1 Afterward Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Let my people go, so that they may hold a festival to me in the wilderness.’” 
2 Pharaoh said, “Who is the Lord, that I should obey him and let Israel go? I do not know the Lord and I will not let Israel go.” 
3 Then they said, “The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Now let us take a three-day journey into the wilderness to offer sacrifices to the Lord our God, or he may strike us with plagues or with the sword.” 
4 But the king of Egypt said, “Moses and Aaron, why are you taking the people away from their labor? Get back to your work!” 
5 Then Pharaoh said, “Look, the people of the land are now numerous, and you are stopping them from working.” 
6 That same day Pharaoh gave this order to the slave drivers and overseers in charge of the people: 
7 “You are no longer to supply the people with straw for making bricks; let them go and gather their own straw. 
8 But require them to make the same number of bricks as before; don’t reduce the quota. They are lazy; that is why they are crying out, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to our God.’ 
9 Make the work harder for the people so that they keep working and pay no attention to lies.” 
10 Then the slave drivers and the overseers went out and said to the people, “This is what Pharaoh says: ‘I will not give you any more straw. 
11 Go and get your own straw wherever you can find it, but your work will not be reduced at all.’” 
12 So the people scattered all over Egypt to gather stubble to use for straw. 
13 The slave drivers kept pressing them, saying, “Complete the work required of you for each day, just as when you had straw.” 
14 And Pharaoh’s slave drivers beat the Israelite overseers they had appointed, demanding, “Why haven’t you met your quota of bricks yesterday or today, as before?” 
15 Then the Israelite overseers went and appealed to Pharaoh: “Why have you treated your servants this way? 
16 Your servants are given no straw, yet we are told, ‘Make bricks!’ Your servants are being beaten, but the fault is with your own people.” 
17 Pharaoh said, “Lazy, that’s what you are—lazy! That is why you keep saying, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to the Lord.’ 
18 Now get to work. You will not be given any straw, yet you must produce your full quota of bricks.” 
19 The Israelite overseers realized they were in trouble when they were told, “You are not to reduce the number of bricks required of you for each day.” 
20 When they left Pharaoh, they found Moses and Aaron waiting to meet them, 
21 and they said, “May the Lord look on you and judge you! You have made us obnoxious to Pharaoh and his officials and have put a sword in their hand to kill us.” 
22 Moses returned to the Lord and said, “Why, Lord, why have you brought trouble on this people? Is this why you sent me? 
23 Ever since I went to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has brought trouble on this people, and you have not rescued your people at all.” 
 
Questions for Meditation 
First, what is the first goal Satan is seeking through hardships and difficulties? Why does Satan discourage God's people? What kind of life would we live if we had no hope? 
 
Second, what is the second goal Satan is seeking? Why does Satan cause God's people to divide and fight with each other? If we are not united and divided, what happens? 
 
Third, what is the third goal that Satan is seeking? Why does Satan make us grumble against God? If we grumble against God, what will be the outcome of your relationship with God?

11 After three months we put out to sea in a ship that had wintered in the island—it was an Alexandrian ship with the figurehead of the twin gods Castor and Pollux 폴럭스. 
12 We put in at Syracuse시라큐스 and stayed there three days. 
13 From there we set sail and arrived at Rhegium레기엄. The next day the south wind came up, and on the following day we reached Puteoli퓨튜올라이. 
14 There we found some brothers and sisters who invited us to spend a week with them. And so we came to Rome. 
15 The brothers and sisters there had heard that we were coming, and they traveled as far as the Forum포럼 of Appius아피어스 and the Three Taverns타벌ㄴ스 to meet us. At the sight of these people Paul thanked God and was encouraged. 
16 When we got to Rome, Paul was allowed to live by himself, with a soldier to guard him. 
17 Three days later he called together the local Jewish leaders. When they had assembled, Paul said to them: “My brothers, although I have done nothing against our people or against the customs of our ancestors, I was arrested in Jerusalem and handed over to the Romans. 
18 They examined me and wanted to release me, because I was not guilty of any crime deserving death. 
19 The Jews objected, so I was compelled to make an appeal to Caesar. I certainly did not intend to bring any charge against my own people. 
20 For this reason I have asked to see you and talk with you. It is because of the hope of Israel that I am bound with this chain.” 
21 They replied, “We have not received any letters from Judea concerning you, and none of our people who have come from there has reported or said anything bad about you. 22 But we want to hear what your views are, for we know that people everywhere are talking against this sect.” 
23 They arranged to meet Paul on a certain day, and came in even larger numbers to the place where he was staying. He witnessed to them from morning till evening, explaining about the kingdom of God, and from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets he tried to persuade them about Jesus. 
24 Some were convinced by what he said, but others would not believe. 
25 They disagreed among themselves and began to leave after Paul had made this final statement: “The Holy Spirit spoke the truth to your ancestors when he said through Isaiah the prophet: 
26 “‘Go to this people and say, “You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.” 
27 For this people’s heart has become calloused칼러스드/목이 박힌, 냉담한; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.’ 
28 “Therefore I want you to know that God’s salvation has been sent to the Gentiles, and they will listen!” 
30 For two whole years Paul stayed there in his own rented house and welcomed all who came to see him. 
31 He proclaimed the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ—with all boldness and without hindrance! 
 
Questions for meditation: 
 
First, why didn’t the story of Acts end with a conclusion? Through the Holy Spirit what message is Luke trying to tell us? 
 
Second, how are you dealing with the problems of conflicts in your life? What does the problem of conflict shown in Acts tell us? 
 
Third, how do you take the unfinished work of Acts 28? What kind of retirement are you preparing for in the future? What kind of ministries would you like to undertake after you retire? If you have already retired, in what ministry can you get involved?

(11/21/21-2) Isaiah 9:6 Prince of Peace

1 When it was decided that we would sail for Italy, Paul and some other prisoners were handed over to a centurion named Julius, who belonged to the Imperial Regiment레지먼트. 
2 We boarded a ship from Adramyttium애드라미티움 about to sail for ports along the coast of the province of Asia, and we put out to sea. Aristarchus아리스타커스, a Macedonian from Thessalonica, was with us. 
3 The next day we landed at Sidon싸이든; and Julius, in kindness to Paul, allowed him to go to his friends so they might provide for his needs. 
4 From there we put out to sea again and passed to the lee of Cyprus because the winds were against us. 
5 When we had sailed across the open sea off the coast of Cilicia싸일리시아 and Pamphylia, we landed at Myra마이라 in Lycia리시아. 
6 There the centurion found an Alexandrian ship sailing for Italy and put us on board. 
7 We made slow headway for many days and had difficulty arriving off Cnidus스나이더스. When the wind did not allow us to hold our course, we sailed to the lee of Crete크릿, opposite Salmone쌀몬니. 
8 We moved along the coast with difficulty and came to a place called Fair Havens, near the town of Lasea래시. 
9 Much time had been lost, and sailing had already become dangerous because by now it was after the Day of Atonement. So Paul warned them, 
10 “Men, I can see that our voyage보야지 is going to be disastrous and bring great loss to ship and cargo, and to our own lives also.” 
11 But the centurion, instead of listening to what Paul said, followed the advice of the pilot and of the owner of the ship. 
12 Since the harbor was unsuitable to winter in, the majority decided that we should sail on, hoping to reach Phoenix and winter there. This was a harbor in Crete, facing both southwest and northwest. 
13 When a gentle south wind began to blow, they saw their opportunity; so they weighed anchor and sailed along the shore of Crete. 
14 Before very long, a wind of hurricane force, called the Northeaster, swept down from the island. 
15 The ship was caught by the storm and could not head into the wind; so we gave way to it and were driven along. 
16 As we passed to the lee of a small island called Cauda카우다, we were hardly able to make the lifeboat secure, 
17 so the men hoisted호이스티드/끌어올리다 it aboard. Then they passed ropes under the ship itself to hold it together. Because they were afraid they would run aground on the sandbars of Syrtis씰티스, they lowered the sea anchor and let the ship be driven along. 
18 We took such a violent battering from the storm that the next day they began to throw the cargo overboard. 
19 On the third day, they threw the ship’s tackle overboard with their own hands. 
20 When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days and the storm continued raging, we finally gave up all hope of being saved. 
21 After they had gone a long time without food, Paul stood up before them and said: “Men, you should have taken my advice not to sail from Crete; then you would have spared yourselves this damage and loss. 
22 But now I urge you to keep up your courage, because not one of you will be lost; only the ship will be destroyed. 
23 Last night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood beside me 
24 and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul. You must stand trial before Caesar; and God has graciously given you the lives of all who sail with you.’ 
25 So keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me. 
 
Questions for Meditation: 
First, crisis reveals true leadership. Think about past crisis in your life and how you exercised or did not exercise leadership. If you face a similar crisis in the future, as a leader, how you act differently? 
 
Second, in Paul's leadership, what is the first characteristic? How can we become a trustworthy Christian? 
 
Third, in Paul's leadership, what is the second characteristic? How can we be loved by the people of the community we belong to? 
 
Fourth, in Paul's leadership, what is the third characteristic? What can we do to take responsibility for the community we belong to?

ACTS 19:8-20 
8 Paul entered the synagogue and spoke boldly there for three months, arguing persuasively about the kingdom of God. 9 But some of them became obstinate; they refused to believe and publicly maligned the Way. So Paul left them. He took the disciples with him and had discussions daily in the lecture hall of Tyrannus. 10 This went on for two years, so that all the Jews and Greeks who lived in the province of Asia heard the word of the Lord. 
11 God did extraordinary miracles through Paul, 12 so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured and the evil spirits left them. 
13 Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed. They would say, “In the name of the Jesus whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out.” 14 Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. 15 One day the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know about, but who are you?” 16 Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding. 
17 When this became known to the Jews and Greeks living in Ephesus, they were all seized with fear, and the name of the Lord Jesus was held in high honor. 18 Many of those who believed now came and openly confessed what they had done. 19 A number who had practiced sorcery brought their scrolls together and burned them publicly. When they calculated the value of the scrolls, the total came to fifty thousand drachmas.[c] 20 In this way the word of the Lord spread widely and grew in power. 
 
Questions for Meditation: 
First, why did Paul spend two years and three months in Ephesus? What was the purpose of Paul's 3rd missionary journey? 
 
Second, what was the work of the Holy Spirit that took place in Ephesus after the incident of 7 sons of Sceva? Why did people bring the magic scrolls and burn them all? 
 
Third, what is the power of a true Christian? Do you have the power of transformation? In another words, are you changing through your faith? Are your surroundings being changed through you?

2 This brought Paul and Barnabas into sharp dispute and debate with them. So Paul and Barnabas were appointed, along with some other believers, to go up to Jerusalem to see the apostles and elders about this question. 
3 The church sent them on their way, and as they traveled through Phoenicia and Samaria, they told how the Gentiles had been converted. This news made all the believers very glad. 
4 When they came to Jerusalem, they were welcomed by the church and the apostles and elders, to whom they reported everything God had done through them. 
5 Then some of the believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees stood up and said, “The Gentiles must be circumcised and required to keep the law of Moses.” 
6 The apostles and elders met to consider this question. 
 
Questions for Meditation: 
First, what are two sides of conflict? Have you experienced Satan's temptation and/or God's test in conflicts? 
 
Second, to overcome conflicts you must have faith which surpasses your feelings and thoughts. How can we keep our faith and not rely on our feelings and thoughts in the midst of conflicts? 
 
Third, how can we not think of the people with whom we have conflicts as enemies? How can we fight the good fight in the midst of conflicts?

10 But they could not stand up against the wisdom the Spirit gave him as he spoke.

13 They produced false witnesses, who testified, “This fellow never stops speaking against this holy place and against the law.

5 When Ananias heard these words, he fell down and breathed his last. And great fear came upon all who heard of it. 
6 The young men rose and wrapped him up and carried him out and buried him. 
7 After an interval of about three hours his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 
8 And Peter said to her, “Tell me whether you sold the land for so much.” And she said, “Yes, for so much.” 
9 But Peter said to her, “How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.” 
10 Immediately she fell down at his feet and breathed her last. When the young men came in they found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her beside her husband.
