoric feeling they have for another person. However, that is not the Biblical definition. The Biblical definition of love is action. It is self-denial. It is doing things for other people that are good for them.
