Grace Bible Church

This message looks at the importance of fathers being role models for their children. The man we will look at as an illustration of this is an interesting choice because he had no natural children of his own. He did, however, serve as a spiritual father to many young men throughout his life. The Apostle Paul provides a good pattern for fathers in regard to how to live a life that will have a positive spiritual impact on their children.

It is easy to show the sinfulness of the Gentiles, with their blatant idolatry and ungodly lifestyle, it was harder to convince the Jews, seeing they were God's chosen people. So, in Romans 3:10-18, Paul quotes from the Jews' own Scriptures (Old Testament) to show that all people, both Jew and Gentile, are sinful by nature. In this study, we look at the first set of quotes that deal with "Man's Sinful CHARACTER" (vs. 10-12).

Nearing the time of His death, Jesus cried out with a loud voice, "It is finished!" Having completed the work the Father had given Him to do, bearing the penalty for our sins on that cross, it was time for Jesus to enter into His rest. So, bowing His head, He gave up His spirit, saying, "Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit," and He breathed His last breath. In this morning's message, we examine the significance of this final statement Jesus made from the cross. We also consider: What happened to Jesus in death? Where did He go for the three days and nights before His resurrection?

Most of those who surrounded Jesus' cross were enemies who mocked and taunted Him. However, there were a small group of friends standing beside the cross who loved Him. Most of these were women, including His mother, who must have felt great anguish as she watched her firstborn suffer and die such a cruel death. In the midst of the great work of redemption, the accomplishment of God's eternal purpose, Jesus showed His love and care for His mother. He entrusted her to the care of the beloved disciple, John, with the words, "Woman, behold your son," and to John, "Behold, your mother."

We begin a new series of Bible messages looking at "Jesus' Words from the Cross." The crucifixion of Christ is the greatest event in history--the climax and fulfillment of God's eternal purpose of redemption for fallen mankind. While the words of Jesus are not more important or more inspired than any other portion of Scripture, the words He spoke while hanging on the cross are significant. They give us insight into the person of our Savior as well as a better understanding of the meaning of the cross to us.The Bible records 7 times Jesus spoke from the cross. The first was in the form of a prayer: "Father, forgive them ..." In this message we examine some key questions about this prayer: 1) Forgive who? 2) Forgive them for what? and 3) Forgive them how? While Jesus' sacrificial death did make possible the forgiveness of our sins, the meaning of Jesus' words from the cross have a special dispensational significance for the nation of Israel.
